Nice job Sir ! cambelt replacement always looks daunting, at the end of the day, it aint all that hard............you just have to be careful.............twin cams are a bit dodgy 😁
Lovely vid thanks I'm doing this job all been well in 2 days.quick question so when the pins are in and crank is locked is it necessary to undo the cam bolts to take the belt off and replace?
You really should rotate to the crank by hand using a knuckle bar a full cycle before putting the covers back on and checking that you all your marks still line up.
My cam belt snapped and need to check the head because the engine didnt seem the lock up, the cambelt was only half broke so I might be lucky, do I need to take off the bumper and radiator to be able to do the work?
You should be able to take the head . off fine without taking radiator or bumper off. Did the belt snap completely or just starting to tear ? You may be lucky but the very fact you know it snapped means something happen which would suggest engine stopped running in which case aim for bent valves. I hope you are lucky and this is not the case.. Either way You can do it 👍
@@YoucandoitwithJules Thank you mate. Yes it was part snapped but loose on the pulleys, the engine did a light thud but didnt lock up, I thought maybe the belt could of been tight enough to keep the timing close to what it should be. Thanks again!
Good day sir....im busy with the same job.....would like to have the torque settings for every bolt removed please Waterpump Cambelt tensioner Rollers Crank pulley Engine mounting
Excellent video… clear and meticulous! My bet is that you’ve done a better job than most garages !
Thanks for the feedback. Yes garages aren’t what they used to be. You can do it 👍
Very informative and straightforward, thanks from down under !
Hello thanks we try to keep it that way. Keep us posted. You can do it 👍

No you don't have to. Some might do to give them more wiggle room but you don't have to. You can do it :)

Thats why its in the video have you not seen that part ? You can do it .
So, adjusting the 3 cam and diesel pump pully bolt's ,do you need to hold the centre bolt in position ?
No just hold the pulley and tighten the bolts. Center bolt is locked as you have the pins which stops rotation. You can do it :)
Are the locking tools, particularly the crankshaft locking tool the same for a T6 engine? Regards Stephen
If it’s the 2.0 tdi then yes should be. You can do it 👍
Did you replace the tensioner stud ???
No. That is not necessary unless the threads are stripped. You can do it.
@@YoucandoitwithJules I would always advise replacing due to Cyclic stress seen a few at work snapped
Great video fella 👍🏻

Do you have a link for the locking kit?

Hi I don't have them at hand and I believe I mentioned them in the video. If in doubt check with dealer. Hope this helps. You can do it
Are you sure the cam locking pin isn’t supposed to go in all the way??
Hi depends how long your pins are. The set I have always has 10mm of space. You can feel when it’s goes all the way in. You can do it 👍
Thanks! I did it and it runs!
@@jshep73 Great News 👍 You can do it 👍
When should you change the cam belt got it on 55k not sure if it was done b4? its now on 118k
Around now just to be safe. You can do it.
Hi i last got the timing belt done on my vw t5 at 50,000 miles its done 83,000 miles is it due a new one.
You should be fine , it’s only done 33,000miles since the last change 👍
So you don't need to get the engine out?
No need at all.
Is this a job for a reasonable DIY mechanic?
Yes if you can follow the video and do the work. You can do it 👍
These manufacturers deliberately make vehicles to wear for max profit. Definitely not made like they use to be.
Planned obsolescence, from mobile phones, toasters to the auto industry. Sadly our over consumption will be the end of us.
hy i only buy cars with a chain. never had a chain fail in my 40 years and 4 million miles of driving.
had 3 belts snap destroying the cars.
What’s your thoughts on this noise from the timing section?

Link doesn't work for me. You can do it 👍
I can't believe you have to change belt /water pump tensioner every 4 years regardless of mileage... I'll be on less that 20k in 4 years 😂
That’s by the book. Personally I only go by the mileage. You can do it 👍
Remember, this is a commercial vehicle where uptime is much more important than with a normal car
