Hakeem apparently said to Shaq after they beat them that "you guys going to be trouble for next 10 years" or along those lines. Penny was the coolest and coldest cat in the NBA for the times.
Let’s keep it real. When they talk about egos they’re really talking about one person and one person’s fragile ego only, anytime his co-star got more shine he behaved the same way
They absolutely would have won, had Shaq stayed. Start Shaw at the point, Penny at the 2, Shaq at the 5, Horace at the 4, either Anderson at the 3, or make a trade to fill that spot. Having both Anderson and Scott as starters, hurt that team, defensively, and scoring wise.
Put it this way....They would've won the same amount of titles that he and Kobe got. Penny was more unselfish than his partner in LA. By far.....And deliberately (on the court) played 2nd to Shaq.
I love Shaq man but i really think he got jealous of the attention Penny was getting back in the day. Penny I think was the 2nd most popular player behind MJ.
Wasn't just Nick though. They fell apart as a team in that second half. Veteran players > young bucks. Just how it goes. Miami did that to young OKC in 2011 of Durant, Westbrook, Harden and so on. Shaq too much not focusing as he admitted partying and hanging out prior.

Jealousy issue.

I believe they could have
Thanks Nick Anderson......
