@12:50 this is a great point about her damage. I played her a fair amount on release but what I think I prefer about Bap, Kiriko, and certain other characters is the speed they shoot. It's exactly the key as to why Illari is not op. The charge rate makes it extremely difficult to finish the kills even to those with exceptional mechanics. Good observation james.
This is true on paper, or if we're talking about pure headshot DPS on a point-blank target, but this isn't a realistic comparison at all. In that case, I'd take the hitscan any day. Bap has higher potential DPS as well, but one has to land every shot in the burst for this to be true (and a single Bap 3x shot burst = 1 charged Illari shot). Again, it's much easier to land a single Illari headshot at any range than it is to land every Bap 3x burst headshot. In short, Illari's potential DPS is lower than other supports, but her very reliable 112.5 headshot burst damage is why she stands out so much.

Illari only deals less when entering her falloff range.
Exactly. He nails it with such a perfect explanation. 4:24 You need to understand that as a support you shouldn't be haveing 12K heals with only 2K dmg. That's not as helpful as you think it is. It just mean's your team dies less often, not the enemy team is dead more often, the latter wins games. People flame me for my Dmg numbers as Moira in Bronze, even though I usually have just as much healing as my Mercy/Ana. They legit can't understand that I'm doing her job, her ability to 1v2 with ease is her utility, I pull attention away from the rest of my team so they can 4v3. Yet they still sometimes loose anyway. It doesn't matter if people don't like that about her, that's how she's to be played, just like Lucio.
Yea someone complained at me (gold 1) the other day for “dps Moira”. Another in the same game complained that I was “pocketing tank too much” lol I had the second highest healing in the lobby and dmg around my dps numbers.
Especially in Moiras case when you actually need to dps in order to refill your healing meter lol. Especially since she provides no utility, just healing
1:30:28 Actually thanks to your advice i was able to get from bronze 5 up to silver 5 within a day's session, after that i went on trying different roles and landed all three on silver with my highest being silver 1 on tank despite being the role i play the least, and i'm sure that by the end of the year i'll be able to reach diamond, thanks for everything and keep up with the good work
if you are ever planning to play illari again here are some tips Headshot + bodyshot + lowest charge shot will be enough to kill 200 hp targets To get maximum height: Dont hold down any movement imputs, jump on the spot, at the apex of your jump you hold shift and then after that you can use a movement imput
@@NEDinACTION that is literally not what you said you denied that jumping would give you extra height which is completely proposterous and now you change what you are saying to "uhm actually you dont need to stand still" when I specifically stated that this was to get maximum height and standing still and using the ability at the apex of your jump will give you the most height.
If you know where the portrait is, you can start clicking on the char select screen before it fully loads. Helps if you're running OW on an NVMe drive with fast internet as well.
You literally see this man improve on the hero all throughout the video optimizing little things and learn what he did wrong immediately this level of adaptability is insane
that Sombra at 5:04:10 complaining about heals as she stands as far away from the pylon as possible and raging at you the whole game for not healing her kills me lmao why do people act like this
This happened to me when a teammate as Echo was spamming " I need healing" flying far away from me ( I was standing on point on with other teammates cuz we were capping it) I literally tried to heal her but my healing beam didn't have enough reach, I was looking straight at her and her straight at me and she still kept SPAMMING THE BUTTON as she couldn't see I was literally trying to heal her but couldn't 🤥 instead of coming near me she didn't so I eventually shot her back to see if she understood and then I turned away lmao. I hate pharahs/echo who don't understand they can't ask a Baptiste, Moira or Illari for healing as they fly away... Unless you get close to my pylon or myself it's not going to happen...

Thank you for being one of the only people out there that understands this shit. Makes me feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one that goes by this logic, and the countless of times i've been creating opportunities for my bot teammates only for them not to take advantage of it and instead result in just pointless deaths that should have got us team kills if they had higher iqs.
I've never played healer in OW (and only been playing comp for 2 months) I saw this and thought I'd try Illari. Your advice is stellar. 25hrs in with her and I'm mid plat and climbing solidly with 70% ish win rate. Funny how simple it is. Just have to ignore the team whining about heals and do damage.

i really want to see you play sigma. "finding damage" would be really fun to see with a hero that can shoot around corners, and it would be interesting to see how your aim is with heroes who get close to you
I’ve been wondering, what are the specifics of those accounts you use for those runs? Because from what I gather the quick play win rates will be taken into account for your first placement matches. For instance, I played on a fresh account where I did my quick play wins myself ending up with a ~80% win rate on bap and eventually going 5-1 on my initial placements - this put me in Master 1 being higher ranked than 73% of my division (so 3973sr I assume). After one more update I already reached GM. Do you purposely use accounts with subpar unranked win rates to make it more of a challenge?
Hey Awkward just wanted to mention your teachings allowed me to climb from gold to diamond in dps, just by implementing your basic fundamentals of off angle, cover, damage before the fight, they go back we go forwards etc. If anyone is questioning these teaching's i say try implement his teaching's in your own games to see a difference. also id like to mention my aim is not the best but in most cases staying alive or off angling provides so much more value than trying to burst down supports etc from a forward angle. Anyways thanks so much awkward you da goat.
I'm usually the Ana that stays on the backline, keep my team topped up while peeling for them, looking for any opportunity to deal damage. A very selfless act, but this has lost me more games than I can count. Many needs a support that can take off angles or flank; Illari is the support to go when DPS are cowards. But, when I pick Illari I still carry some of that backline habit when I could just play her like Moira, very aggressive, fearless playstyle. I'll try my best to repeat your mantra in my head. :)
@@woke2646 Yes and no. I have lost several plat games on Ana, even though I've played her in GM+ confidently since season 12 OW1. Some games are simply just not winnable by your own meritm at least in my experience (I'm a bit washed in fairness, but better than plat players for sure as I placed Masters 1 on DPS on a fresh account). Could easily be me not adjusting to difference in support tempo that was shifted going from OW1 to 2, but I always dps'ed on Ana, even before Awkward "popularized" it.
@Awkward Thank you so much for your videos. I was clueless going into overwatch 2 on how to play properly. Started playing a month ago and now i am top500 player thanks to your teachings. Cheers mate

I would be interested in seeing a lucio unranked to gm. Being a lucio main myself sometimes i find myself just feeding constantly and sometimes its hard to find value. There aren't many unranked to gm with lucio online that are recent and it would be interesting to see what you have to say :)
GM lucio otp here. I'm no where near as knowledgable as awkward but, I can say some of the most valuable things to practice and learn is your movement, managing risk to get more damage to build beat and apply pressure. For example, just like any other hero find angles that you can deal damage without being melted, how to peel, when to engage, and when engaging, communicating with your team. Speed is useless if no one actually uses it to pursue isolated targets/engage or to rotate/back. Also, beat is a very strong mid fight ult, so don't always save it to use reactively. Also, remember that boop is great at displacement. Got a poke comp sitting on high ground on Dorado? Boop em off. Got a genji blading your Ana and you dont have beat? Boop after he dashes. Junker Queen landed a knife and is going to use her slash? Boop. Targets hiding around a corner from a deadeye/dva bomb? Boop. You get the point. ALSO: avoid dying at all costs if possible. Hope this helps at all.
Watch frogger and eskay! Theyre the only gm lucio mains i can think of. Frogger is a contenders player and posts a lot of gameplay, hes pretty funny too.
@@tstatts Ya because im in lower rank nobody is in voice chat. Also for some reason nobody likes to back up if we lost the fight so whenever I try to speed amp in or out they sort of just strafe back and forth. Which is VERY ANNOYING. But thanks for the advice 😃
I do watch them a lot and I also some time watch avocadojelly and I use to watch redshell before he stopped (which probably wasn't the best inspiration for my lucio gameplay)@@yomama2376
@@haydenl7573 of course! And as sad as it is, that happens sometimes even in gm. Really just have to hard comm to the team the rotations that you want to take with speed or else they most likely won't do anything with it. Climbing solely playing lucio especially while solo que is very difficult at low ranks, unless you've got good enough mechanics to take duels. Biggest thing to work on first in my opinion would be cooldown management. I only ever use amp for engagement/retreat, and amp heals in midfight and to build beat or when absolutely necessary, but of course remember, cooldowns are meant to be used, there never exists a so called "perfect" time to use amp, if you know what I mean. You'll get a feel for it. Also, beat is an excellent midfight tool as well. You can easily win fights during the midfight by using beat then amping speed to overwhelm them while they dont have all of their cooldowns. So don't always save beat exclusively for defensive plays against things like grav and blade! Also lastly, remember, damage damage damage. Building beat as fast as possible is massively valuable. Good luck in the grind!
Awesome video man, I don't have the best aim (something I'm working on), but I've followed all your other tips and I'm slowly climbing rank. Finally hit plat open queue for the first time ever yesterday and I'm continuing to climb. Keep up the good work bro
id love to see awkward do a unranked to gm using high sensitivity on a mouse. If you can prove that perfect aim is less important than positioning you could have the most educational video with 0 excuses of getting good after watching it.
Man, I love watching these types of videos. I managed to make it to gold in support, but im bronze in dps (I dont touch tank). I'm decent when it comes to game sense, cooldown usage and stuff. Watching your videos has also helped me improve on things like this. However, my main problem is my aim. Recently started playing overwatch 2 and its kinda my first fps game (not counting cod i used to play when I was really young, it was mostly zombies anyway) and my aim is really holding me back. I know its a thing that develops overtime but I truly wish there was a way I could improve faster. It just seems like no matter what I do my skill with aiming stays the same. Keep up the good videos man! Love them!
I was stuck in silver tracer lmao. Then i watched your vid and a week later im plat only losing games when theyre late at night. I was playing overwatch like cod i literally have no brain. THanks for the full VODs
yo Awkward, just wanted to tell you that I appreciate your content, i've just hit grand master for the first time as illari and that's because of your educational content.
I try to optimize pile placement by sticking it in corners or on walls next to the floor so it's doesn't stick up so high. It resets quickly if not hit. I try to place it so if my team backs just a touch, they are healer but out of view from enemy
A couple of things I could improve on (besides the obvious): prioritizing targets that can actually die/switching to them, even though damage is important make sure not to overextend because you will die, I can dodge so much damage by not standing next to my tank the whole game, I won’t need to heal my teammates as much if I kill the enemy team lol
Can you make a new hog unranked to gm video he is different to play now and I want to play him as a secondary tank and I don't know how to properly play him or can you just make a video when the rework drops thank you if you read this
Brother, I appreciate you have other things to do IRL and I respect you for that. But part of me also wants you to make more videos because I learn so much from them - keep it up 🙌🏽
You get more value out of your pylon if you place it higher. At least the enemy team has to take their eyes way off your team to focus killing it giving your team another off angle distraction advantage.
Well, I tried illari and I think I am doing fine😅 I started from bronze 4 to Diamond 5 in 9 hours of playing her, after I watched this video like 6-7 times and I still watch it and I learn something new every time
coming here after watching dafran unranked to top 500 talking about streamers hiding behind educational streams while having insane GM level aim hiding behind it to punish new players, this needs to stop
My aim isnt as good as yours ofcourse but would you say a 50-60% is pretty good on illari on aim? specifically her left click. I feel like I do good damage but I'm just curious to know how I'm standing at the moment. I'm always trying to constantly be doing damage with her, aim isnt as good so I dont land as many headshots obviously but its nice to know where I'm at. I'm usually on par with my dps on damage in short matches or beating them and contesting my tank for top damage in plat 2 I use her and kiri, i do way more damage on illari but I think thats more her being easier to land shots with since its not a projectile
I think what's great about Illari's ultimate is that even if you don't get any kills with it, it forces whoever got tag with it to stay in cover for a few seconds. It makes it very easy for their team to be split and more isolated which makes killing those who wasn't tagged easier as well.
sober me plays at a bronze healer level, but oh man when im zooted and in flow i turn into a plat flank kiri idk how it always happens (on second thought it might be because i play way too passive when clean

Another in the same game complained that I was “pocketing tank too much” lol
I had the second highest healing in the lobby and dmg around my dps numbers.
Especially in Moiras case when you actually need to dps in order to refill your healing meter lol. Especially since she provides no utility, just healing
1:30:28 Actually thanks to your advice i was able to get from bronze 5 up to silver 5 within a day's session, after that i went on trying different roles and landed all three on silver with my highest being silver 1 on tank despite being the role i play the least, and i'm sure that by the end of the year i'll be able to reach diamond, thanks for everything and keep up with the good work
Respect brother
And that's what I was looking for, great mindset for pretty much everything in life. Love your work man !
if you are ever planning to play illari again here are some tips
Headshot + bodyshot + lowest charge shot will be enough to kill 200 hp targets
To get maximum height: Dont hold down any movement imputs, jump on the spot, at the apex of your jump you hold shift and then after that you can use a movement imput
@@NEDinACTION I explained how to get maximum height
@@NEDinACTIONyou get maximum height by doing that, like with junkrats mines or doomfists leap what part of that do you not understand
@@NEDinACTION you wont get maximum height that way and that anyways and that was not what your comments implied
@@NEDinACTION which means you are standing still, right?
This is wonderful! Never played her, but after watching this...i had to. My friends were jealous of the progress on the first day 😀. I absolutely love your advice! At first i thought you were good but cocky. Now i totally get it. You are the best! Thank you for the content. You make me laugh a lot, and your positivity is just great! Helped me on multiple characters. Can't thank you enough.
"When someone on your team is 'feeding' - he's basically creating a distraction for you to have an opportunity to get a kill." Thank you for being one of the only people out there that understands this shit. Makes me feel so much better knowing I'm not the only one that goes by this logic, and the countless of times i've been creating opportunities for my bot teammates only for them not to take advantage of it and instead result in just pointless deaths that should have got us team kills if they had higher iqs.
Nice. An Unranked to gm with tanks would be goooood
funniest fight ive ever seen 1:00:00
happens to everyone at some point no matter the skill level
Awesome man, love these series of videos. Very informative and are very helpful.
Thx for the video I’m actually seeing consistent success now thank you
Nowadays I tell myself after a loss, "I am not good enough YET" but I try and reflect on what I could have done better and make efforts to do better next game. Your content and words of encouragement showed up at a really interesting time in my life and have helped not only in Overwatch, but in my daily life as well. Thank you sir
went from gold 4 to diamond 5 watching your video's and i am still climbing. thank you for all your tips and tricks. It really has helped!
Whats ur rank now?
I love your honesty. Too many people overthink this game. It's not that deep
Damn this was quick. Great job as always Awkward!
I like how people were raging about him being a smurf but they still failed to kill the rest of the team when awkward messed up 😂
I was gold before i watch your channel . I said my mates are bad ect . And 4 weeks after i am low master / d1 on tank. Thx you very much . I hope unrank to gm on rein . You just save my game experience.
8:29 poor ramatra was so done with his team, i feel you man. sometimes i just stop and stare at my teammates questioning why i havent left the game yet
I feel that as a Support main💀 teammates staggering, ppl peaking a high noon, getting out of cover while half HP or less, etc😮💨
Nah bro he was being a bitch. Stop blaming teammates and just play the game
Nah his tank gameplay was trash af, definitely part of the problem. Watch him charge in like a buffoon 8:00 lose half his health and keep swinging. He's not free of blame, and he's being toxic af giving up looking at his supports like it's their fault they're not healing his dumbass charges
Already watched the entire video 62 times, eagerly waiting for the next one 😊
(I appreciate the consistency of your format)
It released 6 min ago...
bro watched the video for more then 15 days
Most hinged Awkward fan
@@TehJakeifyyou mean least hinged awkward fan
Well the video is 6hrs long but it released and hour ago.
i really want to see you play sigma.
Always play to live, but you have to be in a position to shoot the enemy. Use cover at all times
Dawg ana is still better than illari and moira for her abilities theres more to it than “coward dps” for why youre losing countless games
@@mathiaschristensen1194ML7 was the og dps Ana though imo
Nice haircut! Also, would you ever do a reaper or doomfist unranked to GM?
Yes.
@@Awkward2Can you do sigma?
Can u do lucio so we can both learn how to play him
No lie I legit recommend your channel to anyone who wants to learn or climb with any character cause your guides are so helpful!!
@Awkward Thank you so much for your videos. I was clueless going into overwatch 2 on how to play properly. Started playing a month ago and now i am top500 player thanks to your teachings. Cheers mate
Bet
When I watched your Ana U2GM my k/d ratio, damage, and healing all shot up literally the next game I played. I'm now a reformed Mercy Main, she was my first love but Ana is my new love. Thanks man.
Bro I love how strong his will is when it comes to mindset
Awkward, your my favourite OW contet creator, id watch this one, but im headed to the gym!! Push day bro! Stay healthy my friend!
PUSH!
"Here's a new character, I practiced it for 10 minutes, let's carry to masters..."
I'm over here trying to stay in plat with the one trick I only play.
Which hero is it?
@@Awkward2 Moira, after watching your Moira video lol
I am surprised this isn’t your favorite hero Awkward she is literally the embodiment of do damage and off angle.
her ult turns any good off angle into a team wipe as well
It might not seem like a lot but Ive watched 5-6 of your vids all the way through and it got me from bronze dps and support (brand new to overwatch) to now being gold on both o7 still climbing see yall in diamond soon
37:56 Mercy: "I'll see myself out" 😆
1:50:45 That probably didn't explode due to Lassody's damage reduction while rolling, it's so absurd it can actually survive tracer's pulse bomb, same goes for bastion
That Doom giving up in the beginning was hilarious
I learn so much from watching you! Not just on how to play with certain characters but got to play the game in general! You do such a great job of breaking it down and making it easy to understand why you do certain things and when you do them. You truly have a gift for this! Great content!
I would like to see you playing Lifeweaver, most of the people says he is not good, but maybe they are just playing him on the wrong way. Anyway, I love your content, you change my gameplay and my life, keep doing your videos and helping others!!
Yay! Thanks so much for posting Awkward😊
What happens if you were the only one alive and whole team was dead and respawning? Would you still wait for them or would you head in and do constant damage?
FINISHED!

Yessss thank you! Been waiting for this video!
Awesome video man, I don't have the best aim (something I'm working on), but I've followed all your other tips and I'm slowly climbing rank. Finally hit plat open queue for the first time ever yesterday and I'm continuing to climb. Keep up the good work bro
Honestly i appreciate you roasting us 😂😂😂 because I used to blame my team, until I discovered you.
id love to see awkward do a unranked to gm using high sensitivity on a mouse. If you can prove that perfect aim is less important than positioning you could have the most educational video with 0 excuses of getting good after watching it.
Thanks for the video! Hopefully you'll do a Junker Queen one eventually.
Love them!
my guess before pressing play was you would be doing damage from the offangle, correct :D
I was stuck in silver tracer lmao. Then i watched your vid and a week later im plat only losing games when theyre late at night. I was playing overwatch like cod i literally have no brain. THanks for the full VODs
Why don't you add twitch chat?
Lu-ci-o! Lu-ci-o! Lu-ci-o!
Come on my fellow NPCs
Lu-ci-o! Lu-ci-o! Lu-ci-o!

yo Awkward, just wanted to tell you that I appreciate your content, i've just hit grand master for the first time as illari and that's because of your educational content.
Lmfao that one dude telling you to learn how to play after your first loss if only they knew
Your aim is so crisp :O Good job
saw this on stream, i’ll watch it again for support
You don’t know how much this helped me very very good guide
Awkward, I'm convinced bro.
You're the best.
Period.
I try to optimize pile placement by sticking it in corners or on walls next to the floor so it's doesn't stick up so high. It resets quickly if not hit. I try to place it so if my team backs just a touch, they are healer but out of view from enemy
49:44 looking at the dog and the brain just leaves
A couple of things I could improve on (besides the obvious): prioritizing targets that can actually die/switching to them, even though damage is important make sure not to overextend because you will die, I can dodge so much damage by not standing next to my tank the whole game, I won’t need to heal my teammates as much if I kill the enemy team lol
Was hoping we'd get this video soon. As always it didn't disappoint
Hey man, I have been watching your videos for a long time, really makes my day
w
❤
I'm usually on par with my dps on damage in short matches or beating them and contesting my tank for top damage in plat 2
I use her and kiri, i do way more damage on illari but I think thats more her being easier to land shots with since its not a projectile
W content man🙏🏽 can we get a u2gm on Ashe??
Great guide! What's your rationale behind having changed colors?
I think what's great about Illari's ultimate is that even if you don't get any kills with it, it forces whoever got tag with it to stay in cover for a few seconds. It makes it very easy for their team to be split and more isolated which makes killing those who wasn't tagged easier as well.
Could u do a hanzo unranked to gm i am trying to improve with that Hero
sober me plays at a bronze healer level, but oh man when im zooted and in flow i turn into a plat flank kiri idk how it always happens
(on second thought it might be because i play way too passive when clean
Nothing better than seeing awkward go tryhard mode, it ends in a lose unfortunately but its interesting to see him turn on the jets when he needs to. 4:00:00
We need an Unranked to Zyzz Awkward !
8:16 first time I've ever heard him curse lol
was just wondering, whats your sens and DPI?
Went from iron to conflict diamonds using your tips, thanks man
Awkward what is your eDPI for hitscan heroes?
very clean as usual can i ask sens ?just curious look fast
At 1:58:48 why dose it show that you are playing as cassiedy in the bottom left ? 😂
