Balance of Terror (reverse warp remake)

- Good Morning ladies and gents. Here's another remake for ya: Balance of Terror (reverse warp remake). This time I followed the episode more closely with the phasers. Having one fire off first (phaser one), then the other (phaser two), right before they overload. I couldn't added CGI clips to the original footage but I didn't want to drag out a video. (Unless you guys want something like that in the future).
I know the warp sequence was actually 2 minutes (according to dialog) before the plasma torpedo looses is strength and hits the Enterprise, but again, I didn't want to drag it out that long. I did however add the bit where he calls for full astern, emergency warp. Along with Sulus countdown.
What's coming up next will be something you guys will surely love. Deals with a certain....machine. Until then...enjoy :)

Niice, one of my absolute favourite tos episodes ever
I approve of adding turrets and torpedo tubes. Makes no sense to have those vfx come from nowhere.
To me the original Enterprise is the best, thanks for sharing this awesome video!!! 🖖🖖
This just looks so damn awesome the detail on the model is astounding I never thoughtvthectorpedosxwoukd be above the lower phaser bank
Some tough choices here - well done. The dialog said "phasers" while the original FX and depth-charge style explosions were really more like photon torpedos.
That's because photon torpedoes - introduced later - used the Pulse Phaser effects until they made unique effects for torpedoes in Season 3 (You can see the new torpedoes in _Elaan of Troyus,_ original version). The Pulse Phaser was also used in _Errand of Mercy,_ in exactly the same way, so it's not meant to be interpreted as a photon torpedo.
@@Idazmi7 Errand of Mercy had no enemy ship(s) or returning Starfleet support in the original broadcast. The Klingons were just tactical blips. There was no D7 model until season 3 and then they used it to death. All space VFX in Errand were reused from earlier episodes, such as Balance, Mantrap and the second pilot's stock shots. I don't think any new Enterprise of spacescape footage was shot that late in S1. Very little was shot in S2 as salary increase demands by Nimoy and the supporting cast were eating up the VFX budget.
Balance of terror.
The best episode ever.
Nice job
it's baseed on a submarine movie. can't go wrong with a submarine movie

Honestly, watching you improve your skills all these years is an amazing experience, keep it up and never forget your fans 😉
Round of applause. You took one of the best episode’s weakest nitpicks and transformed it into something that’s riveting and believable. Bravo! Amazing scene. It’s canon to ME!
That was way more satisfying than I thought it would be!!
This remake is Absolutely awesome ! Excellent job.
With all due appreciation and respect to the remastered crew at CBS THIS, or something very similar to it, is the way this part of the remastered episode should have been done. But I still very much appreciate allot of the other work they did on the show!
That is 1 of my favourite scenes from TOS & 2 C the Enterprise doing the reverse warp it was totally Amazing great video I'm going 2 watch Balance of Terror again 2day
I can only theorize the plasma was somehow pulled into the warp field for it to travel that way.
Great scene from a great episode. Nicely done.
Excellent visualization
Wow, more please!
🖖😎👍Very cool and very well nicely done indeed 👌.
WOW! GREAT effects!👍🖖
GOOSE BUMPS AND CHILLS!!!!! That was epic great job
Awesome sauce! The dialog mix was a nice touch 👏.
Absolutely amazing!
Awesome as always
*MY GOD MAN!*
Imagine these stories but with modern day VFX from people like you!
*IT'D BE G L O R I O U S ! ! ! ! !*
Awesome! These are so much fun.
Nice. I like the proximity detonation of the phasers.
Great job, as usual!
Excellent
Great work!!!
Awesome scene! Well done.
Beautiful work, never seen such a detailed model of the old connie that was better than this. Well done!
Love it!
That was cool!
Very cool.
And people wonder why Kirk was the best tactician in Star Fleet.
Meanwhile, people wonder why no other starship has ever tried warping in reverse ever since....
Or firing Phasers as pulsed proximity blasts
(on to other episodes)
Or channeling ship's Phasers through a device they could beam down to a planet
Or setting ship's Phasers to stun to knock out a city block
Or beaming down a case of antimatter do destroy a near indestructible cloud creature
Or doing a slingshot warp around a star to perform makeshift time travel (oh how useful that could have been at Wolf 359)
So many things in TOS we never see again LOL
@@k1productions87
The pulsed phaser blasts were seen again in _Errand of Mercy,_ and we see them use the Warp Slingshot in _The Voyage Home._ It's not TOS's fault that TNG's writers never did the research... or had any basic sense. Seriously, what's keeping the Enterprise-D from remote-detonating a torpedo on a planet's surface, or setting phasers to stun a rioting crowd on a planet? Nothing but the writers.
@@Idazmi7 i thought it was torpedoes in errand of mercy. But i was refering to TNG forgetting TOS stuff
@@k1productions87
In _the first scene_ of Errand of Mercy, you can hear Kirk explicitly say "activate pulse phasers" when the enterprise gets jumped by a Klingon scoutship. They even respected that in the remastered version, where pulse phasers and photon torpedoes have different VFX.
@@Idazmi7 i guess i havent seen it lately
It appears the plasma torpedo got caught in the warp bubble.
You can't back up at warp?! Hold my beer ;)
We never saw/heard of any other ship reversing at warp.
nice
NICE....
i love this and would also love to see your take on the V'ger Attack on the Enterprise A!
Beautiful rendering of a classic episode. One thing is confusing; the Enterprise could see the Romulan ship de-cloak and fire. That means the Plasma bolt was traveling sub-light speeds so when the Enterprise enters warp she should have been able to outrun it. If the bolt was fired at warp speed Kirk never would have seen it coming but, that's from a shortcut taken by the original writers. Big fan, love your videos.
It would be cool to see a full tactical of the Balance of Terror. It'sa must see for tactical geeks
Good luck 👍
So it looks like you're depicting the plasma torpedo as pursuing the Enterprise at warp due to being caught in the Enterprise's warp bubble as she tried to evade. While that makes a certain amount of sense (after all, how exactly is an energy torpedo fired at sublight supposed to accelerate to FTL on its own?), I think there's something to be said for how terrifying such a weapon could be. Where would the Romulans be if they'd put in the R&D to truly develop a potentially-starship busting weapon that you could fire from sectors away?
It suddenly makes the Treaty of Algeron a much better idea for the Federation. They give up using cloaking devices, and the Romulans never develop a plasma torpedo that they could use to attack Earth from Romulus.
If the writers were better at astrophysics (they were cowboy show and WWII series writers/adapters) then Balance could have been made into a high concept SF episode.
Romulans have no warp, but if they travel in normal space at near C they would be experiencing time at a very slow rate compared to Enterprise. The space normal travel would mean they might have been at space for 80 or 90 earth years, but to them just days out of Romulus...assuming Romulus was 50 to 70 ly away. It'd be even more plausible if Romulus was 30ly away just past the Vega Colony and just the other side of Vulcan which of course it was originally imagined to be. It was Red China and Vulcan was Japan 1966. The Korean War was the Earth Romulan War with the DMZ
Enterprise would have to drop out of warp space (subspace) to engage them. Time dilation would make the various points of view very complex. Too complex for those writers, and likely too complex for the viewers....which is why Star Trek ignored time dilation in favor of magical time warps...poplar in the 50s and 60s.
By going to emergency warp the plasma torpedo might be sucked into their warp field and dragged, like a magnetic mine attached to a ship.
However in TOS warp was jet speed above speed of sound. Space normal was WWII prop plane speeds of 200 and 300mph. It was a series dreamed up by a Army Air Corps bomber pilot, motorcycle cop.
Well done! What it could have looked had we the tech…
very good but it would have been better if the ship lights malfunction at the end but 10/10
0:40 bruh they fr said *NONONONONOONONONON GET AWAYYYYYYYYYY*
That was Star Trekiriffic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The (0:10-0:13) opening shot of the Enterprise is impressive but the close-up phaser firing should have been cut(0:17-0:21 and 0:30-0:32), the reverse warp is really nice🤔
How would the Enterprise be able to go to warp in reverse?
constitution class did not have phasers on the upper half of the saucer
this is so incredibly good, do you have a patreon?
how would this work in reality?
They can warp backwards?!?!?!
Secondo me la Enterprise non può andare in retromarcia in quel modo!
So..... they couldn't just move....to the side?
Less drama that way😉
Maybe it was tracking them. The Romulans set aside considerable budget for this weapon...why not throw in tracking capabilities?
It was explicitly _chasing_ them.
kirk probably assumed the torpedo wouldn't follow them while at warp.
@@joeswanson733
He wouldn't assume that. In TOS, many, _many_ weapons were fully able to track ships at Warp. He was trying to outrun it.
Daddy Like.
I dont understand the liner in space why cant you just reverse warp like why does the ship has to go forward you can put the same amount of power in reverse an still make a stable warp bubble
that's the cool thing about TOS , this is the only time we ever saw a reverse warp and none of the other shows ever showed it.
The ship had to reverse warp the aft photon torpedoes/Phasers were offline.
well actually the torpedoes still worked but they ....forgot. lol
Sorry but contrary to popular belief you cannot go back in time. Hence why u travel faster than light which is way way faster than time. Remember the future is written. It's just how you spend time in earth until you reach that time
Ignoring the fact nobody knows that for certain, where was time travel mentioned in this video?
Sweet!! That was a cool effect. 😎
