So theoretically one of the main advantages of using long board pedals for doubles is that you gain better leverage off the heel plate. So he has raised his heel plates up significantly to increase the leverage to make the doubles more powerful, which also decreases the need for extreme trigger settings. Either way the dude is a madman.

Absolutely love these reactions Craig! Not only are you a beast of a drummer but the only guy on UA-cam that consistently has me creased up with laughter! Absolute legend! Podcasts are damn great too! Thanks for all the amazing content dude!
Doubles aren't too hard to learn, took me forever to figure it out. I recommend making your pedal board as flat as comfortably possible and using a flat footed technique. Just bring your heels a little off the back of the pedal and press down with the middle of your foot. I can do it and you're better than me so I'm sure you can do it bro! I'd love to see you incorporate them too!
My theory behind the ice-cream sandwiches : he has short legs and to play at a comfortable tom and snare height, he need to raise all his pedals up. I might very much be talking out my ass :)
Love both Alex Erian and Alex Grind. You are so right about Grind though, he is so quiet and mild mannered. I have known those guys for years since they came to the US on support of The Healing Process album.
doubles are pretty easy, it's actually more about the pedal settings and using the right type of triggers and stuffing your kicks. I use trigmic lasers and they work awesome for doubles, built in samples so you only need one xlr cable, not 3 or 4. runs on batteries so no power supply needed. You can basically double your fastest double bass speed using doubles. Cheers Craig!
Funnily enough, in the other drum playthrough, of the song Unbreakable, you can see that Alex uses push pull and not the freehand/gravity roll technique.
I think his pedals need that robocop ice cream sandwich because his chair might be adjusted very high, so he somehow cannot reach his pedals...Very ultra odd technique, but it works for him so whatever....I also noticed he leans his back forwards when he does his doubles, which is also very weird....His push pull is amazing, it almost looks like a fucking gravity blast...
I'm more surprised when people don't lean, since playing fast (240+) and long runs of doubles require a LOT of leg force and body weight being over the pedals
Craig, can we please have the reaction video for the you know what going into the you know what, WHILST overlaying the last breakdown of this song, to see if there is any link?

Dude i saw them when death core didnt even exist yet in quebec city l'anti and everything is real they invent deathcore and this guy is a fucking machine
Absofuckinlutely! HIs Benighted 'Martyr' play-through is one of the most fucked up things I've ever seen LOL! Unbelievable the speeds he can play with heel up!
The pedals are raised due to his height as they give him more power with a lower heel, less pedal movement when letting up, and the ability to bounce his heel more and then tap the ball of his foot almost as his arch hits the pedal bottom, rather than kicking forward with the toes toward the front of the pedal. More of a scooted back heel-ball technique instead of "heel toe"
He is hitting that crash cymbal on the horizontal edge with the stick being vertical. I know, it took me awhile to notice it. But your curiosity and replays allowed me to notice it. It's cool for sound effect, but is kinda a pain to do it just right.
If you can't monetise these anymore, and I can't catch a Twitch stream. How can we best help you fund this perfect nonsense? Seriously the only YT channel I immediately jump on to watch as soon as a new video drops. Pure gold every time.

You my friend just earned a subscription from your EC2 comment. Yes. They are absolute garbage and hate them ALMOST as much as I hate Lars Ulrich. Cheers!
Fair play to the player, certainly great technique and dedication but for me, this stuff sometimes gets so focused on speed that it feel it doesn't leave much room for creativity. Feels like a tennis player that wins on aces instead of a flare of different shots. Just my 2 cents
'It looks like an ice cream sandwich for RoboCop' fuck I'd love to live in your head for one day Craig.

An ice cream sandwich for Robocop! 🤣 I love it.
That part with the bell he just hits it on the edge for the ambient wash of the bell without the attack of the ping.
I believe now is time for some Anthony Barone. 'Rise of the Fearmonger' from Beneath The Massacre's latest LP should be a good choice.
Chilling watching

Beneath the Massacre, Despised Icon and Ion Dissonance are the three best MTL deathcore/techdeath bands
