@@JoshJorg44 some say less strain on your split section of the box, however RLTOs are designed to.be split in gear so its really a preferance thing. Can see an owner driver finding the benefit in longevity terms
I'm willing to bet all the negative comments on here are from guys who have never had the privilege of driving anything more than a stock dry company truck. This rig is sweet. I use a similar shifter and it actually helps shift much smoother, it's called leverage. I keep my rig just as clean... there's nothing wrong with a little pride in your ride.

Anyway, not all crashes involve cars, and there are plenty of crash types that will fling you out of your seat if you are not buckled, possibly out the windshield.

Billy Big Rig ! I drive truck in Canada (western provinces) and know of a young guy that almost lost his life because of those SILLY shifters. Long story short in a AB/BC Mountain pass was going around a curve foot off of throttle and road was hell as frost heaves and pot holes that shifter flew around like a wet dish rag (remember no torque on drive line) and he could not find a gear to save his live lucky was able to get back into gear before hard right onto bridge at bottom of hill. Not sure if he changed shifter but should have.I was told bullshit about shifter coming out of gear drivers try pulling out of gear when torque on driveline cannot be done with out breaking shifter.

Just a preference, I am a company driver so I take whatever I’m given.Noticed on an old 01 freightshaker a few years back that it would grind a little if I’d just pre-select and let off throttle. Letting it run through neutral was smoother and didn’t have to deal with any grinding. Had a 2013 that I put 600kms on in 4 years, always let it go through neutral. It is still tight. All preference...as long as you know what you’re doing
When I learned to drive a straight truck in school when I was 16 the truck had only 4 gears and still my instructor told me to start with 2nd gear since if you start from 1st and decide to switch to 2nd with double clutching (very old truck) truck comes to a complete stop :)

I'm all about what ever the driver wants to do. In this day and age everyone knows the consequences if your in an accident and don't have a belt on. I don't like the fact that the government makes you wear a belt or a helmet on a motorcycle. We need less government holding our hands and telling us what we need to do.

Why are you pulling it out of gear just to split a gear? All you have to do is let of the gas pedal to split a gear and move the button. Not pull, split and put it back. Just asking......
There's no reason for it other than make you feel like you're super trucker, proof is in the weirdly long unnecessary stick. Most people don't understand how to feather the throttle properly when splitting is why they get the herky jerky hard shifts.....

Welsh.anthony these trucks are all about the wank factor tho, I would never want to drive a european or japenese truck, only american peterbilt, kenworth freightliner etc. To me everything else is not cool and i wouldnt enjoy myself. New Zealand Earthmover I want to be a truck driver I'm from Auckland. Would it be a good career to pursue? I know NZ trucking is a lot different from USA. From my research and from talking to other truck drives they are not actually getting paid a lot so I'm just not sure
Daniel Frame hi, ive done a bit of trucking but not loads. Probably about 2 years off and on. No therea not much money in it. Maybe $20- 25hr depending on the company etc. There are probably higher paid drivers that cart special loads etc too but thats just a rough ball park figure. It is enjoyable if u love trucks tho! It costs about $800 now to get upto your truck and trailer class 5 licences too! Best to give ut a go if u have a job lined up to see what you think. A company may pay to put you through the classes if your real keen! Good luck

A guy that finally knows how to properly shift a 13 speed and he gets questioned I'm surrounded by super truckers and yes it is a 13 and not an 18 because the splitter nob is red not gray the proper way to split a thirteen is post select in other words put the gear shift in neutral than split the gear than put the gear shift back in gear unlike an 18 which is preselect in other words split the gear and let your foot off the throttle and if anybody wants to question me do your homework first nice driving man I drive an 86 359 with an 18 speed main box 4 speed auxiliary box and two speed rear ends all on sticks giving me 144 forward gears alone and I pull an 18 axle lowboy set up

Heavy haulers do this all the time. It’s easier on drive line. Allows you to eas into half shift rather give little jerk

trukka101 you’re 100% right about not hitting all the gears but I find myself getting better fuel mileage when I shift my 13 and hit everyone.
Don't worry trukka101. If he didn't use every gear he wouldn't look cool in front of the camera. Same with the seatbelt, it's just there for show.

Welsh.anthony these trucks are all about the wank factor tho, I would never want to drive a european or japenese truck, only american peterbilt, kenworth freightliner etc. To me everything else is not cool and i wouldnt enjoy myself. To me its all about the twin 10" stacks, loud as hell turbo spooling and bling :) more fun than driving an isuzu lol
Etienne Radeke yeah isuzu, hino, ford, daf, most truck brands. Not saying they are no good, they just dont have the same impact as a kenworth etc imo i like the noise the domed leather interior the straight stacks etc. I know they are rough riding etc lol but still
New Zealand Earthmover I want to be a truck driver I'm from Auckland. Would it be a good career to pursue? I know NZ trucking is a lot different from USA. From my research and from talking to other truck drives they are not actually getting paid a lot so I'm just not sure
Daniel Frame hi, ive done a bit of trucking but not loads. Probably about 2 years off and on. No therea not much money in it. Maybe $20- 25hr depending on the company etc. There are probably higher paid drivers that cart special loads etc too but thats just a rough ball park figure. It is enjoyable if u love trucks tho! It costs about $800 now to get upto your truck and trailer class 5 licences too! Best to give ut a go if u have a job lined up to see what you think. A company may pay to put you through the classes if your real keen! Good luck

The chances of getting stuck in neutral or missing he gear is lower when u do that. It's called stick in and out

I shift my 18 like he does. I feel like I have better control. Have you ever picked the throttle up b4 the splitter completed its job while not moving the stick? I hate it when that happens.
A guy that finally knows how to properly shift a 13 speed and he gets questioned I'm surrounded by super truckers and yes it is a 13 and not an 18 because the splitter nob is red not gray the proper way to split a thirteen is post select in other words put the gear shift in neutral than split the gear than put the gear shift back in gear unlike an 18 which is preselect in other words split the gear and let your foot off the throttle and if anybody wants to question me do your homework first nice driving man I drive an 86 359 with an 18 speed main box 4 speed auxiliary box and two speed rear ends all on sticks giving me 144 forward gears alone and I pull an 18 axle lowboy set up

This is a rookie trying to look cool. Twenty years hauling logs on the worst logging roads in northern Ontario canada. If i shift like this id be dead by now
not to mention that he didn't even down shift when he stopped ok he was most likely empty or bobtail but still trying so hard to be cool and couldn't pull it off
