I use pretty much everything you talked about with top cover but haven't ever made the waxed dirt or sand tge wax for that little to pricey for me. Congrats on the 2K subs well deserved.
Absolutely amazing info. I was having trouble with my wax sand sealing over & not letting he trap operate properly. We had a few days of 94-99 degrees weather
Another damn good video. I used to let 'em stay in the ground no matter what knowing they'd eventually dry out. It worked but the buyer wouldn't pay me a cent for misses or toe pads. Some long time ago a string of very wet winters and tired of frozen, gummy, soaked out sets and hauling enough dry dirt to stomp in hundreds of 3N's and Newhouses forced me to hang up the traps and switch to 5/64. Thank you
Thanks for sharing the pros and cons of all these bedding options. I've listened to others who only want to talk about the one or the other that they prefer....thats fine but, I like hearing about the pros and cons. Congratulations on reaching 2000 subscribers.
Good you made 2000. For what I had used and. Did not care for is salt . Because of the deer dig them up besides what you said. Then urea. It left too much of a smell after it got wet. I now use peat moss. I do like you said put a lite layer over it. It works the best for me . If it is not dry dirt over it ,I use a this layer of dry grass I break up with my hands from the area. Coal shale is not around my area. Being in northeast Iowa. Thanks for being up front on the uses of being material.
Good topic Dale. I'm a peat moss user and I've used buckwheat hulls too. I did try a mix of both and it did work pretty well until I ran out of hulls and now it's peat moss only. Congrats on 2K for you Buddy, that's awesome.
Great info Dale! I mostly use all waxed dirt but like you said its a lot of work and expensive! Thank you for sharing and Good luck with everything my friend!
👍 Congrats on 2k Dale you deserve it..! Your spot on about how corrosive salt is on a trap,, if you don’t power wash @ the end of the season you’ll dang wish ya did.. Another great one keep it up, GOD BLESS BROTHA
Good stuff Dale👍. I am sold on wax sand. I hear stories of refusals by coyotes but I haven’t noticed any difference since I started using it. I haven’t tried coal shale yet though.
Thanks for the information Dale! I’m always looking to experiment in the trapping world and luckily I live and trap next to a local coal mine, I’ve never used coal shale but before this video was over I was on the phone lining some up to use this season…can’t thank you enough my friend!!
No they won't dig it Ben. If they stopped to dog at every pile they come in contact with on their nightly travels they'd never get any where pal. I appreciate you watching these videos. Thank you
@Billingsley Brand trapping Lures what about if i used dirt from a hog or goat barn? We are the only people with hogs and goats for quite a ways so do you think that would spark some interest.
I personally don't like hog dust and the reason being is when it rains that dust becomes a sloppy soupy mess. The goat barn dirt should be good. Remember though we're not trying to get the trap itself to be the attractor. We're trying take it weather proff that's all. Once you make the trap the attraction then you'll have digging problems. Does that make sense Ben?
No it shouldn't. Again they've smelled different types of manure around. Those coyotes close to you have traveled aways to get there. They've come in contact with sheep goats horses ect ect ect.
Wax dirt is probably my favorite but an old timer I know just started using urea. Get a big bag from FS or whatever farm seed/chemical company you have and mix it with the dirt. Won’t freeze and won’t corrode your traps.
bud hall used a red color blow sand with regular cattle salt no idozied ive seen it freeze up with winter rain it would thaw out furbuyer trapper watached him dig out of side hill coal shale is good guy from eastern montana showed me

Good video but on what you said about the dry barn dirt having manure in it wouldn't the coyote smell the manure and dig at it?
No they won't dig it Ben. If they stopped to dog at every pile they come in contact with on their nightly travels they'd never get any where pal. I appreciate you watching these videos. Thank you

@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 yep I was just wondering if the un familiar manure would make the trap an attraction
No it shouldn't. Again they've smelled different types of manure around. Those coyotes close to you have traveled aways to get there. They've come in contact with sheep goats horses ect ect ect.
