    I think the most important part of CAS is knowing when to go into a plane

    • @rowshambro
      @rowshambro 4 роки тому +78

      Finally someone who understands, you can't just leave your team in a crippled position to fly CAS. It'll most likely cost the match and what good is that

    • @ED_667
      @ED_667 4 роки тому +39

      Yes, I once played a match when we knocked all enemy tanks and have capped all 3 points, and then some died and respawn as aircraft and we then have 4 aircraft 6 tanks left. And we succumb to second heavy tanks assault ( IS-2, Tiger II, Tiger I,...) and all the while I encouraged those aircraft to respawn as tanks for that I think we can pull a pyrrhic Victory from them

      As someone who's only recently reaching rank 5 and still struggling to grasp ground RB. When is a good time to get into an aircraft?
      I'm an excellent CAS/ fighter pilot with around 700 hrs in aircraft so I'm not a waste but I know I spawn at the wrong time sometimes.

      RB for air and ground are both really fun. It takes some adjustment compared to arcade but they're very satisfying to play.

    • @ccramit
      @ccramit 3 роки тому +1

      Made the switch about 2 weeks after getting into the game and I've never looked back.
      Some people are like, "I only play Arcade when I need to grind". What?! 1 decent match in RB will give you all the upgrades on one vehicle. Hell, in Air RB, all you need to do is drop your payload once in a bomber, and if you are on target, you can pretty much research ALL your upgrades in that vehicle once the match is over.

    • @thegregitto

      I saw the choice between Arcade and Realistic and chose arcade off the back, so that I wouldn't have to go through the transitory process of switching from easier beginner mode to realistic mode.

    A very much needed tutorial Odd. I'm glad someone finally did it.
    You forgot to mention, that bombs and rockets also keep the sideways momentum, so if you are sliding sideways in the air in any degree, it will throw your ordnance off target.
    What i'm used to do If i'm uptiered, i fly around the battlefield, get into the back of the enemy, turn off the engine(s), (also cut fuel to the engines, preventing it from automatic restart), pick a populated, startegically important place/target, glide in (in quiet) low altitude, high speed, sh!t on ppl, glide out of the conflight zone, restart engine(s), GTFO, rearm/repeat.

    I find it extremely awkward to hold down "C" to look around whilst using "E" and "D" to maneuver. Hence, the reason I have my "mouse look" button set to a thumb button on my mouse. That leaves my keyboard hand free to work as normal. It also makes it easier in tank RB as well.
    As for the NORDS, I like to use the arrow keys for missile guidance and keep the pitch of the plane up a bit when I let it loose, then pitch my jet down more toward the target. This way the missile exhaust isn't blocking the view of my target and I can bring the missile using a more top-down approach on the target.
    I still use the old default key bindings from when I installed the game 6-7 years ago. SHIFT=Throttle UP, Control=Throttle down, A&D=Roll Axis, W&S=Pitch Axis, Q&E=Yaw.

    • @askewcat3209

      yeah i also use a mouse button for camera control using c doesnt let you fully mouse fly unless you hold down c with your thumb but then you risk hitting space on accident and dropping any bombs you have

    The unguided rocket part was really helpful to me, because even though I'm a fairly experienced player, I always seeked good rocket tutorials, and I was not disappointed :D!
    About bomb dropping, I find the most success and acurracy with "bomb tossing", aka dropping my bomb right after I pulled out (you gotta aim directly at the target with this one), coming at a roughly 45° angle.
    You really make awesome content!
    Keep it up :D!

    This is great! I have vehicles around 3.7 in most countries primarily through PVE (assault arcade). I have dabbled in actual games a few times but as retired military I have a fear of letting my team down. I know its just a game and all that but the idea of not pulling my weight has kept me away from real matches until I get good at basic skills. This is exactly what I needed in the air aspect at least. The best key bindings is very helpful. I have tried it in VR too and almost didn't throw up...

    Very, very good video! This helps me with CAS, practice server setup and key bindings. All of these I needed help with. In the past I've made changes to my keys thinking it'll do one thing but it actually changed something else then It's a struggle getting things back to normal. So no more guessing. I didn't even know a practice server could be set up for a single player, I thought that function was only for friends list playing. The keys on screen you've added to this video is a nice touch to showing exactly how/when to use the keys we just bound. This video is going into my saved list, I'll be watching this over and over until I squeeze out every bit of info it offers.
    Since you've put in the time and effort to make this, I thought I'd supply feedback for you to get some info in return.
    Thanks for putting in the time and effort to make it. Again, Great Video.

    Your use of cas got me interested in it much more than I had been. Yesterday was the first time I got more kills in with my plane than with my tanks! I used bombs and guns flying a B 18A. People seem to respect its rear gunner (13.2mm?) more than most planes I have used. Great tutorial BTW and Thank you for the inspiration.
    While on the ground I tend to get killed by aircraft guns far more often than I am ever bombed or rocketed. Normally its while driving lighter or open top vehicles, even while hiding in shade and trees.

    The real fun is learning to treetop level drop vs ground targets in a jet. Huge fun skimming the ground and giving radar SPAA some surprises. Just a matter of getting used to distance, speed, and height. Great vid! A lot of people haven't wrapped their head around keyboard flying while free looking and this is a great intro to that idea. Pretty much a requirement to dodging incoming fire and situational awareness.

    Honestly, what made it easy for me as a noob when learning to ground pound was just to test pretty much every plane and see which one was the best at dive bombing. Then, I just kind of practiced using the same approach time after time, about 50-60 degree dive, letting go at about 500m away, and setting a long enough bomb fuse to where I didn't blow myself up.
    When I got the hang of that and could do it in my sleep, only then did I start branching out to other planes that required their own nuanced approach to bombing. Once you figure out how to bomb accurately with a good amount of planes, it makes it easier to adjust to the more difficult handling bombers.

    One quite important thing I'd change in the plane setup, is to move the *toggle gear button* away from your controls, so that in the middle of the battle, when you use your flaps and air breaks extensively, you don't accidentally lower your gear. I use N for mine.
    Also - mouse thumb buttons for elevator control, make it much more convenient, so that you don't have to use all of the controls on one hand.

    This is quite a great video, especially the opening showing inputs.
    Request for the next video: teach people to fly worse, its hard going up against ace fighters all the time

    This video is fantastic, i think a little more advice on dealing with spaa would be helpful, considering theres usually always 1 spaa vehicle up during your CAS lifespan.
    I tend to play spaa more than the usual player would (against planes) my main recommendation is to fly low and fast as this removes you from their sights and radar locks and to use any chance you have at attacking spaa vehicles when they are distracted by anything else, as well as fear the ostwind and never underestimate the aim of some players, especially when if they hit you once your plane goes down, no matter how high you are

    I love this vid! I play mostly ground forces with just vehicles in my line-ups as I can't quite get the hang of flying planes with keyboard, even though I want to be able to do some air support. Gonna give your keys setup a go, set up some servers and noodle around with it.

    What a great job again ! I'm now seeing and understanding how much the newbie I was was right to set up everything when I started playing. But that's not enough though to be a good player, and your videos and tactics advices just helped and keep helping me so much ! So thank you for this, that's a great moment everyday to watch phly's video and yours, I can improve my english thanks to this too and it's great ahah. I would enjoy if you can give us advices for air RB too, I'm soooo awful at this gamemode.
    PS : the frenchie boy I am apologizes for eventual grammar mistakes there could be
