Been a trucker for 40 + years and when Ben mentioned the smoke in the yard and the 2 AM departure it hit home with me. I don't know what it is but leaving a yard in the middle of the night when nobody is on the road is a feeling I'll always love.

Takes me back to my youth. 1956 Kenworth with custom built 290 Cummims with a 6 speed main, a 4 speed aux AND 2 speed rear ends. My uncle built it from several wrecks and was the truck I learned to drive on. The first year I just rode around in it and help work on it. Second year I spend learning how to drive it, but never alone. Third year I went out alone but he always came along with his new truck hauling two load to the same area. Fourth year I was on my own. We retired the Kenworth, I got his "new" 358 Peterbuilt and he bought a new "A" Model Kenworth. It lead to a more than 40 year career in trucking.

I’m so glad that mr Senter explained what a real 2 stick truck is when you can shift a 6+4 and a 5+4 your not one of the nit wits that use a second stick instead of a splitter button and if you’ve ever been in the middle of the desert with both sticks against the dashboard and your right foot on the floor in the left lane you really have know idea what real truck driving is It’s something that old guys like me cherish and consider the great days of truckdriving

with truck driver who drove split shifting duce and 1/2's on jungle roads in VietNam...on supply duties... his comment to my "learning" curve from our motor pool... was something like..move over, stop...change seats...hold on, hold my beer, and find something to hold onto...
Proceeded to say this is how to split shift this (bit^#) ....turned off the desert road we were traveling on in A,z usa....up and down bull dosed .outai

I learned on '72 Pete needle nose with a 250 Cummins twin stick.
No a/c, no power steering, 27 inch coffin sleeper with a crank up window between the cab and sleeper.

This is glorious. It's an absolute joy listening to Ben talking so knowledgeably and so passionately and so modestly, too. My dad was a lorry driver here in the UK and I used to love going with him in the wagons, driving through the night in the late 1960s. The first vehicle I ever drove on the road was a Guy Big J4T with a 40' York van trailer, down the M5 in the middle of the night when I was 8. There is a real romance and sense of adventure and I totally understand how people have what can only be described as a love affair with old lorries/trucks.

It's the sound... it's the way it feels to drive it all with perfection
And absolutely 💯% trucks have soul

Started driving in England aged 21 in 1962 first with 3 cyllnder two stroke Commer lorry then worked my way u to a semi known in England as an articulated lorry. A Foden 160 cummins with a 12 speed 4 on the floor three on the tree given to me to drive as nobody else wanted to drive it because it was complicated. Then i came to USA when i was 32 in 1972 worked on detroit engines in Rapid city S Dakota then worked at Universal transport rapid city on dry bulk tanks low boy end dumps and flat bed then i bought my first truck Freightliner with a 270 cummins then a 370 pete plus many different trucks finished with freightliner Coronado 132 with C15 cat 18 speed retired in 2021 after 59 years i guess i am old school. back in the 40's my uncle started driving @16yo he pulled fuel tankers with twin stick trucks in the hills of California, his boss removed the shift knobs until he learned to double clutch without grinding the gears, he said after about two 14 hour days your hands get real sore and you get real cautious with shift levers , he bought his last twin stick truck in the 70's w900a long hood cat 3406a 5x4 trans flat top walk in bunk with an aluminum frame, I don't recall him ever grinding a gear but he said it happens, he also said there were times, especially when loaded heavy he had to pull to the side of the road and start over, he said when everything is twisted up tight and you dont clutch just right it can kick the gears back in the wrong direction, in some way I think he was just trying to make me feel better when he was teaching me how to double clutch a 13speed, he said anyone can float gears but if you want your transmission to last twice as long you need tto learn to double clutch

    That is SOOOO 😎😎😎😎😎.
Love the deck plate never thought of
Wood decking. My Cascadia has Almost a full deck plate. Got one piece off my old IHC got another of a wrecked FLD
And the factory one. Still need 30" to make it solid. That Pete is yet another dream of my childhood. 3406B is an AMAZING motor. Dad still misses his.
Dad had a 6x4 spicer in his 79 KW.
Behind a 3408 cat. Sound like a good gig and boss.

Absolutely without a doubt the most kick azz video yet!!!! True epitome of Pride in the profession and having the love and desire to run old iron. Incredible. I don't truck but have nothing but mad respect for guys who live and breathe those old school trucks. What a video! Be safe out there.

Thanks Jim, I love that my videos cross over to people outside of the trucks. Rock on!

If I went to work for Mr. Senter, that's the truck I would want to drive

It was a pleasure to watch and listen to both of you and the truck. The twin sticks are a joy to watch, although I'm happy to navigate a 10- and 13-speed single.
Thank you for making and sharing this video with us.

I'm not a trucker, this channel came up in the algorithm. There's no way I could do that, it seems so complicated.

Hey Mike, what a great video! Watching Ben going thru the gears surely had me smiling from ear to ear. Loved the tour of the trucks in the yard & his 65 pickup, thank you both!

Great video. Takes me back to the 70s when I drove a White twin stick and a 63 Kenworth twin stick and - like Ben says - staying awake listening to Waylon Jennings and the Outlaws on an 8-track. Where have the times gone? I have driven a lot of other transmissions over the years, but there is nothing that holds the same attraction as a twin stick. It would be nice to be back there for even just a day. This video is as close as it gets.

i learned how to drive with a 5&4 i love twin sticks and old trucks old cat engines. also like old 2 strokes .this pete is a perfect old school truck very nice restored and i love how you drive it!
i am what i call an old school trucker. and i know the full meaning of it.
i dont like new trucks i agree they have no soul. no connections between the truck and driver
take care of this good old pete! shes a gem! 👌
