- Wally is a Tibetan mastiff that we found when we were on an adventure in China. We quite literally found him at the Great Wall and finally taking the time to tell the story start to finish on how he came to live with us here in the US.
You’ve probably seen a few of his viral videos over the past few years.

Wally was a dream to work with, and you guys are special people for saving him ❤. It was so great to meet all of you!

Like a lot of others, I watched his groom and then came here. I absolutely love watching him just melt into the floor in the most lazy boy way lol. In his cage in China, he's always standing. He was probably in so much pain that he couldn't sit. Now he can be lazy and melt into the floor as much as he wants. You're helping him be comfortable physically and mentally. Wishing you many years of joy with your fur baby 🥰

You bought a house for him, you didn’t know it at the time and yet, somehow I like to think that Wally, trapped in that horrible cage was dreaming of a family and a home and the universe said “yup, we got this for you buddy!” ❤

There re thousands of dogs in USA in USDA approved puppy mills living life in way smaller crates,and people do support it by buying pups from petstores

I’m dog CRAZY, and just knowing his rescue story and how the stars aligned for EVERYTHING Wally makes me know dogs should run the world. Knowing he and family are in Massachusetts with ME gave me the chills! I grew up in Melrose and currently live on five glorious acres in Deerfield. If you ever need a free dog sitter, I’m up for it. 🎉🎉🎉

You guys are an example to others - showing that it's never impossible to *do something* to help an animal in need. Language barrier, foreign country far away - but you didn't give up. Not on saving him, not on training him. Seeing him happy and so calm during his groom was wonderful. He behaves much more like a giant golden retriever than a feared guard dog despite what he went through which is a wonderful testament to the transforming power of unconditional,wise love. I wish all Your family the best of the best - I bet snuggling with him in heaven already ❤️

There is a saying "saving one dog may not save the world but for that one dog his world has been saved"..... You guys did that. And he's an amazing dog. Watching his groom just a few minutes ago and how calm and peaceful he was during the entire process just shows your dedication to him. Thank you, from one dog pawrent to another set of pawrents..... Ps... The bond is different and so are dogs, who are rescued. They know they were helped and show their appreciation in a different way.....

I’m not much of a dog person, but Wally would change my mind. I’ve had German shepherds most of my life until 2018 when I lost my bestest girl. She was my last, for now. My point is, I understand how delicate a double coat is for a large breed dog. While it’s hardy, it can be damaged so easily without even thinking, if someone who isn’t aware of it shaves it off. I’m glad you guys have a work around for Wally so he stays cool in the summer. So many people don’t realize that a dogs fur (double coated) keeps them warm in the winter and helps to cool them off in the summer, if it’s not damaged. Thank you for sharing him with us. Also, your video made me realize how long ago Covid came about. You guys were busy during that time. Two babies and a dog really puts the time into perspective when it feels like just yesterday we were all on lockdown and afraid. You have a beautiful family.

Just watched the Girl with the Dogs video with Wally's haircut amazing how calm he seemed through that whole process a few times with the ears he was not happy it seemed but besides that very calm.
Great story, your family and the groomer deserve great kudos for going the extra thousands of miles to provide him with his forever home. Please keep us posted on Wally's adventures and your family's amazing love for this beautiful beast. (I used beast affectionately)

How on earth did the logistics of that immediate communication/rescue happen? You basically gave them Wally’s coordinates and from the usa they figured it out? Curious.

The rescue was in China, I believe (probably Buddy's buddies since they had contributed to some flights for other dogs).

I just watched his grooming video, he's a sweetheart! I was amazed by how patient and gentle he was during the uncomfortable groom.
The "flight buddy" program is a fantastic idea! What a great way to ship dogs to the USA, Canada, or other countries! If I ever travel to China, I will definitely volunteer to fly a dog to his new home! Thank you for saving him and giving him a second chance at life! ❤❤❤

Love the story. You were able to fly dogs back with you. Rescue this dog by notifying the rescue group. Then adopted this dog and trained her. And she is wonderful with your babies. And the perfect name...Great Wall(y) of China. The best souvenir.

Aww his story makes me cry! What an amazing moment in time that you happened to see him in a cage ... Does anyone know if he was being fed while in the cage or who put him in there? I guess in China , it's probably a c'mon sight, I assume, since they as a culture don't see dogs as pets generally speaking
There is rescue in China, but it must be such a challenge.
China - as a whole- is a terrible place for dogs and cats. They treat them like rodents or food... or at best...full time security guards, but with no real love. Nearly all the Chinese people who move to the States get dogs solely as protection but put them to work like slaves, especially the big dogs. The little ones they treat like anime accessories....horrible.
I have a collie with a very thick coat. For 8 years I never shaved him, keeping him inside the house 90% of the time. He ended up with thyroid disease and pancreatitis and almost died! Please shave him! Even an air conditioned house at 70 degrees is not cool enough.

I watched this 3 times! Wally is such a majestic dog. It is truly unique how the universe had your and Wally's paths cross and that he was able to come to the States to join your family! It is a shame that his coat is damaged that even after the patron saint of dog grooming Vanessa from Girl With The Dogs tried to fix his damaged coat he is still adorable after his haircut as he is more comfortable. I saw Wally's grooming session.... I've always loved big dogs. I would mush his face EVERYDAY!!!! It's hard for cold weather dogs during the summer... I noticed that even in Alaska.... THAT 1ST SNOWFALL IS THEIR HAPPY TIME LOL😊

I'm a sucker for those storybook endings. My current dog is a Chow Chow. He is my 18th dog and my 5th
Chow Chow in my 74 years. He was 3½ when I rescued him. He was the largest Chow Chow I have ever seen. He was skin and bones at 65 lb. He was shaved like a lion because his coat was matted. Now 5 years later he's 120 lb with a mane like a lion and a full-grown out coat.
FYI: For people owning dogs with long thick hair it is important to provide the nutrients for hair growth. A supplement of cooked sweet potatoes is what is needed for a lustrous coat.

Handsome boy! Wow! And what a big floof! It must be like snuggling a big shag carpet. Haha! I'm guessing some "purists" got cranky about shaving the poor guy. I'd ignore all that noise. What's important is Wally's health and comfort.

Ohhhhh, he is good with the babies. I am so happy to hear that. And so big. Wow! What does he eat? I adopted an older Pomeranian who was emaciated, just skin and bones with a little bit of hair. She weighed 7lbs. Now, she is a walking woolly Mammoth, fluffy and happy and weighs 12lbs. Love her so much. Dogs bring so much love to the home.
I had a 135lb wolf hybrid who had a mane and was gorgeous but every summer we would have to shear him. Some vets say no but if you see your dog suffering with the heat you shear them. He's gorgeous! Now if we can just stop the dog meat trade and the Yu Linn festival in China in would be miraculous!!

Thanks for saving massive Wally, a much greater challenge in a country like China, where animal abuse is institutionalized and dog-meat markets are common. Most dogs' hair coats benefit from a shave now and then.
So sweet. People that abuse animals should be locked up and put through the same abuse they put the animal through. Animals should be loved. Period
I just watched the grooming video! I'm so glad that you've got someone in your corner to help get Wally's coat to hopefully grow back to normal. I also can't believe you guys only live about an hour away from me- so it's like a local legend, living so nearby! I'm so glad you've saved him, and that he gets to live like a king for the rest of his life!

I’m so glad that you have Wally in your lives! We have a rescue African mastiff who also was impacted a lot by Covid shutdowns. (She had just started being able to meet other dogs successfully, and then everything shit down, and now she’s just a cranky senior who adores the humans she spent time with during the pandemic, but wants everyone else to go away.) I think she and Wally would probably be kindred souls!
Wally is so handsome and he was such a good boy when he was being groomed. Unbelievable amount of fur....I wonder if it was discarded? A blanket could be made of it. I thought it was gorgeous.

We've also rescued a tibetan mastiff in terrible conditions two months ago. He was found in a storage building with a german shepard near Seville in Spain where he was used to guard the place but treated poorly. He belonged to a chinese citizen, what makes us think he was brought from China, since there are virtualy no tibetan mastiffs in Spain. We had to do surgery of a huge mass, but it was benign We are still working in his rehab of muscles and joints, his hair was also had to be cut but growing great. You can see him in our channel, it's mostly videos of our ferret, but have some of him
Average cost of Chinese Tibetan Mastiff- anywhere from $2,000-$12,000. Rescuing one without that price tag and being able to bring him home to become a part of the family- priceless.

I just found Wally after seeing his grooming video. Very nice of you to rescue Wally (and it looks like another dog) with use of the flight option. He looks like a great fit for your family and definitely a gentle giant for your kids.

You need to know that mastiffs are sometimes vere dangerous. Don't leave you'r children with him alone.
