What would happen if dumbledore was killed by a bacterial infection. Would the bacteria be the master of the elder wand?
Dev Sharma Actually Dumbledore had a curse that was slowly killing him because he wore the Gaunt Ring which was a Horcrux. The Curse or the Ring or even the Resurrection Stone wouldn't be the master of the Elder Wand, the Wand would have no master. Basically it would chose someone worthy of it. Probably another criminal like Voldemort who was powerful enough lol.
@@althealligator1467 I think the idea was that the power was supposed to break, as the power transfers by Defeating the old owner. If nobody defeats Dumbledore then the power dies, which was why he let Snape kill him. Snape never "beats" him because he was willing to die, but unfortunately malfoy earns its allegiance first.

"Snape kills dumbledore" is one of those things that pretty much *everyone* knows, fan of the series or not.
So when, in the video, he says "spoilers..." He's making a joke on how that particular piece of information really doesn't need a spoiler warning as it's common knowledge.
It's that lighthearted joke that the OC is saying is the kind of thing that makes them love this channel.

You have a problem with Harry taking a wand from Draco. But no problem with Grindelwald stealing the wand first? Sounds the same to me...
exactly, if harry grabbing Dracos wands doesn't count, then Grindlewald stealing the Elder Wand doesn't count and Voldemort becomes it's master by killing Gregorovich
In the book, Grindelwald Stuns Gregorovitch with the Wand before he leaves, so if we count Disarming as vainquishing, Stunning works as well.
The difference though is Harry didn't steal the Elder Wand he stole Draco's actual wand. Grindelwald stole the Elder wand and was most likely dubbed worthy as the Elder wand is sentient and changes allegiance based upon who it deems powerful and worthy.
Cameron Randall I think the distinction is that Harry took Draco’s wand from him. The elder wand wasn’t even there. And when grindewald to the wand he stunned Gregoravich.

Here's a theory:
When Newt disarmed Grindelwald, he became the master of the elder wand. However, maybe, later on in
the series, Newt does something very bad in Dumbledore's eyes, and, so, they get into a fight, where Dumbledore wins and becomes master of the elder wand. Because of this, the wand backfired on Grindelwald, and it was only Grindelwald's skill that made him last so long in the duel. Then, in the cave in the Half-Blood Prince, the potion Dumbledore drinks might have made him drop the elder wand, and since the potion was created by Voldemort, it might have made him the master of the wand. Then, during the battle of the 7 Potters, Harry's wand destroys the wand Voldemort is holding, thus making Harry the master of the elder wand. And that is why it backfired on Voldemort.
Just a theory.

I like this theory. I only think that it has one flaw (and this is just my opinion): Newt would never do something that in Dumbledore's eyes is terrible and certainly not terrible enough to lead to a duel between the two.
I always wished Harry would've taken the Elder wand and restored longbottoms parents minds. It being the most powerful wand I feel like it should be possible.

It seems like out of topic but it isn’t, it’s kind of the same thing. Gandalf addresses this in the lotr trilogy. He says he does not want the ring because it’s just too tempting. Even though he might do some good with it the line between good and evil is sometimes easily overseen and therefore he decides not to use it at all. Harry made the decision to snap the wand because even though he might have good intentions what if someone stole the wand again because of its power? The loop just goes on and on and he ended it wisely.

It's why Neville was so bothered in book 4 by Imposter Moody using the curse on the spider.

Doesn't break the theory, like Theo pointed out, but still an interesting thing to think about. It might even make the thing about "in the fight between Harry and Voldy, it didn't matter who's the master of the elder wand" more satisfying, since both were the master and therefore another force decided who would win in the end.
Theo Salmon actually lily's protection was over when he turned 17. But if harry and Voldemort are both masters Voldemort couldn't kill harry but also the wand would not back fine on him either. Very confusing lol
Voldemort hinself killed the horcrux inside harry when he killed him. It was that weird blood baby during the meeting between harry and dumbledore in the all white station 9 3/4. So it wouldn't matter.

I personally think all of the plotholes concerning the Elder Wand are just due to Rowling introducing ( and probably even coming up with the idea of them) the hallows during the last book. It was shoe horned in as a plausible way for Harry to defeat Voldemort given the difference in magical talent and ability between them, and thus some plotholes were left as she tried to make it look like all the hallow stuff had been "planned all along".
This theory makes even more sense now that we found out Naggini is a human being turned into a snake

In the unlikely event you see this, all I can say is that I truly thank both of you. Your videos have helped me through many of worst times, three months ago yesterday my younger cousin died (hunter's disease) and I let it hit me recently. When I started to pull together my dog, a pet that I have had for most of life and who I would normally take comfort in, had to be put to sleep today to stop a slow painful death. Binge watching your videos together with those of a few videos has helped pull me to a stable state as they have often done, and that is one of the greatest things someone can do for anyone.

Aww don't be sad about your dog! You just did something extremely difficult but the most selfless loving thing a person can do. I work in a vet hospital and I see old, sick, suffering pets put down daily, and this may sound weird but it's one of my favourite parts of the job to help a family realise that they're blessed to be able to do this, we can't do it for our loved ones, but we can do it for our pets, we're so incredibly lucky to be able to give them that last amazing gift of a good, respectful, painless death. It should be a good thing. It's so worth it.
I have a dog who is getting older and although he isn't sick or anything it crosses my mind and upsets me. But this makes me feel a lot better about it when the time comes. Lovely supporting words. Love to the both of you.
I feel you. My dog is 70 pounds and 14 years old. A dog that size can't be expected to live older than 10-11, and even that's uncommonly old. It's like the equivalent of a 150 year old person. She's my big miracle. Her vet basically told us at her annual that she's super healthy, strong heart, but she's just so freaking old she could drop dead at any moment. You make the most of moments. I take her outside for long walks still, take photos and videos in the grass and sunlight, give her lots of hugs. You don't want to have any regrets.

@@minervasalazar3515 No, technically any other magical being can own a wand. the goblins and all other non human creatures are legally not allowed to have them because theyre already incredibly powerful and a wand would just magnify it and theyd try to have an uprising and easily overtake the humans.

The Elder Wand is full of plot holes. If Harry was the master of the Elder Wand after taking it from Draco Malfoy, then wouldn’t Voldemort be its master A: after Voldemort ‘kills’ him, or B: he was the master ever since Malfoy Manner due to the horcrux in Harry’s Scar?
well Voldemort never defeats harry as harry willingly lets himself be hit with the curse and doesn't even die, also the reason that the horcrux would count in nagini is voldemort is acting through it to command her, harry on the other hand is able to suppress Voldemort.

Thanatos Erebusson he never won against harry. Harry uses that to get into voldemorts head in the final fight. Like Harrys hole attitude is changed drastically. Like harry flat doen shit talking voldemort. "so it's coincidence i thought you in the graveyard and did not fight back now? No your magic has no power on anyone. You could not torture or kill anyone, tom" imho if Snape had been the master of the want and by that Voldemort Harry would have won the moment he pretty much made voldemort a) blow up his own horcrux b) stupid as he is allow harry to set up a blood ward. And as the blood ward came into being harry had won in that encounter.
This never was a physical battle as harry did not even consider fighting. He didn't need to and he completely disregarded his life making his death not a defeat but a winning condition as well.
That's why my personal theory is harry became master of the wand the moment voldemort raised it. The wand saw through harry and was like "gg mate. You got this fucker. Your plan only needs a clear intent of dying to protect the lot and getting rid of that ugly thing on your face. Let me blow that up real quick"
Basically the Elder Wand is kind of an excuse. Because it's "more sentient" than the other wands it just allies with whoever it thinks is strongest. This means that Rowling can make anyone the master of the Elder Wand, because there is no actual definite rules, rhyme, or reason behind who it allies with and "strongest dueller" or whatever is arbitrary. Theoretically if the Elder Wand really did go by power it totally would ally with Voldemort. However, even then, it doesn't matter, because as we already know from Case Study 1 Grindelwald vs. Dumbledore, just because someone is master of the Elder Wand does not mean they are unbeatable, a contradiction from the folktale it came from. That's why Ben is technically correct when he says that it really doesn't matter whether Voldemort or Harry was the master. The wand is only important because Voldemort thought it was important.
Point A+B: even if Harry let Voldemort kill him, and Voldemort was the master due to horcrux powers, technically Voldemort kills himself making Harry the only master remaining.
Already commented on another post, so I'll be brief here; perhaps because there's so little of Voldemort remaining the elder wand only provides him with the percentage of soul amount of its power. Ex: if Voldemort after so many horcruxes is 1% of his original soul, the wand is giving him only 1% of its true power, while giving 100% to Harry.
My explanation has always been that when Harry faced Voldemort the Elder Wand recognised him as master because he was using Draco's wand, the allegiance of which he had previously won. So it's not really a matter of the Elder Wand knowing what happened between Draco and Harry; when the spells collided it simply realised that it was going up against a superior wand that had beaten it before (i.e. Draco disarming Dumbledore), and that's why it subdued. Harry was lucky enough to be holding it, had he used a different wand we might have a completely different outcome

I have a theory. What if the master of the elder wand is the one who believes they are. Voldemort notices that he wand is disobeying him and he deep down doesn’t believe that he is the master. Harry has this whole theory and genuinely believes he is the master. Boom.

Brilliant theory... although missed the part where when Neville kills Nagini, he also kills part of Voldemort making the the bond of the elder wand weaker allowing Harry to win
KIlling Nagini did not make the bond weaker because Moldevort has only partial control of the wand because of his soul split in Hourcruxes. Naginni killing Snape with a part of Voldemort soul inside her made her 101.56% master of the elder wand that is transfered to Neville while Harry when he was killed lost the 0,78% of Moldevort soul so at the time of the duel Harry is not the master of the wand, 101,56% (out of 200% because Naginni killing Snape made two masters) goes to Neville for control over the wand , while Modevort has 0,78% control over the wand because hat is what's left of his soul and the rest being lost because of the rest of Moldevort's soul being already destroyed with the other horcruxes !
Rawling revealed in a press interview that TOM RIDDLE's DIARY "it would have strengthened the present-day Voldemort considerably." (after Goblet of FIRE) when Moldevort learned that Lucius Malfoy introduced it to Hogwarts and it got destroyed in the process.

Debunking the 'Harry can't die theory'
So... Voldermort did kill harry meaning the both died by the hand of the other. Therefore the prophecy would have been fulfilled and is not longer active.

But when Voldemort threw the killing curse, Harry didn’t try to protect himself, causing the Horcrux to be destroyed. Harry went to wizard heaven but was able to come back because Voldemort killed the piece of his soul instead of Harry...so I respectfully disagree. All of this information can be found in the chapter, Kings Cross in the Deathly Hallows

Great! Also, when Harry finds out about Neville and his parents (in GoF and OoP), he realizes how much greater suffering Neville has experienced. Harry's empathy for Neville is, I think, another reason why the Elder Wand would be shared by the two boys--something else that brings them together.
This is by far my favorite theory that I have seen so far.

I think we have to trust the books with this one. It's Voldemort to choose the One between the two boys, but I think that if he had chosen someone else (misunderstanding what he had heard of the profecy, for instance) that someone else would have been the One with the power to finish Voldemort.

If nagini killed Snape, and the wand though it was Voldemort because it was a horcrux maybe it also confused Harry as being Voldemort as well seeing he is also a horcrux ?

They did that, Draco takes wands. After Dobby dump the chandelier Harry takes all wands from Draco like in the movie. I checked that in my book so all is ok in movie. Site 487-488 (in my version)

Personally I like to think that Dumbledore’s plan to let the Elder Wand die with him actually worked for a little bit, but when Harry died and came back, thus mastering Death, he resurrected the power of the Elder Wand
Hey J and Ben, I just wanted to recommend the Throne of Glass book series by Sarah J Maas to you in case you haven’t already read it just because I think it’s an amazing book with a REALLY WELL CRAFTED PLOT that I feel like would be sooooooooo good for theories. Plus, it’s like fantasy Harry Potter-y so I think you would just really enjoy reading it. If anyone else has read this and agrees that Ben and J should read it then please like so they can see.

But does it also mean that Harry was even more master of the wand when nagini killed Snape? Cause he also has more souls in him. So when Voldemort became master he, Harry and nagini became the master of the wand.
MrDestabilize I was thinking the same thing, but then I remembered that when Voldemort kills him the soul part is separated and essentially destroyed so in the end it’s just Harry without the extra soul.
But Grindlewald also took the wand physically, taking it from Gregoravich.

I caught on to this theory even before I clicked it. All I see is “Neville is the true master of the Elder Wand?” And I was like ooooooooh
I think the fact that JK says the Elder Wand can choose who it is allied with means that we can't just decide for ourselves. Besides, disarming your opponent is, in a very literal way, defeating them. Everyone conveniently thinks of defeating an opponent as killing them, but this is clearly not the case. Once Draco disarmed Dumbledore, the wand chose to ally with Draco. So Snape killed someone who was no longer master of the Elder Wand. The next person to defeat Draco in a sort of battle was Harry. JK talked once about her American editor questioning her choice to have the Elder Wand change its allegiance in such a simple way as Harry and Draco tussling on the ground, and she said she thought it was kind of beautiful. That the fate of the wizarding world should be decided by a physical fight between two teenage boys. I love your videos, but I think this one makes too many non-canonical assumptions.
