Another thing about putting up fur is it makes you a truly well rounded trapper. It’s an imperative part of fully being a trapper. Personally, I’m more impressed with a pile of well put up fur than double that number green and floppy at the sale.
Another informative video Dale! I’m sorry but I had to laugh when you discovered your bevel was upside down. I was wondering from when you started fleshing why your knife was riding up because it couldn’t have got that dull since you did the otter video. Hopefully people watching understood that there is a difference between the right side and the wrong side of the blade!
Seldom Fales I don't blame you I'd have laughed too 😂. It's hard to get used to a new knife style or it is for me. Hopefully by end of the season I will have it figured out.
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 It looks like a Post knife. I have 2 and absolutely love’em! I wrapped the handles with foam tubing on the one knife I do most of the pushing with because I was getting blisters from the sharp corners on the handles.
Jacob you can purchase them at Cumberland's Northwest Trapper Supply or call or text me @ 319-217-0655. Thank you for watching and for your interest in Billingsley Brand Lures. We appreciate you
How many raccoons can an experienced person like yourself or Mike skin and scrap in an hour? How long will it take a beginner? I understand speed will come with time. Thank you for the video Dale you always have great info to share.
In my prime I could skin on in a minute thirty to a minute fifty Mike. I could flesh twenty an hour. Now not so much. Chronic tennis elbow in my left one and arthritis in both shoulders. I'm slowing down. I just ain't what I once was
Thanks Dale. Never seen a tail done that way. Can't wait to try it this year. Also Trappers, make sure that beam is clean when adjusting the pelt. I've mashed fat into the fur before.
Excellent video Thanks Again Dale

@youtube.com-SeldomFales yes it's a post knife Seldom Fales. Just gonna take some getting used to it.
So once they are fleshed and stretched they are “shelf stable” and can just sit until you’re ready to sell? No freezing required ?
That's exactly right Rapp. You're good till bug season again
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 thanks Dale. How long should I let them sit on a stretching board until I take them off?
@richhunter515 alot depends on how much heat and air movement you have in the shed?? 3-5 days is usually enough.
How's the best way to sharpen a fleshing knife
I'll post a video of that here real soon for you Jonathan. Thank you

Ugh I'm trying to train myself on these new style knives Jim. Having a heck of a time. Old habits die hard.
I love your presentation, I just need to get me a better KNIFE, just using a big butcher's knife right now
Yes Tom a regular scraping knife will make all the difference for you
