I actually own the original artwork for the third to last page of Aliens Salvation -- the one with 'Amen' and then an explosion. I bought it directly from Mike Mignola at New York City Comic Con at the Jacob Javitts Center in 1996 or 1997. Can't believe I picked it up for a little over a hundred dollars. (I also picked up an original page of Arthur Adams's work on the Dark Horse Godzilla Special, too... for a about the same price!) It's a little surreal knowing I own a single, unique piece that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world. Anyway, great walk-through, as always! Thank you!
You guys should check out the Clayface story from Batman Villains Secret Files 2005. Drawn by Mignola in the '80s so it's still his pre-Hellboy style, but inked by Nowlan in the early 2000s. Great mix of both their styles.
@@benthehumaniac Absolutely. Vol 2 has stories by John Byrne, Peter Milligan, John Arcudi, Dave/Mignola... They're collecting everything Alien-specific DH published from start to 2016 in 4 books. Omnibus size, comprehensive, and the talent is properly credited. I'm a fan of it.
I remember seeing the ads for this in Wizard, passed on it thinking this was just more movie tie-ins (i think Alien 3 dropped around 1993 too), but man that Mignola art. I love how he keeps calling back to that swirl design, even the alien queen splash page recalls that swirl with all those dead chestburster host bodies trailing out.
I got the Alien omnie's and I do not regret it. Some stories are so awesome to read also the art looks sick. Some the best stories I find was Labyrinth and Dead orbit and ofcourse this one as well. Awesome channel by the way. Found it while searching for the Shaolin Cowboy.
A very sharp one shot, guys! Damn straight about Dave Gibbons writing! Steve Rude told me that he really enjoyed and was probably the hardest thing he worked on (up to that point)! Mignola style always speaks for itself and Kevin Nowlan’s diversity across his career is a beautiful thing! His inks on Jon Bogdanove on Chuck Dixon’s Superman/New Gods/Aliens 4 issue series definitely comes to mind! This is a great one and done story! Thanks again n keep reading and making comix!
Wow, I dont think I've ever seen this one. When the Alien comics were hitting regular circulation, I'd read it, I'd like it, but it soon turned me away because the result would always be the same, IMO.I was a tweener mind you, LOL!
One of my favorites!!! There were rumors of a new alien movie being developed the other day and I specifically named dropped this title as the perfect story to tell in a one off, small budget aliens movie.
I forgot about this book and I'm a HUGE Mignola fan. Thanks for this review! If you can check out his early Fahred and The Grey Mouser Dark Horse work.
I clicked on this so fast! I'm so excited I'm going to comment before I watch the video. This is for sure my favourite of the old Dark Horse "Aliens" comics. Not only does it do something that I always like to see, and that's using these creatures for a kind of catalyst to tell a human story (like the movie "Train to Busan" did with zombies), but it's gorgeous. EDIT: While I do love this one (it's one of the ones that stands out in my mind after 30 years), this isn't my favourite. I think I had the title confused with "Sacrifice", written by Peter Milligan with art by Paul Johnson. But now I'm feeling the urge to dive into more long boxes and check, and I'm still not done going through my Heavy Metal collection, you bastards!
Thought this would be hard to find since Dark Horse lost the license, turns out Marvel released them all again digitally, only £1.50 on Comixology. Take that Kayfabe effect 😂
It's so interesting to see some of that early Hellboy design work appear in here! Also, much like everyone else - never seen this before but will be for sure hunting for it now!

I'm 48 and I still have the 18" big chap Alien figure! I got it when I was 5 along with a 12" Darth Vader for Christmas. They had epic battles!
what a treasure! the panels from this comic are ingrained in my brain from childhood, it really speaks to the design language of mignola.
"... It's that less is more, and I never feel cheated" -
Plenty of gold nuggets on this channel. Thank you.
Thank god I have you two in my life !!!!!!!!

It's always a cool feeling when I already have one the gems you guys showcase :) and I have the hardcover edition!
I was OBSESSED with this comic growing up. So happy seeing this pop up in my feed haven’t thought of this masterpiece in years.
Saw this a year ago and saw it again. I sure do enjoy you guys doing Mignola comics.
Just recently got my Aliens vol 2 omnibus in. It's like you made this just for me. 🤟
I was thinking about getting that. Do you recommend it? Any other particularly cool stuff in there?

This would still be a great movie.

This was actually the first Aliens comic I read. Guess I picked the right one.
Man, I hope they reprint this guy because I cannot afford to drop a week’s rent on it 😂
Oh yeah this is one of the best Alien comics.
Damn, I had this in my Amazon cart at $22 for a month, that one sold out and they're all $90 at 6pm the day this came out
Thank you for this! I love this comic so much.
Possibly my favorite licensed book of all time, I read this in the early '90s alongside Bram Stoker's Dracula and became a Mignola fan for life.
One of my favorites!!! There were rumors of a new alien movie being developed the other day and I specifically named dropped this title as the perfect story to tell in a one off, small budget aliens movie.

Wow that really is the GOAT

oh hell yeah, I just bought this. ahead of the Kayfabe effect for once

The name of character, Selkirk is the name of the "real" Robinson Crusoé by the way!
After Gibbons and Mignola, any chance of something on Mick McMahon?
I'd love to see some John McCrea too.
Ed always has interesting things to say that never seemed to be acknowledged. Hate seeing that be a trend in these videos. 🤦🏽♂️
