    400ml hot water
    The following links support the channel!
    Petri dishes: amzn.to/2Xgvauu
    Inoculation loops: amzn.to/3CcX1uB
    Xacto Knife: amzn.to/3ltxYwv
    Premixed MEA powder (not recommended but for the lazy): amzn.to/3AbcTNF
    To make your own mix:
    Light Malt Extract: amzn.to/3k9ao8Q
    Agar Agar Powder: amzn.to/3AdiJ14
    Lighters for flame sterilization: amzn.to/397qmu8
    Good value blender

    Large pressure cooker (great value and good reviews):
    amzn.to/2Fsbfgr
    or smaller one: amzn.to/399EX8n
    Kitchen Scale (great reviews, inexpensive)
    amzn.to/2BobRP0
    Large plastic funnel with strainer insert: amzn.to/2RDBzeQ
    Optional parafilm: amzn.to/3CcZhC9
    But ziplock bags work fine: amzn.to/3lp70Go
    Optional stuff only if making PDA or black agar:
    Honey: amzn.to/3k880zm
    Activated Carbon: amzn.to/3EkTufx

      This is amazing, thank you so much. I'm new to this side of things and I REALLY want to get into it further (beyond just reading) but I'm having trouble getting spores since I dont have a credit/debit card at the moment.
      I followed you here, sent a request on facebook and followed you on patreon (although I dont have the ability to become a patron just yet). I also plan on following your twitter if I can gain access back from whoever hacked it in the middle east.
      Anyway, this was very helpful and I was wondering if there was any chance of being able to get a spore print/ spore syringe from you?

      And folks…. You have to be at least a paid subber- which isn’t much to ask- to message and to receive the print, which also- isn’t very much to ask!! Considering all things! It costs him money and time to even create all these super amazing, informative vids, for his own self- so, it’s the least we can do to support him and his channel and work!! To help keep him and his brilliant work going, and able to be shared!! ❤ thanks for all you do! It means the world to me, that I do know for sure! Cause it’s content like yours, that’s literally built and shaped and created myself into the new myco lover I’ve become, transformed my own work in the hobby and community that I’ve now been working on, etc- all thanks to vids and content and knowledge sharing, such as yours!! So much appreciated Gordo!! Thanks for everything and I pray you’re able to always keep going and continue to share all of your advice, experience, years of wisdom and, vast amounts of incredible knowledge! Mush love friend ✌🏻🍄🫂💫💕

    Gordo. Thank you for your work. Please dont be disheartened by youtube. Your video was how i started when my brother donated his BRF jars to me a number of years ago. I went on to find your videos after reading some books. Ive been highly interested in mycelium ever since and have even had a few successes trying to grow my own. There are a few players on yiutube who do an absolutely marvellous job of educating people of mushroom growing but to me you are without a doubt the real veteran when it comes to teaching. Please keep it coming and take a bow.

    A little add on tip to this great video. If your town or city has a homebrew shop. They have many useful things for mycology. I homebrew and turned out I had everything but a pressure cooker and the agar already. Malt extract and yeast nutrients (dead yeast) as well as Erlenmeyer flasks. I was doing things like growing yeast cultures from bottled beer and such, many years before I got into mycology itself. It was a great knowledge base to have starting this hobby. Yeast is after all, a form of fungus.

Even the way you try to do a less annoying, more tolerable and less "h***cidal thought inducing" version of that super "pausy," inexplicable emphasis at the end of choppy sentences with what I picture would be ending a sentence with a '.' The idea is that it should be easier to see the white mycelium on top of a black background, but it didn't seem particularly useful to me, so why add the extra time and expense to make it? At some point I decided I wanted to try a few more things before releasing the vid, which I did, that involved a lot more filming and I have a ridiculous mountain of footage to edit, but I've worked it all out and I'm very satisfied with it. I even have some very cool time lapse video, info on how to grow in a cold space during winter vs. in a hot room in Summer, etc. My goal is to have it published before the end of October. I will point out however that a very detailed write up of the TEK is already published on the patron page and it contains pretty much everything you need to know, I have updated it numerous times and refined it based on feedback and further experimentation. Many people have followed the TEK and nearly everyone who contacted me reported success including some who had never befoe grown any mushroom in their lives. There has also been nearly universal agreement that the species/strain was the best mushrooms they had ever experienced.

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  Рік тому

      I compare them all in this vid, LME just produces the best growth with mushrooms (pretty much every species). You can also add a pinch of aged manure when working with dung lover species and that seems to speed growth a little too. But you can use the other recipes if you want, they will usually still get the job done.

      Probably true, at least for the initial growth. I've never tried making it completely air tight, that would be a nice experiment. It might still grow, but perhaps a bit slower? You'd want to try it side by side with another that was not air tight to compare.

    Does mycelial growth stay within the agar, or grow on top as well? Does it also reache upwards towards the top of the plate as well?

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  9 місяців тому

      It will mostly stay on top of the agar, it can sometimes reach upward or try to get out of the plate depending on how aggressive the species is (Natalensis for example is quite aggressive, so is oyster mycelium).

    Is there a good video out there that explains all the different reasons you would use agar plates for mycology?

    • @gordotek
      @gordotek  Рік тому

      No sure, but basically your options are agar or spore syringe. Agar allows you to get some strain isolation and clean up the spores in case there is any contamination present. Spore syringe is faster but any contams in with the original spores are going to go right into your grain so you better hope the spores were super clean, and there is no strain isolation so many different genetics will all be competing against each other which can sometimes cause less predictable results.

    Sad that UA-cam (google, aka Alphabet inc.) is an American company and makes revenue from American taxpayers yet they do not hold American basic constitutional values. If you're doing business in America and making money from Americans I should be required to hold the most basic of American values. Other countries don't let companies do business inside their borders with our values so why do we put up with it... (Maybe because our laws are bought thru lobbiests....) I digress, thank you for content. I appreciate it.

    • @WalkerBetweenWorlds
      @WalkerBetweenWorlds 2 місяці тому

      This is what advertisers want. If advertisers would stop concerning themselves about the content in videos that their ads may show up in, there would be no problem. UA-cam is a business and wants to make money. I resent the censorship more than UA-cam will let me say, but the bottom line is, the same corporations who are shoving their values and politics down your throat are the same ones pressuring places like UA-cam to muzzle us.

      They usually only take about 15 to 20 minutes to cool but leaving them in the laminar flow can also remove condensation from the lids which is good.

If you’re not a paid follower/subber… you can’t message, comment and interact, or get the print due to not being able to correspond. Just to clear that up for everyone else too as well…
    However though y’all!!!- with that said… it’s the least we can do! It’s not much to ask! It costs him money and time to do all of this for us too so… let’s everyone support the channel and content and keep this beautiful thing goin!! Xo- mush love friends! 🍄🫂💯♾️💕💫🖤🌻🫶🏻🖖🏻

      Scroll down and click the Follow button directly under the creator’s membership offerings. When the bottom reads Following, it means you’ve successfully followed the page.
      We’ll redirect you to the creator’s membership tiers page where you can become a paying patron if you’d like. If you’re not ready to join, you can exit the page." You can either use their app or their website.
