Love the new video editing, looks great and adds a really subtle professional touch to the video. Good work to Diesel and ,i guess Linus, for choosing him. Great work all round.
I bought this monitor before ever knowing about Linus/NCIX tech tips review videos. I had a 1080p TN panel prior and will never look back. Colors are amazing and I have yet to see any motion blur playing lots of games. My eyes are not nearly as sensitive as others tho. My two 770's push the resolution quite nicely and keep the fps in the high 40s to mid 50s depending on the game. Love this monitor!
someone pointed out by looking at the user manual posted online by asus that it says 6-bit, however someone else said it might be typo because this monitor uses a samsung panel, and samsung has not realesed a 6-bit panel
The graphics in this video were pretty good IMO, I liked how the text sprung out from the side of the monitor as you spoke, versus a column with all the tidbits coming down. Both would've worked, but I thought this was a nicer touch. Nice job, and nice job Diesel, yes? Its NOT LIKE WE KNOW WHO'S DOING THE CAMMING EVERY TIME D:
The problem is there isn't much to say about them. My video will basically go "well here's some mediocre image quality and hmmm... not many adjustments you can make to the ergonomics... thanks for watching NCIX Tech Tips!
If you have an EVGA card, you can get the frequency up via the EVGA software. You could go above 75hz but you start to see artifacts when you approach 79-80.
PB278QR owner here , feel free to ask questions... I went from a 21 inch 1080p lg monitor to this , and it's amazing. Colors are perfect , stand is strong and versatile , good menus and decent for gaming. I would recommend this monitor if you want to go to 1440p or need more space (Cad software , video editing or programming). Otherwise , if it's only for casual purpose or gaming, stick with a 1080p.
I just created the custom refresh rate through the Nvidia Control Panel, and then booted up the games. One where I need to change settings is with BF3. I had to select the 75Hz setting. Not sure what your problem could be.
Yes.I want those too. But any way there is the YAMAKASI catleap Q270. They are 2560x1440 resolution with the possibility to overclock refresh rate to upto 120hz. But from what i see , its a hit or a miss with possible warranty issues.
I would love it if you guys did a review of the Overlord Tempest panel. I've seen some on UA-cam already, but the reviews you put out are my favorite on here!
Dual-Link DVI only just has enough bandwidth to do 1080p 120hz. If you increase the resolution to 1440p or 1600p (almost double the number of pixels), there is no-where near enough bandwidth to do so.
Dual link DVI is only barely able to display 2560x1600 at 60 hz. Displayport can maybe reach 120hz at thoose resolutions, but then we run in to the problem where there is no panel that can display 2560x1600 at 120hz.
he did a review of this, it is good but it has a very glossy screen,.Not an issue if you can control the lighting in the room you are using it. the 850D also comes with 3* USB3 slots on the monitor :D
I have no idea but it seems to get harder for bigger sizes because of the information that can be put though a duel DVI. Bigger the Res the more information and the 60 more hz is double the information, i am no engineer but that is my guess.
I can't decide whether I want this rich color monitor with massive resolution, 60hz and tiny bit of ghosting, or the other Asus monitor with =120hz but only had a 1080 resolution.
Just bought this monitor on an Amazon price dip. Can't wait until it arrives. Although, I'm going to have to wait until my Surface 3 arrives later this month to test the full resolution.
Not sure I'd use this for gaming (I PC game on a Home Theater setup so I'm 5+ feet away), but for photo or video editing this would be amazing. For $700 that's relatively inexpensive for a pro monitor. I don't know if I'd buy one, but it's good to see them pushing higher-end panels than just the small, cheap ones you find in a store or online commonly.
They're different panels. The Asus is a PLS panel, and the Dell is a different type of IPS panel. Both have LED backlighting. What will you use it for?
hey dude I was in the exact same situation and ended up buying the LG however am returning it for the Asus, will let you know if I was right to do so or not lol
Samsungs S27B970D is a glass panel witch is reflective and glossy. However if there is not much Light in the room the glass panel does make the colours alot more vibrant, not to mention Samsungs glass panel is 10 bit colour an the panel has been professionally Calobirated out of the box.
Oh yeah. DisplayPort 1.2 has just enough bandwidth for it. HDMI, Dual-link DVI, and Displayport 1.1- all cap out at 1920x1200 @120Hz though. The reason why no monitors are around right now is because even though DP 1.2 can handle the bandwidth, graphics cards only had DP 1.1 until the Geforce 600 series and Radeon 7000 series which was fairly recent. We may see monitors like that pop up in the coming years.
4:05 I don't understand. I'm running a 32" 1366x768 monitor and I don't have any issues fitting 4 different windows on screen at the same time. How is a 27" 2560x1440 monitor an improvement in screen real estate?
I just watched a video from Linus with that one. :D I don't know yet actually I've never seen that one in person. The only 29" Screen I saw was a Dell 29" which prad did a test on a little earlier and I didn't like it at all. It didn't really had typical ghosting but you could see smearing all over the place when moving windows or scrolling text that. Though it wasn't really visible on the video clip. I still look out for the 29" from AOC and now this one too. Hopefully I will be surprised.
Received mine from ocuk, has uneven back light bleeding, even with brightness set to minimum, this ruins the deep blacks this monitor is supposed to display when playing games. Great colours, and non reflective. I recommend if you can get hold of one from a flawless batch.
Yeah I know about all that, I'm not entirely knowledgeable on the panel types down to the last detail...(I know somewhat about the color differences and all but no pure hands on experience) But I do know stability and quality can drop when overclocking monitors. I'd love to be able to do stereoscopic 3D without sacrificing resolution... Though I would think such massive resolution at true 3D(being 120hz) would call on some serious graphics power.
the price of it is same as u2711 ( which is already 2 years old model ) in where live. but spec wise i think they are about the same. which one should i get?
I'm sure current graphics cards could handle that kind of resolution and refresh... But i guess you are right about the kind of data that would have to be pushed through the cables...Not sure if there are any cables possible as of now that can push data like that... Maybe like 5 display ports for 1 monitor lol.. And the monitor would need high quality parts to do all that.. Not to mention the first of any tech always costs way more than it should.. But screens and monitors are cheap to produce.
it depends on the use and parts, i had monitors fail on customer in less than a year, and i have a customer that is still runing his Pentium CPU with 8Megs of RAM and 4x CD reader, and he uses it for personel checking clock at his hotel. i know that premium products cost more, but there is some point that you get diminish Price-Value rate, and IMHO this is one of those cases.
Linus i don´t get it. in your video "Can Linus See More than 60Hz???" you say that you cant go back after playing on a 120hz monitor, but now you say you prefer the "ASUS PB278Q"? So what is better? :)
It really depends on how far away you plant to sit. I you are sitting at a desk with the screen a foot away then it will not look to great. If you are a little farther away it will look better. However, running a game at a non native resolution makes it look like crap so using a 1440p monitor might not look any better.
i have the iiyama XB2776QS-B1. so far i had no issue's with gaming. its a very responsive monitor. can't say the same about the Asus model, because i never tested it.
Just bought this for £485.30 in the u.k (including P+P). Cant wait until it comes. Was deciding between this and the Dell U2713HM, the cheapest i could fine the dell was £490 (including P+P). According to tft central this monitor has an average input lag of 16.6 ms which seems to be marginally better than the dell. hopefully no dead pixels.
Yeah, well it's also cool to see some of that high-end/good stuff, but it would also just be nice to know what the best low or mid range monitor is for an example. For ppl that maybe dont have 700 dollars to just use whenever u want :)
I'm an idiot, the cables CAN handle that much data, my entire previous post was wrong, depending on what PCB's are in the monitor, you can overclock many of the Korean monitors (Catleap, Shimian etc) from 60Hz to 130Hz by tweaking the GPU and using custom drivers. However 120Hz monitors, as Linus said in one of his videos are usually TN panels, meaning the colour reproduction isn't as good as IPS or PLS, however some of the korean monitors are IPS and can do 120Hz+ I believe.
It is VERY clear that there is a new guy editing video, and I am liking it a LOT, thumbs up
Love the editing in this episode. It's clean and simple, and that effect where the text flies from behind the monitor is very cool. Thumps up.
Love the new annotations on the video, this stuff just keeps getting better and better. Great job guys.
Love the new video editing, looks great and adds a really subtle professional touch to the video. Good work to Diesel and ,i guess Linus, for choosing him. Great work all round.
Good job on the editing and floating text. Nice one Diesel!
guys the editing on this video is amazing. keep it up
Great work Diesel! The Videoquality is mutch better now!

Played any games with? Any feedback?
It's good , but i would expect a 1080p 144hz to be better than this. I only play for fun , so for me it's ok.
Do you have any ghosting in fps games? And is it 75hz at 1440p? Can you change from 75 to 60?
Theres no ghosting.
Dont know about the 75hz part.
HexoFire thank you

I so badly want a pivoting monitor... ever since seeing 3dgameman's setup. I just love the way web pages look on it.
i got one coming in tomorrow... Will let you know what i think soon after!
Very impressed with the motion tracking
The editing is awesome! Keep Diesel!
Would love to see a black screen to check if there's backlight bleed
Not at the current moment with DVI, it doesn't have enough bandwidth. Display Port might do it though, but barely.
I would love it if you guys did a review of the Overlord Tempest panel. I've seen some on UA-cam already, but the reviews you put out are my favorite on here!

Hey Linus, do you think you could make a video detailing the difference between LCD panel types?
I'm a light gamer, so that slight motion blur is a non issue. This monitor looks like it would really perform well for photo and video editing.
Man this looks really sleek. Can you try a triple screen setup with like a triple crossfire setup??
None of the connector cables currently used have enough bandwidth for that last time I checked.
Dual link DVI is only barely able to display 2560x1600 at 60 hz. Displayport can maybe reach 120hz at thoose resolutions, but then we run in to the problem where there is no panel that can display 2560x1600 at 120hz.
Wow NCIX, very good review! Good enthusiasm and very informative! Keep up the good work.
Cleanest and most professional video yet.
Thanks for your very informative review! I have been shopping for a 27" 1440 monitor for awhile, and this may well be the one.
he did a review of this, it is good but it has a very glossy screen,.Not an issue if you can control the lighting in the room you are using it. the 850D also comes with 3* USB3 slots on the monitor :D
The Editing is really good!
@PresentKA But those don't feature 8billion to 1 color resolution...
Looks nice, question is Linus would you take this over the Samsung LS27A850 as the price difference is negligible? Thanks for the first look.
I have no idea but it seems to get harder for bigger sizes because of the information that can be put though a duel DVI. Bigger the Res the more information and the 60 more hz is double the information, i am no engineer but that is my guess.
I'll agree with that. I'm on a 1920x1200 resolution 24" LCD and the extra vertical space is as you say 'REALLY nice'
I believe this allows for a VESA wall mount. So you should be able to.
I can't decide whether I want this rich color monitor with massive resolution, 60hz and tiny bit of ghosting, or the other Asus monitor with =120hz but only had a 1080 resolution.
awesome video editing...love all the captions :)
Just bought this monitor on an Amazon price dip. Can't wait until it arrives. Although, I'm going to have to wait until my Surface 3 arrives later this month to test the full resolution.
would love to see a comparison, up close, between the best hz 1080p and this - to decide.
Great review Linus
Comparing this one to the Dell U2711 would be interesting ...
Not sure I'd use this for gaming (I PC game on a Home Theater setup so I'm 5+ feet away), but for photo or video editing this would be amazing. For $700 that's relatively inexpensive for a pro monitor.

You can defiantly tell diesel, is doing the editing. I'm liking it a lot
Looks good. Is the 23inch version any different other than the size? Like quality or whatever?
I wonder if the monitor supports audio and USB over DisplayPort.
That's not what the forums I visited say.. There are even gaming videos on yt that show gtx 580 running at this resolution..
hey dude I was in the exact same situation and ended up buying the LG however am returning it for the Asus, will let you know if I was right to do so or not lol

What about the new ViewSonic VP2770-LED ?
5ms GTG same resolution but has an IPS panel with 1.07 billion colors.
Would be great to compare this to to the new one PB278QR.
im buying one, anything i should know about it until i buy?
i have 3 of the dell version of these.. takes up so much desk space, and its very hard to place the speakers effectively.
4:05 I don't understand. I'm running a 32" 1366x768 monitor and I don't have any issues fitting 4 different windows on screen at the same time. How is a 27" 2560x1440 monitor an improvement in screen real estate?
Which one is better? The pb278q or the Apple Cinema display
Linus what would you suggest to run two of these monitor comfortably?
I just watched a video from Linus with that one. :D
I don't know yet actually I've never seen that one in person. The only 29" Screen I saw was a Dell 29" which prad did a test on a little earlier and I didn't like it at all. I still look out for the 29" from AOC and now this one too. Hopefully I will be surprised.
The motion blur setting in games and the motion blur caused by an lcd with high ms are not related.
Wow this video has really nice editing in it.
Which would you say is better: The Asus PB278Q or the Dell Ultrasharp U2713HM?
Anybody has an idea when OLED monitors are coming? Because that stuff is both lightning fast (
what type of keyboard and mouse is he using on the desk? they look cool
According to TFT Central it is no longer PLS but AHVA since 2014.
I like AH-VA, they have some of the purest whites.
wow i went to another window and then came back to this video at like 3:37 and I seriously thought you were outside....THAT IS A GREAT MONITOR
Impressive editing, very professionnal.
the intern did a good job on the editing
But people have gotten 100+hz to work on the Yamakasi Catleap 2b which has a 2560x1440 resolution?
You recommended using DVI or Display Port, but what about HDMI?
lots of complaints about horrible backlight bleeding. Its also PLS, a newer technology. While this isn't bad, its too new to really trust well.
So which one do you prefer this monitor or the Samsung S27B970D?
Are you going to review the LG 29'' 29EA93-P IPS ? Have no idea which monitor to buy. This one or Lg. :P
the price of it is same as u2711 ( which is already 2 years old model ) in where live. but spec wise i think they are about the same. which one should i get?
yeah but how long will that last compared to a monitor...
On the store page it is listed as 1560 x 1440 ?????
ASUS PB278Q 27IN LED Backlit LCD Monitor Black 1560X1440 80M:1 DVI HDMI DisplayPort
Should I get this ASUS PB278Q or the Dell U2713HM?
Good work with the video! Looks professional!
And epic Asus screen!!
Well, the Yamakasi Catleap 1440p ISP monitors can sell as little as $380, but they are prone to defects.
I'm sure current graphics cards could handle that kind of resolution and refresh... But i guess you are right about the kind of data that would have to be pushed through the cables...Not sure if there are any cables possible as of now that can push data like that... But screens and monitors are cheap to produce.
i like the editing its sudle but it highlights important things, good job
They use a A+ grade Dell panel, so both will look same picture wise, but if you do go Dell get the U2713H not HM
it depends on the use and parts, i had monitors fail on customer in less than a year, and i have a customer that is still runing his Pentium CPU with 8Megs of RAM and 4x CD reader, and he uses it for personel checking clock at his hotel.
i know that premium products cost more, but there is some point that you get diminish Price-Value rate, and IMHO this is one of those cases.
Possibly the bandwidth limitation over DVI-D?
Linus i don´t get it. in your video "Can Linus See More than 60Hz???" you say that you cant go back after playing on a 120hz monitor, but now you say you prefer the "ASUS PB278Q"? So what is better? :)
:59 "Comes with all of the included cables" just... how? Is it possible for it to not come with included cables?
It really depends on how far away you plant to sit. I you are sitting at a desk with the screen a foot away then it will not look to great. If you are a little farther away it will look better. However, running a game at a non native resolution makes it look like crap so using a 1440p monitor might not look any better.
80,000,000 to 1?
What is the true black to white and not dynamic contrast ratio?
wait thats what i have is it good or bad. ps probs a dumb question
It says 700 dollars on the ncix page from the link in the description..?
i have the iiyama XB2776QS-B1. so far i had no issue's with gaming. its a very responsive monitor. can't say the same about the Asus model, because i never tested it.
Can you still dominate with counter strike if you use this monitor?
Just bought this for £485.30 in the u.k (including P+P). Cant wait until it comes. Was deciding between this and the Dell U2713HM, the cheapest i could fine the dell was £490 (including P+P). According to tft central this monitor has an average input lag of 16.6 ms which seems to be marginally better than the dell. hopefully no dead pixels.
where? i tried finding someone selling it eu, but no one has it
WHich would you prefer? price is no object.
Yeah, well it's also cool to see some of that high-end/good stuff, but it would also just be nice to know what the best low or mid range monitor is for an example. For ppl that maybe dont have 700 dollars to just use whenever u want :)
