When I was 14 years old I borrowed my sisters cd and 2 songs in I was totally hooked for life. I immediately picked up define the great line from a Best Buy on my way to go in a trip to Kentucky to see family and I listened on repeat for days because of the same reason Spencer’s talking about it was special and I could tell immediately starting it in my cd player and I feel I love with it. I’ve had a lot of the same struggle with addiction and being in dark places because my life has been hard fought and barely recognize I was totally judged by the church for my hang up and I felt no comfort there so I just listened to the real lyrics coming from an incredible real band and it literally changed my life I shout them out everywhere I go I have the lyrics from to whom it may concerned tatted on me and the classic Underoath logo tatted on my wrist. This is not easy for music to have that impact on me but I can say with full confidence that Underoath a music spoke to me in such a profound way that it literally saved my life. I listened to them in rehab and listened when I just wanted to bleed out and it really got me through I’m not trying to be cheesy but I honestly don’t know where I’d be without this band. I’m 32 years old now and still Underoath is the band closest to my hard. It saved my life. I can’t even describe it. Thank you to Spencer and all of the band mates I hope you know I made it to 32 years old because of this band. Okay done with the emotional comment but goddamn bro the impact y’all have had in people like me is insane and I’m so exited to hear the new music. You probably hear this stuff all the time but know I mean it from the bottom of my heart. Arron is the reason I started going ham on the drums and inspired me to sing, Spencer showed me how to be real in music and not hold back. My cheesy ness has retuned so I’ll end it with thank you Underoath I wouldn’t be here with you all. Underoath for life. I hope sometime I have the money to go to another show. Much love guys do what makes you happy and that’s for me personally the most important thing. Much love from Missouri
UO changed my life. There was a CD called "you can't handle the tooth" and it had two UO songs on it. I was extremely sheltered as a pastor's son, so this band BLEW my mind forever❤
@@scrapson8789 it's not always so bad. Some Christian families aren't psycho bible beaters. Even if the ideology doesn't make sense to you, there are still plenty of good values instilled in religious households. This is coming from someone raised Christian who no longer identifies as such.
ME TOO!!! "You Can't Handle the Tooth" was how I discovered Underoath! And Writing On the Walls blew my mind. I listened to it on repeat for hours. I had never heard anything like it. Thank you Underoath for changing my life forever with one song!
awesome interview. Spencer was the nicest dude I talked to when I met him and the band at the marquee theater in Tempe back in 2019. Stoked to witness the 20th anniversary of They're Only Chasing Safety!
Saw them in NYC on the first night and prob the best show I've ever been to. Underoath are always amazing and genuinely one of the best bands of their era.
Agree. Saw them in Columbus and the energy and fun they were having was contagious. They really know how to get the crowd involved. Heck, I got to sing into the mic 3x when he came down to the front row multiple times. One of the funnest shows I've been to
Spencer let me scream "WHATEVER I SAY GOES" in his mic during Down, Set, Go in Indianapolis on October 2nd! Man, the They're Only Chasing Safety tour was amazing!
When the sun sleeps was my favorite song for almost all of my youth. Love Underoath and that song is actually tattooed on my wrists. "When the" on one arms wrist and "Sun Sleeps" on the other wrist. IN RED! Thats awesome they are playing that in the set. Ive not had a chance to see them live and I am gonna do my best to see them in St. Petersburg this December. Its a decent drive, but im sure itll be worth it. Even if I have to go alone, which I probably will.
I have seen these guy many times and I can honestly say they have NEVER disappointed live.. I may not have loved every record but those song i didn't care for, turned out to be some of my favorites from live shows. Keep doing your thing guys.
I only discovered chasing safety and underoath last year! After 6months of constant playing I then listened to DTGL and that’s one of my all time favourite albums. Such a sick band, saw them live a few months back too
When the sun sleeps was the first song I ever heard and loved when Spencer came in their only chasing safety and to this day one of my favorite albums to this day I'll see them dec 3rd and can't wait
Lets fucking go! Grew up here in Maine going to Mass to the Palladium in Worcester and have seen the boys countless times. Theyve come to maine too and ive seen them here but those palladium shows were always really special. Great interview!
Dude is a performer. They killed at Inkcarcwration last year to a crowd that had mostly never heard of them. The TOCS tour to loving fans who grew up with these guys has been amazing. Love the energy and fun they showed un Columbus. An awesome time
I was already hyped for the anniversary tour, hearing They’re Only Chasing Safety live, but now I’m extra hype hearing that they might even play When the Sun Sleeps 😍 Please play that in Cleveland!! Super pumped for the new album, too, of course! That old stuff is just nostalgic for me.
okay. this was the type of honesty i was waiting for from UO. But at the same time, if this album doesnt hit some of that satisfying flavors like he's talking about, i'm going to be confused as to what he's talking about.
I’m actually seeing underoath on Friday in Milwaukee! But I’m not going to lie, while I wasn’t sure about Teeth at first, it’s grown on me, it’s kind of catchy! I remember seeing the comments about the Erase Me album that UO put out and they got crucified for that too, but it was a good album. I’m stoked for the new UO record!
Got to see them in Philly and they played When The Sun Sleeps. My best friend passed away and that was one of his favorite songs. I’m so thankful that they had it on the list and it was really therapeutic and meaningful for me.
Thank god for spencer bro. Him and Aaron are an absolute legendary duo. Fkn one of a kind and there will never be a band like Underoath, so glad they got back together.
I personally love their work with REZZ, as a big D&B fan Teeth was maybe jarring but so awesome to hear, especially live. I understand why people might not like it though, it's so different.
The fuck Chasing Safety is 20 years old??? thanks for I don’t feel very receptive today. I can’t count the amount of times I listened to it growing up. Got me through a lot of bad times. Saw you guys at the Paramount during the Blind Obedience tour. It was a great night. First time hearing Loathe too and damn I was not ready for that.

DTGL is one of the 'no skip' albums for me. Excited to see them this year.
Manchester Orchestra opened for Jimmy Eat World last summer. And MO was so heavy. Check out their "COPE," "METN," and "Simple Math" albums.
Manchester Orchestra is exactly as Spencer describes Live. I’ve seen 3 times, so good.

Its not really that deep, they played it the last years tour too. 🙄
I remember listening to they're only chasing safety when it came out and how my parents said I will grow out of this screamy music phase LOL

Excited for the new album ! N I love the “teeth” single!
I saw a lot of people hating on “teeth” but I actually really liked it. When it gets heavy, it gets heavy. I think this album might pull me back in.

Spencer's description of Manchester Orchestra is spot on, also his lineup rules

There was one, Sausage King of Chicago 🫡 American Nightmare tour 2017 w/ Beartooth

I still think Disambiguation was their best album thus far. I could never really get into their 'lighter' stuff like TOCS or Erase me.
Definitely their most mature sound and has the most talented musicianship
Paper Lung hits different
Lost and Disambiguation were peak for me. I think that this next record can live in that echelon.
Heard, Deftoath is the best album
That album is indeed great, I can only imagine how much better it would have been had Aaron been on drums….

I still want that full version of how to UO in 30 sec. Be even better with Spencer and Aaron on it!
I hope UnderØath comes down to South Florida!
Spencer is 41 and looks 28. Never lost the ability to do what he does best. A true legend of Post Hardcore.

That’s true! However, give the new shit a chance, it’s legit good! I get it tho, it’s hard to shed the nostalgia!
I think that's more about people's nostalgia rather than the band themselves which is a shame because their later albums are really solid.
