    You can also use a spore syringe to start your liquid culture.

    Is it important to specifically use wide mouth mason jars?

      You can use any jar but I like to use wide mouth jars because it can be easier to extract the LC.

    Thanks for this wonderful video, I watching Nigeria.
    However, if I can understand you very well, it mean with LC I didn't need any grain.
    While hope to hear from you.
    Best regards.

      Yes liquid culture can be used for many purposes. I mainly use it to inoculate grain spawn. You can also use it inoculate more liquid culture, agar plates, slants, etc.

    I note that your "grain" substrate was something I've never seen before... what type of substrate did you use in the bags?

      Grain spawn is super common in mushroom cultivation. The grain I used for this video was millet.

    I wanted to try this but unfortunately my instant pot only goes to 10 or 11 psi.

    How many liters or jars we can make for the 2nd generation liquid spawn from this one bottle of liquid culture?

    • @MotherMycelium
      @MotherMycelium  4 місяці тому +1

      You could inoculate 500ml jars with about 5-10ml (or as little as 1ml depending on how much you want to make) so that would make 25-50 liters. 500ml of 1st generation culture will give you 100 5ml inoculations (100x5ml = 500ml).
      If you use 5ml to inoculate 500ml of fresh LC that's 50000ml or 50 liters (100x500ml = 50000ml). You can stretch it even more than that if you're really trying to expand it a lot.

      Yes, this works for any variety of mushroom. You just have to make sure it is not contamianted and it will last for a very long time. Some varities store better in the fridge, others do just fine at room temperature. Thanks for watching!

    Please what is starter culture

    • @MotherMycelium
      @MotherMycelium  2 місяці тому +1

      The easiest form of starter culture to use is liquid culture. You can easily find these online. You can also use plate cultures, grain spawn, and more to inoculate liquid culture.

    Does pressure cooker necessary

    • @MotherMycelium
      @MotherMycelium  Місяць тому

      For liquid culture I would recommend a pressure cooker. You may be able to get away with just sterilizing it in a pot or even a microwave but you will increase the chance of contamination.

    No need to use LME? Or peptone?

    • @MotherMycelium
      @MotherMycelium  Місяць тому +1

      The recipe shown here uses honey instead of LME and no peptone or any other additives. Peptone is not necessary but if you have it on hand it is a great addition.

    How long can keep liquid culture? Temperature for keeping liquid culture? Thank you

    • @MotherMycelium
      @MotherMycelium  3 місяці тому +1

      I typically recommend using LC in about 6 months. You can store most varieties at about 40 degrees. Some strains, like pink oyster (pleurotus djamor), will not tolerate refrigerator and should be stored at room temperature.
      I have used some very old liquid culture (4 years+) and it was still viable so they can last a long time.
