You just save my life with this tutorial, it was my last step to upload on Distrokid, you have now a die-hard subscriber. I have searched all around for this and a lot of engineers are hard to find and ask. Keep up the great work my good man!
I'm running out of great things to say about how eye opening is this series...it simply elevates my confidence that I can do this and that's the essence of learning anything.
Finally somebody explains the new definition of bounce. My first experience as an engineer was on a 16 track with 2” tape. Not a lot of channels to work with and I did a lot of that kind of bouncing. Then I ran across the term in Logic and the meaning of the word was a lot different. I gotta watch the video a couple of times to get my brain reset. lol
Thanks for the wonderful lessons. I've watched other Logic Pro tutorials and was still baffled at using it. I accepted that I wasted money on the program and gave up to use Audition. You have unlocked the incredible capabilities of the program for me, so I guess I didn't waste money on the program after all! Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! I upgraded from GarageBand iOS to Logic on Mac… other than the similarities between all DAWs it’s like learning a whole new language! I binged this series up to this point and have learned so much thanks to you… definitely been drinking from the fire hose so I will be referring back to this channel often! Thank you MusicTechHelpGuy!
So very good! Appreciate your effort - I learnt a couple of tremendously useful things about Logic which I haven't derived from the many other sites I've come across during my recording sessions.. Thank You!!
I could'a bounced it and had Dinner way before this guy did! J/k, man, great tutorial! Great idea on the master fader bus to track fade out idea. I like learning new stuffssssss. Solid tute!
Great song Josh! It really came a long way. Tutorial was great as always too. One thing worth mentioning, The first time I bounced a project I used “Export” from the File dropdown. (I was new to Logic) What Happened was I exported “All tracks In Project” and ended up with all the tracks separately on my desktop! Also known as “stems”, I believe. So, if anyone is bouncing using “Export”, be sure to use the the proper menu dropdown. Better still, use the Bnc button like Josh showed in this video. Gianni❤🤦🏻
Great point. And that will be the topic of #34. I meant to put it out today, but I'm fighting off a cold and my voice is wrecked. So probably Tuesday or Wednesday next week I'll be back! Thanks!
Thanks, Josh. I think I know quite a lot about the topic in this video and it showed me that I used the right settings for making the final wav-file for sending to the distributor. Looking forward to the next videos, especially the one about Logic Remote! 👍🏻👏🏻🙏🏻
In this video, I demonstrate the following: 1. Where does the term "bounce" come from and what is it? 1. How to set your bounce range and prep your project for bouncing. 2. How to add a "buffer" of silence at the start and end of a song. 3. Explain all of the settings in the bounce dialog. 4. What is dithering and why do you use it when bouncing? Another great video. Thanks so very much. In regards to Bouncing Modes. I've found that when bouncing my tracks (I use Logic primarily for audio book production)that certain filters won't get processed properly. One item that comes to mind is the Waves deBreath plugin. It does a great job of removing those big deep breaths the artist makes before a sentence or paragraph, and when the track is played back I get perfect removals, but when I bounce my track I find that I get many breaths coming back into my final files. The only way to totally remove these is to bounce in real time. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or there is a look ahead setting that's not activated but I've never had luck bouncing in offline mode using this plugin.
I have a problem whenever I bounced my project into wav file... the volume sounds slightly lower and less bright compared to the track i listened inside logic pro. anyone have the same problem and know how to overcome it?
Super... Plz continue this series and also include the All logic audio effect plugins in the tutorial like... Envelope,Space Designer,Echo,Dessar, limiter, stereo delay...Etc...
@musictechhelpguy where are you capturing your mic audio from? I’m going to start creating content on UA-cam and would like to know if you capture it within your screen recording software or if your daw captures it while you’re doing the tutorial? I’d appreciate your help since you’ve been doing this for many years. Love the channel
Just a personal choice. I like to automate the Master VCA because when you add it to the tracks area, you can actually move it around, whereas the stereo out you can't. But you'll end up with basically the same result either way. Technically the Master VCA comes after the Stereo Out, but the VCA doesn't actually pass any signal. It's just a control source for the entire volume of the project.
Hi, you're really good. I just wanted to know, because when I listen to my song on Logic's project and after Bounce there is a clear difference in volume. I don't do normalization or anything like that. In both Wav and MP3 the music sounds lower and flatter than what I listen to in the project. If you can help me I would be very grateful. In the meantime, keep going! 👍
Hello there, I just have a quick question, I was watching your tutorial and I notice there's a -1.1 yellow on your master channel strip, and I'm just curious if this is save to bounce my projects? Please please let me know, thank you so much🙏
Most streaming platforms prefer a -1 dBFS peak level for your final masters. So when I set my final limiter I set the ceiling to -1. That's normal for a fully mastered track.
Curious to why I’ve had 3 diff instrumentals not work after sending to people. Its only happens 3 times in a year. I looked at my settings resent, and wouldn’t work. It played on there computer.
Thank you for posting these videos - I really appreciate it. I'm really green with Logic Pro - and was wondering if you can help me with an issue I'm having with my bounces. When I do the bounce - my effects (like Reverb) aren't there when I play the bounced wave file. Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong, please?
Is it just one project or is it happening in all projects? If it's just one, there maybe some weird routing issues or glitch, that you can probably solve by re-setting up your busses. If it's every project, you may want to trash the preferences/settings or delete your PLIST file. And if that doesn't fix it, do a clean install of Logic. Check the bottom of this article for how to trash prefs and PLIST: support.apple.com/en-us/HT200260
@@MusicTechHelpGuy Thank you for the reply. I feel like I'm in way over my head. Years ago, I used Cakewalk on a PC and was able to get things to work for what I needed. Then I switched to a Macbook Pro and bought Logic. It sounds like I'm going to have to learn about routing and Busses to make this work for me. I really appreciate your response. Do your videos cover routing and setting up busses? Like I said - I'm really green - but would like to learn Logic and be able to lay down some basic tracks - with Reverb on vocals and do a bounce and and have it work. To answer your question - this happens on all of my projects. Thanks again!
hi thiks for Sharing, I have a problem when I bounce a song I see that my song, RIGHT headphone its low volume nd when I make bigger the audio I see that the file on top its loud snd the one down its low smaller, any tips ?
Sounds like you might have accidentally panned your stereo out a bit to the left and then bounced. Press X to open the mixer, go to the far right until you see your stereo channel, and check the pan.
any reason as to why whenever I bounce a piano track on its own, it always comes out distorted and the sound is corrupted? this only happens with the piano and it sounds great in logic. as soon as I bounce it just sounds so trash
Since I updated my OS and the Music app replaced iTunes (though still looks almost identical to it), I can no longer bounce a song from Logic directly into the Music app. I’ve tried all file formats with the “Add to Music” option selected, and it only renders the file to my project’s Bounces folder. They never import into Music automatically. I have to go into finder and double click the file, which then imports into Music
Weird, I bounced MP3/WAV in LogicPro as 320 kbps/44100, but in Spek analyser it says that my file is 18 kHz which by their logic means that its not 320/44100.. apparently it should be 20kHz in Spek to be 320/44100, any ideas ? :))
The missing 2k could be a number of things. (1) 2kHz in the upper range is actually quite an incredibly narrow range. The higher you go, the more narrow the frequency ranges are. (2) If you're analyzing the MP3, it could be a result of the MP3 compression, try a WAV or AIFF instead and see if you get the same result. (3) It could just be that your track doesn't have much energy in the 18k-20k range. That range is so high that most people cannot even hear it, it just adds a little "air" to the top end.
@@MusicTechHelpGuy cheers for responding:) I tried my WAVs as well some where 19khz some still 18khz, but the point is that it's my own bounces so they are still good quality but some people trying to check it via Spek and point back to me that it's not 320kbps file and 192 instead... 😅
Can you bounce a track even if its not 100% finished? I want to listen on different formats and basically just have a 1st Draft completed. Hope someone can answer this pls x
Ummm. Bounce your mixes at the same Resolution and Sample Rate that you recorded at. Let mastering engineer do any SRC (sample rate conversion) and dithering. If you’re using a distributor that doesn’t accept 24-bit PCM files, find a new distributor. Otherwise, great video as usual!

Do you HAVE to turn on the bounce range? Before you bounced? it was off so, that's why I asked.
Thanks.
No, if you turn off the bounce range/cycle range, it will just bounce from the beginning of the project to the end of the project timeline.
When I have a pretty heavy mix consuming a ton of CPU, I bounce real-time. If not, I’ll get random clicks.
