      @Ryan Bruce ye thanks. I mean the use of plastic isn't inherently wrong, don't get me wrong. Maybe I should've phrased myself a bit better. The sound of the microphone should be all that matters but you can't really bypass the poor build quality when price is so damn high in comparison to others who don't compromise on it. I mean, at least in my opinion there's nothing worse than investing your money into something that feels cheap, it has happened to me on couple occasions. I mean boohoo right, dude gets to buy products and complain about them amirite? But that's not really the point, if the build quality is shit then you can talk about it I think. All and all that's just my opinion. (and you can correct someone with an asterisk, I mean that's all you need)

      Got a Neet Worker Bee for 150 Cad a few years ago. That thing is a full blown studio mic made by Gibson and Blue (collaboration). How Asus can charge more for this is beyond me. I like the company, have a zenphone and ultrabook that are great but some of their peripherals leave me scratching my head. They're out to lunch here.

    • @esaedvik
      @esaedvik 7 років тому +3

      Asus actually has an audio track record - they acquired an audio company like 10 years ago, hence the Xonar Essence STX high-end soundcards etc. are dope af.

    • @DangerDavez
      @DangerDavez 7 років тому +1

      True enough but the design of this is mind boggling. The sound itself is actually good. I like companies taking risks with design as long as it is functional. Blue and Neat take unique design risks but they work and don't look like they were designed by 12 year old kids. Blue Yeti, Neat Bee and AT2020 all compete with this and offer better sound and design for lower cost.

      My mobo and gpu are the RoG STRIX line and they look really amazing. I actually don't know how they fucked this microphone up so badly, but generally I've always thought the STRIX line is really classy. For example, my B-350 mobo is mostly black, but it has really well placed silver heat sinks and accents. Really neutral and classy. Personally I also think the STRIX version of any GPU is just flat out good looking. This is all imo though.

    the modmic sounds really similar and way cheaper.

    • @blahorgaslisk7763
      @blahorgaslisk7763 7 років тому

      The recording quality of the modmic is analogue so the recording quality is ultimately dependent on the microphone input on the sound card used for recording. So if you are just starting get into recording audio you may have to get a quality sound card for the modmic to work acceptably. Microphones like the Blue Yeti or the reviewed mic connects by USB and the recording quality will be the same no matter what sound card you've got.

    • @Magnulus76
      @Magnulus76 4 роки тому

      @@blahorgaslisk7763 You're going to need a professional audio interface most likely, unless you have a high end motherboard or very high end soundcard. And you will also need a quality power supply with very little ripple. Which is going to cost you around $80-100 dollars, if not more.
      Getting a cheap USB sound device like Syba, would be another possibility. It has over 4 volts for the bias voltage. Getting alot of bias voltage is crucial for any electret condenser microphone, which is what the Modmic is. Soundblaster and Asus's cards simply don't have enough bias voltage out of the microphone input to be a good experience.
      It also sounds like Schitt Audio's Fulla and Hel have good microphone inputs.

    All those microphone recommendations you provided are still a bit hefty given that they're only going to be use for Discord voice chat, video narration and all that. If sound quality for non professional voice-over recording is what you're looking for, just get either the CAD GXL2200 USB or the Marantz Pod Pack 1. Basically, don't go above $100 if you're just going to do skype or discord, record narration for videos, and all that simple stuff.

    I think the USB Port on the mic is for USB Headphones, not necessarily for USB Sticks. The design is a hit and miss but rgb, sure. The Magnus sounds really good but Asus has not disclosed any frequency range for the mic (The newest Razer mic is 16bit 44.1K-48K). I would like to see them release this for a cheaper price but that'd be throwing away the mic quality, it could do better without the RGB.

  • @Rudy2k5

    The quality of the ModMic 5 is impressive considering. Honestly I wonder how one could consider buying a headset at 250$ when you can have this with a comparable sound quality.

    • @mackeee
      @mackeee 7 років тому

      A headset is more minimal as you will need another cable when using the ModMic 5. You recieve a sleeve that you can put around both cables but that makes it kinda thick and heavy.

    • @Rudy2k5
      @Rudy2k5 7 років тому +3

      I can live with a kinda thick and "heavy" cable if I save 200$.

    • @DarkSoulaire
      @DarkSoulaire 7 років тому +1

      One would consider it (as i did) because the modmic is only a mic, a headset is a mic and headphones. I bought the sennheiser pc363d for $170 and its sound quality as well as mic quality is amazing. that would be the equivalent of buying the modmic and then $120 headphones, which is very comparable, if not better in quality vs price. for example the popular ATH M50x is $150; i got a mic for $20 more. I can't say the audio quality comparison, but mine is amazing IMO, so i would be willing to argue for it.
      EDIT: In fact, looking up the price on their own website, it says the normal price is $70, while a sale price currently is $60, so you would have even less money for a pair of headphones than my original comment.

    The noies cancelling sounds absolutely awful, I rather hear some background white noise than having to listen to that muffled sounding quality. Also I very much prefer the mic on the ModMic 5 above the sennheiser G4ME ONE and Sennheiser MD46. Magnus is great, dont really hear a difference between magnus and akg c314, the akq c314 does have a better sounding highend tho.

    sounds really nice, but if you want a USB mic, I'd go yeti + arm + pup filter for for less than the ROG mic instead.
    OR you could get an AT2020 with pup filter combo + scarlet xlr interface + arm for the same price as the ROG mic.

    How could you possibly compare the audio quality of different mics when they don't have the same output amplitude? The Magnus is the loudest in your video among all of the mics you compared, and louder often makes it sound a little better.

  • @FLASHitude
    @FLASHitude 7 років тому

    Quality sounds fantastic but SLIGHTLY more echoy than desireable. More than likely from more of the ambient sound being picked up but still good. I would definitely consider getting this if I didn't already have a great mic.

    I've never used a pro/semi-pro microphone in my life, nor have I seen one personally. The only microphone I had was the cheap $5 ones they sell at most computer shops.
    However, now I'm looking to buy a good one for voice recording. Quickly browsing the web showed the Blue Yeti is almost unanimously the best microphone out there right now.
    Is that so? Can someone please tell me how does it fair to other microphones/perhaps suggest a better option for a beginner?
    Thanks, and sorry for the long question.

    I’m surprised you didn’t compare the blue yeti.
    Also, I just bought a Blue Yeti, although I’d love to stream, I just moved back to my home town which barely has any good internet, so I may have to resort to just recording and uploading to UA-cam, albeit there’s more competition here, I’d still like to get my gaming experiences out there

    what do you think of the Razer microphones? You mentioned them at the start but gave them credit for their ability to work well on a desk. You should do a review on their new mic

  • @dokalol9694

    just buy a blue yeti and a mic stand that clips on to your desk
    1: BC the blue yeti has 4 options to record(cardioid, stereo, omidirectional and bidirectional)
    2:full metal so its really nice and weighted
    3:at $115 dollars its a very good mic that will get you started on UA-cam, Twitch, Live Streaming all of that jazz

    I'm an audio engineer. I've spent every day for the last six years working with multi-thousand dollar mics and let me tell you. I have never wanted to buy a mic so badly. Purely selfish, but I'd love to pull this mic out when recording vocals just for the reactions. They'd all be so golden.

    Design aside this mic actually sounds pretty good for that 200 price range. Although i would probably go with the audio technica 2020 or even the Razer Siren I wouldn't mind this at all if i was using a more mobile set up.

    Has a really great sound! Maybe it isn't too hard to take it apart and put it in a different microphone enclosure. Only thing I wonder is how it compares to the Samson Meteor mic, which is definitely cheaper, easier to find, and a lot nicer to look at.

    I’m actually incredibly surprised and blown away by the audio quality on the Magnus. If it wasn’t because of the completely unnecessary and overblown design, i’d say it probably has some of the best audio quality of any streaming mic i’ve heard
