Gotti with Armand Assante is classic. He talks like John, he has that presence too. And I think everyone for the most part hit the nail on the head with their character portrayal from what I've heard and read over the years. Travolta just went for the cliche gangster stereotype. I honestly got all I needed from the previews of the film. Gotti with Assante is epic albeit on the low budget side. Travolta's film, God bless him, was a missed opportunity.

Compare and contrast to Mr. Gambino. The man who said, "Put a shade on it" about adultery. The man who lived modestly. The man who insisted not to bring any heat onto anyone. The man who enlisted his own wife to soften up visitors with hospitality, home made treats and kindness?
I think that the rot began with Paul Castellano. Cuckholding his wife with a housemaid. There is something imperious and selfish about such an act. The idea that Paul demanded so much, that he "ate alone".
Mr. Gotti should have shown respect... and been discrete. Nobody has a "public".

Put a ton of money into investigating anyone & soon enough they will fall. All you have to do is make one mistake. What you don't hear about is how long it took the FEDS to get him on tape. Movies & docs make it seem like it took a week. Listen to the Sammy the Bull podcast & you will hear the fed say how long it took.
Also, it's funny how Gravano talks smack about Gotti's mouth when it was Sammy's mouth that got him busted for drugs in Arizona several years later & got him a 23-year sentence.

Interested to see what he says, because I watched the Gotti movie with travolta. It was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

I’ve seen far worse in my decades as a movie buff. And as Michael says, some of the father/son scenes were decent. But yeah, it was def cursed from the get-go by financing, production & distribution issues, and later by Travolta’s flat-ish, “forced” performance.
You get the feeling while watching it that the director and producers tried to make the end product seem raw/gritty (handheld cameras, muted ‘70s-style colors, etc) - which can give a low-budget film a certain authenticity that larger productions sometimes lack. But instead, it mostly came off as just cheap, if not borderline amateurish.

Hello Michael. I'm a new subscriber to your show. I like your video content and to be honest I started watching your shows is because I've heard your name in a documentary series. I literally watched a bunch of Italian mafia documentaries talking about lucky Luciano and carlo Gambino. Then the first video I seen of yours your literally talking about lucky Luciano, keep up the good work in your videos and educating us on what the mafia is about

HBO’s Gotti has been one of my favorite mob movies ever since I first saw it. William Forsythe signed my copy of the DVD with “To Cor, best from Sammy”. Great guy, classic film!

Travolta's best movie in my opinion is Pulp Fiction. That said, would Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs count for a Mob Movie Monday?

Hi Michael, I’ve been following you for a about 2 months, I’m very convinced you’re a man of your word, I respect that, that dialogue “It’s the man that does honor to the title.” I too thought that was deep. Maybe I should write it on my higher ups foreheads so when they brush their teeth they see it, Keep up the good work. Thanks

I always loved the opening scene of the first Gotti movie. "It's all about Parameters". And the way it ended, the same speech is said again.

Fun fact ** That's where Michael got it wrong about the HBO Gotti previously, he said that in the opening scene John was talking to himself, but later in the movie it shows the continuation of that story, and he was actually talking to Frankie Luchese in their cell. It just doesn't show Frankie in the opening scene, so it appears as though John is talking to himself, whereas if you look closely its actually a continuation of the same conversation in the first scene, except in the final scene it shows Frankie replying to what John is saying.

Hi Michael. Please do a vid on how members get their nicknames if you haven’t covered that already. Also would be curious to hear how active/in control you still believe the mob is. Great channel and thanks for sharing.

Watched Gotti 1996 last week. Awesome watch. BRILLIANT performances by many involved but Assante and Quinn were terrific. Think I give Travoltas one a big miss.
