I've watched you and I got to commend you you check your parts before you install them and I hate to say it just because you buy a new or remanufactured part don't mean it's good it's sad when people put stuff out there on the market and it's no good from the get go and you go through all the trouble of installing it hey thank you very much for your videos I love them bye
The only trouble watching Ray work is that i now only want Ray to work on my car 😂 looked at shipping costs from the UK to America it’s a lot, a hell of a lot,, specially now.
Oh this brings back overheating memories of a Ram 3500 with a Cummins in it...it had been to three shops for an overheating issue, it had been flushed...new thermostat etc. etc. Well, I get my hands on it, it had a nasty oil leak goin on! The rad was just coated in an oily dirty grime that was insanely thick...so I sent the truck off to the car wash next door, with a proper collection sump and said...shampoo the rad LOTS...comes back an hour later and the rad was clean and wouldn't ya know it...it didn't overheat anymore! Customer was rather pissed at the prior shops lemme tell ya.
46 yrs ago started learning car repairs from best mechanic in the city (uncle of a then friend) first lesson was clean the engine before starting work, 2nd keep workshop floor & bench clean & tidy as possible always!, it really helps the whole process, First thing I thought of as he named parts previously replaced was were probably not authentic ones if he didn't spot any fault(s) others missed it would be that fan clutch. Nice *spotting* & then getting that *rad washed* down!!
one of the more interesting overheat diagnostics I came across involved a water pump that had cavitated the impeller to a nub. no outward leakage, just no blades to move water.
"Always check your parts". No truer words have been spoken. I can't count on 4 hands how many times I've gotten something hosed out of the box. "Just because it's new, doesn't mean it works". Words to live by.
I learned the lesson of "new" parts the day I had a new (installed that day) chineesium ignition control module die on me on the highway. The real hard part now days is finding parts that aren't made from chineesium
To be fair I have had chinese cheap parts far outlast OEM stuff and I had a brand new 7 series which didnt have its freaking fuel tank fitted properly. These days Im happy to roll the dice as opposed to fitting super inflated OEM cost parts.
I solve my ignition control module problems by going to the junkyard and getting an AC Delco for 10 bucks. On the 3.8 L engine, it would almost pay to carry a spare in the trunk of your car since it takes about eight minutes to change one out with nothing but the 5.5 mm socket or whatever the inch equivalent is. New one is $163 bucks and that’s it Rock Auto . A lot of times I’ll use junkyard parts and buy two. Pick ‘N Pulls in the Pacific NW are the greatest thing since sliced bread and canned beer.
Something I encountered way back in my early mechanic high school days and had to explain to people many times over the years is that there is such a thing as ' brand new junk '. Especially rebuilt, remanufactured items. Fuel pumps that split a diaphragm after 2 days, starters that they forgot a bushing on one end etc.
It's all in the spelling, sometime ' new ' is spelled with a ' J '. Quite actually, more often when troubleshooting a problem, the ' shiny ' newish - looking thing is the top suspect.
They build vehicles to break now days. All the old ones never broke so no one ever had to really buy a new vehicle. Now days the littlest thing can blow up a vehicle. My old Mazda pick up is still new with 200k miles.. but I take care of my vehicles religiously
Nice catch. I have an old Ranger that we used to use as a delivery truck and it kept on overheating, the fan clutch was fine and what we found was that the area between the radiator and the condenser was full of debris you couldn't see it when you look down between them but the fins clogged up. After after that no more problems. 15 years later and 350,000 miles it still runs pretty good. It's a little down on power compared to 15 years ago but it still rarely breaks and doesn't leave me walking.
Well, when you’re the best, people will seek you out. They know you’re a honest mechanic that WILL find out what’s wrong and if possible, fix it. THATS A GOOD THING! Roger in Pierre South Dakota
@@kenuber4766 Not sure, the estimate on the population hasn’t come out yet. They do it to calculate how many hunting licenses they will allow to be sold. Don’t hunt myself, but quite a few hunters come up here in the fall. All the land used for hunting is either owned by farmers or by people who charge plenty to let you hunt. I’m sure you already knew that.
I once had an over heating issue due to the bottom radiator hose having no coil inside. It would suck shut restricting the coolant. Also they might have sold the customer a defective return part, I've known it to happen.
Yeah would not surprise me, think I had that happen when I bought a new drop mitre saw once, it was meant to be new in the box and I think it was a mixed up faulty return one.
As an electrician with 30 years experience I have come across brand new junk several times. From light fixtures to panel breakers. Happens all the time.👍
Gonzalo on youtube there is a video made in the 70' called "shake hands with danger" I have the original "VHS" tape of that, I used it for teaching safety in the work place. Check it out.
I had a running hot issue with my motorcycle for the past 2 summers. It has a 180 thermostat, but the electric fan wouldn't come on til 212 degrees. I am now able to write to the ECU and changed the fan engagement temp to 180 degrees. The bike runs cool now and has never went into the 200's all summer. Air flow matters a lot...
Yup..I worked for a guy that was all about ripping people off.i found out by finding a receipt one day..after quitting and going to the city and raising hell..He is no longer in business..Ripping people off that u know can't afford it boils my blood..I've been thinking of maybe when I turn 70 just going on a rampage of revenge
Nice catch on the new fan clutch. One that gave me fits on a commuter vehicle of mine turned out to be a worn out radiator cap. Nothing I fixed or replaced took care of the problem until I overheard someone commenting about wanting a higher pressure cap. The light bulb FINALLY lit up. New cap - no more problems.
I got one of those Hayden "heavy duty" fan clutches for my 2005 Explorer with over 200k miles on it. Man, even in the 110 degree heat of the middle of summer here in the desert, my engine always stays normal temp and my A/C actually blows colder now. So sometimes you may have a worn fan clutch and not even know it. Maybe your engine isn't overheating or anything, but your A/C might not be blowing as cold as you like. So yeah check your fan clutch before you spend a bunch of money on an A/C repair!
A real easy way to tell is if your car maintains temp while driving >40ish compared to sitting still. Part of why I will replace mechanical fans with electrical fans, 2 of them if I can find ones the perfect size to cover the radiator. And wire them separate. Then if one dies at least I have something. Also far easier to troubleshoot.
Good find!! Buddy of mine bought a nice HHR running for $350. Because the owner said he couldn't deal with the over heating issues it had for over a year anymore. Luckily he didn't destroy it, he always stopped before it it really overheated. On the way back we noticed it would overheat when stopped but was too cold when moving. By the end of the day we found the electric fan spun, just not good enough! And that the safety thermostat was locked open. A junk yard fan and a new thermostat and she was all better. Been fine for almost a year now!
Always recheck the parts. Had a bad starter. I got a remanufactured one. It did the same thing. After the third one, the store manager gave me a new with a lifetime warranty for no extra charge. That was 6 years ago and still working fine.
I always remember working on my uncles bad starter as a teen and discovering the remanufacturers forgot to put the bushing on the brush end and it tore it all up. Gotta check that reman stuff
You know; you can use a hairdryer or heatshrink heat gun on the bimetal heat coil on the front of the fan clutch hub to check that it engages prior to instalation. Also do this with the engine off to see that it locks. Without throwing a hammer in the works. 😉🙂
"Chinesium"..when all is said and done the only thing more expensive than a good quality part is a cheap one. See if there is a firmware update for the GoPro
Impressed by Ray's knowledge and his honesty. Others should copy his example. Great videos, I enjoy them all even though I hardly know how to open the hood on my car.
I’ve had a bad fan clutch out of the box 4 times in my life. It’s a serious problem these days with junk parts made of chineseium. Thank you Ray ! For doing it right.
i have fitted 3 or 4 of them do nothing replacement thermo fan hubs, cheap ones don't work, i also had a guy who had his fanhub welded solid by a guy who said he could fix it on a v12 bmw 750IL, it exploded after the car kicked down a gear and took out the bonnet, both air boxes, undertray and various hoses :) he really fixed that good.
The way the fan clutch was free wheeling is exactly how my oem ford works. Its locked at cold start, unlocks shortly after and will be free until the temp raises. No temp issues.
Ya .it's like people and my car wolnt start..well it's out of gas..hello..if I have kept count of how many cheap cars I've bought cuz people don't pay attention or just don't give a fuk
Yea man, I removed the radiator cap in my overheated ‘78 Camaro a long time ago and I got hot coolant all over my arm causing 1st and second degree burns. I believe the year was ‘89. I had to go to the hospital because I had a very large burn blister that needed medical attention. I learned my lesson the HARD way! I healed up nicely, though.
My mom used to have a 71 Plymouth valiant when I was about 12. She came in and was getting ready for work and told me to add some water to the radiator. I sprayed it down for about 20 minutes and thought I would be OK to open it up. I was wrong. Burnt my arm up to just above my elbow. My sister's mother in law cut up some aloe leaves and packed the strips around it and bandaged it up. It still hurt a little, but the blisters and all of the redness were gone in the morning. Since then I have always kept an aloe plant in my house even to this day even 36 years later.
I sell auto parts everyday and my company started getting "Chinese" made new starters and alternators in. Every once in a while there is a dud but it's got a life time warranty so we just say bring it in and we will replace it.
Got a reminder of this just last week. I changed out my coil packs as things were starting to feel a little lumpy with the originals, which are now over 16 years old. I figured I’d do it right, not cheap out, and do a straight swap with another set of Densos. The new ones went in fine, the test drive was fine, and the first actual shortish drive (about 6 miles) showed no trouble. Parked the car in the morning, went out to go run an errand late in the afternoon, and the car quickly felt like crap. Idle started out a little rough, and by the time I made it a quarter mile down the road, it was misfiring like crazy. I limped back home with the check engine light flashing at me. Luckily I had’t tossed the old coils yet. I figured out which one was causing problems, and it was completely dead - unplugging it made no difference to how the engine was running at all. Popped an old coil back in, and it settled right down again. I’ve since gotten a replacement for the replacement and everything’s fine again, but my first reaction was definitely more thinking what the hell did I do wrong, rather than questioning a new brand-name part.
I can back this I bought a Dorman TPS it worked for one month then my engine had idle issues and surging problems and random stalls threw that junk sensor away spent little more on an OEM part works fantastic now
When I saw you reaching for that radiator cap with your warning, it reminded me of something that happened to my dad. Back when service stations provided service (not junk food and squishy frozen drinks), my father worked as a Gas Station Attendant. A woman pulled up to the station, said her car had been overheating. My dad told her he would need to get a extension tool to open the radiator cap or have to wait till it cooled down. Well this being California she was in a hurry and besides she only drove it two blocks. He grabbed the cap with a rag, it gushed scolding hot coolant all over his chest and sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
I took one of those to the face once, lucked out and only had second degree to the forehead. Slammed the eyes shut quick enough to have the "raccoon mask" face with white rings around the eyes and bright red-pink cheeks and forehead.
I admit I've done it as well. Only I didn't have gloves or a rag and a very loose grip on it(I was replacing it) and it launched up and hit the hood of my dodge and put a small dent in the hood and scared me
When I didn’t know much about cars my older sister asked me to open the washer cap and I started opening the coolant cap and I started hearing pressure my sister was like no no not that one and I stoped in time before anything bad happened.

In my 5 plus decades here, I've encountered many new parts that were defective. I've also had suspect parts tested that checked out okay, but were not! Trouble shooting can be so much fun!
Computer parts can be the same. My first graphics card upgrade involved a return because its integrated fan didn't work. I've also had multiple Chinesium CPU fans that were trash, either right out of the box or after a short lifespan.
I am hooked. I can't stop watching and learning. As a stand up comic, I love your sense of humor when doing your work. You seem to love your job and are a fantastic showman/teacher for the novice. Thank you for everything you do
The GoPro Hero9 can take memory cards up to 256GB, but 128GB cards work very well for normal usage. The bitrate of even the 5k recording mode in the Hero 9 is only up to 100Mbps which is 12.5MB/s so you don't actually need an ultra-fast micro sd memory card, just one that comes rated with a minimum of a U3 spec. 40 years ago I repaired cars..A friend started selling auto parts..He was the 1st to sell Chinese Made Auto parts..I remember him selling a alternator which was bad out of the box.. Did 5 different ones till Finally I bought one from a "real" auto parts store..It worked..That was my last thing I purchased..Later I garage owner bought that batch and was filing down the brushes because they were over sized.. China stuff has come a long way but still 100%... Luv UR ❤ 💖 Channel..Brings back good and bad memories.. Just Sayin
HI RAY< like your vids. MIGHT i suggest the string trick for home mechanics. You simply take a piece of WEAK string and tie it to a fan blade then tie it off to some part of the fender that's solid,THEN start the motor and wait ti see if it breaks the string when it's gets hot enough to lock up.!!! HINT>>DON'T tie it to the AIR CONDITIONING HOSE,haha.I know it's right in line with the fan there ,BUT JUST DON'T.ASK me how i learned that trick, haha
My 2004 and my 2003 Cummins had those vistronic fan clutches that chopped the wires EVERY TIME. I finally bought a hub that let me put a manual fan clutch on my trucks and I love it
You probably won't see this...I have a GoPro Hero9Black, and I had similar problems. And yes, pulling the battery out is the only trick to slap it back to reality. Its an overheating problem. Im sure you must have heard those three beeps before it shuts down (you're in Florida!) It does that to me at times, recording long segments in the winter in NY! What I was told by Gopro is to either lower resolution (I record at 2.7k, so I can still have the 264 codec, not the 265 thats on 4k resolution and the slow mo 120fps, I cant even play them on my PC when editing). Option two, which is what I do, is stop the recording, around 5m, and start up again. Unless you do a fast forward, you don't need that long of a shot. Not ideal, and very annoying, but it did keep the camera from black screening on me. I still get it shutting down from heat (I also have the media pack for external sound and that miniflash, which is bright enough for most shots...but then again, I have that Milwaukee cube light too). Hope it helps. I am not all that happy with the Gopro 9...I have a 3 thats my dashcam and that thing took A LOT of beatings and still works, and even it still sometiems won't start up, needing the battery yoinked out and put back in for it to do its job.
Liked and Positive comment for the UA-cam algorithm. Hi Ray, it is great to hear that your reputation has spread and you are now the go to automotive diagnostician, and automotive rocket surgeon. 🤜🤛 and I hope you have a great day.
In my youth, I had no idea about the dangers of popping off the radiator cap when a vehicle was overheating. I got VERY lucky. The cap and the hot water shot past my head by an inch or less. Never did that again.
That fan shroud does come apart into two pieces, and that electric fan is for the A/C condenser. Really happy it's not a hydraulically controled fan, like on the V10 equipped Rams
Yes, you can stop a fan clutch with your hand when it is cold. You have to get the clutch hot and it stiffens up. I used to stop them all the time when I worked at a dealership. Sometumes they're stiff, you rev the engine and it let's go when it's cold. Get it hot and it gets really loud when revved up. This one was not getting stiff when it heated up.
Nice. I appreciate the time you take diagnosing and expaining what is what. 😂 sometimes we need to enter the danger zone cautiously. I have been to many shops and most of them want to rip people off. Just 2 days ago i brought my car for a suspension checkup; i knew beforehand the rear shocks are busted, the inner tie rod has a torn boot, one stabilizer link has a torn boot, i wanted my cv axles serviced because i can see the brittleness on the boots and i know all 4 brakes need some work but they still have life left in them. The guy checking, took 1 hour and 30 minutes without removing the skid plate which you need to do to have a clear few of the rack end. Now this is what he came up with: 2 new rack end bushings (there is actually nothing wrong with them) 2 lower arm bushings(these still have life in them and aren't torn) 2 sway bar bushing(these are still good) Brake pads need to be changed and brake rotors need to be serviced and 2 stabilizer links front (finally this good diagnosis). He never checked any of the shocks, he never noticed the plastic bag i wraped around the inner tie rod boot. And didn't even notice the cv boots looking wet or having cracks in them 🙈😂. I am not about to be ripped off. And so almost every shop i have visited makes up stories, not knowing that i do my homework and most of the time i fix my cars by myself
Had that happen with many parts plenty of times. Or…. They go bad after like 6 months and by then… it’s a no go on warranty. Sucks, but happens. Also… still bugs the crap out of me that you use an air hammer on a clutch fan…. But you are the pro and it does work! Great work!
There are a great many parts that have become difficult to acquire that have decent quality without buying OEM (and sometimes, even OEM parts are sketchy). Fan clutches seem to be particularly difficult for xing ping wing to manufacture. You can take 3 brand new units out of their boxes, and feel 3 different levels of resistance when turning them by hand.
Good call. I would have also checked the radiator for obstructions, inside and out, while I was at it. 40 year retired tech here. I like watching your videos. Been there done that.
Hi Ray, just wanted to throw my two cents in and recommend the "Samsung Evo Plus Micro SD" cards, they have extremely high "write" capabilities that work amazing for GoPro's and dash cams. My dash cam had the exact same symptoms as your GoPro had, and i just simply switched to this micro SD card at a recommendation from a friend and boom, problem solved. Hope this helps.
I second this. Raspberry Pi 4+ (4GB RAM version). Terrible performance with my old 32GB (Class 10) SanDisk SD card. Picked up a 256GB Samsung Evo and never looked back, the read/write performance is enough to where Raspbian doesn't lag spike when opening folders and applications.
I have had a somewhat similar experience with my (already gone) drone camera. The original memory one was too small, so I bought a much bigger one. It did not even start to work. What goes??? Turned out the drone manufacturer provided an answer that I had not understood. Related to various markings on the card. Of corse the markings on my card told that it was slower than what the drone manufacturer specified. I was sent to a fact finding tour of those markings and then buying another new card once I knew what exactly I needed. "SDHC" was not a speed indicator. Well the new one worked fine, until I got disgusted about the changing FAA regulations and discarded the whole drone.
Anybody else have a friend or relative who thought they could just weld a clutch fan so that it wouldn't release? 😂 My two favorite things to hear from somebody who's done that are hey it's really loud! And man the mileage on the vehicle has really gone down. 😂
No, but my dad swore up and down that the fan in my f150 couldn't fail by seizing, because "they only ever fail by slipping". Replaced mine and he was like "why's your truck so much quieter than mine all of a sudden?" turns out his might as well have been solid, too. 😹
mine failed that way. Imagine hearing me going down the road on an old 80's diesel car, and each downshift is doublecluched. You could hear me coming. :D
Regarding your GoPro, the SD card MUST be one listed on gopros site as approved SanDisk extreme is on there......it shoots in high resolution. even a SanDisk ultra can't handle how fast it writes data and how high the video quality is...must be the extreme or another on listed as approved for GoPro 9 on gopros site The SanDisk extremes actually have a little GoPro logo on them
I had an old Buick Le Sabre years ago a 1972 model with the famous GM 350 Cu in motor. It was running hot and I couldn't find the issue and a guy I worked with told me to loosen a screw at the distributor and turn it real slow a little at a time. I did and whoosh it started sucking the water down in the radiator and no more problems!
This is how i imagine every American Car is. Prety much every LIght on the Dashboard on that could safe your ass in an Emergancy Situration..... but please only Fix my Overheating issue :D
We put a brand new radiator in an Army 2.5 ton truck one time and it overheated right away. I saw there was no flow of the water and we pulled it back out to inspect it closer. Found a plug shoved deep into the lower tube. When they had packed the part up for shipping they had put to plugs in the tube by mistake. From then on we looked real close at the radiators we installed. Lesson learned.
As always great job and of course System of a Down in the background was appropriate “most glorious day of my life” as word spreads your the greatest👍🏻
Very interesting. I am going to say that the electric fan may have an issue as well. I have an 03 that I pulled the mechanical fan off of unless I am REALLY putting a load on and the electric fan works fine to keep it cool unless I am idling in like 100 degrees plus and then it climbs a little but not BAD. Going down the road is absolutely no issue. If they couldn't get around town or get on the highway with just the electric there is probably more to look at. Personally my 4.7 has a blown head gasket. My wife passed away and I was not in my right mind and headed out towards Tuscon to visit some family and try to get my head straight. Going over the mountain from White Sands NM to Las Cruces it overheated as the coolant was low. The bolts stretched and that was that. Still runs and drives but have to be careful with it. Eventually I will have the time, energy and funding to make the repair. Can't get rid of it because it was one of the few things my wife and I purchased together and there is no way I can give it up.
Good call on the fan clutch...I've seen a lot of those in the past, as well as the 'ever-problematic' calcium build-up in the radiator that no one ever catches...water is hot, seems to be flowing, no back gases, good thermostat...why does it keep overheating? Quick temp check of the radiator shows that half the cores are plugged up (with calcium...from tap water)...used to be, you could take it to a radiator shop and have the cores punched...now, it's 'remove-and-replace'...had a 4-core radiator once, that weighed a good 45-lbs...3/4 of the cores were SOLID BLOCKED...even the radiator shop asked, 'this car was basically running on no radiator, you realize that?'....yep...bad water, will get you every time.
Ray you do a great job/and you are humble to admit when your wrong/ most mechanic would never admit if they are wrong and making up some other reason why they can’t fix it /hats off to you my friend keep up with your impeccable skills
I had weird issue too in past..in my troubleshooting I stopped having issue after going to a good brand class10 storage. You saying you changed out sim card and it helped a bit, made me think of the class10 card, which is supposed to be a big speed difference over budget cards.
Since I assume new=good, they're normally the second item I look at. I'd have checked the radiator for clogs (dirt buildup on the fins) and the electric fan for operation (since it should move enough air without the clutch fan).
I like how the truck has every dash warning light illuminated and the customer is content with just putting a piece of paper over them! Good thing you filmed it from the beginning. That would have been the next thing. "all these lights came on after you touched it"
I use to be a truck mechanic. One time I found an overheating problem caused by inside of the suction hose coming lose and restricting coolant flow. Another time I found that the overheating problem was not caused by the engine overheating but by a crack in the temperature sender's bulb which caused it to read coolant pressure rather than coolant temperature.

Oh this brings back overheating memories of a Ram 3500 with a Cummins in it...it had been to three shops for an overheating issue, it had been flushed...new thermostat etc. etc. Well, I get my hands on it, it had a nasty oil leak goin on! you can definitely tell it's spinning a lot faster on the new fan clutch
I need a mechanic like you in my area.
We use a real thick newspaper for stopping centrifugal fan clutches when I do it, less chance of shattering the plastic fan housing
The clutch will still be locked up after you turn the engine off. They engage when they're warm/hot.

First mechanic that actually goes through symptoms to diagnosis and how to repair, absolutely of great help for me.
These days Im happy to roll the dice as opposed to fitting super inflated OEM cost parts.
you gotta have that Japannesium, USAlloy or Germanium.
Had a chineesium clutch do the same thing. Many 4 letter words.
Ngk has a brand that make ignition control module for Ford Duraspark type systems that in made in Japan. They probably have them for other makes too
I solve my ignition control module problems by going to the junkyard and getting an AC Delco for 10 bucks.
Something I encountered way back in my early mechanic high school days and had to explain to people many times over the years is that there is such a thing as
' brand new junk '.
Especially rebuilt, remanufactured items.
Fuel pumps that split a diaphragm after 2 days, starters that they forgot a bushing on one end etc.
A mentor in the tv engineering world used the term “infant mortality”. Some modern folks might get offended by that.
It's all in the spelling, sometime ' new ' is spelled with a ' J '.
Quite actually, more often when troubleshooting a problem, the ' shiny ' newish - looking thing is the top suspect.
@@michaelszczys8316 Like as in *jnew?* 🤷♂️😀
"can't trust new things" is exactly what I'm teaching my kids.... "new" means nothing
My dad would say "new & improved means it costs twice as much"
Never Ever Works, the meaning of new
Especially if it comes from NAPA!!
New absolutely means something, it means it's not covered in old oil and dirt
Roger, is the Pheasant hunting go to be any good this year?
@@kenuber4766 Not sure, the estimate on the population hasn’t come out yet. They do it to calculate how many hunting licenses they will allow to be sold. Don’t hunt myself, but quite a few hunters come up here in the fall. All the land used for hunting is either owned by farmers or by people who charge plenty to let you hunt. I’m sure you already knew that.

Good, only a Sith would do that.
I once had an over heating issue due to the bottom radiator hose having no coil inside. It would suck shut restricting the coolant. Also they might have sold the customer a defective return part, I've known it to happen.
That silly spring- thing inside that hose is important.
Yeah would not surprise me, think I had that happen when I bought a new drop mitre saw once, it was meant to be new in the box and I think it was a mixed up faulty return one.
I have heard of that issue.
You have to see that one to believe it and I've seen it a few times.
As an electrician with 30 years experience I have come across brand new junk several times.
From light fixtures to panel breakers.

Lisle makes a great wrench set for fan clutches. It attaches to your air hammer so you don't have to use a chisel bit.
So does snap on Mac matco (bluepoint snap one off brand)
Then buy one for him and send it. It will make you feel good and him good.
I made one out of an old leaf spring
yup i have the lisle one also!!i bought from the cornwell guy and it works great!!

To have a good reputation is ALWAYS a plus. Your only as good as your work performance. Stay safe and be well. Have a great day Ray!

Now he just needs to air-up the tires, check the ABS system. the stability control and brake-assist systems and his vehicle is usable again!
I wish I had your brain Ray! You figure things out that most people don't think of! Another great video! Thanks 👍
This is an awesome channel! Ray , you are a great Technician and a man with strong values. Much respect from the Great State of TEXAS.
You know; you can use a hairdryer or heatshrink heat gun on the bimetal heat coil on the front of the fan clutch hub to check that it engages prior to instalation. Also do this with the engine off to see that it locks. Without throwing a hammer in the works.

The way the fan clutch was free wheeling is exactly how my oem ford works. Its locked at cold start, unlocks shortly after and will be free until the temp raises. No temp issues.
mine would lock at idle too
I don’t think that a good analysis was done. It is normal to slip until the clutch gets to a certain temperature.
Some clutches release the faster you go and grab below 700 rpm. Maybe to increase hp a little bit. That seems reasonable .
@@miketyler2513 mine would release after cold start and stay released unless needed, alternating between on & off based on temp & engine speed

My Ranger fan shroud is now two-piece, as it should be. Because of my Sawzall. (Screwed back together securely.)
That's fine for the parts house, but for the mechanic who has to do the job twice (or more) its unforgivable.
@@carwashadamcooper1538 we do offer labor claims but I agree it is a hassle to redo a job. Time is money.
Let me guess. Dorman part! The only thing from them I haven't had trouble with is the stainless steel brake lines for Chevy trucks.
i even had those stainless lines go bad from the chinese wings company
I can back this I bought a Dorman TPS it worked for one month then my engine had idle issues and surging problems and random stalls threw that junk sensor away spent little more on an OEM part works fantastic now
3 valve covers later on a 1.4 liter turbo chevy cruz.
Heck yeah , you're the man Ray. Really enjoy how you truly test before replacing parts.
Darwin award
I admit I've done it as well. Only I didn't have gloves or a rag and a very loose grip on it(I was replacing it) and it launched up and hit the hood of my dodge and put a small dent in the hood and scared me
When I didn’t know much about cars my older sister asked me to open the washer cap and I started opening the coolant cap and I started hearing pressure my sister was like no no not that one and I stoped in time before anything bad happened.
Two things. Large towel and thick gloves. Hasn’t fail yet, But then again, after about 50 years of wrenching, you occasionally pick up a thing or two

What are the best memory cards for GoPro Hero 9?
Best Overall. SanDisk 128GB Extreme A2 V30 Micro SD - 160MB/s. The SanDisk Extreme line is a great choice for use in any of GoPros latest models.
Best Value. MyMemory 64GB V30 PRO Micro SD - 180MB/s.
Best High Capacity. SanDisk 256GB Extreme Plus V30 Micro SD - 170MB/s.

I finally bought a hub that let me put a manual fan clutch on my trucks and I love it
"new" is often just an acronym for: "Never Ever Worked" ;)

A good mechanic is SO valuable. Kudos
In my youth, I had no idea about the dangers of popping off the radiator cap when a vehicle was overheating. I got VERY lucky. The cap and the hot water shot past my head by an inch or less.
Never did that again.
In Illinois we used to do that by putting a very used shirt over top of the cap...still a very bad idea
Even when it’s not overheating it’s still not wise that coolant gets hot under normal operation
@@ryans413 Very good comment - it's still very dangerous as the system is under pressure.

Did you check the airflow from the electric fan? Good video!
I have see the electric fans wired backwards where they blow out through the grill.
Now this is what he came up with:
2 new rack end bushings (there is actually nothing wrong with them)
2 lower arm bushings(these still have life in them and aren't torn)
2 sway bar bushing(these are still good)
Brake pads need to be changed and brake rotors need to be serviced and
2 stabilizer links front (finally this good diagnosis).

"Sniff" Grug inspired! So much feels now...
Motor mounts as well.
You ARE the MAN!!! Excellent! Love your thought process!
I usually use a blow gun to force air against the blade, if it stops REeeeeeeeeeeeee, lol.
This sounds safer!
Good tip.
When you stuck that hammer into the fan blade, I subscribed!

Anybody else have a friend or relative who thought they could just weld a clutch fan so that it wouldn't release? 😂
My two favorite things to hear from somebody who's done that are hey it's really loud!
I've learned that lesson when I had bought part years ago. I totally agree. Great video and fix.
Regarding your GoPro, the SD card MUST be one listed on gopros site as approved
SanDisk extreme is on there......it shoots in high resolution. even a SanDisk ultra can't handle how fast it writes data and how high the video quality is...must be the extreme or another on listed as approved for GoPro 9 on gopros site
The SanDisk extremes actually have a little GoPro logo on them
And here I was going to suggest not using a "SIM card"... :)

You absolutely have to keep these suckers cool. Otherwise they will never, never reach their full 98k potential before the camshaft/lifter apocalypse.
Good job. Diagnosed by observing the faulty item and having experience to know that it wasn't working correctly.
Great work!
Next up for that truck, TPSM's and a full abs workout.
Since I assume new=good, they're normally the second item I look at. I'd have checked the radiator for clogs (dirt buildup on the fins) and the electric fan for operation (since it should move enough air without the clutch fan).
I had the fan clutch go out on my car. got it replaced, it was perfect after that. the spin looked off so good catch sir.
Yeah great mechanic and seems very honest I only wish there were more like him.
I like and watch all your videos. I listen to them while I'm at work. Cant always like all of them but I do like them
