Great review. Owning both phones I have my criticisms of them. AI is something I won't use all that often, especially with pictures. I like to keep my pictures as real as possible without resizing or moving it. It is just being dishonest with yourself. There are features that I wish they all have. As a mainly Samsung user, I wish they would copy the Pixel voice to text features. That is the best features that I used the most. It allows me to touch the voice keyboard on my Gboard and it transform my voice into text accurately most of the time. If I need to correct something, I can just command to correct it. I know all android has that features but the pixel takes it to another level. Also I still rather Pixel "still pictures" better than Samsung. If Samsung can have the same voice to text and pixel quality still camera, then that would be my perfect phone. The pixel on the other hand needs to have the same hardware like Samsung. Better battery life, better modem, better charging speed.
I share your sentiment completely. As a matter of fact, I just typed this whole comment via dictation. Nothing beats that, and the Pixel is the only phone that serves that purpose excellently as you noted. The hardware limitations can be frustrating but the software features are too good to pass on.
Is the pixel battery still good tho or is there a very big difference between the two phones
Ya and I wish the pixel didn't get so hot all the time. Never had that problem with my note 9

Screening calls trumps anything the s24 ultra can do. Scammers haven't bothered me since I got the pixel 8 pro. They are scared of talking to the A.I. if Samsung do it I'll be back
Totally agreed! Went from Samsung to OnePlus to Pixel and that screen calling is by far enough for me stay quite honestly.
I was in the exact same boat, loved the Pixels for call screening. My S23 Ultra does have a version of call screening that works quite well. Bixby Text Call, I believe it was released with OneUI 6.0. It's very similar in functionality but does not auto screen calls known as Spam like Google's. It's similar enough that I do not miss my pixel so much anymore.
Never had an issue with scammers calling me. It just doesn't happen. Not sure why so many others do.

You can Screen calls on Samsung with Bixby call screening idk why reviewers don't mention this it's as good as Google's one

But how good is it at being a phone. I travel the highways, mostly in the barren West, for my job. I've got an old LG V60 that gets a better signal than my new Pixel.
0:13 The display actually sucks now. They watered down the colors now so they look washed out and dull. The S22 and s23 ultra has a much more vibrant, rich, and saturated color palette. This is actually a downgrade. You likely don't notice it because you're not coming from a past galaxy phone.

I'm not sure why very few tech reviewers talked about this, but Samsung also has a call screening feature named Bixby Text call. I use it literally daily on my S23 Ultra.
I was just wondering if this existed this morning. My S24 comes next week!

I kneow the 24 is the new thing now...but hinestly i would rather for the 23ultra if you can see it for cheaper. The 24U is essentially the same phone as the 23 except with the screen and mid AI capabilites. But great review nonetheless!

I'm very proud of pixel, remember we just started hitting from pixel 6 and now pixel is going ties with those giants, also note that we get frequent app updates so those AI features will roll out eventually

You can buy almost 2 pixel 8 pros for one galaxy s24 ultra. I will stick with the P8P.
Happy Friday Jacklyn! It definitely looks like the S24 Ultra offers more utility for power users versus the Pixel, but I think for the average user, they’re pretty neck and neck!
Tip for you, go to developer settings and put the animation to 0.5x you will see an improvement in navigation speed.

They barely have better hardware and it came out half a year later. Google will update it's phones for 8 years. I had many galaxy phones and everyone else I know that did prefer the switch to pixel. OS is so much better. @@jasonszsilva3489

If you own the pixel 8 pro don't switch,it will last years :) if you don't have a budget 24 ultra, if you do go for the pixel

3:20 Samsung has something similar using "Bixby"😬, haven't been able to test it much as when the other party hears the automated voice they just hang up
thanks Miss, a quick and effective review. I am a long time Samsung flaghsip phones owner, and decided to have the Pixel 8 Pro as my next phone. I've had it a few weeks and I like it enough but not so much I'd keep it until no longer supported. Then the S24 Ultra was released and I am in love again. Especially since it now offers the same AI utilities as the Google one. I think I will be waiting a few months for its price to come down, and switch back to this Samsung phone....

Yeah, I was confused about that because it was reported that both Pixels and S24 would have the circle search feature and just today it was released on both.
samsung really needs to figure out what the hell is going on with that terrible jittery looking scrolling. you're the only youtuber that even noticed that something was off about the smooothness of the s24ultra. good video !

Google should just swap the Thermometer to a LiDAR Sensor instead.
I have both an iPhone 15 pro max and the S24 ultra, and the ultra’s camera is absolutely horrendous indoors and in low light. Photos lack detail, skin tones look unnatural and the exposure is always off. Not to mention the daylight shots where it oversaturates the colours like crazy. At the moment, nothing comes close to the iPhone.
It’s probably the overall best camera.
Pixel also has live translate and will have circle to search in a few days.

What's the Screen On Time you getting and how's network receptivity on S24Ultra?
@prashantn687 I get great network almost everywhere, except canyons and valleys. I live in AZ, so there's definitely some dead zones when I travel, but my signals usually drops after everyone elses' already has. As for battery, I usually get around 14 or so hours and like 7-8 screen on time. I've gotten 9-10 hours screen on time before and around 21 hours of total battery. I even had 18% left over.
I would suggest charging it before you sleep and letting it stay off the charger at night. The standby drain is very minimal, and the performance and battery life really shine this way.
Sorry to hear you switched. The Pixel devices are better than Samsung. I was a long time Samsung lover and tried a 6a out after cracking my S22u screen. I quickly switched to a Pixel 8 now and haven't looked back. Better battery life and more features.
Excellent content once again. I'm a huge fan of stock android and pixel phones, once owning a 7 pro. I'm loving the S24 ultra though. Samsung customisation is also so cool, you can really tailor the phone to your needs, the aesthetics especially. You nailed this one, comparison and features articulated really well. These real 'day in the life' style blogs that are also informative and fun, are a great format. I look forward to the next one.

I have 8 Pro, great pics but find they come out dark & need to edit most, but the HDR is really good. I have the S24 Ultra arriving on Wednesday I hope I'm not going to be disappointed with the camera as many are saying its not great! I'm looking forward to trying the Expert Raw.... ❤

I always have / had the latest Samsung and Pixel phones. There's never been a time where I like the Samsung photo better. Personal preference of course

Found me a P8P pre-owned in mint condition at $650. I was thinking about "upgrading" to the S24U but thanks to these videos now I see that S24U at best only has minor marginal benefits over the P8P. The Pixel even has the S24U beat at some areas, like main camera, and if I am paying twice the price I would want the phone to be unequivocally better but there is no way that the S24U is twice the phone than the P8P. Keeping the Pixel and my money. Btw, Pixels go on sale for $800 very often.
The sim tray hole is right next to the mic on the Ultra 24. Its easy to accidentally stick the sim tray opener into the mic. I expect there will be a lot of damaged mic's. Its a strange design choice by Samsung.
Yes. Probably why the phone ships with a screen protector containing print of an "X" for mic hole, and sim tool icon for sim tray opener.
I have seen another video where the reviewer tested this. The mic hole becomes more narrow towards the inner part so the Sim tray opener or pins will not fit through and cannot physically touch the mic. So the mic will not get damaged.
The pixel is an amazing phone. I have the pixel 7 pro- however instead of going with the 8, or even waiting for the 9.. I miss having a Samsung too much and decided to go with the s24 ultra. Thank you for this comparison!
And how is a curved screen more delicate? I liked curved screens and that's one reason the S23 Ultra is staying in my pocket.
And so now a phone is irrelevant after one year? All these features can be reproduced in software.
Why not introduce all AI features in the S23 Ultra.?
I agree there different features.....and it's cool the S24 offers them.....but let's be honest here. The innovation of this comes from Google. Other than the built in S pen, which I can 100% percent verify being a Note owner of just about every single one of them, it's something that hardly ever used. Anyways back to my point, Samsung is the KING of copying. They are easily the least innovative in the industry across the board, definitely with phones, but T.V's, all there appliances. Every time some company innovates something new.. there goes Samsung reiterating what that was and using others ideas. It's a company that has never ending money and that's all it took for them to stay on top. HTC was the KING of innovation. Small company who challenged Apple from the beginning. HTC was YEARS ahead of so called flagships. Sadly they didn't have the money to hypnotize the sheep like Samsung and Apple did. So Apple and Samsung just kept stealing HTC's ideas and sunk them with there advertising. I switched to Pixel last year after Samsung quit on the Note series. Love some of these awesome features and knew Samsung would steal them. I would love to stay with Google, AI is great, camera is insanely good, but something that is super important to me they are not so good with. They are using that GARBAGE exynos chip from Samsung and calling it the Tensor, and boy does it suck compared to ANY snapdragon. Not to mention the ram management is horrible. How can you have 12 gigs of Ram and can't hold a App in the background. Well the App will be there, but not where I left off, it has to reopen and start over even though I only have 3 or 4 others in the background. Might have to check out the OnePlus 12 because of that reason alone. I hate to give up these great features, but I also hate the poor performance on the Pixel 7pro
Still pixel 8 pro still beats out my Samsung 24 ultra. I also have the iPhone 15 pro max and I haven’t used the iPhone much. I just like the pixel much better
Geez I'd love to be able to just switch but this isn't reality for the average person. We don't get phones for free and at over a grand it isn't an option. Locked in for 2 years. Oh ya.

The pixel 8 pro is great but scrolling is jittery. It's the laggiest phone I've used in a decade. Thing is everything else is so good, I don't want to throw the towel in and get a Samsung just yet.
I loved the video, but I do what to make one correction. The Pixel 8 Pro does have the Live Translation feature as well.

There's no way that any Samsung AI features will not make it on and be better on the pixel. Already got the circle to search...I also have the heated vest version of your jacket and it's awesome.

I've also noticed that 120 fps in 'pro mode' let me have more clarity, but my god, the stabilization is awful! I have an S23 Ultra and it really needs improving. But for fast moving cars, the extra frame rate comes in very handy.

I have p8p and it's nice, however I can't get rid of feeling that pixel phones are laboratories for testing google fitures which in final versions end up at competitors' flagships. Why samsung magic editor works better on s21u than p8p?

I am starting to travel a lot for pleasure this year so cameras are particularly important to me. Your coverage of the S23 Ultra, Pixel 8 Pro, and now the S24 Ultra have been fabulous. I currently have both the S23 Ultra and Pixel 8 Pro. I have to say that, while the Pixel is a great phone and camera set for the price, the S24 Ultra just feels like a more premium phone when holding. I am getting the S24 Ultra 1TB Titanium Violet phone today and cant wait to spend the weekend playing with it. Thank you so much for all you do. You rock!!
Personally i really donot like the size of S24 Ultra. They could have come with a regular size Ultra like Apple does. Instead now they have made even the basic S24 larger with the Plus model.😑😑

Another great show.... love the camera zoom comparison. Can you do a Google Pixel 8 Pro (US version) Vs a Google Pixel 8 Pro (UK or EU version). Seems to be a huge difference in features, updates and needs a bit of investigative journalism to why the US is preferred when it is a global marketplace.
From the top of my head - Pixel doesn't support ANY of the voice features outside the US (call screening, hold for me, etc).
Updates are on par, pixel drops sometimes arrive earlier or have extra touches to US markets.

Does anyone have a clicking sound on their pixel 8 pro while you shake it left and right??
I did drop mine with the a case and the phone did look and function fine but when i took it out the case and shaked it left and right i could hear a bit of light clicking sound around where the camera is. I dont know if it always have that even before i dropped it with the case or its originally supposed to be like that?

This is a very common issue with Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 8 Pro. It is the telezoom lens if im not wrong. If you shaking your phone beside your ear, you will hear a clicking sound from the lens... as I said, ALOT of ppl have this problem, including me. But if you returning it for a new one, the sound might appear again. Note, this clicking sound from the camera will not affect the phone or its features! :)
I have the 7 and looked it up. Its the little thing in the phone that tells you how your photo is balanced. Like a spirit level thing.
