Great topic! Thanks for your honesty.
Thanks for the love and support brother!
Thanks for the information
Love that you stick to your guns on what you like and don't like Z. Barton is my jam, but it's silly think everyone should prefer the same stuff. Gimme, gimme all that VOB, 1792, Calumet, Lucky Seven, and Buckner`s lol.
I am fairly sure that we have similar palates. I agree with all except ER17, which I haven't had and cannot comment on.
Mix that full proof 2 to 1 with pendelton 12 year 100% rye it's a game changer. I drain pored dickel. The 15 year over 100 proof is outstanding
Man, agree on the Jefferson. Bought the Tropics and most disappointing bottle of the year so far. Talk about soggy peanuts. 🥜 😢
I agree 100% with the Four Roses SBS… It was very underwhelming and just plain boring to me. I would take a Four Roses single barrel any day over the SBS
I'm in Chicago, so we don't even get the Old Bardstown bottled-in-bond here. I hadn't even heard of it until a buddy of mine went down to Kentucky to visit his sick brother. He stopped in a Liquor Barn and the floor worker recommended this bottle to him. He bought one for himself and one for me. I haven't even opened it yet and it's been months. Fortunately he also picked me up two bottles of Cooper's Craft 100 proof too, which we also don't get up north. I think I'll keep that Bardstown as a "regift" or to bring to a party and leave it somewhere.
My Calumet 16 is not very good:( I have a 1792 full proof that’s really nice, 4R regular small batch is better IMO, never tried the others.
What I love about your channel is the honesty-few things n your list I really like, but makes me question why-did I buy the hype or do I generally like the juice? Great video to challenge some conventional thinking.
1792 full proof is one of my favorite bourbons. To each his own though.🥃
I've only had the Jefferson's Reserve. Didn't like it and so have had no interest to try to the more expensive versions. The "at Sea" thing just sounds like such jive marketing bs, so they can charge a schmidtload of money for it.
Excellent review. I always enjoy and respect when someone shares from their honest opinion. Thank you. Now the however. There is with me and it seems with you guys, a difference between quality and value. Meaning, “that whiskey is good or bad” versus “for the cost, that whiskey is not worth the cost.” For me, I can by 4R SBS all over town at MSRP. So for me, it’s a working man’s 4R LE (which I can never find)
Totally agree with 1792 full proof, I think it sucks
Definitely agree with ER 17. I'd add Elmer and Henry McKenna to the list.
Since the majority of Bourbon drinkers are not high rollers, can't we just agree that No Bourbon bottle is worth more than 150 bucks!
Not sure what's "Hipster" about a $14-$15 bottle. Now Rock Hill Farms... 😂
Also, nothing overated about 1792 FP at $45
Calumet 16 took a long time to open up for me, 3-6 months. But once it hit it's stride its great everytime. I got 2 different batches and they both are very enjoyable. I will say $120 is the max I'd pay (thank you Costco!)
1792 Full Proof is great and if you find it at retail it's a steal, especially these days.
Interesting. My 1792 single barrel, crushes in blinds every single time. I have many more expensive bourbons, but that and my knob 12 year always come out on top.
So ER17 is on the list because of the price? What’s the highest price that you would consider it a value?
I was able to get the Dickel 8 year for $9 on a clearance shelf at my local grocery store which put it in an "OK" category for me. Would not have felt the same if I had paid full price.
Honest opinions are appreciated. I like 1972 SB when I'm already drunk.
The idea that the two of you could agree on everything - at least until 14;40 when I gonged you - is bizarre.
We do have very similar palates to be fair. But with that said, We did do two separate videos showing our differences. We hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching.
I mostly agree with your list except for Eagle Rare. I’ll buy that every time at retail. Same with Blanton’s. We visit Frankfort about every other year and alway stock up on those and EHT SB at the distillery. I buy one and my wife buys one. We travel full time (RV) so it’s never an out of the way trip and a great way to get allocated BT at retail.
Secondary prices are crazy, but RHF has won every blind I’ve had it in.
Fred Minnick Hates on Eagle Rare 17 to no end
I agree with most butttttt I love my 1792 full proof I just do that's just me though man I also agree 15 yr calumet was the hitter in my opinion
Great list! Would love to agree but I haven't tried many bottles on your list (ER17, jefferson's, RHF) 😂. Mine would be Peerless Double Oaked. It's good but so expensive and hard to find. Not worth the time nor the money to purchase a bottle. Thanks for the video!
I'm not a Dickel fan either, and I couldn't understand the pricing on their 8 year 90 proof bourbon. I'm getting the 10 year Russell's Reserve all day over Dickel 8 and at a cheaper price. I did get a 101 proof version of the Dickel 15 year (got it on discount!) that was pretty decent. Had some brilliant dark cherry notes, if only that Dickel vitamin minerality wasn't lurking in the background, it would have been awesome. The vitamin note was at least subdued somewhat in the 15 year old.
Yes! Calumet 16... Well its not that good. Agreed overhyped. Hate that I bought it... Got caught up in the hype for sure.
The only one I can say I don’t agree with is the Lux Row 12. I really really enjoy that bottle. Otherwise, I pretty much agree
The Dickel 8 is a summer supper in my book. Nothing to get blown away by, but just a nice sipper. Also, I got mine for $25 off the last call at Kroger.
Nice score!
You lost me at 4 Roses Small Batch Select… 😪
Complaining about a bottle most will never be able to get. ER 17 😐😐😐
The Calumet 15 is great, and I was thinking of dropping the extra 50 for the 16. I'll go with your taste buds and just grab another 15 and add an OF1910 or Rare Breed.
Zac, this is your list and your palette. What you like and dislike should not be an issue with anybody. While I may disagree with you on bourbon or the best hamburger, I respect your views and insight. I have agreed with you many more times than not. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
I completely agree with the Calumet. It's sweet medicine. Hated it.
Not sure that the Four Roses Small Batch Select belongs on the list. It's not really hyped that much, it's always available, and usually always falls within it's suggested MSRP.
And it's fantastic. To prefer regular SB to the SBS is nonsensical.
Yeah that's ridiculous. It's great, it's available, and at a fair price.
I can only find the SB 1792.
I agree with everything on the list (except ER17, never had it.) MWND is the most overrated thing on the list. Good, but not nearly worth the money.
Also agree on the Eagle Rare 17. Not worth it
Is there any Jefferson’s worth having???
I was just at the store searching everywhere for soggy Peanuts 🥜 😂and couldn’t find them anywhere. I had no idea they were hiding in old Bardstown
Jeffersons Presidential
ER17😬! I have only purchased pours of it but it was fantastic. Only 1 time have I seen it for sale at it was $1800. So yes secondary prices ruin it,
David good to see ur face ain't all swollen no more
Lol this is so true! Thankfully he is back to normal!
Agree on all but the MWND. Love that stuff. Act 10 comes off way more rye spice forward which I love but i can see how if you want it to taste like the early ones you'd be more disappointed. Feel free to drain pour it directly into my mouth.
Listen, we all have different taste. But hit me up and I will take all of these bottles off of y'all's hands. I definitely don't agree on 90% of y'all's opinions on these. No disrespect.
10,000subs!!!!!!!! 🎉
Thank you brother.
So Zack, I take it you don’t like boiled peanuts either? 😂😂
I finally got around to picking up a bottle of Four Roses Small Bitch Select. I hadn't opened it yet and then my buddy got a bottle for his birthday from his wife. He shared some with me while we were tossing horseshoes. I agree, I was disappointed. Wish I could return my bottle. It might be converted to gifting material. In the future, I'll be happy to stick with the single barrel for $10 or $15 less a bottle. It's a much more enjoyable bottle in my opinion.
Agree the SiB is much better IMO
I don't pay secondary for anything, but I definitely disagree on the 1792 Full Proof. Tasty. But I also hate 1920, because it's like sucking on a block of wood.
I think it would be hilarious to see a Benchmark 17... Maybe inevitable?
Also, I have heard more people rave about Johnny Drum than Old Bardstown...
Absolutely agree on the Calumet 16. So overrated
Calumet is one of the WORST!!!
I agree with you Zac on every bottle but the Lux Row 12. They are two barrel batches, and I have had one that wasn't good at all. All the other have been amazing. You must have had one of the bad ones. Really wish we could drink one of mine
Here’s the thing it’s all personal. Agree on 1792, Jefferson’s but firmly disagree on Calumet, Midwinter and FR Select. The price aspect of ER17 I agree on but it’s a decent bottle at MSRP.
The Dickel 8-year is as close as I've come to a drain pour with a bottle purchase 😬
I feel the same way about EW BiB…it’s just not good, drink something better.
How is Dickel overated... nobody likes it 🤣
Oh man Zach. I was right there with you through almost all of your list, but then you had to hate on 4🌹SmbS. I agree that the SiB is better for a daily drinker, but nothing wrong with the small batch Select. I completely agree on the 1792 FP. Barton at cask strength needs a much higher age than what’s in that bottle (ex. Lucky Seven 14-15yr). I’m also way out on the MWND . For me it’s the price point. It’s not good enough to justify north of 130 when you can get a finished Starlight Rye for about half the price.
As for the Calumet 16yr, I also preferred the previous years 15yr and have blinded them many times. I did hear from other content creators though, that the Calumet 16yr has some variances in flavor profiles depending on which 16 Barrel batch you have. Some were better than others. Great list, and content as always.
1792 FP is 8 to 8.5 years old. $45-47. You want more years than the price will and should go way up. Weird how 1792 gets 💩 on yet I can no longer find it and if I do it's marked way up.
Yep, the Barton hater. Was expecting that. 😅
Yeah about that........ lol.
I’d get all the hate because I’d replace ER17 with this year’s GTS. Don’t get me wrong it’s good, but it doesn’t deserve the praise it gets when there’s stuff like KOK and OF150th out there. Also, Jeff Ocean is amazing at CS, and 1792 FP is better as a batched product.
Totally agree on these.
The Calumet Farm 16yr is an anomaly for me. Really enjoyable Bourbon on its own, but absolutely dissappears when put in a blind. Has almost always finished near or at the bottom. I've got a few other Bourbons like this that must be enjoyed solo. May be worth a video!
Kinda disagree on MWND Act 5, was still aged between 5-19 years and still had a significant amount of old Barton Ryes in there. Still have a backup in the bar. The other bottles you show that I have tried seem about right, although I don't mind FR Select.
1792 full proofs have always drank so hot to me. Definitely disappointing because I feel like there are some good flavors under the ethanol, but it is way too ethanol forward to me. I have tried several and decided it just isn’t for me. Same goes for Old Forester barrel strength (for me).
Mix 1792 2 to 1 with pendelton 12 year 100% rye.
Really glad to see this list wasn't the usual suspects: Blantons, Basil Hayden, etc. 😊
Glad you enjoyed!
Dave is just watching Zach dig his own grave 🫣😂 just kidding lol. Spot on with the 1792 fp 100%
Smash That Like Button
Sorry dude the old bardstown taste like Marciano cherries to me. But maybe I received a great bottle. And for the price, I was super happy.
