To be Honest, I'd say not very exciting. You have to have a fuel powered Generator to charge all of those E vehicles, and guessing a Fuel powered Truck to carry it. (and more Fuel. ) Plus with the support you have along, it's not just two guys on E-Bikes against the World. Though I do not believe that it was your intention to do anything but have a grand adventure ride on new, and less than proven Technology. (a big plus) this will most likely be turned into an advert for the Bikes you rode. I'm happy you arrived safely, and look forward to any future adventures you may plan. (Tell Boorman to stop popping wheelies please. )

In a way I think they tarnished the LWR legacy with this paid trip... :( It's also comes across as over the top and fake, in this typical American overblown style. On the other hand - with that HD they are targeting mostly people from US so who knows, maybe that's how it should be produced. Any way, with so many people on YT posting their RTW adventures it really feels like there's no point in having a sponsored one like this to be honest.

@@funguseater40 I'm not supprised. People are fed up with big bikes like GS - they cost a fortune, are heavy and impractical for daily use. I sold GS1200 after a season, got 790R and I'm not planning to go back to bigger bikes. As for Germany I would wait for official data. GS had always strong position there, people like gadgets there and favor their own motorization plus riding off-road is pretty much banned. But the point is the near future belongs to lighter adventure bikes and they should have made a movie about that, not this paid advertisement crap.

It’s not like there’s a huge amount of this type of thing on television, at least not in the UK. Don’t suppose it will come close to the original, sequels rarely do, but if the chemistry is still there between Ewan and Charlie then maybe it will be a decent watch.

  • @iamwezlee1
    @iamwezlee1 5 років тому +5

Well....... there are several items that detract from this new endeavor by Ewan and Charlie.
First, is the fact that they have this huge entourage following them. Back when Long Way Round aired, it was overlooked since adventure riding was “relatively” new (though even before that time there were solo riders) But today, there are countless folks who ride around the world solo.
Second is the whole electric thing. Really? We’re just not there yet. Standard bikes allow the riders to easily maintain their rides enroute.
Third is the HD badge. It just doesn’t elicit an “adventure” vibe. Maybe a millennia go, hard core riders chose that brand, but today it conjures up images of people with too much money and few riding skills.
I’ll stick to watching Itchy Boots, Pedro Moto, heck even Ed Marsh!!!

These are fun to watch, but are not even close to ADV riding, because they are fully supported, and usually have extra bikes and more support than a small army could afford, that's what comes of having a major film star and a major film producers son in the saddle. These guys are good riders, I would love to see, Charlie and Ewan do and unsupported trip just with their own cameras and their own thoughts. They would need different more reliable bikes maybe DR 650's

It's sort of funny that people that say they're not interested in watching Long Way Up are here commenting on this. I'm guessing that most people that ride motorcycles have seen the series so far and will watch LWU when it is released. I know I will... though it's not with fervor that I'm anticipating it. I simply like all things motorcycle related and that springs from my lifelong love of riding. LWA was more interesting that LWD for me... mostly because of the perception that they took a route that was tougher and more rugged, it was their first time on such an adventure, and I think the fact they faced some real challenges just made it more fun to watch. LWD felt more produced... less adventurous... and watching them squabble over stupid stuff brought more of the prissy primadonna character of Charlie and Ewan to the screen... I mean... dudes, you get to ride bikes that are hand prepared for you through some pretty extraordinary geography and you're whining like babies and fighting like children! Get a grip! I'm interested to watch LWU for several reasons, one, because they're taking a route up through SA and CA that I think would be really cool to ride. But it would be way more interesting for me if two things weren't true... that they were really riding it without so much support that most of us could never have... and that they weren't riding those ridiculous electric bikes through country that, without that support, I seriously doubt they'd ever make it through. It was a bad choice, in my opinion, to think that catering to this politically correct notion that riding electric bikes is going to somehow save the planet and/or appeal to millenials or Generation Z, or whatever. I'm an old guy... started riding motorcycles in 1967... for me, motorcycles are gas driven things that make a lot of noise. But I don't care what your particular reason for motorcycling is or what kind of riding you like to do... I regard all motorcyclists as brothers or sisters and always throw a wave at every one I pass. Even when they're prissy Hollywood types.

In 2010 the 2-seat all-electric SRZero built by Imperial College(London) EV "Racing Green" radicals far exceeded what Ewan et al have attempted ten years later: in 2010 they drove 16,000 miles from Alaska to the southernmost tip of Argentina down the Pan American Highway - and BBC World filmed the whole thing - it became one of the most popular, widely-viewed docu-series they ever broadcast.
The SRZero averaged over 260 miles per charge - ten years ago ! Oh - and they were powered by Chinese "ThunderSky" li-ion batteries. The S. American segment is still fully viewable on UA-cam(links below). A full detailed written travelogue of the entire trip is also available here:

LWR was great. just living by the day and going further and further. Long way down had all these planned out trips in it. hopping on a plane and going to a side of the Red Cross. I was less to guys taking a trip and going where the wind blows.
With these electric biks off side camping is out of order, no tent in the middle of a savana.

This looks far too “staged” to me. The support required to get these big, heavy and short range bikes over that distance in a relatively short time, shows just how little resonance the wealthy film stars of motorcycle travel have with the real bikers of this world. Noraly aka Itchy Boots is totally real, and has no support crew, trucks, backup parts etc. having just moved down to G310GS bikes - I agree with a previous comment that small bikes are the future for real world off road and adventure riding. We have done over 10,000 kms on our little bikes in 12 months and they have been so much more fun than trying to muscle a big heavy bike & wreck your day when you drop it & injure yourself under it.

I love the silent twisting face moment about their choose of the live-wire because it's best. I actually said out loud. "Exactly" There are better electric bikes then the HD. The whole "green" electric everything is BS. The technology and material to create them puts more carbon in the environment and almost always it's fossil fuels that charges them. Maybe a little more green but selling green technology and "green" is BS.

I forgot about your question. I"m not real excited about the story. I think it's a sale's pitch. They are covering a lot of ground in an adventure type trip with a machine not designed to cover long distances. The support vehicles including backup battery or generators shows this issue. In reality the trip would take much longer because they would not have reliable electrical sources to recharge. There are places you can't be sure of getting descent gasoline much less quality electricity. The bike is really the wrong bike for what they are doing but it's advertising.

Choose Electric . Choose a charger. Choose a current. Choose a whirling sound. Choose a fucking big battery. Choose amps. Choose zero emissions, low carbon footprints and mental insurance. Choose fixed-gear. Choose no starter motor. Choose the chance of getting electrocuted in a rain storm; frying on the seat of your pants. Choose stopping at every charge point on the way to a coffee shop on Sundays; wondering why you bought into this crap. Choose fuses, Zero TT, lithium ion, LTO, and Rev 'n' Go, and Gogoro. Choose corroding at the end of it all, unable to ampere it up anymore, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, up-fucked brats high on SMATs you spawned. Choose your Z-Vehicle. Choose Electric. But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose electric. I chose somethin’ else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you’ve got fossil fuel; internal combustion; four and two strokes; R1s, Busas, CR500s, V-Max, and Buell?”

Shes at 76,000miles roughly at the moment. By the time I get the bike shipped over to the USA, she may well have done 100,000miles. So it will be 00000 on the milage dials quite possibly.
Sponsership.. zero... back up cash in the bank... £13.98p Dealership support, non-exsistant, they stopped making the bike in 2004.

This trip looks like an advertisement for HD which has incredible sinking sales. No one wants to spend over $40,000 on an electric bike in Canada. And the average joe can’t go on a long trip of this kind while towing multiple charging stations, generators, extra battery packs and an entourage with them. Why? Cause we’re not multi- millionaires with nothing to do. Since HD can’t innovate and can’t release a bike for under $30-40,000 in Canada as part of their “New Roads to HD”, they will soon be bankrupt again and likely out of business for good cause there is no way Trump is giving them a federal bail out like they got in 2008 to the tune of 3.2 billion dollars to stay in business. 5 years ago HD sole 360,000 bikes world wide and in 2019 they will be lucky to sell 190,000. That’s a 53% drop in sales! Can you saw “Going out of business”.
    Keep up the great videos

If Harleys involved it will be a overly long wait, over priced and over produced .. & the T-shirts will be made in China for 50 cents and on sale for $65.

    Are they hard core? No
Is this adventure? Not in biking terms
Are they paid with a crew? Yes
Will it be more interesting than watching most crap on TV? Probably
Are E bikes the future? Like it or not they will have to be so in some respects this show if done well could be a marker.
Proof will be in the watching.
LWR was engaging, LWD wasn't very good.
LWU could be a load of sh1t or it could rescue HD and drive development money into making better E bikes.

Sounds like a big promo for the livewire... this shit is almost impossible on electric motorcycle without all the equipment following you🤣 and how thoughtful and cute are for them to go to poor ass people to charge for hours their vehicles... do that on your own like itchy boots and then tell me what you do with you motorcycle without charge in the middle of nowhere 😂 electric motorcycles in the real world makes non sense to me...

Dont like electric bikes not enough sound people are going to get run over. Also I dont like young kids being forced to mine for chemical elements used in battery production in poorer parts of the world , not seen Greta there yet 🤔
