You guys are seriously killing it. Wish you guys were here in the states to do a video together.
yòoooooo
Thanks man! Do have many intentions of somehow making it out to the states next year to shoot some small town stuff... We'll have to try and arrange something
If you pop up in South Florida, let's shoot in Miami.
I live in Louisville, would love to drive up to shoot with you guys and Matt Day!
Ah, you, Negative Feedback, and Ted Forbes are all I watch. Keep it up!
u guys should shoot the same subject with different films for comparison.
I've always understood lomography to be oversaturared in a way like you mentioned but after seeing their color negative 400 it has entirely changed my pov. thank you so much for the awesome content!!!
Dude why u lie, we can all clearly see ur shooting HP5 - it's on the back of the camera jeeez
LOL I saw that as well xD
HA
Could you maybe when showing the photo list the shutter speed and aperture? Just so we get a complete understanding of the settings you used to capture that exact photo. Thank youuu
Unless they list the settings for each shot, that'd be quite difficult to remember especially when they were shooting multiple rolls.
That's what I missed from digital which I took for granted. 😀
He’d have to keep a notebook and take note of his settings before or after each and every shot. Makes the process even longer
I'm surprised that you described lomo as warmer than porta. I'd argue that porta is one of the warmest film stocks there are, with tones so far into the yellow that the sky is cyan more than blue. I think it's great for Caucasian skin tone for this reason. Especially for those with a more flushed or red complexion.
Thank you guys for this channel. Been looking for something like this for a while. Keep up the great work!
Great video as always, eagerly awaiting them each week now!
I happen to have just bought a 5 pack of Portra 400 to run through an RZ67 that I'm borrowing (with the intent of purchasing hopefully!) first time using both so hopefully an enjoyable experience!
Make sure to keep posting the videos up in Photo/Video talk UK/EU as well, as it's where I came across them first and I know a lot of people would be really interested if they've not seen already.
I'm surprised with how Lomography's film turned out it was actually pretty good love the video as always! :)
Great video! I am surprised how lomography came out so much nicer than i anticipated. I will definitely buy a few rolls to try out. thanks guys again for the video!
Just discovered your channel. I love it. Keep up the awesome work 👍👍👍
You guys definitely have something here and will get paid well off it. Don't slow down!
Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it
I know a lot of people are hitting you up if you come back to the States, but if you're ever back in LA and have time let me know. Im originally from here and can help you out if you need. I also have a ton of film cameras if you need equipment to use. You can find all my social media just by 2wenty to keep in touch if you like.
true
lomography 400 looks just like kodak gold 200
That's because all of Lomography's 120 color negative films are cut from master rolls of Kodak's consumer films
You find the beauty in everything. Love the shots!
Thanks!
Another great video. It would be great if in future videos you could do a recap of the photos shot in throughout the episode at the end -- so we get to see them all together again in mind with the things you were talking about them with.
Why are u guys so under rated💔💔💔 this channel is I believe is the best photography channel, i wish u guys got more exposure. Y’all should try to calab wit peeps in the US or something.✌️
Amazing results from Lomo 400, i think it is basically because the absolutely razor sharp Mamiya lens and the size of the negative, still, i'll give it a go with the RB67.
Amazing videos, good music, young Film friendly lads on a digital age, you're doing it so right! Keep up the good work and please, don't stop doing videos.
The production of your videos are superb! I might consider shooting with the lomography color neg 400 now.
Thanks! I'd definitely give it a shot, it's a fair bit cheaper too
You guys are killing it !! amazing ;) Thanks for the video guys.. I just shot my first colour film (portra 400, 35mm) and I'm really happy with the creamy look I got out of the film, also happened to shoot it at a classic american car show so it looks so rad (made a short video with pics too) and on saturday I'm shooting my second (portra 400, 120) yaay :)
I noticed in two of the Lomo shots you caught an airplane whizzing through... That's really cool! I'm shooting some Lomo Lady Grey right now... I found out that it may be re-branded Fomapan 400. I also shot the xPro 200 Slide film and wanted to process E-6 but I think the lab ended up cross-ing it. I liked it. It's good to throw rolls like that in the mix... Thanks again you guys!
Nice video and photos as ever ! Happy that you test this cheap but great film. Started analog photography with the lomo and still loving shoot some.
Love
Awesome! Thanks!
I'm really surprised, but I prefer the lomography's colour neg 400 to the portra 400. I'm wondering how much you edited the pictures after shooting or is this the unmodified outcome?
Unmodified!
It’s so nice to remember that summer exists.
Loved the Lomography in the basketball courts very underrated !
I agree with you that Lomo film is surprisingly warm and nice.
I love the pictures in the basketball court! I shot my first batch of pictures with Lomography (fisheye camera + film) and I didn't really like how they turned out. I posted them in the Facebook group I think, but only two of them came out nice. They are, like you said, more 'warm' toned and idk if I love that yet.. Great video! :)
Who said these images were boring? I love all these photos. I definitely want to get a medium format camera.
HI George, I really like your channel very very much. I am recently looking for a new film camera to buy. Do you suggest any flea market or film shop that I can get a handy one with me?
What lightmeter app do you use? Thanks!
Hey i never try film photography before. And i was wondering if these photos that you shoot are edited or that’s how it looks like straight from the camera??
Thank you in advance 😊
But nah sweet ep! Was surprised at how well the lomo film compared to the Portra 400, especially given the price diff
Damn guys! You're doing a great job and you got Matt Day to comment! Love the blind comparison - I guess you'd be biased if you knew what you were shooting. I somehow find myself looking out for Ektar situations if I've got a roll in the camera, for instance. Was surprised at the Lomography film. I'd seriously underestimated it. Grabbing some rolls!
Hi there. Great video! :-) good to see that film is still used.
I was just wondering if you're using only in-camera light meter, or do you (also) use a light meter app? If so, which? :)
I actually started shooting more Lomo 400 and 800 lately as I can't be spending a lot of money on Portra right now. I agree that Lomo is a bit warmer compared to Portra, but for the most part it works with what I typically shoot (portraits).
Can you make a new video about lomo 400 or 800 in studio . I have yet to see it done on UA-cam
Really enjoy this channel ive been binge watching i’m a new subscriber getting into film as well!
Really nice video! Can't wait to see more next week...just quite curious how's the skin tone rendering of lomo400 if shoot in close up portrait.
Damn. going to order a pack of that lomo! looks very nice well done
Hi mate, love to see your videos, I am a regular on it, I watch you guys in Brazil Im Portuguese I leved in London for 17 years in Whitechapel I start to do some pictures just a year ago I digital but love film very dificult to find where I am all the best and carry on filming .
Awesome videos. Truly informative. Truly inspiring.
Did you experience light leaks on the film borders / film rebate with LOMO CN films?
I always get this. I load taking care to put enough tension, my cameras had CLA and other films didnt show this problem, only LOMO CN films.
I dont know what do to... The leaks rarely get into the image, but they still bother me a lot!!
just picked up a triple pack of Lomography 400 as a first try for my 35mm eos 500 I am also running a 70d btw it will be interesting to see what results I can get
I know it's long but you should put what setting you use on each photo? Would really appreciate it
how do you colour grade your videos? i love the colours soooo much (on ur vid and film shots) and i love your film shots! I've always wanted to take film photos but im scared b/c it seem so difficult
this was a year ago! did you take any? you can do it!!!
Just buy an auto winding point and shoot and have fun!
@@albinpepe9057 omg i revisited this video and didn't know i made a comment 4yrs ago LOL wow I personally shoot film for fun now, i wanna do a video on the Nikon AF600, but no chance of shooting rn because of COVID
beautiful as always
such a sick comparison! i dont think the lomography film was quite as nice as the portra tho.
Yeah, I don't think i'd shoot it for client based work, but on occasion i'd be more than happy to shoot it
What's your workflow guys? Do you scan yourself or get the lab to do it. Insanely sharp images, made me love Portra even more!
That hasselblad tote :). Too dope
Hi have recently been recommended your youtube. Thought I would say something about the film comparison. Being a little older than you I found the Lomography film t be like the old Kodak Color Gold that was around in the 80's a good performer in most lighting conditions, the Porta I like as I prefer the paler colours that you get with it. Keep up the good work and videos.
Incredible photos!
Hey mate! Would you please make a video to talk about only cameras and lens? I love this channel and yours urban pictures, they are exactly what I'm looking for my streetphotography. Cheers!
Whats Lomo like in comparison on 35mm? I enjoyed the colours
Love love love ! the shots are amazing. I have a project to do a series of photos on a disposable camera, but i don't know which one to use, any advice ? (i want to do the kind of martin parr style)
Just wondered if you shot both of these at box speed or rated at 200?
Where did you get the hasselblad tote bag from ??
Love the videos! Make me want to really get into film! What camera do you recommend for a 'film' beginner? tx :)
Using Portra 400 for 4 or 5 years, also had 2 rolls of Lomo 400, need to say that it is good for warm light, like Golden Hour period of the day and some of "own archives", but for real production (read exhibitions, zines, photo books) there is nothing better than Portra or Velvia ( maybe Agfa Precisa sometimes )
btw, nice mood caught on photos, I like to shoot in similar way, if you have time you can check my tumblr :
which color effect luts are you using for this video is such a great color. Also if you are using a color effect for this video, does that mean pictures shown in this video do not truly represent the film's original color?
The pictures haven't been graded! The adjustment layer for the video is beneath the photos!
Guys, I have a question.
I'm really a newbie and needs help,
Why is there anything putting on something ON THE CAMERA?
whats the name of the music playing in the beginning of the video?
It'd be cool to see more about working with models, how to direct and pose etc keep up the good work!
Where'd you get the shirt from? It's clean man
The Lomography looks like it'd be a fun film with a higher color temperature (either through filters or artificial lighting).
what time of the day did you shoot
Please do a comparison between the 800 ISO versions!
Good Video, As for the Lomography Color400 that I think that it is really Kodak 400 Ultra film repackage as Lomo400 as the scenes that you photograph as the images are Medium contrast, and the colors are just right - Natural, as I use to use ALOT of 400 Ultra film, and was really upset when Kodak kill it in pushing the 400 Portra films which I found them Very FLAT.
It seems that much of the perception of Lomography film being super grainy and oversaturated comes from the way people are shooting and processing it - they're going for that lo-fi look on purpose. But it's nice to see that you can manage to get quality results when you shoot it through a pro-grade camera such as the Mamiya 6. I've recently seen some impressive results from Lomo 800 shot by a friend. The tones reminded me of Ektar. I might give some Lomo film a go as I look for a replacement for my go-to budget film, Superia X-Tra.
Perhaps as mentioned that you've shot the place a tad too many times, the photos were subpar compared to some of those in previous vids. Not much action going on too. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Damn dude, looks like this was taken 5 years ago not 2!! The hair makes you look a lot younger.
Comparing the focusing of the mamiya 7 versus a leica m rangefinder, which will focus faster and easier? - regardless of camera size.
Given they are both manual focus the question of which one will focus faster will be down to you purely. It's very much personal preference and with practice you'll no doubt be able to get focus equally as quick with both types
YOUR VIDEOS INSPIRE ME SO MUCH!
Thank you!
Always thought London was only gray but the lighting was really nice in this.
I think we just got lucky!
Stop thinking and visit.
Yaaaay, new video!
four years ago
Your work is very similar to the American photographer Stephen Shore, have you been influenced by him?
I think that we continue shoot film much years to come, besides good picture quality it gives you something that digital cannot replace
I think it has reached a point to keep it safe - like vinyl in music, film will stay in photography for a long time.
At first I felt like the lomography roll looked like it was trying to look like it had an instagram filter but then it seemed as if the colours suddenly muted and it looked a lot better? Not really sure how to explain what I mean. Lovely video as always, lads.
Have you ever shot Portra 400 at something other than box speed? I've seen some photos from a friend which he has shot rating the film at 800 or 1600 and they come out great (lower contrast, milkier shadows and more grain overall). How about pre-flashing the film? This is something I'd love to see in a future video!
If you rate Portra 400 at 800 or 1600 and develop as normal, that would be an 1 or 2 stop underexposure, respectively. If you were to develop accordingly, you'd be pushing the film and increasing the contrast. Im assuming you mean shooting Porta 400 at 200/100.
Agreed with Brendan, think you've got it it the opposite way round! I do normally shoot portra at 200 or 100, but considering this was the first time i've shot lomo i thought it might be worth comparing at box speed
where is the area of shoot place ? pls
I'm pretty sure that most Lomography color neg film is manufactured by Kodak and the slides are Agfa
You remind me of a young Steven Shore, as he shown me to shoot color, thank you...
For the price point, wouldn't lomography 400 vs. Kodak Max 400 be a fairer comparison?
never heard of that 120 Kodak Max 400
At 3:44, do you mean Lomography 400???? It says Portra 400, but I thought he was shooting the Lomo film....
Yeah my bad... It was the lomo
nice vid, cam.and pics. light seems very harsh
I got a camera strap just like that off eBay for $6. Not trying to call you out for being cheap, because the strap is great for the money, has a nice look, just curious if that's a name brand of some sort and mine is a lookalike.
The lomography doesn't look like it has practically any saturation IMO.
True, but it makes up for that in the price difference. Especially since you can correct that in photoshop
Correcting saturation in photoshop defeats part of the purpose of shooting film.
That's pretty arguable, I would disagree
what camera do you use to record your videos?
This one was with my trusty A7s
what cAMERA R U USING\
What medium format camera do you use?
he is using a Mamiya 7
I'm dying to buy a Contax t2 but I don't know where to get one other than eBay, does anyone know a good place to go?
Ebay is probably your best bet, they're really rare recently. You could try Aperture or Ffordes though
What camera are you shooting with?
Mamiya 7
I would take lots of photos from that basketball court as well
I love this channel!
This is the first video of urs I've seen and we have the same camera strap haha high five!
Where did you get your shirt!
instagram.com/BY.RORYJOHN/
This channel is amazing! I'm very new to film photography and was wondering how you would get the pictures on the film to the computer. Sorry total dweeb here haha
Mkay_ using a negative scanner such as the Epson V600.
alternatively you could get your negatives developed and then scan those too.
thankyou!
my portra 400 looks alot warmer than yours, maybe the sun beams harder on California! great stuff cheers mate!
2:17 amazing shoot!
I liked both films !
Looking at your shots on Lomography film it looks like the 120 is a lot better (or less worse) than the 135 I tried a couple of rolls from. Found it lacking hugely on dynamic range especially in the highlights, while Kodak gave me endless tonal range and tonal detail.
Like Lomography film gave a bonus crappy faulty film look even on well exposed shots in a semi-pro camera. I personally found the money saved not worth the shots lost. I use cheap Agfa-brand from a Poundsland equivalent when on a tight budget (or in a Lomography toy-camera). Even after your video (nice by the way) I still hesitate to try it out in my medium format (give Rollei CN 200 a try if you will, I like it).
In your examples I find the Kodak more 'sparkling', while the Lomography looks a bit 'muddy' to me.
