NEW E-Transit Custom, the Electrification of UK's best selling vehicle in 2 of last 3 years!!

  • In this review I have a walk around of the the UK Bestseller (of all vehicles both Car and van) in 21 AND 22 which is no mean feat for a Van!! BUT Will the electric version give new impetus for the electric van market... It is certainly a good crack at it! Sadly I did not get to drive but the fit and finish is well thought through and of a high standard.
Feels like there has been compromise somewhere though going with a 65 kwh battery with around 203 miles range rather than the higher capacity and range version announced in the IAA in 2022.
Certainly one to watch and if the feedback I have had from others that have had a drive it will not disappoint on that front when the time comes.

Thanks so much for covering this; great to see more eVans being released. Did I miss the price?

As you ask so nicely yes you did miss the price. I did not include it. It starts around 44 and goes up to 60+ for the bonkers MS-RT

I have never heard of an airbag in the roof. That must release a hell of a lit of space!

It certainly is an unusual move to create an extra cubby whole. I guess it must make sense!

65kWh battery size for a van that size does not seem all that large to me. As soon as you have a serious load and/or start running tools off it, that range is going to fall a lot I would expect. To be fair this is not just a problem with this van though, a lot of the electric vans available seem to be aimed at shorter range last mile delivery scenarios. I'm guessing it's biggest competitor would be the eDeliver 7 with a 88kWh battery which for many might be more attractive.

Great review, good to see its got a good starting range!
Plumbers will need to modify the bulkhead, as lengths of pipe are 3m, not 290cm!

    • @electricvanman
      @electricvanman  22 дні тому +1

I think they have the through load bulkhead so using that option should make it work just fine!

Having just got a Vivaro, I discovered there is a disadvantage to high-up rear lights: a rear door-mounted bike rack obscures the lights. If they were a bit lower, like the transporter, or most older vans then there is no problem. A bike rack you don't have to strap a trailer-board on is a very nice thing.

The reason is to minimise cost in rear end shunts and bumps which are the most common. Must be a compromise somewhere though

No wonder you delayed mentioning battery size for as long as possible. 66kWh isn't great unles your working inner city.

Well if you are getting the 160/ 180ish I would expect from this it covers the majority of peoples daily journeys for work. That said I was hoping it would break the 200 barrier based on pre launch info. Hopefully it will improve in line with the battery upgrade for the big brother 👍

It might be the best selling diesel van but not many are buying the EV versions, dealers getting stuck with them, heavily discounting them already, already seeing residual values that are shocking, quite a few leasing companies selling ex lease EV versions for same price as a diesel but the EV was thousands more when new.
203 miles in real terms winter driving with a load will be closer to 100-120 and who will run a van down to 10-20 miles left of driving ? This is not a Ford issue but issue on all EV vans, great for city delivery's with 100-150 miles a day but nothing more.
Plus Ford & VW (will be the same company soon) have the threat of cheap Chinese EV vans coming so when it comes down to price all European EV's will struggle. The ports are already clogging up with unsold EV cars.....
Can't see how all dealers/manufacturers will hit the EV/ICE targets especially next year. Scary times ahead.
Looking forward to the PHEV Custom, decent engine with some EV only range.

The ones you are speaking about are NOT the Custom version as it is not with Customers yet. I do not expect this van to be like the big brother with a wildly different actual vs prediction (via WLTP) I would expect around 2.5 mpkwh which should give it 175 in the real world with around 50% payload. We will certainly look to give it a real world test once it on the road

With NO OPTION to have different battery packs, then I can confirm IT IS NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!! 100miles or less range on the long wheelbase high roof model... is actually PATHETIC. It is a lovely vehicle to drive. I had one on hire for a month and the RANGE is by far its worst feature.

@electricvanman It is in the UK as a Demo... If you are a listed as a tester for Ford.... You keep it for a month and then have to write a detailed report back to Ford. As I said it's only weakness is the total lack of choice when it comes to the battery pack.
