I just love the fact that you are open about not liking tampons or menstrual cups! I honestly feel really really uncomfortably using both and it’s really cool to see someone claim pads as their period product! I hate when people shame people for their period product of choice. THANK YOU!
Katie Parrish I felt the same way until I discovered tampons. It was so much less anxiety because even with pads I was always worried about leaking, lol. No one should be shamed for their period product preference! One thing I do want to encourage people to be aware of is cotton tampons, pads and liners! They’re awesome!
Katie Parrish I get severe cramps when I use regular size tampons or larger. I have always felt comfortable wearing pads but was shamed by peers that I didn’t use a “cleaner” tampon.
I think no matter what you wear it's the best to be comfortable, you do you girl! I think for me at least, pads just get too messy for me. I have to wear both which sucks hah but it makes me feel safe 😂
tss6295 same! People always say “it’s gross to wear pads” but honestly I feel cleaner letting my body clean itself out instead of having the blood clogged up in my tampon I also feel that they make my cramps worse . But it’s all about preference I guess
I absolutely love how open and honest you are about everything because the stigma really needs to end. You inspire me in so many ways, Ingrid, including to speak out about my own period and help normalize it!
I am so glad that you are so open about periods. I grew up in a household where it is mostly women and so we are very open about periods. But I know in a lot of houses women aren't that open. So the fact that you are being so open about this with your 3,000,000+ viewers makes such a huge statement to me and I think that it is so helpful for the girls out there who don't have someone to be this open with. I think it is a really great thing you are doing Ingrid. Thank you for being such a inspiration to me.
It’s so nice to hear someone who practically is the same as me on this subject. I really enjoyed seeing what products you use, and appreciated you talking about your experience with your periods. I relate 100%.
since I’m on my period right now this was so helpful for me! ugh Ingrid I adore your style for filming and I realllllly appreciate that you talk about your period so openly! it’s more helpful than I can say!
This. More girls need to see this! There is such a stigma about this completely natural cycle. Thank you for having the courage and class to talk about this so openly, gracefully, and in such an informative way!
I am over your age demographic for sure but wanted to say that although I am in my 30's I have taught 8th grade for more than 10 years and dealt with many girls going through their first periods or having accidents in class. I got mine at 11 yrs old in school so I know how it is and I wish there was someone like you who was honest and open with information. I'm glad my students have so many more options now a days and someone like you to look up to so they are not embarrassed of themselves and their natural bodies.
I love your period videos. Most people only talk about tampons and say pads are gross. But some people like myself cannot wear internal products like tampons, menstrual cups, etc. So it's so refreshing to see someone who talks about pads!
I love how candid she is. She talks about these things like most people should talk about it. Normally. It’s natural and it’s helpful for women to talk about these things and share advice and experiences.
I tried discs because you said they worked well. I don't usually love using internal methods because the inserting and removing of them starts to make my insides sore, but when i have to be at work on my feet and constantly moving, i know that even Always Infinity pads are going to rip to shreds in the back and i will get the stickiness. Therefore, I LOVE the discs for shopping, work, the gym, anything long term and/or active really. I don't have to think about it for hours, I can't feel it like i can a tampon, and i don't constantly want to go to the bathroom for a wipe down. I use both pads and discs throughout the cycle and overall waste less total because of the extended wear. I also kind of like being more in (literal) touch with my insides. the instructions seemed so confusing at first until i used it, and it was like "OH! I GET IT NOW!" and that felt really cool. Also, i get a lot of discharge on a daily basis (something no one ever really talks about) and i have to wear a liner every day just to not feel wetness. i can go through up to 3 a day just to stay dry. I wish someone would come up with better management for something like that!
Katy holy shit I thought that was just me. I get a lot of discharge on a daily basis to. I go through 3 liners a day. A hate the wet feeling. And I don’t get my period. Haven’t had it in 6 years due to my ovarian cysts so why I get discharge is beyond me
Ugh its good to know I'm not the only one who gets a lot of discharge. I tend to just wear boxers when going to bed or relaxing at home in lieu of my panties, (as I dont wanna get them dirty) but it sucks to have to wear a liner everywhere I go. I tried to go without the other day but I swear its the most uncomfortable feeling.
As long as you aren't using tampons for it! My great grandmother HATED having ANY discharge, and so she wore tampons all month long, and for too long. Caused her to be the only person in my family lineage so far to have ever gotten cancer, when she was diagnosed with cervix cancer, caused by that lifestyle. People understand the important of not leaving tampons in too long better now, but always remember it's SUPER important.
1. This video came at the right time! 2. Pads all the way. And overnight pads are an essential for me as well for the very same reason 🙌🏼 #getthatcoverage
There really seems to be a stigma about not wearing tampons so it’s nice to see someone honest about using pads! Love how open and honest you are about your body
Erica Marrison A I agree! 🖐🏻 serious chocoholic right here. Dug into my pint of chocolate brownie ice cream yesterday (my period started yesterday! 🍫) no regrets!
Honestly it just really annoys me when people judge someone who uses regular pads (or tampons) "because it's bad for the environment". I mean, diva cups and such just doesn't work for me, and yeah, there are reusable pads, or period panties, but if i'm out all day, i'm not gonna start changing my underwear multiple times a day in a public bathroom and carry the dirty ones with me.I think the most important thing is to be comfortable on your period. If you want to save the environment- there are other things in the world we can change to do that first...
Changed to a reusable cup this year and it completely changed how I feel about my period. Best thing I've done for me. Definitely something everyone should try.
I would also really recommend Thinx Underwear, I have some that I love and you can throw them in the wash! They actually absorb your period and remain dry. I believe they also have a Foundation that gives back. :)
I have to say, hearing that old Ingrid transition sound made me SO happy! Thanks for all of these A+ recommendations, Ingrid! I've always been the opposite - I'm more uncomfortable wearing pads than anything else - but I love hearing about what people use either way! It just shows that we're all so different and that's to be celebrated!
I appreciate ppl talking about how not every product is for everyone. For me a conbination of smaller (than small diva cups) cup and (if I don't feel like inserting anything) pads worked.
This couldn't have came on a perfect day when I actually got my period. I love that you talk about this so openly me I am grateful I had my mom to help me through my first one and mine now at 26 but i know many girls don't have someone like that and you could be that someone. Because no one is expert of their period not for a few years anyways.
I have to say that this is a very thorough and candid video. I love how upfront you are about your period struggles. Not every product you mentioned works for me-that's why you prefaced the video by saying products YOU like to use. But the menstrual disc looks like something I would try. Thank you for posting this.
This video is so awesome! I have seen other bloggers talk about periods - they looked ashamed and giggle the whole time. By speaking about this openly, candidly, and just like a normal person (!) you are making periods normal and NOT taboo, as they should be! I don't even have a period at all for medical reasons, but I still found this video refreshing and informative. I will be passing it along to friends.
Ugh I've had three kids and I'm still terrified of menstrual cups. I check my cervix for ovulation etc but during my period the pressure is INTENSE! The thoughts of inserting them on my period is just terrifying! I love this talk, let's break the stigma of periods being gross. Just normal not particularly comfortable but NORMAL! X
@@FritziWagenrad i really want to use a menstrual cup because they're so reusable and easy to clean, but i just haven't been able to insert them properly. last time i was on my period, i spent an hour hogging the filthy dorm bathroom, trying to stick a menstrual cup up my vagina, and it never seemed to fit! i tried so many different folds, but i couldn't manage to the lip entirely inside of me. i don't know what i was doing wrong xD menstrual cups are just so fiddly
Thank you for such an informative video! It took me over a year of trying almost every time to figure out how so use my menstrual cup. For so long it was just so painful and it seemed like I was built weird or whatever, but eventually my absolute hatred and frustration for pads forced me into figuring it out. Nothing quite like spite to push me forward. It's been like 2 years and now I can't even imagine doing it another way. I'm just really happy to see you talk about things like this. The more we talk about it, the better! And people can find solutions that work the best for them, without shame.
I love your real talk about periods and hope it helps to end the negative stigma too many people have about them. I haven't tried a cup, but imagine they'd be painful since tampons are for me...you help answer so many questions in such a friendly and straight forward manner. Major kudos to you!
This brought back so many memories! I remember just starting out with my period, and watching your older period videos filled in the gaps that parents and education missed! I saw that you used wipes, and I do too. I really like the Summer's Eve ones, and they actually come individually wrapped. I'd suggest trying those.
Hey Ingrid! I have the same issue with tampons and menstrual cups. Recently there’s been a huge push to use menstrual cups, especially from the environmentally-friendly community. While I try to create as little waste as possible and purchase eco-friendly products, using the cup is not an option for me. I’ve opted for 100% cotton pads, and I find that they are more comfortable and breathable than regular pads. Thanks for the vid!
Refreshing to see another pad girl! I have so many boxes of different tampons floating around bc I have tried them all and my body just REPELS them. PS: advise to trade the Advil liquid gels for the Walgreens or CVS brand equivalent. Same stuff, better price.
You are truly amazing ! Thank you for talking openly about your period. When I was younger, no one ever talked about it. It was embarrassing if someone found out you were having your period.
I love how inclusive you are! A lot of people think that there's only pads or tampons for periods, unless you're a hippy or vegan 🤣 I love reusable pads, so soft plus better environmentally. Love you Ingrid!
+Ingrid Nielsen Hey ladies! I'm a pad person myself and can't really get used to using a menstrual cup. The thing with pads is that we end up producing soon much waste during our lifetime. Just wanna share a more sustainable alternative apart from reusable pads. Period underwear like Thinx or the ones from Annigan (what I use personally) are a great alternative. I'm sure there are other options out there too. Please look them up and let's work together to reduce waste. :)
My first few times using the discs were really strange, because I wasn't comfortable sticking my finger up there. But once I got used to it, I felt happy that I finally had an option for swimming/beach days because I haaaate tampons. That said, sometimes even the discs sit a little uncomfortably and make me feel crampy. It's a crapshoot as to whether it'll not feel like anything, or if it'll make me feel crampy.
the flex is like softcups which you can buy at cvs/rite aid! They're my favorite and when they were temporarily discontinued I literally cried and stocked up lol. but they're back now!
I love your period videos! I strongly believe we should talk about periods more frequently and more casually, so this is awesome. And probably helpful for a lot of people!
Thanks so much for being so open about periods! It's always so nice to be able to learn new things about something that happens to every woman. Also one of my favourite period foods has to be ritz peanut butter crackers or some classic chocolate chip cookies.
I always had trouble with tampons too and hated that I was the only one of my friends who didn't use them. Years later I found out I had a tilted uterus (which can make using them difficult). So don't be so hard on yourself and others.
So pleased to see this on your channel! I have been watching you for years (since you had a pet lizard!) and remember how squeamish you would be about feminine products and being a little disappointed in that. I'm SO happy and proud to see you be not only so open, but open to sharing with others! Yes girl, keep it up!!!
A company called intimina recently came out with a reusable version of a menstrual disc called the ziggy cup. I personally haven't used it, I think it just recently came out, but that could be a good reusable option that might work really well for you since you like the discs. Great video btw!
I loved this. My parents divorced when I was really young and I lived with my dad so dealing with anything related to my period was super awkward and talking about it was super taboo so now at 28 I still get shy about it but this video makes me feel comfortable and I love your honesty
I love your videos especially the period ones. You are a role model for your viewers and love the way you re taiking about every topic on your channel please never stop doing videos with such great content
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have also found that pads are just so much more comfy for me and I’m tired of the stigma that vs tampons they’re for diapers. These are also my favorite brand of pads and I’m so grateful to see a vid like this!!!
I love the L. pads! But like you said they don't last as long, but I use them on the tail end of my period since I tend to be lighter after day 2. And I like that they're great for people that are sensitive/prone to irritation too!
I absolutely love how often you have been uploading lately , Ingrid. Keep up the wonderful work with everything as always girl, and of course, stay smiling!🤗💕
I have to wear pantiliners every day because of discharge, and the always (i use the ones with the blue wrappers) have been the BEST. They stay on the best, are so comfortable, and the packaging stays secure (unlike Carefree) because of the lil tape
I find Gladrags to be a bit expensive. If anyone is interested there are a ton of options on Etsy and lots of facebook groups hosted by individual pad makers. Thanks to Ingrid for promoting the reusable option!
Yes to Advil liquid gels. They are the only ones I will go to because they work! I will buy a new bottle if I'm out and about when I start getting cramps.
Love this!! The openness is refreshing and the suggestions are great. I personally find that the Diva Cup works great for me, and I strongly suggest trying a menstrual cup if you haven't. I know they don't work for everyone, but it's worth a shot, especially since there's tons of types to try! Tricky for a while, but if they work for you, it's a total lifesaver for long days. You could forget that you're on your period.
Hello Ingrid, hello everybody; On March 20th 2018 I had a fibroid remove that was causing me heavy periods, NOW; I’m looking forward to enjoy my period again and this time hopefully with no pain or less pain :-). I’m use to wear tampons and pads at the same time. My favorite brand so far are are Always. Periods are cool and thank you for sharing.
Discs are really cool! They just started making a reusable version called the “Ziggy cup” it is really cool and I’ve heard really great things about it!
Girl, I swear by Advil Liqui-Gels. I get really bad cramps and tried a lot of different over the counter stuff, but those are the only one's that truly offered some relief. I'm also an advocate for overnight pads. I used to really love the Kotex ones you mentioned but recently tried some CVS Overnight Maxi Pads on a whim when they were out of the Kotex ones and I'm in love. They have some extra flare out in the back so I'm extra protected and I haven't leaked since.
When she was talking about the pants getting tight around her waist and making her cramps, gas, and pain worse. . .I said aloud in my brother's room, "Preach, Ingrid! Preach!"
For those of you who are thinking about using a menstrual cup but haven’t yet, you really should. I’m so happy I did, I wish I had done it sooner. I actually look forward to having my period now. And it’s so much better for the environment.
I hate periods. I had a really bad injury that happened in Sept and I'm still dealing with it. Because of it, I have to be on warfarin (a blood thinner). I'm 28 and feel like this is just the cherry on top of my injury. Like imagine being injured and not able to walk and having the heaviest period you could imagine. It's hell. Never take for granted your health and just normal day to day problems. It can be so much worse. Health is wealth and I can't wait to get healthy again.
I hated tampons and the diva cup was awful for me. However, I bought the Lily cup by intimina and I think it's THE best. Super thin and flexible. Very comfortable and easy to use. Highly recommend and have converted many friends who also had negative experiences with menstrual cups.
I was always a pad girl, but then I tried tampons+pads (just in case) and I really liked the fact that you don’t have to worry about it for 3-4 hours. But at night, pads all the way ) and when I have light days too. The only think that worries me, that these options are not zero waste. But menstrual cups are so painful :(
Yay! I totally recommended flex cups and reusable pads on your last video! I'm so glad they worked for you..... Thanks for making these videos..... There are lots of options out there and no one should have to sit out or feel like they have to use something that's painful or uncomfortable 😁
I use the U by Kotex All Nighter pads regularly, even during the day. I feel so much more secure during the day, and I actually prefer the longer pads to shorter ones. Since switching I’ve never had a leak!! (Knock on wood haha)
Thank you for being so open about your period and sharing your tricks for making it more manageable. You talked about how you get gassy during your period. I get gassy and then have a hard time going #2 for some reason during that time. I can’t be the only one who has that happen. If you or anyone you know has those issues, what do you recommenced?
Thermacare makes heat patches that stick onto your underwear and while they're not as warm as a regular heating pad they help me go about my day normally with a little pain relief Also I love making chamomile tea or making a brownie in a mug
Just in case you might want to try out a reusable disk option, the brand Intimina makes one by the name of Ziggy Cup (even though it says cup in the name it's a disk). I just started using a menstrual cup and I am never going back. I had to do _tons_ of research though, because I wanted to minimize unnecessary spending on cups that might not work. I ended up purchasing a Lena Cup and I could not be happier with it. It took a few tries to get used to it, but it's a great beginner cup. If you ever venture to try cups again, it sounds like you might have a lower cervix and might also benefit from a softer cup. Lena makes a sensitive model that is supposed to be really soft. I think I might try getting one myself at some point just to see how I would like it in comparison to my regular Lena (which I already love after one cycle). If anyone is interested in learning more about menstrual cups, PutACupInIt and Precious Star Pads here on UA-cam are two excellent resources.
I just love the fact that you are open about not liking tampons or menstrual cups! I honestly feel really really uncomfortably using both and it’s really cool to see someone claim pads as their period product! I hate when people shame people for their period product of choice. THANK YOU!

famousflowerofaustin how in the world do people have a sex life when they wear pads? I’m assuming they don’t?
ccap3211 hard to have a sex life while you're on your period...
Jamie H not really. There are ways around it.
I love how open you are about your periods! Makes me proud to be a woman in this taboo world.
I don’t like wearing tampons or menstrual cups either! People tell me that it is so weird that I prefer pads, but it’s so much more about the comfort.
tss6295 same! People always say “it’s gross to wear pads” but honestly I feel cleaner letting my body clean itself out instead of having the blood clogged up in my tampon I also feel that they make my cramps worse . But it’s all about preference I guess
I literally can’t wear pads!! Especially when I use to be at school it use to leak bad 😭
Alexis Harmon ik when I wear tampons I feel sick
I absolutely love how open and honest you are about everything because the stigma really needs to end. You inspire me in so many ways, Ingrid, including to speak out about my own period and help normalize it!
I'm in awe of the daredevils who wear pads without wings. What's life like on the edge?
Gigglypeach hahahaha indeed...
It's great haha I hate pads with wings
lol 😂
Lol, it's dangerously amazing.
Honestly, not that exciting haha

DScritchy have you tried one of the menstrual disks like Ingrid recommended?
You are truly amazing ! Thank you for talking openly about your period. When I was younger, no one ever talked about it. It was embarrassing if someone found out you were having your period.
I love how inclusive you are! A lot of people think that there's only pads or tampons for periods, unless you're a hippy or vegan 🤣 I love reusable pads, so soft plus better environmentally. Love you Ingrid!
Love how real or unfiltered you are. Definitely what I look for in any youtuber x
I can't get over how much she resembles Maia Mitchell
I never realized how much women really relate when were on our periods
the flex is like softcups which you can buy at cvs/rite aid!
Ingid Nilsen- breaking the period stigma one video at a time
Ummm ok crazy how the universe works.. just got my period this morning and alredy feeling like crap so thank u so much Ingrid! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for mentioning the reusable pads. You can buy a wet bag to put used pads in when you're out. Then just wash them when you come back home. :)
Huge bonus for the pads in the beginning, the wrappings are a cloth type, so they aren’t crazy noisy in public bathrooms!👍🏼
Cloth pads, especially crushed velvet by Novel Red are AMAZING!!!!
thank you for using pads :D I felt like I'm the only one. There's just something so ugh about putting stuff in.
I love how your such a big advocate for females and all that comes along with being one. Thank you Ingrid.
Finally someone who gets it! Tampons And menstrual cups just are not comfortable and are difficult to use. Pads are my go-to
I absolutely love how often you have been uploading lately , Ingrid.
Thank you so much, I've undergone so much judgement the moment I say I don't use tampons because they just aren't comfy, this helps me not feel alone
Ingrid, you are truly a period hero.
I have been looking into GladRags and I am SO HAPPY you talked about them!!
As always, love your period related content! I love seeing someone else who doesn't use insert-able collection methods
i've been watching you since ur rainbow sleeved cat hoodie days and i love you
Hello Ingrid, hello everybody; On March 20th 2018 I had a fibroid remove that was causing me heavy periods, NOW; I’m looking forward to enjoy my period again and this time hopefully with no pain or less pain :-). I’m use to wear tampons and pads at the same time. My favorite brand so far are are Always. Periods are cool and thank you for sharing.
Discs are really cool! They just started making a reusable version called the “Ziggy cup” it is really cool and I’ve heard really great things about it!
I know everyone has different preferences in period products but menstrual cups are the way to go. They're total game changers in the period world.
I love your honesty and versatility when it comes to period products (or any products for that matter)🙌🏼❣️
Finally someone who uses those overnight pads as well! Thanks for being so real
omg I LOVE the pink elephant chocolate bar!!! 😍
I highly recommend period underwear! My favorites are from Lunapads, and I also use their reusable pads.
I actually like being able to feel my pad because I feel secure and I know I can feel that everything’s in the right spot and not leaking or anything
I love that you talk about this! You're so great Ingrid!
Highly recommend and have converted many friends who also had negative experiences with menstrual cups.
this video is so cool. i think its awesome that you can speak openly about periods and let girls not feel ashamed of them! :)
I just got mine today and I am SUFFERING, so this is a well-timed and much needed video!
Love how real this video is !!!
Ingrid you are awesome and definitely my hero! You are just so refreshing and real. Very inspiring.
If you like the discs intimina made a reusable one called the Ziggy cup. It is marketed for sex but it is very similar to the soft cups
I second this. The ziggy disc is my goldilocks, so comfy and easy to use. ❤
Thermacare makes heat patches that stick onto your underwear and while they're not as warm as a regular heating pad they help me go about my day normally with a little pain relief
Also I love making chamomile tea or making a brownie in a mug
it’s crazy to think how helpful your videos have been to my life.
I love this. So much support for you angel! Love and serenity your way ♥️
