This is why Damon’s my favorite. He’s just a broken guy who got betrayed and abandoned by everyone he loved. His mother, his father, his brother, his first love (Katherine). He’s been through so much and it made him close his heart. But even though he had his heart mostly closed, it doesn’t mean he didn’t know how to show it when he wanted. Even when he was pissed at Stefan after they turned, he still did the right thing when he wanted. Like trying to clean up after Stefan and his trail of bodies when they first turned, then telling Lexi to take care of him and help him even though he was mad at him for forcefully turning him into a vampire. 1912 tried being his brother again and tried to build a relationship with him. Next, when they reunited in WW2 he wanted his brother back and didn’t mind reconnecting with him. Yet he knew Lexi was right in saying for him to let him go and let Stefan find his own way. That’s the one thing I hate about Stefan. He’s always so quick to judge Damon and automatically think that his brother won’t be there for him, or that his brother doesn’t care. Damon has proven time and again that he does care, and that he’s almost always there to bail out Stefan’s ass one way or another. Whether Stefan physically sees it or not. I hate Damon’s line to Stefan when he says that up until he met Elena he wasn’t interested in doing the right thing for anyone including his brother. That was a total lie. Because throughout the show up til that moment, we’ve seen Damon in the past, sacrifice and do the right thing by Stefan over and over again. He may not be a perfect brother, but Damon has always been a good brother to Stefan, when he chooses to be. It’s too bad that Stefan never really bothered/cared to notice or realize just how much his brother did for him. He just writes him off and is always so quick to think the worst of him, even though Damon protects, defends, helps, and saves him from the shadows, silently, without Stefan ever even knowing a lot of the times.
I think Stefan is quick to judge Damon because he uses that as a tactic to bring out Damon's humanity. Deep down, Stefan always believes Damon can be redeemed, and he's not wrong.
@@JVC_00 I can see that. But I think it's also because Stefan a lot of the times truly believes that Damon won't come through for him or won't be there for him when it really counts. Perfect example, in this video where Stefan is walking through the snow talking to damon on the phone, he tells him he doesn't believe he'll get there in time and be there for him. He didn't have to say that to use it as a tactic to bring out Damon's humanity because it was already there. It's not like Damon was in one of his moods where he pretends like he don't have much of it. I think Stefan deep down just automatically assumes the worst when it comes to Damon. that is why I love them both I also love Kai they are all such misunderstood people like klaus for example Mikael treated him so wrong , caused so much pain and like Klaus said to his mother "you are the author of everything that i am" it was all from their childhood and it built up this anger and rage inside of them to create this evil/bad person.
@@Jaybird0323 ah that's fair. Sorry if I misunderstood. Yes as vampires they are the same age. The books expressly explain the difference in their strength on diet. There isn't addiction/ripping. It's just that the more one lives as a creature of the night, the greater the power but more restrictive the weaknesses. Stefan's diet leaves him weak (by vampire standards, obv stronger than humans) but he has less problems with those Dracula-style weaknesses. Damon (and Katherine) spent centuries on human blood, so they had psychic powers, weather control, shape shifting, the works. But running water and sunlight (not counting rings) were greater concerns. The TV show I remember mentioning Stefan's diet when Damon would beat him, but after Stefan fell in with Klaus their strength seemed to equalize for the rest of the series (maybe because Damon fed less while with Elena).

"Damon wasn't there for him" Are we reallly gonna just forget the years Damon suffered at Augustine alone? And that anything bad Damon ever dealt with as a vampire wouldn't have even happened if Stefan hadn't turned him? They both did so many wrong things to each other and innocent people, but its so weird to me how people gloss over the bad things Stefan does as if he's never done anything wrong at all and Damon is just the devil incarnate. Like, lol, who suffered their father's abuse? Who had to SHARE the love of his life with Stefan, then think she died because Stefan was dumb and slipped up and got her exposed to their murderous father, then Stefan broke the promise for them to die together since Katherine was dead and instead turned and because he didn't wanna be alone he forced Damon to turn too, then spent years going back and forth with being a ripper and then not being one with Damon secretly helping him stay on track with Lexie but never getting credit for it because Stefan always thought he was getting better and staying "clean" on his own (or just with Lexie), then when Damon needed his brother Stefan was nowhere to be seen... everyone says Stefan's deaths don't count because he was a Ripper and couldn't control it... but Damon always controlled himself no problem and all he ever tried to do was get Stefan to figure out balance so he wouldn't be on his miserable bunny diet but also wouldn't be a dangerous Ripper. People call Damon selfish for popping back up because he misses his brother, but that's literally why Stefan forced Damon to turn so what does that make Stefan? Hella selfish, no? When they thought Klaus would die and they'd all die as a result of being his sire line, Elena went back to Stefan and her friends instead of Damon... so Damon would've died alone and he didn't even ask to be a vampire in the first place. Damon killed Bonnie's mom despite knowing it would make Elena hate him when STEFAN was the one who was supposed to do it according to the coin toss, but Damon made the sacrifice so Elena wouldn't hate Stefan. Pretty selfess to me (thank eVERYTHING Bonnie and him got to bond in the prison world and he had a legit friend). Damon agreed that if Elena chose Stefan, he'd leave town and let them be happy together (Stefan made the same promise). When Stefan went ripper with Klaus and Damon wanted to give up bECAUSE STEFAN KILLED HIS GIRLFRIEND TO FORCE HIM TO BACK OFF, EVEN THOUGH DAMON SPENT AGES SECRETLY LOOKING FOR STEFAN DESPITE GIVING ELENA THE IMPRESSION HE WASN'T, Elena thought Damon was being a jerk for giving up (which he didn't) and every time something like that happened (I can think of 3 times Damon lost someone he cared about and was seen as a monster for reacting badly when that's literally what they all do when they're in pain). Did we forget Enzo's death? Alaric? Bonnie? Ms Forbes? Rose? Andie? And like this video shows, their mom? Almost all those times Damon was expected to keep his cool over losing these people. Andie and Enzo were killed by Stefan and Katharine and their mom made it clear they loved Stefan more before they died.They BOTH killed each other's best friends and girlfriends at some point so ya'll gotta stop using that as proof that Damon sucks when Stefan did the same. Third yea Bonnie and Stefan did help change Damon into a better person, but Elena was the one who made Damon become “selfless”. If you remember when Elena said she first started having feelings for Damon was when he gave her the necklace Stefan gave her, even when Elena knew that Damon loved her. No one else made him become selfless. Damon at first thought Elena was Kathrine in season 1. But when Stefan started dating Elena purely on the fact that she looked like Kathrine, Damon pointed it out and Stefan got mad. And if you remember when Elena found out about Kathrine she was mad (as she should be) and he still had that picture of Kathrine. But you only mentioned that Damon loved Elena because she looked like Kathrine but so did Stefan. Also over time they both loved Elena for Elena, and you can tell in the last episode. Stefan kills himself and Kathrine to set Elena free and to get rid of Kathrine forever, but Damon was willing to sacrifice himself as well. Damon was a little possessive and overprotective but so was Stefan when it came to Damon. (Which is understandable from season 1) If you think about it, Damon lost everyone he loved. His mother died, his father turned against him, his own brother turned on him, Kathrine left him / chose Stefan. If you lost everyone like Damon has you would be a little overprotective and make sure that no one could hurt her. Also how does he treat her like a kid?? Sometimes he doesn’t let her do things but that’s him trying to protect her in his own way. Also I understand where you are coming from with the friend thing, Elena did put Stefan and Damon above her friends but you should also point out they all did that. When Bonnie and Enzo got together Bonnie put Enzo over Damon (Elena was dead/cursed) When Caroline got with Stefan she put him over everyone. They all put their boyfriends over their friends. damon has my heart. he was treated as the bad guy when he was just broken. he was betrayed by so many people that he loved, every time stefan make a mistake he was forgiven right after, but damon makes one mistake and he gets so much shit for it.
It was also because he had a lot of bad influences around him as well as the heavy abuse he faced by both of his parents in many styles and the traumas of going to war and seeing blood shed for the first time in a war he thought he was on the wrong side of just to try to get in his Fathers good graces until he was encouraged by a friend to say screw it and then the fact he was chasing after Katherine only to have Stefan chase after her shortly after and neither where with her at the time but Damon made a move first and then Stefan allowing Damon to think that he deliberately betrayed him by alerting there Father of Katherines Vampirism resulting in the town and council capturing her and then Stefan giving his Brother little choice but to complete the transition then while Damon was only feeding and killing for food only and was prudent, pragmatic, cautious, careful, and so on and had selective morals of who he fed on and killed for Stefan himself he was not a picky person he killed people not only for food but also for pleasure, fun, amusement, amazement, sport, and art and not only fed and killed but also tortured people in brutal ways and was sloppy, messy, dirty, muddy, dusty, sandy, bloody, gory, careless, and reckless he was the opposite of his Brother and Stefan had little to no selective morals either of who he fed and killed and tortured Damon at least considered babies, children, toddlers, adolescents, infants, and pregnant women off limits while every other Human when hungry only and nothing else where fair game
Poor Damon. He has been through so much. What's so messed up is that when Stefan does something bad, everyone forgives him quickly, but when Damon screws up, everyone starts to fight him. Damon is one of the most loving and emotional characters in this tv show. People don't realize it at first but that's because no one takes the time to realize how broken and hurt he is. What's so great about him is that he is protective of everyone close to him and he doesn't want to let them down. People don't take the time to realize that he isn't so bad, because once you get to know him, you'll know that he is so loving and caring and is always there for his loved ones and friends when they need him. He helped Stefan when Stefan let out the ripper and Damin helped it clean it up. When Elena's brother died, Damon was there for her. Damon is always there for his friends and family, and that is why he is one of the greatest tv show character ever. This hurts too much. When you think of all Damon went through, there is no way to hate him! The way he changed back into the man he used to be was a beautiful thing for me to watch, but painful. He accepted vulnerability again. Despite all the pain he knew would come, he changed to be better for those he loved

So did damon Stefan AND DAMON always saved each other. Everyone is arguing about who the better man is, but they're both broken inside, they've both done horrific things, but they both have a lot of good in them. In the end, what matters most is they have each other, and even though they both have given up on each other at one point, in the end they would die for each other.
Damon is honestly a relatable character like he has mummy/daddy issues he blokes out his humanity so he is not in pain and all he needed was to be loved by someone other than his brother .

Gosh, before the Stefan lovers start ranting on about how Damon was: "rude, selfish and did horrible stuff out of his own free will", he was only like that because of Stefan. Stefan, dont forget, was the one that forced him into becoming a Vampire. He embraced it but just out of hatred. Because, yet again, he is the one who is the reason that Damon is miserable and like this. He's the reason that Katherine, (his ex-lover), supposedly "died". Don't forget, it wasn't Damon who killed his father, even after the horrible things he had done to him and Stefan, Stefan did! I love Damon and Stefan, there amazing characters but Damon's storyline hurts the most. He wasn't born like this but the things that had hurt him made him what he is. What he is, isn't his fault.

See the thing is everyone sees damon as the bad guy because he was, in season 1 . He did like so many bad things . So it was hard to forgive him because they didn't know if there was that humanity inside him. And he doesn't show he's good because he doesn't want to live up to anyone's expectations. I believe Damon cares and when he loves, he loves harder than anyone. That’s one of the ways him and Elena are so similar. He’s been hurt, demeaned, degraded, tossed aside, and betrayed by those he loves over & over again. His entire life being just that, even through childhood. A seemingly never ending cycle. Never being allowed, or feeling allowed of being worthy of anything. That’s why he puts up a front, why he’s so closed off. Like he’s hurting others before they’re able to hurt him. That’s why Damon Salvatore, is and will forever be one of my favorite TV characters.

Vampires kill. I don't know how many times they've made it a point to say this in the series, but it's in their nature. They're predators. Humanity is a vampire's greatest weakness. Damon buried his for the sake of surviving as a vampire. Katherine said Stefan plays rougher, and he does. That's why he's the Ripper. Most of Damon's kills are impulsive because they're emotionally driven. His emotions heightened once he became a vampire, which makes him hard to deal with, but he's not as bad as Stefan. Kade and Klaus wanted Stefan for a reason. He's a monster's monster pet.

That’s the one thing I hate about Stefan. He’s always so quick to judge Damon and automatically think that his brother won’t be there for him, or that his brother doesn’t care. Damon has proven time and again that he does care, and that he’s almost always there to bail out Stefan’s ass one way or another. Whether Stefan physically sees it or not. I hate Damon’s line to Stefan when he says that up until he met Elena he wasn’t interested in doing the right thing for anyone including his brother. That was a total lie. Because throughout the show up til that moment, we’ve seen Damon in the past, sacrifice and do the right thing by Stefan over and over again. He may not be a perfect brother, but Damon has always been a good brother to Stefan, when he chooses to be. It’s too bad that Stefan never really bothered/cared to notice or realize just how much his brother did for him. He just writes him off and is always so quick to think the worst of him, even though Damon protects, defends, helps, and saves him from the shadows, silently, without Stefan ever even knowing a lot of the times.

@@JVC_00 I can see that. But I think it's also because Stefan a lot of the times truly believes that Damon won't come through for him or won't be there for him when it really counts. Perfect example, in this video where Stefan is walking through the snow talking to damon on the phone, he tells him he doesn't believe he'll get there in time and be there for him. He didn't have to say that to use it as a tactic to bring out Damon's humanity because it was already there. It's not like Damon was in one of his moods where he pretends like he don't have much of it. I think Stefan deep down just automatically assumes the worst when it comes to Damon. Because for the most part, Stefan has never really seen Damon be there for him when it mattered. He was always, at least in Stefans eyes, let down by his big brother. Not saying that he didn't believe Damon could be redeemed, but for the most part, Stefan was always so quick to believe in the bad in Damon vs. believe/want to believe in the good.

It's just that the more one lives as a creature of the night, the greater the power but more restrictive the weaknesses. Stefan's diet leaves him weak (by vampire standards, obv stronger than humans) but he has less problems with those Dracula-style weaknesses. Damon (and Katherine) spent centuries on human blood, so they had psychic powers, weather control, shape shifting, the works. But running water and sunlight (not counting rings) were greater concerns. The TV show I remember mentioning Stefan's diet when Damon would beat him, but after Stefan fell in with Klaus their strength seemed to equalize for the rest of the series (maybe because Damon fed less while with Elena).

People call Damon selfish for popping back up because he misses his brother, but that's literally why Stefan forced Damon to turn so what does that make Stefan? Hella selfish, no? When they thought Klaus would die and they'd all die as a result of being his sire line, Elena went back to Stefan and her friends instead of Damon... so Damon would've died alone and he didn't even ask to be a vampire in the first place. Damon killed Bonnie's mom despite knowing it would make Elena hate him when STEFAN was the one who was supposed to do it according to the coin toss, but Damon made the sacrifice so Elena wouldn't hate Stefan. Pretty selfess to me (thank eVERYTHING Bonnie and him got to bond in the prison world and he had a legit friend). Damon agreed that if Elena chose Stefan, he'd leave town and let them be happy together (Stefan made the same promise). When Stefan went ripper with Klaus and Damon wanted to give up bECAUSE STEFAN KILLED HIS GIRLFRIEND TO FORCE HIM TO BACK OFF, EVEN THOUGH DAMON SPENT AGES SECRETLY LOOKING FOR STEFAN DESPITE GIVING ELENA THE IMPRESSION HE WASN'T, Elena thought Damon was being a jerk for giving up (which he didn't) and every time something like that happened (I can think of 3 times Damon lost someone he cared about and was seen as a monster for reacting badly when that's literally what they all do when they're in pain). Did we forget Enzo's death? Alaric? Bonnie? Ms Forbes? Rose? Andie? And like this video shows, their mom? Almost all those times Damon was expected to keep his cool over losing these people. Andie and Enzo were killed by Stefan and Katharine and their mom made it clear they loved Stefan more before they died.They BOTH killed each other's best friends and girlfriends at some point so ya'll gotta stop using that as proof that Damon sucks when Stefan did the same. Idk, this fandom is just so weirdly biased.

RUTHLESS OG RUTHLESS OG First of all its Stefan. Second where did you get that Damon dated Elena’s mom...that’s not true. Third yea Bonnie and Stefan did help change Damon into a better person, but Elena was the one who made Damon become “selfless”. If you remember when Elena said she first started having feelings for Damon was when he gave her the necklace Stefan gave her, even when Elena knew that Damon loved her. No one else made him become selfless.
Damon at first thought Elena was Kathrine in season 1. But when Stefan started dating Elena purely on the fact that she looked like Kathrine, Damon pointed it out and Stefan got mad. And if you remember when Elena found out about Kathrine she was mad (as she should be) and he still had that picture of Kathrine. But you only mentioned that Damon loved Elena because she looked like Kathrine but so did Stefan. Also over time they both loved Elena for Elena, and you can tell in the last episode. Stefan kills himself and Kathrine to set Elena free and to get rid of Kathrine forever, but Damon was willing to sacrifice himself as well.
Damon was a little possessive and overprotective but so was Stefan when it came to Damon. (Which is understandable from season 1) If you think about it, Damon lost everyone he loved. His mother died, his father turned against him, his own brother turned on him, Kathrine left him / chose Stefan. If you lost everyone like Damon has you would be a little overprotective and make sure that no one could hurt her. Also how does he treat her like a kid?? Sometimes he doesn’t let her do things but that’s him trying to protect her in his own way.
Also I understand where you are coming from with the friend thing, Elena did put Stefan and Damon above her friends but you should also point out they all did that. When Bonnie and Enzo got together Bonnie put Enzo over Damon (Elena was dead/cursed) When Caroline got with Stefan she put him over everyone. They all put their boyfriends over their friends. So you can’t just point out what Elena did you also have to point out that everyone did the same thing.

damon has my heart. he was treated as the bad guy when he was just broken. he was betrayed by so many people that he loved, every time stefan make a mistake he was forgiven right after, but damon makes one mistake and he gets so much shit for it.
It was also because he had a lot of bad influences around him as well as the heavy abuse he faced by both of his parents in many styles and the traumas of going to war and seeing blood shed for the first time in a war he thought he was on the wrong side of just to try to get in his Fathers good graces until he was encouraged by a friend to say screw it and then the fact he was chasing after Katherine only to have Stefan chase after her shortly after and neither where with her at the time but Damon made a move first and then Stefan allowing Damon to think that he deliberately betrayed him by alerting there Father of Katherines Vampirism resulting in the town and council capturing her and then Stefan giving his Brother little choice but to complete the transition then while Damon was only feeding and killing for food only and was prudent, pragmatic, cautious, careful, and so on and had selective morals of who he fed on and killed for Stefan himself he was not a picky person he killed people not only for food but also for pleasure, fun, amusement, amazement, sport, and art and not only fed and killed but also tortured people in brutal ways and was sloppy, messy, dirty, muddy, dusty, sandy, bloody, gory, careless, and reckless he was the opposite of his Brother and Stefan had little to no selective morals either of who he fed and killed and tortured Damon at least considered babies, children, toddlers, adolescents, infants, and pregnant women off limits while every other Human when hungry only and nothing else where fair game

Poor Damon. He has been through so much. What's so messed up is that when Stefan does something bad, everyone forgives him quickly, but when Damon screws up, everyone starts to fight him. Damon is one of the most loving and emotional characters in this tv show. People don't realize it at first but that's because no one takes the time to realize how broken and hurt he is. What's so great about him is that he is protective of everyone close to him and he doesn't want to let them down. People don't take the time to realize that he isn't so bad, because once you get to know him, you'll know that he is so loving and caring and is always there for his loved ones and friends when they need him. He helped Stefan when Stefan let out the ripper and Damin helped it clean it up. When Elena's brother died, Damon was there for her. Damon is always there for his friends and family, and that is why he is one of the greatest tv show character ever. Damon shouldn't be recognized as a monster or something horrible, but as someone who cares and stands up for the ones he loves,

Yeah people forget that Damon was protecting Stefan from there parents abuse in multiple ways and that great abuse that Damon faced that Stefan did not played a part in Damon having Sociopathic Tendencies later on in Human life and being in a war he felt he was on the wrong side of just to try to get in his Fathers good graces for a while and him having blood on his hands also played a part of him accepting Katherine even if she was a Vampire that killed innocent people he was able to eventually look passed it because his obsession with her was stronger then most other things the reason Stefan was not as accepting about Katherine's darker parts like his Brother was was because he did not face nearly the same abuse by there parents that his Brother did nor did he face traumas of war as a Human so he did not have time to be as use to darker parts of people as much

Gosh, before the Stefan lovers start ranting on about how Damon was: "rude, selfish and did horrible stuff out of his own free will", he was only like that because of Stefan. Stefan, dont forget, was the one that forced him into becoming a Vampire. He embraced it but just out of hatred. Because, yet again, he is the one who is the reason that Damon is miserable and like this. He's the reason that Katherine, (his ex-lover), supposedly "died". Don't forget, it wasn't Damon who killed his father, even after the horrible things he had done to him and Stefan, Stefan did! I love Damon and Stefan, there amazing characters but Damon's storyline hurts the most. He wasn't born like this but the things that had hurt him made him what he is. What he is, isn't his fault.

I don’t understand ,all characters in tvd have done bad things and they were always forgiven , so why Damon doesn’t deserve forgiveness and they say he’s a “bad guy “ but he’s not he was just heartbroken and I think he’s one of the best characters in tvd .

See the thing is everyone sees damon as the bad guy because he was, in season 1 . He did like so many bad things . So it was hard to forgive him because they didn't know if there was that humanity inside him. And he doesn't show he's good because he doesn't want to live up to anyone's expectations. It seems like he was the bad guy in season 1,but later it just turns out he was misunderstood

i think damon deserves so much better, damon did everything to protect elena and stefan and alaric and more, and in the end nobody was there for him, he cared so much about people but a lot of people hated him because of how he acts and what he does.
I’m so sad. I miss this show.

I believe Damon cares and when he loves, he loves harder than anyone. That’s one of the ways him and Elena are so similar.
He’s been hurt, demeaned, degraded, tossed aside, and betrayed by those he loves over & over again. His entire life being just that, even through childhood.
A seemingly never ending cycle.
Never being allowed, or feeling allowed of being worthy of anything.
That’s why he puts up a front, why he’s so closed off. Like he’s hurting others before they’re able to hurt him.
That’s why Damon Salvatore, is and will forever be one of my favorite TV characters.

To be honest his life isn’t worth more, it’s just the fact that if you look at it Stefen has done it to like when he became the ripper! Also Damon does it because I’d he feeds on animals it will show that he’s trying to be a good guy which he doesn’t want to be because if he does everyone will expect him to be!

Vampires kill. I don't know how many times they've made it a point to say this in the series, but it's in their nature. They're predators. Humanity is a vampire's greatest weakness. Damon buried his for the sake of surviving as a vampire. Katherine said Stefan plays rougher, and he does. That's why he's the Ripper. Most of Damon's kills are impulsive because they're emotionally driven. His emotions heightened once he became a vampire, which makes him hard to deal with, but he's not as bad as Stefan. Kade and Klaus wanted Stefan for a reason. He's a monster's monster pet.
