    One of the best things about virtual reality is that you can hang out with people in an immersive environment, which makes it feel like you're really there with them. There are a number of VR social apps and games but which one is best?
    In this video, I compare the top VR social apps RecRoom vs. Horizon Worlds vs. Neos VR vs. VRChat vs. AltSpace. Each of these games has something unique to offer and has different demographics. For example, Neos VR is meant for VR enthusiasts who are willing to overcome the confusing UI whereas Horizon Worlds probably has the easiest UI of all these experiences and is a great starter for beginners.
    While I didn't talk about every single way that these VR metaverses compare with one another, I gave a high level overview so that you can find your niche within the VR community.

      Hi Karen! Thank you so much for your comment. Warms my heart to know people of all ages are enjoying VR and gaming. One of my favorite things about VR is that it's bridging a lot of different age groups together. Which apps and games do you play most?

  • @rainbleed8049

    Awesome video, I'm totally gonna check out some of these platforms to try new ways to enjoy VR.
    As a VRChat native, I think you got a good portion of the community when bringing up the party scene, but, honestly that doesn't scratch the surface of all the cool things I've seen and done on VRChat.
    I'd love to see a deeper dive on each of these platforms to get a better idea of what they're really like.

    • @VRwithJasmine
      @VRwithJasmine  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I totally agree. All of these platforms have a lot more to them than what I mentioned but I kept it high level. I feel like I don't have enough experience with VRChat to make a deep dive compared to others. My experience was that you get to explore all these really fun and beautiful worlds and as you hang out, like floods of people show up and you have the most random conversations. That's the part that's resonated with me most.
      Maybe in another few months or so, after I play all of these more, I can do a deep dive on each. I think each platform deserves it for sure!

      I can tell you a bit of Neos. I've been playing it a lot since I picked it up a couple weeks ago. Also a bit late, but better now then never haha
      - First of all what Jasmine said about the UI... Yes it's a mess. I will absolutely agree with that, but Once you've used it you get used to it.
      - Your first day on you are almost guaranteed to have someone who's been playing for months join your tutorial world (if you set it to open. you will get an option) and help you learn the game.
      - Skeeva is right. If you can think it you can make it in the game without leaving vr. You have access to your desktop without leaving the game. You can drag and drop models, avatars, videos, pictures, gifs you name it onto the game and simply import it like you're moving files on your pc. As long as you learn it. It is fairly difficult at first. You'll always be learning which brings me to my next point
      - You can ask anyone for help and they will help if they aren't already busy. Never be afraid to ask questions. They can even physically help you with something in real time. You don't have to be the only one stuck working on something. You can have multiple people working on one thing weather that be an avatar, a world, or some kind of prop.
      - You can send messages, Voice messages, and items though the chat in Neos. I'll also mention you can share items in a world you're in by spawning them out and have people save then vice versa.
      - Hopping worlds is very easy and seamless. Unlike VRC where you leave a world and get thrown into a void waiting to load the other you technically stay in the last world you were in. With that you can easily go back and forth between worlds without the need to load whatsoever. That can be pretty nice if you have a friend in one place and another elsewhere and have a question or just wanna say hi really quick.
      - Forgot to mention this so it might seem out of place, but you have an inventory that you save all of your props, avatars, tools, videos, pictures, and folders. They will take up space. Free users get 1GB of space. You can become a patreon to get more space. I think it's 4$ a month to get 25GB. Any item you save will take up space NOT INCLUDING PUBLIC FOLDERS. Public folder do not take up space in your inventory. It's always a good idea to see if an item you saved is in a public folder just so you can save on space
      I could go on a bit more but that's already a mouthful to read. Hopefully that helped you learn a bit more of the platform.

    Great video! I just wished you would have touched on being able to go to private instances in vrchat. I stayed away from it for so long because of all the harassment I got in it. But then when I found out you can make your own instances that only your friends could join that was a game changer. Now I meet all my altspace friends in there and we have fun every night together. I think it is an important to tell people that is an option. I heard you can do that too in rec room but haven't tried it yet.

    • @VRwithJasmine
      @VRwithJasmine  2 роки тому +2

      This is actually a really important point that I missed. I might make a follow up video on how to stay safe in VR or something and talk about this. I go into private instances all the time in VR social games especially when I need to film for UA-cam. This is a very important feature!

    I'm a Second Life veteran, I was even in a television documentary about it at the time. It's a lot like VRchat where your avatar can be anything. I've checked out a few of the human only worlds and didn't like them because they're so "vanilla" like everyone's from Pleasantville. I've recently gone back to SL (I was surprised that my account still existed from 2012) so plan to settle in VRC and SL. Funny, after getting my Quest headset I discovered that the name for young players are "Squeakers" which is a bit unkind, but I did laugh :)

    • @VRwithJasmine
      @VRwithJasmine  2 роки тому

      Haha that name is not nice but also funny 😆 VRChat is great for non-vanilla experiences. I feel like if I played Second Life, I would’ve been so sucked in. I grew up playing Maplestory instead (Korean MMORPG)

    • @matthrew
      @matthrew Рік тому +1

      The squeaker kind, is a subspecies of the human race, who devolved from the normal homo sapiens.
      Their behaviour is more resembling of a earlier evolution of our species, like homo erectus.
      The distinctive feature of the squeaker subspecies, is their high pitched voice, paired with incoherent language, which can be translated to normal human language, but it requires special training to withstand the pitch of their voice.
      The preffered enviroment of the squeaker is a social game, or a F2P of any kind, be it VR, or non VR.
      With their roots deeply planted into social and f2p games, its not uncommon to see their tendrils slowly reaching other genres, but they cant stay there for too long due to their nature of trying to be as annoying as possible, yet still sucking at video games.
      The most common habitats of squeakers include, but are not limited to:
      -Roblox
      -Recroom
      -Vrchat public servers (especially the ones on the front page)
      -many other games

    Great video. I’d love you to do a similar video on collaboration/meeting platforms. MeetInVR, Altspace, Spatial just a few that come to mind. What would be on your list?

    • @VRwithJasmine
      @VRwithJasmine  2 роки тому

      This is on my list! Will probably do it closer to September when kids are going back to school and companies are hunkering down a bit more. My list is unusual compared to yours cause I use VR games in non-traditional ways. To add to your list of MeetInVR, AltSpace, Spatial (which I'm really not a fan of Spatial), I'd add: Big Screen, Walkabout Mini Golf, Neos VR (but more for engineers and hardcore techie types rather than causal), Noda, Horizon Workrooms... probably more but those are off the top of my head.

    great video but one problem that you did not mention that you don't have to be a human in NeosVR you can be anything you want including a hotdog
    I play Neos actively every single day and I don't think you described Neos accurately enough yes you got the basic description down but I do feel like you could have went into
    more detail about the
    1: the visual coding
    2: being able to spawn items out of your inventory
    3: you can also copy an image and paste it into the game
    4: you can also import 3D models and show them off too your friends
    5: you can spawn any video by copying the URL and pasting it into the game window you can do Facebook, Twitter, Discord, UA-cam and probably more
    6: Fully featured Desktop mode First person mode - interact from the viewpoint of your character! Any tools, gadgets and guns are automatically posed and fully usable
    Third person mode - want to see your avatar when you socialize or build? This mode is ideal for you and all the interactions still work!
    Freeform Camera mode - decouple the view from your character completely and move it freely around - ideal for building worlds in desktop
    UI Aligned Camera mode - click on any in-world UI to align it with your screen and free your mouse cursor to make the interaction much easier
    Toggle between Desktop and VR - no restart needed! If you play both in VR and desktop, you can toggle between each with a press of a key[/list]

      I definitely need to do a deep dive video on Neos! I didn’t want the video to be too long so I didn’t go into as many details as I could’ve. I was hoping “do anything you want and anything you can imagine” along with “as close to ready player one as we can get” would’ve covered it. Neos doesn’t get enough love for how far ahead of it’s time it is. Will definitely be making a more detailed video on it ❤️

      Not yet. I've heard about it and looked into it about a year ago. The team and what they want to do seems promising but from what I've read, the community just isn't actually hanging out on the VR platform itself. I'll need to take a look to see for myself though. Do you spend much time in there?

    • @KeyAndrew
      @KeyAndrew 2 роки тому +1

      @@VRwithJasmine it's a bit of a ghost town and I haven't been there in a while but they have a unique feature in that the main world is one giant seamless location with tons of land owned by different people similar to the mainland in Second Life. Honesty I've been in Second Life since 2008 and I visit VR worlds often but I always come back to SL... There is a VR mod for Second Life as well that I use but its pretty janky. I used to be very excited about Samsar and Somnium Space but not anymore. I do spend time in VR Chat and Neos sometimes.

    • @VRwithJasmine
      @VRwithJasmine  2 роки тому +1

      @@KeyAndrew I never played Second Life but I know about it. I grew up playing Maplestory which is obviously different but the elements of being able to log on, have your social friends, do things together, customize your avatar and essentially have an entirely different life and identity online is similar.
      I think what's missing with all these crypto-based metaverses (excluding Neos for obvious reasons) is that they were built with a focus on money rather than community. That's why the worlds are empty. I think the closest thing to SL is probably VRChat.
