Thank you so much, that seems to have fixed my problem.
I did a little digging to try to understand what those numbers mean.
1: "System-Specifies a driver that loads and starts during kernel initialization after drivers with a Start value of 0 have been
started."
3: "On Demand-Specifies a driver or service that the Service Control Manager (SCM) will start only on demand."
So choosing 1 means the driver is loaded automatically when Windows starts, with 3 the driver will start when Windows sees a need for it, which is why it would (usually) start if I kept hitting a key when Windows was booting.
thanks for the tips buddy :)
so changing to 1 didnt work for me shuld i try other values??
@@aksharpatel1097 Why not? As long as you don't do anything too far off you shouldn't break Windows. I'm STILL Having the problem, it's just not as bad. Windows never sees my keyboard at a cold boot, but when it's rebooted it always sees it.... so for me the "fix" is to start the computer, then reboot it.
@@aksharpatel1097 KEEP PRESSING start button untill it shuts off and should works
I finally got mine working. WOOHOO!
Works perfectly. Fast, concise, straight to the point tutorial. If only every problem had an instruction how to fix it like this video provides. Thank you for making and uploading this.
Half an hour of google searches were no help, yours was the first video listed and it did the trick. Thank you very much for the step-by-step guide, my good man. A true gentleman and scholar.
Exactly
Dude , I can't believe this actually worked. I am typing this message from my PS/2 keyboard :)) I tried different solutions from Microsoft Community and the right solution was on Yt, at a 2-3 minutes video. Thank you very very much.
I was so excited reading the comments hoping it would work, but it didn’t :(
Same!
Same
It wont work for windows 10
@@Rocky80943 It did for me thankfully.
@@mxcherryblue5943 good for you friend..

I'm typing this using my PS/2 keyboard right now. Thank you for this lifesaver
Thank you bro, now it's working fine.
My man, I feel like hugging you!
Spent the better part of the last 10 hours trying various fixes, after a driver updater software disabled my laptop keyboard and mousepad, with Windows somehow failing to revert to backup points, and each convoluted fix offered online would just keep breaking more stuff.
Eventually found the name of the port on my own (by fiddling through Windows sub-menus intuitively and safely), googled it, found your video, such a simple, straightforward fix, puts the dozens of labirynthian tutorials I read to shame!
Simple, clear, straight forward and short. Perfect tutorial. Liked and subbed.
Dang it! Still not working. I did change that value from 3 to 1, but still not working. its a laptop. any other idea? thanks
Thank you for this! Gotta love how pain fully obtuse a computer can seem to a layman! Nice clear quick vid got me sorted in no time, much appreciated
Fix does not work in my computer. Maybe this works on certain Win10 versions only.
It didn't work for me😥
Jacqueline Idio same nothing ever works for me
Had to do 2 restarts and then a start from a cold shutdown before it worked.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart and may God bless you and your family.I recently put together an am4 build,I have a Gigabyte aorus B550 pro AC with wifi and an AMD Ryzen 5 3600X cpu.I was getting all messed up because my Device Manager insisted on showing that I had a standard ps/2 keyboard plugged into my motherboard without any drivers and what I have and always use is a usb keyboard so I don't know why "Broken Windows 10 pro" put a standard ps/2 keyboard in my Device Manager because my Gigabyte aorus B550 pro AC doesn't have any ps/2 connectors at all.I tried to uninstall the standard ps/2 keyboard from my Device Manager and I couldn't get it to uninstall no matter how many times I tried.I also searched for generic drivers for a standard ps/2 keyboard and I couldn't find any. Finally I came across your video and thank the good Lord (blessed and praised be His name,Amen.) your video helped me to permanently remove the standard ps/2 keyboard from my Device Manager.I can't thank you enough. If I could give you twenty thumbs up and much more I would because you deserve that.
Thank you so much, that seems to have fixed my problem.
LEGEND!!! Doesn‘t understand the dislikes, worked as it should. Greetings from Germany! ✌🏽
Thanks so much. You really helped me after much frustration. Don't know why it changed to 3 in the first place though.
I have a double problem ... Both PS/2 keyboard and mouse just stop working..It was working a few months ago..and I tried it today and had one problem then restarted after jiggling the ports connectors and now both are irresponsive.
Dude, you're my hero! Thanks for saving my day!. It really works for my case
me too thx
Can confirm, this does work. My cheap keyboard bit the dust when I spilt a soda on it but I remembered I had a Ps/2 keyboard from emachines. My mobo is a b450 a pro max, this video saved my life.. well.. helped me get back to my games quicker
Sadly, it did not work for me. Thanks for the info!
Just plug right colour port holes it wrks
@@veer97123 unless the keyboard itself is broken
Keyboard has the power light on now but still won’t work. Getting closer, thanks for the help!
Same issue
@@kushanudarakumarasiri6486 set value 4 and restart
Thank you, it was so helpful, my ps/2 port wasn't working, just 3 blinking once and then not recognized even with a ps2/USB converter, but I did the regedit that you suggested and the amount for start was 3, after changing it to 1 and restarting system it worked. Good job👍👌
How did you use regedit without a keyboard, stop deceiving everyone!
@@psongman9536 If you follow the tutorial closely, I show you how to use regedit without a keyboard...
@@TheHowToGuy123 I can't believe you said that, can't get into the computer to do regedit, which I know how to use. You really need to go to a regular person's house and watch their computer and it would be evident!
hi,i bought normal ps2to usb connector and i run all you said exactly like you but it didn't work please help me( i have laptop with usb3 )
Hello, if you haven't fixed it yet: Most people only buy the adapter such as PS/2 to USB But that doesn't work. Instead of an adapter you'll need an adapter converter. It's larger. It will convert ps2 to usb not just an adapter.
Im a little late, but damn thank you bro. Tutorials like this never seem to work, but yours did and it took no time at all. You're a real one.
Thank you so much. I had a TVS feather touch keyboard that was PS/2 and I didn't realize that the windows 10 upgrade what the culprit that forced me to change to a USB keybhoard. The instructions in your video got my old PS/2 keyboardf working and I am now enjoying it again. Thanks a ton.
I did what you did but it still didn’t work
You may update the PS2 mouse driver from Device Manager manually and check if this helps.
Press (Windows key + X) and click on “Device Manager”.
Expand “Mouse” or “Mice and other pointing devices”.
Right click on the driver and select “Update Driver Software”. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.
TheHowToGuy123 thanks! It works now
Awesome!
@@TheHowToGuy123 wait where can i update it on Device Manager
It's working perfectly..
Thanks bro...
Albert Rabinson good for you
sigh mine didnt work. Should i change it back to 3 or stay at 1?
Thanks alot bro 🙌🏽 Great video! well explained, clear and fast. Keep the hard work💪🏽
Unfortunately this didn't work on a recently purchased box with Windows 11 on it. There is power to the NumLock key that will turn on and off, the other two locks are not functioning. There us a Keyboard error message on Bootup prior to Windows being loaded.
I must admit I was worried when I saw the registry, but this totally worked! Thanks a million!
Did this on the old school computers that still use ps/2. There was an old ps/2 keyboard and I plugged it in. After following this video, it worked.
Hey! You really made my day! My keyboard perfectly works now. Thanks for this making this video!!
It is still not working for me. When I use regularly, it works fine but while playing games, where I have to multi touch, it doesn't work. When I press one button, it works, then I press second, both work then I press third and first/second stops working .... Can't even play games
Fixed my issue, Thanks man!
It still doesn't work, whyyyyy, I can't take it anymore, this is the only pc I got, I tried everything, even this one, my keyboard still doesn't work.
Thanks a bunch, dude! Saved my day!
I plugged in a new usb keyboard and now I’m switching to ps2 keyboard again. I had this problem and this video really helped me out. It works again. Thanks
I did it ...now my mouse has gone🙂
reallllllyyyyy
It didn't work for me. On my keyboard only a few keys work for some reason. I did what you said and the problem still occurs. Please help.
That sounds more like a bad keyboard. Have you tried a different one?
Perfect, thanks!
hey! this did not work for me -- im trying to connect an alphasmart 2000 to my windows 10, but it just simply will not get recognized and its driving me insane. any help would be appreciated !
Didn't work for me... but I am using win/11 and used a ps/2 convert to usb and am not sure if this would require something else...
Guys, B4 anything else, try something more simple (worked for me when NOTHING else did...) it even worked after I "accidentally" deleted my Ps/2 generic keyboard Driver (Facepalm!)
1st: shutdown ur PC completely
2nd: unplug EVERY USB devise (Mouse, joysticks, external HDD, etc) and leave ONLY ur old Ps2 keyboard plugged.
3rd: with ONLY ur old Ps2 keyboard plugged.. start up ur PC
4th: after windows 10 strarts, check if your keyboard is working again (u can even check it with the num lock key if it turns the key light on and off your KB its already working)
5th: once your KB is working plug back everything else.
leave a like or a comment if it worked for u :)
when i wanna change it to 1 , it says "error editinf value" and "cannot edit start : Error writing the value's new content
I have a weird problem.. I have an external keyboard, internal keyboard, and the onscreen keyboard. None of these keyboard can type the number "3". The numpad one works, but not the one on top of the letters. Any help?
THIS ACTUALLY WORKED You don't know how long I've been struggling not being able to use ctrl for like a month and nothing else worked. Thank you so much, now all my keys are working!!
It did not work. Please help!!
I had old ps2 keyboard in which I replaced the ps2 cable with usb cable but it didn't work on my laptop with Windows 10.
It didnt help me. my side numerical keys are still not working after i put in my password and windows takes over. any solves for that issue?
Thank you so much this still works my keyboard worked fine for a while then just stopped working this fix worked first try!!

Hey, it didn't work for me, my computer still says device not recognized, I am using a ps2 to usb adapter if that has anything to do with it. Pls help thanks
dude i have had this problem for days and this helped big time 😭😭
Pitty, it did not work for me. I have three or four keys that don't work. Or better: sometimes they work, sometimes not. Any tips?
Modifying the "Start" value from 3 to 1 did not work for me, but modifying the "Start" value to 2 did work for me. Now I can use my favorite PS/2 keyboard with Windows 10. Thanks.
I am losing control of the keys of on my latop keyboard, first began with the E, D, C, now right Shift, Enter and Z doesn't work either, I check my keyboard in the Control Panel and it says it fine, but it seems that I losing more and more control over it.
Got a new PC and the old PS/2 keyboard wasn't responding no matter what I did. This fixed it. Much appreciated~
still not working for my PS2 keyboard and mouse.
my mouse has power(its sensor is on) but still didn't show in my driver. my mobo: a320 s2h
Thanks so much, I found this keyboard in the trash but it still works, and with your video I got it working on my pc, thanks again!
I have an old ass keyboard that worked on an old monitor and I bought a ps/2 to usb adapter and it says "usb device not recognized", did I get a shitty one or is my keyboard broken?
So i have two adapters ps/2 adapters and im trying to connect my ps2 keyboard and mouse into my laptop.
I did what you said and it didn't work
My laptop does notice the ps/2 ports being connected but they can't do anything with them
Quick fix, worked flawlessly. my reg value was 3, switched to 1 and restarting worked.
My hp 630 laptop keyboard works fine is bios but not inside windows(win 7 prof x64)
plz i tried everything but nothing works plz guys i dont have the $ to buy new one
I modified the value from 3 to 1 and re-started the notebook but neither external keyboard nor existing onboard keyboard are working... I tried to import backup reg file but not successful... the error showed some machine codes were opened or I did not have right to do it, ☹please help. Thanks so much
Thank you but didn't work for me. I've had my keyboard removed from my computer for awhile and I think that in the Windows update process it was removed and is now simply not recognised. Perhaps if I try a PS/2 to USB adapter it may work.
omg thank you, i found this older keyboard and connected it and wasn't working and was very sad because i really like the keyboard. big up my guy
So glad I found this video, cannot believe this worked. Currently typing this comment with my ps/2 keyboard! Thanks so much!
wow man you have no idea how much this helped after hours of googling the problem. I had reset my cmos and when I turned back my pc the keyboard was just out. Thank you very much.

THANKS BRO, I spent an hour looking for old keyboard drivers and found absolutely nothing... You helped me a lot!!
In my case..some keys r not working even after trying this method...any suggestions?
Just did a "system refresh" on old pc running win 10 and now USB and PS2 not working. get to initial screen in windows showing to select region etc.... but have no mouse or keyboard inputs. was working before refresh.... any ideas? do i need to reset something in bios?
It didn't fix the problem i have which is my keyboard working fine except few keys like (4 5 6 0 delete ) do you have any idea 😩🤦🏻♂️
My text service framework is not running? How to fix ? This didn’t worked for me😔😔
It says it is working in device manager but it is not working, so why does it say it is working when it dont? Also any ways to fix that?
I have done as you said. But still not working. keyboard working for recovery.
But for Windows 10 same issue even after following ur steps.
EPIC! Thanks for the quick and easy guide! Esp love that you showed how to launch the onscreen keyboard, which none of the higher "top search results" did. Actually, none of them even mentioned regedit! This should be the top result, Google!!!
Could this also work for the laptop built-in PS/2 keyboard? Have issues there, tried your procedure and while setting 3>1 the value in Start the KB diagnostic did not pass.
Some key (a, d, enter, esc, etc) doesnt work.
Does anyone have the solution for that kind of problem?
Please reply if you do.. thank you very much
But why, though? What does it do? Magic incantations aren't very comforting
IT WORKED ON WINDOWS 11. I PURCAHSED A PS2 KB AND IT WASNT DETECTED. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT WORK THANK YOU FROM THE PHILIPPINES
Ps. The driver for usb keyboard was focked up so i decided to just purchase a $2 keyboard
I connected ps-2 keyboard with usb-ps-2 adapter, but does not work on Win 10.
Do not know if my issue has been that that I only have the HIB keyboard drivers showing in Device Manager but no Standard PS/2. So how to do get the Standard installed? Perhaps I inadvertently deleted it, but cannot recall doing so.
so changing to 1 didnt work for me shuld i try other values??

Thank you very much! I had no idea that this would work, and from multiple videos that i've watched, this one actually worked. Saved me hundreds of dollars and earnt a subscriber!
Thanks man it worked! I removed the PS2 keyboard from the port without turning off PC and reinserted it. Even after turning off and retrying multiple times didnt work. Luckily this worked.
What happens when it doesn’t work. I looked at the driver keyboard thing and it said it’s not working. Nothing else? Please help.. I’m financially not in the position to just buy another like windows is telling me lol

Thank you for showing the virtual keyboard. Please note that Ease Of Access was buried and took quite a while to find, but once I got it, I could follow the required steps.
It works on windows 7 as well but you have to shut it down and start it by hand, the restart choice wont work
when i do it and i try changing the value to 1 it says error
