Great video as usual! I honestly like my official tracker extensions, I just hope the newer cables are in-fact better... My v1 cables lasted about 6 months or so. For the straps, I ended up 3D printing some strap hooks to make it easier to get on and off since I hated the velcro. The straps also just don't quite work for some people's bodies, so there's definitely a lot of improvement needed in general for them. There's some really neat development being done to improve Slimes in the future, so hopefully some of those issues can be fixed in later versions.
Well, I will say I have heard a lot about slime, but if these Eros trackers are basically the same but with a kind of better quality of life type of deal, then it's something I may check out in the future
Only real difference between them is they use EM7180, as opposed to the cheaper BNO085 used in production slimes (main reason slimesVR has a long order window is these IMU's have a supply shortage). Magnet pass through aspect seems pretty janky from a EE perspective, it would of been better for them to at least use pogo's. (also foresee those magnets losing their Nickel coating real fast with them being surface to surface like that.)
unrelated to the video entirely but the background music choice just brought me back to my childhood B.I.S was so good 😭 edit: holy hell it's the entire soundfont for the video my inner child is so happy rn
Problem I see is that using magnetic connectors means you cannot use the magnetometer for autocalibration/antidrift There are builders that use silicone wires with fully strain relieved.
@Jacobfov issues with extensions/ cables Cases literally falling apart (lids were loose) Incorrect firmware (customer could have messed with that part) Paid like 500$ for bmi 160s for 7+3 no straps or chargers They ended up buying my set 10 trackers Straps Go pro harness Charging station for half that.
All of the stuff I've heard about different trackers makes me super unsure on what to get, like I want trackers that don't feel uncomfortable like Vive trackers but at the same time I want accuracy when it comes to the movement in vr 😭
🤔 What I wonder about full trackers in bulk is that they can be spotty as they add up on a router's load from a couple of runs I've had and comments from the SlimeVR Discord. However, I can agree that not having to deal with AUX's a plus and in general, should probably be free when buying trackers based on something like BMI160s. Always had strange results if I went through the 10 tracker threshold while using my GT-AX6K for my Quest 2 and Slime setup. Would need to maybe run an extra router that's dedicated to Slime's to have the full picture or see if it does anything. At least if it does it means something like an AX55's a very small investment for more comfort.
I've personally never had an issue with it, but I do have the davolink minion 6e router which is surprisingly really competent for what it is. Running a second router just for Slimes is certainly an interesting idea though. You'd probably want the main router to be a 6e and the Slime router to just be a 2.4ghz network so you don't have overlapping channels. That being said I do believe Somatic is working on the ability to have the trackers connect with bluetooth, I just wonder how that will affect the latency. Right now the Slime server is saying I get around 1-5ms of latency which is pretty damn good.
Will definitely look into this for sure, been using Official slimes and DIY ones for a while now. I broke one of my official ones a while back and the DIY trackers I made I used the cheapest possible boards for them so they desync very quickly. I like the idea that I can buy just one if I need just one versus with Slimes I'm forced to buy a whole set if I need just one. Thanks for the video! Definitely subbed
Yeah mixing trackers with different boards doesn't tend to go well. I believe Eros uses the same IMUs as official Slimes so mixing them should go fine. I've never had any problems with it at least.
I have a Pico headset and the Pico trackers are coming out soon for £80/€90 which is a steal and they seem to perform similar to slime's but with estimation tech for the other body points. I might get a third for my hips as apparently that's possible too.
Not to mention the Pico Trackers also auto recalibrate when they come into view with the Pico headset's cameras which solves the drifting problem of regular IMU trackers. They will honestly prob be my next go to once I can get my hands on the money for them.
Trackers like these ones aren't really accurate enough to be used for something like vr gloves or other controllers. They have no concept of where they actually are in physical space.
I'm quite new to research regarding trackers, and I've been debating about getting slime for awhile but after watching I'm not sure what to do anymore, because according to one of my online friends their friend like 4 months back hated slime and had constant issues. I just want a cheap reliable option that isn't a gamble, and I've seen so many videos of people using slime but I'm never sure if I can trust it.

I don't think I quite understand the problem? How is it an issue that full body trackers are making you do full body tracking? Certain trackers have to be enabled for the skeleton model to function. Ghost trackers used to be a problem, but as far as I know those have been fixed both in firmware and software for well over a year now. What kind of trackers was your friend using? Official slimes or something else?
@@Jacobfov What I mean is that, lets say you don't want to setup 7 point tracking and just want 3 point. Well, the software doesnt like that and insists that 7 point is the only option and even shows that there is 7 trackers operating despite only 3 being on.
