Corsair is a great vendor when you think about how many different product lines they have and the level of quality you find within each line. He's also used CoolerMaster on some videos, teaming a CM case with CM Power Supply, and CM Seidon water cooling. Now that Thermaltake has a nice(tasteful & good features) series of cases in the Urban S31 and S71, we can see some of that. Their PSUs are good as is their Water 2.0 Extreme closed loop water cooling unit.
Bought this monitor yesterday (pre-orderded at NCIX). Running a 7970 Core edition, bios flashed to Ghz Edition. I think if I drop BF3 down from Ultra to High and kill AA, I'll still be able to keep framerate in the 50s on most maps. I've been waiting for years for a monitor like this. Thanks Asus now hurry up and get this out to retailers!!!
If you´re still looking. There are programs where you can actually overclock the monitor to 120hz. If you do that it might effect the lifespan of the monitor
JJ love the videos you do. One question about the PB278Q, does it retain the picture by picture and picture in picture functionality it had at CES 2012 when it was known as the VA278Q? I've been following this for some time and both asus videos with the monitor do not show off said functionality so i'm curious if it made the final product. I'm a multi-tasker and would love to be able to use something like that for multiple PCs or other sources thanks for your time
Either that, or support bezel correction so there isn't such a difference from display to display. I know AMD had that feature at one point in time where it would actually drop pixels from the multi-monitor display and artificially increase the resolution to compensate for the bezel of the monitors
I'm tied with those too. Dell U2713HM is a good monitor, so is PB278Q. But I rather take Dell since the stand is a lot sturdier, it has got better colors (even after calibration) and also, there's a USB3.0 hub.
Thank you JJ for the review. Is the Displayport thumb press is facing to or away from the monitor? If you need to disconnect the Displayport cable from the monitor, do you need to use a flat head screwdriver?
I realize this video is about the monitor (which looks awesome btw) but its also the only one I have found gaming at 7680x1440 using quad sli gtx 690's. Do the graphics cards encounter VRAM issues at that high a resolution? Is there noticeable microstuttering? And were the games at their max settings? Thanks
Asus, I've seen a video about the PB278Q, and it seemed like there is a really disturbing motion blur. I'm thinking about buying a WQHD for gaming with a HD 7970 Ghz and for some videoeditting. So is there a noticible motion blur or not? Will I notice it when playing BF3 and CoD?
The AX850 has a Platinum Certification, which means that it is able to utilize its full capacity without a power loss, that way it is able to power two 690. Normal PSU's are not that power efficient.
Don't mean to put ASUS down! Most ASUS products are excellent. We are moving into a touchscreen era! Where are your touchscreen monitors? Phones are touchscreen, Tablets are touchscreen, etc etc! OK not everyone wants a touchscreen monitor given older & other Operating systems but where are your touchscreen monitors? They would go great with Windows 8 :)
Pretty sure you have to use HDMI 1.4 connectors and cables for that kind of bandwidth, have to use the Dual Link DVI port to do this also. Or just use DisplayPort1.2 =)
Wow as a console gamer I can say I hope the next gen ps4 or beyond will be able to give visuals like this. I'm an console only gamer but PCs damn Sony, damn catch up some how
Thank you for the reply. I have a GTX 570 and it DOES support 2560x1440 resolution. However, when using the HDMI cable included with the monitor, the max resolution I can use in Windows and games is 1920x1080. Does the included HDMI cord not support 1.4?
Unrelated question, but after seeing the ROG 7970 Matrix I was wondering can we expect to see a GTX 680 Matrix? I currently I have two GTX 680 Direct CU IIs but man what I wouldn't wanna give for a matrix version.
On the monitors the pixels near the boarder jump from each side of the ends of the monitor. Since there is a distance between the monitors screens from each other because of the boarders (an inch or two in between) can you make it so the screen still continues for a few inches in the middle of the boarders so the screen has a nice transition when playing games? e.g. make hidden pixels between the boarders instead of jumping the image over the other side of the monitors boarder.
No your eyes won't feel tired at 60 Hz. At least not when using a slower IPS or PLS Panel which you need for the best image quality. There is no flickering if you know what i mean.
You won't see a difference through a UA-cam video. Videos are usually running at 24FPS or somewhere around there. But, the difference is fluidity. Things are much smoother in a 120Hz monitor, than a 60Hz monitor.
For me, yes. because normal display doesn't need high refresh rate, there are some non-3D display use 75Hz as default refresh rate now, because your eyes will feel tired when you gazing a 60Hz display for long time.
Hi JJ, i have this setup (gtx 690x2 and the same 3 monitors). how did u set up the cables for the monitors going to the gxt 690 on top to get the 4 way sli? i looked it up on nvidia website and it said to use 2 of the 3 dvi's and the mini display port. my problem is, to my understanding mini display port doesnt support res over 1920x1080. so how did u set up that last monitor????? PLZ HELP Thank You
A single stock clocked 690 has a 300 watt TDP. So that's already 600 watts. Plus CPU, Memory, storage, and everything else in there. You're getting up a little close to 850....
PIP solutions I've seen do not allow digital/digital, only digital/analog. Definitely would be nice if this was an exception, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Just a curiosity. WIth such a large display for your game, don't you have to be stepping back and play from a certain distance in order to see all 3 screens. In doing so, i'm assuming you loose a little bit of the details on the main screen. It's a nice set up though.
asusrog i am debating on weather to buy the pb278q or VG278HE..this will be for gaming i want to know dose the higher resolution out way the refresh rate or vice versa i play all types of games feedback would be highly appreciated
Would be nice if we started seeing Radeons in these things rather than the usual geforce. Also some idea of how big you are so some of us weirdos can gauge the size impression we would expect from the monitor. Always nice to see things beside something familiar even if you could get the dimensions themselves.
JJ i just got the saber tooth z77 if anything goes wrong with it do i need the receipt to return it cause i don't have mine it was a gift but i have all the papers inside the box. Im waiting for my i7 3770k before i install it..
How are the monitors hooked up to the GPU's? Are all three on one GPU (which I would imagine is the case to get them to work in unison) and the second GPU is SLI'd (meaning its a slave to the first and thus helping it output)? Or are two monitors on one and the third on the other GPU?
Why don't you guys go for the 32" - 42" inch with these great resolutions.. You do realise there're huge enthusiasts who would snatch them up very quickly! You guys at Asus need to make this happen! PLEASE!
I have a ASUS MB ASUS optical drive and a ASUS VE278Q monitor now and have always used ASUS MB's .. My brother is building a ASUS rig like mine with a I7 3960x 2 GTX 680's in SLI .. And plenty of corsair parts also .. His last part he needs to buy is a monitor both his sons have the same one I do but he is looking for a monitor with high screen Rez like this ! Please tell me it's 120 Hz if it is , it's sold !!!
One NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 450 supports 4x PB278Q for office work? can i have an NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 450 to output and a NVIDIA QUADRO K5000 or GTX680 to work? Thank you!
hey i had build a pc like a month ago and out of nowhere im getting this bright green color when my pc boots up like it shows the motherboard logo and shows windows 7 logo but its all green dont know whats causing it i have the ASUS Sabertooth 990fx with G.Skill 2x4 gigs Ram 1866Mhz FX-6100 CPU and Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2gb OC Edition and for power supply i got the Corsair CX750 dont know if its a graphics driver problem or if it is a main power connection i tried to reconnect the power
I have two PC. New = Intel i7 2700k, Gskill 16GB RAM, MSI NGTX 560 ti graphic card. Old = AMD X2 4600, Kingston 2 GB RAM, & XFX 6600GT graphic card. I am planning to buy this monitor ASUS PB278Q. Just want to know, can i use this single monitor for these two PC. Is this monitor support PIP(picture in picture) & PBP.(picture by picture). And any idea, when this monitor available in India? Last but not the least. Is there any problem if i use 560 GTX with this resolution 2560x1440.
Yep 2560x1440 is 16:9. Hit your start menu and type "calc" and hit enter. Now you have a calculator, so you don't have to use your brain! Oh and yes the game is really super high resolution. Most game engine's FOV will cause that wide/fisheye effect you are noticing. Some games do not. There are also patches and fixes for most games to eliminate that if you don't like it. Check out the widescreen gaming site. WSGF DOT ORG
Each card has a TDP of only 300W. Assuming he's not crazy overclocking the CPU or the cards themselves the 850W is more than capable of handling it. Typically, a quality PSUs can handle 10% to 15% more than what it's rated for. IMO, you want to size a PSU to run between 50% and 60% load as efficiency is optimum in that load percentage range. But, improved efficiency only equates to a few dollars IRL energy cost so it will take a while to offset the increased PSU cost using that method.
Thank you JJ! I hope the next video comes with a new (and more pleasure and comfortable to listen) intro sound!
This guy, JJ, is always a good host and a good guest on other channels. Keep up the good work. (Yes, I know that this video is from 2012).
Thanks for the video JJ, setup looks killer. I may look into getting at least one of these monitors.

Would still love to see a portrait 4320x2560 demonstration, now that it's a few weeks later. ;)
Great job JJ, love these segments!
If you´re still looking.
There are programs where you can actually overclock the monitor to 120hz.
If you do that it might effect the lifespan of the monitor
Thanks for the feedback. Is there any chance of more games/benchmarks on the same setup? :P Cheers
Just bought one of those monitors, I love it. Even better than my 27 inch Apple LED Cinema display.
JJ love the videos you do. One question about the PB278Q, does it retain the picture by picture and picture in picture functionality it had at CES 2012 when it was known as the VA278Q? @Alex C. Hall PLS you mean? PLS is still the latest most panel type and feature higher color res!
I look forwards to future ASUS products :)
I'm tied with those too. Dell U2713HM is a good monitor, so is PB278Q. But I rather take Dell since the stand is a lot sturdier, it has got better colors (even after calibration) and also, there's a USB3.0 hub.
Thank for you very much for the reply I guess I'll hold on to these cards till I hear something.
Nice monitor will be good for my next computer build at Christmas. :)
Thank you JJ for the review. Is the Displayport thumb press is facing to or away from the monitor? If you need to disconnect the Displayport cable from the monitor, do you need to use a flat head screwdriver?

I have them with 780 superclocked version from evga and work smooth . Rarely works a bit slower when i play arma 2 and arma 3 .
Whats the cost of the setup?I'm interested in getting one.Great video.
Please reply.
JJ, when will we see a video about the ASUS MATRIX HD 7970 ?
Man I wish you guys made a 2ms display with component input. I would have already bought one.
Will a video with Elric be out soon? I hope so :3
Thanks, I enjoyed watching this.
Pretty sure you have to use HDMI 1.4 connectors and cables for that kind of bandwidth, have to use the Dual Link DVI port to do this also. Or just use DisplayPort1.2 =)
I think it´s gonna be my next monitor, but i just want to know.. Is there any ghosting, inputlag or/and blacklight bleedin? =)
Wow as a console gamer I can say I hope the next gen ps4 or beyond will be able to give visuals like this. I'm an console only gamer but PCs damn Sony, damn catch up some how

they should offer bezeless 32"inch 2k and 4k monitors. Now that would be one hell of an experience!

JJ, could you set 3 of them verticle and do a demo of 4320x2560 if supported?
I hope see some of them on this chanel.
AWESOME,nice rig

JJ can you convince me why i should get the PB278Q instead U2711? i will buy one right away if you can convince me. thanks
maybe its just me, but when it comes to performance on monitors and gpu setups, i would like to see an active display of frames per second
Thanks for reply. But what about the POP & PIP. & can i use both of my PC at once.
When will we see a panel with resolution/image quality like this at 120Hz?
Frist off, this looked very amazing with these three monitors if I had the money to upgrade all my compnents including my graphics card.
PIP solutions I've seen do not allow digital/digital, only digital/analog. Definitely would be nice if this was an exception, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
outstanding !!! ....thanks to you

odd question but where can i get that background? im about to have a similar setup
does it come with the hdmi 1.4 cable? and do you know when the asus pa249q comes out?
JJ i just got the saber tooth z77 if anything goes wrong with it do i need the receipt to return it cause i don't have mine it was a gift but i have all the papers inside the box. Im waiting for my i7 3770k before i install it..
very interested in this panel for high resolution gaming is the ghosting or lag issues using this monitor? they give me headaches =/
When will this be available in the US I know it is available in Britain?
2 690's running off an AX850? Crazy. Simply crazy.
I personally like the u2713hm better since it doesn't use PWM for its backlight..otherwise they're virtually the same
How are the monitors hooked up to the GPU's? Are all three on one GPU (which I would imagine is the case to get them to work in unison) and the second GPU is SLI'd (meaning its a slave to the first and thus helping it output)? Or are two monitors on one and the third on the other GPU?
the middle monitor should be higher than the others so that everything could be parallel
Why don't you guys go for the 32" - 42" inch with these great resolutions.. You do realise there're huge enthusiasts who would snatch them up very quickly! You guys at Asus need to make this happen! PLEASE!
if this awsome monitor have a super slim bezel like samsung's new tvs a 3 monitor uniform resoultion would be flawless
The monitor looks great. If someone knows could they tell me the overall height of the monitor in portrait mode?
I have a ASUS MB ASUS optical drive and a ASUS VE278Q monitor now and have always used ASUS MB's .. My brother is building a ASUS rig like mine with a I7 3960x 2 GTX 680's in SLI .. Yeah I was thinking the same, would he need a 1000W PSU ? How is it even possible with 850?
JJ... Can the monitor display a billion colors?
hey i had build a pc like a month ago and out of nowhere im getting this bright green color when my pc boots up like it shows the motherboard logo and shows windows 7 logo but its all green dont know whats causing it i have the ASUS Sabertooth 990fx with G.Skill 2x4 gigs Ram 1866Mhz FX-6100 CPU and Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2gb OC Edition and for power supply i got the Corsair CX750 dont know if its a graphics driver problem or if it is a main power connection i tried to reconnect the power
Probably just something they set up real quick.
Is this Asus's highest end moniyor at this resolution? Thanks
Wow..great power.
Technically yes but be prepared to drop the settings. 3 1440p monitors at 60 fps requires 3-4 680 SLI to be smooth
I have two PC.
New = Intel i7 2700k, Gskill 16GB RAM, MSI NGTX 560 ti graphic card.
Old = AMD X2 4600, Kingston 2 GB RAM, & XFX 6600GT graphic card.

what is better for gaming the asus pb278q or the dell utrasharp 2560x1440?
What is best for gaming 125 Hz or high resolution??. Im playing at 60Hz now and i think its fine but i never tryed 125 HZ :)
do you guys have a damn partnership with Corsair
It's possible, but I wouldn't want to even add a hard drive... This is absolutely pushing the limits on that supply.
w8 ........ the corsair ax 850w can run gtx 690 sli ?
Yep 2560x1440 is 16:9. Hit your start menu and type "calc" and hit enter. Now you have a calculator, so you don't have to use your brain!

AG on U3011 and U2713hm, isn't the same. The U2713HM has got a has better one than the old 30 inch.
How are you running two 690s on an 850W PSU?
AOC makes a super thin bezel IPS panel, but it's only 1800p.
Hi, just wondering, now that Asus has replaced the IPS panel with a AHVA type how will this affect the performance of this monitor?
Should i go for the Pb278qr or the Pb287q for gaming?
JJ dude, between you and me... Smoke a huge bong just before your next presentation, it'll be awesome !
Hi..how good is the PB278Q on Xbox360 and PS3?
Kepler architecture is power friendly
you need dual gtx 690 in order to get 60 fps with this monitor on games like BF3 , Guild wars 2 and borderlands with physx high
What's the Input Lag of the monitor?
hey jj asus will launch gtx 770 oc 4gb edition??? pls
Each card has a TDP of only 300W. Assuming he's not crazy overclocking the CPU or the cards themselves the 850W is more than capable of handling it. why not? 690 has 300 watt tdp, x2 + 130 watt 3960x. A psu like a Corsair 1200i would be overkill
why do the two GTX 690s look different?
what wallpaper is that
yes.. 1 for movies tv and another one for work and use all 3 for games :D
He said at 3:32, didn't catch the model though.
It's out. motherboardsorg has a short hands-on video.
