My Deutsch Ami father flew Spits under RAF, and searched a few times for V2 launch sites. One time, they saw a puff of smoke, and a V2 came right up through the middle of the squadron. Must have looked like Flash Gordon sci Fi. Scuds are just improved V2s.
It's amazing how far technology you came there was so much science that came from world war II and technology that was one good thing that always come from war society advances fast all those people did that so we can sit back and watch movies and live free I really thank God for them

Perhaps somewhat "Hollywood" in this episode but the London bombings, destruction and deaths by V1 and V2 rockets was NOT "Hollywood"! In fact launching sites at Peenemunde on the Baltic were ultimately destroyed by British air raids, largely successful as a result of espionage by very brave spies who were indeed able to locate the V1 and V2 launching locations. This Combat episode largely highlights the devastation the V1 and V2 rockets caused and is a tribute to those very brave spies, many of whom died in their efforts.
Actually they were launching V1 and V2 rockets from all over France in the late years of the war not just in Germany till the Allies over ran to sites the only reason they stopped they didn't have the range anymore they were too far away if I'm not mistaken but you were right there was some brave people in in that generation a lot of people gave their life for freedom I really appreciate your comments
1945 the Germans made track rail launch for the V1 in France they had a mobile launch site for the V2 and the V1 they moved them into the woods so the planes couldn't see him they wasn't just launched from near the Baltic they were launched in France too in Belgium the Allies had a hell of a time trying to find all the last sites for the V1 and V2 rockets if they were only at one place would have been easy we're not easy but easier thanks for your insight

I was unaware the launch sites were relocated into France and Belgium. I do understand the launch pads were situated on short rails and moved in and out of hiding. My only connection with WWII was through my father who survived 5 years of Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. He once told me "the happiest day of my life was when I heard news of the allied invasion at Normandy on the BBC" (paraphrase). Thank you for your knowledge of the V1 and V2. Hardly any millennials today have any knowledge of the V1 and V2 rockets and the devastation that they caused in London.

Ok., I assume you are an American. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Try being an Australian in the Australian Infantry Forces, the RAN or RAAF. We have fought alongside everyone since the Boer War in the last years of the 1800's, then WW1, WW2, Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, most 'peace keeping' missions and more. My Grandfather served in 2 of these and my Father served in 3 of those conflicts. What I do doesn't matter. This is only an American networks syndicated (that is very good and I have greatly enjoyed since childhood) series with obviously acted out nationalistic characterisations and not a few in the field 'get you killed' military misnomers. It's funny how authentic the show is but they always have the drivers driving on the left side when all your pants drove on the right side again if I'm not mistaken excuse me if I'm wrong about it but I always thought that Europeans drive on that right side and the car is steering wheel was on the right side I guess you can't find too many trucks in United States with the steering wheel on the right side it's funny to me how realistic the show is real than some movies I watched

This is yet another episode that attempts to show British officers as idiosynchratic fools who need the guidance of intelligent US Lieutenants, especially when most US junior officers were essentially 30-day wonders fresh out of trainiing camps. But as with Combat! in general, most stories are the ridiculous writings of people who don't have the first idea of soldiers or war, and place them in an equally stupid scenario and portray crass actions. Take the German lorry that comes to a sudden stop; as any child knows, when forward movement stops suddenly, anything being carried continues forward - except in Combat! when the goods fall backwards!! How do you explain that?? By thei very nature of the way Fireflies were manufactured, there was no accuracy in timings, for it depended on the fuse wire being dissolved by the acid, which could twenty minutes or several hours, so that particular scenario is a nonsense. If we ignore the false badges on our British pair, the Commandos never included Allies - least of all volunteer US personnel who would have no commando training, and certainly not without experience in commando tactics, and least of all using just one US officer and one soldier. The whole thing is a nonsense, just to make the US army look good. This sort of thing simply never happened.
I always liked the episodes that had the Brits involved. Always a jolly good show and a smashing episode.
