I’m 14 and the last few days I’ve been learning about pasture poultry wanting to get into it and raise 1000 birds a year so I can process on the farm
I like how you right to the point, no filler, just good info!
🥰💯
Getting the books soon. Was trying to a year ago but was unable to. They are timeless so no rush. I cant wait to get my homestead. I will def be ready. 58 years old but not dead yet. 💯💯💯💯💯
Thank you for keeping it straight to the point. All I needed to learn was there
Love your red houses and the landscape behind
John I love your videos and I love we can get all this information for free. Thanks for allowing us to watch and learn. Love it.
Awesome video, John! Can’t wait to see the series on the egg-layers!
It’s working!!! Building our first two tractors. Thanks ✌🏻❤️
Great attitude young man! Proud of you.
I really admire your organizational and leadership skills as well as attention to detail. That's how we walked on the moon. Well done sir. Thanks!
Can't wait for the egg layer series! My first 10 chickens are going out to the tractor this weekend, and will start laying in a month. I figured I would add a 4' x 4' coop to the back on the top 2x4 rail, nesting boxes hanging out the back. But really looking forward to what you have to say.
Yes! I am excited about the future videos to raise egg layers!
Thank you! This has been very helpful for me. I was concerned I had too many chicks for the tractor I built and you eased my mind, so thanks! I subscribed and look forward to reading on and watching more videos like this.
I have been subscribed to your channel for a while and just found you and realized I hadnt rung the bell, why i wasnt getting notified about your videos. Im ordering chickens this week and gonna build my coop soon. Good info! Thank you!
awesome video - thanks for inspiring us as the next generation of farmers!
This is a great video! Thank you
Thankyou so much John...your info is awesome
Some of your best videos John that is a good one
Thanks for all your hard work and all the great information starting my first 50 broilers this year
How big of a tractor do you have
With these tractors do you encounter predation? If so to what extent and what do you calculate in for that in your bird count? I've seen you have electric wire that you've used in some of your videos, do you use that alone on all the tractors or just select ones? I would like to try my hand at a tractor soon and we have coyote and fox in our area that I would be concerned about. I'd hate to start and end up losing them all. Thanks John, as always a great video and good info.
Thank you.
Interesting video, I think raising meat birds along with egg layers provide a way to cul the non producing eggers, do you know how I I would find a butcher?thanks
Getting ready to process my first batch of chickens raised in a slightly modified tractor of your design. It has worked great! I’ll be keeping about 10 hens for layers in the tractor until fall and was wondering if you have any suggestions for installing nest boxes? Thanks for a great channel
cardboard box with easy entry with hay inside is enough
Hi, I used to live in CT and predators were really bad for my egg layers. The coyotes would have thanksgiving at my house every year. How is this predator proof? Do you have any problems with loss?
CT has a western? Anyway good job keeping it simple.
Hello mate
How much a pasture ground do you need for 2000 chicken
Raising egg layers in my tractor too. Looking forward to your videos.
Fat Lady Farmer
I have 10 hens in my tractor that are about ready to start laying. I haven’t come up with a good idea for nest boxes yet. What are you using for yours?
@@kenmiller8499 I use a modified milk crate. But after my girls start laying they transition to the regular coop and free ranging with the others
Good ideal
What do you think are the best meat birds to raise.
Double thumbs up.
How often do you rotate pasrture to prevent cocidiosis
This season I put 35 Cornish cross in our tractor; however, I do move them twice daily plus they are allowed to truly range free and forage with an open door.
Audrey Morris If they free range, the standards for square footage of the coop isn’t relevant.
I did 45 freedom rangers in the tractor this Spring for 10.5 weeks. I didn't feel like they were crowded or there was too much manure or not enough forage. I didn't intend to do 45, but none of them died in the brooder.
depends on how often you move them and whether you are offering green grass/weeds/veggies or only ground forage ?
@@davelawson2564 I moved them once a day for two weeks, then twice a day for 5.5 weeks.
@@RandyKleinman More than what most do.
There is no question of manure accumulation or disease spreading with ur rotation pattern
John I have a question and I hope you get this in time. My 11 chicks and two ducklings are ready to go in the tractor but every time I do we get a cold rain that drops below 30 and I don't like that. Mine are at 6 weeks they are screaming to go outside I got good weather for the next week but I have rain one night and it's supposed to be a cold rain and then warm rains after the next week is that too much for them?
I’m seeing this a little late. For quick responses i would be a part of APPPA.org. I can’t keep up with messages in time. I hope you got a dry stretch to bring them out. That, and have enough cover for them so they can stay out of the rain and wind.
Could someone help me find the right size for 40 to 100 broilers for a chicken tractor
I was thinking a 8x8 or 8x10 or 10x10 or 10x12 somewhere around there
What can I do to start with 100 broiler in a small place,?
So if I understand you right, it's 27 chickens or less to dress your broilers for a poundage of 5-7lbs?
Does this chicken tractor keep them safe from predators at night?
Can you use these to separate your different breeds of chickens but they would not be mobile tractors?
I have 6 Red Orpington, 1 Swedish Black Star Rooster, 8 Silkies, 3 barred rocks, 3 Americans and 3 Columbian Wynandottes. I want to break them into 3 groups of chickens. And build a few of these tractors and fence them in and make it like a home so to speak
How much land do you need for 1 batch in 1 chicken tractor?
are you going to fix the errors in your book in a version 3?
🌈💪❤️😎
Which is it 8 square feet per bird or 2 square feet per bird??
2 per on meat birds and 8 per on layers. Different birds have different needs.
I have 6 birds in a 6 x 10 - They want to kill each other- it's too small.
They may need some more activities as well. Bored chickens beat each other up. Try hanging some vegetables by strings. It’s silly but it helps.
