    The Mackie HM-4 is a 4-way headphone amplifier designed to provide simple and effective headphone amplification for artists, musicians, and engineers monitoring through headphones in home, project, commercial, and mobile-recording studios. Its single 1/4" TRS stereo input and four 1/4" TRS stereo outputs allow user to distribute a stereo source to up to four pairs of headphones. Each output is controlled via a dedicated level knob, allowing varied listening volumes for each person. The compact heavy-gauge steel chassis offers rugged durability and a convenient power status indicator on its front panel. Hi Jim very nice and straightforward video! I have a question since i bought the behringer HA400 and i returned it since i notice that it colors the sound and adds a bit more Bass to the sound. I am looking for something clean so that the sound coming out it's the same as it is coming from the Daw. Does the HM4 add any color to the sound. Please let me know thanks.

    • @JimToscano
      @JimToscano  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching and for the comments and question. To me the signal is very transparent and not really adding any color. The signal is simply split & booted for my studio needs. Warm regards.

      Hi DJ I did find it to solve the issue of not having enough gain from the Focusrite headphone outputs. Even in the Control software it didn't give me enough so the headphone amp gave me that push I needed, thanks!

    what are your thoughts about using the Behringer UM2 as a headphone amp for the Beyerdynamic 990s?

    • @JimToscano
      @JimToscano  3 роки тому

      Hi Mike I don't have these products in my studio to test, however the Behringer UM2 interface may have enough output to work well with the 990's. My interface has a low output volume for headphones so I have integrated the HM4 to boost the signal. Additionally check out Behringers software. That may give you more control. www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0AVV

    Just arrived today.. Rly nice looking comfortable to use.. Only problem is the amp gets small amount of white noise after 67℅ that's rly not cool but I already bought it have to deal with it I guess, the bihringer ha400 doesn't get any white noise they said and it's 15 bucks cheaper..

      Ah that can be annoying. I’ve not experienced that. Then again I just use it to run a remote volume control at my drum kit to monitor tracks and clicks and probably would hear the noise anyway. Thanks for the info.

    Thanks for the review. I just bought a BD 770 Pro 250 Ohm Headphone and have a Focusrite 4i4 AI. I also want to be able to use full monitoring directly from my DAW without breaking the bank. So I am considering the Mackie HM4 or the ART HeadAmp4. The placing of the input/outputs/knobs make me lean toward the Mackie though. But I am wondering, do these amps require a (balanced/unbalanced) stereo line-in or a stereo headphone level input?

    • @JimToscano
      @JimToscano  3 роки тому +3

      I use a y cable to run the stereo out of my interface to the headphone amp (TRS) you can also run a balance cable from the headphone output on an interface to the amp. I’ve used it both ways! Thanks

      Yes it should be good. The Mackie can handle the 250 ohms well. In fact some of the Beyerdynamic headsets are being sold as a bundle with the HM4 here are the specs:
      Details: Transmission type Wired. Headphone design (operating principle) Closed. Headphone impedance 250 ohms. Headphone frequency response 5 - 35.000 Hz. Nominal sound pressure level 96 dB. Construction Circumaural (around the ear). Cable & plug Coiled connecting cable with mini-jack plug (3.5 mm) & ¼“ adapter (6.35 mm). .
      Mackie HM-4 4-Way Distribution Headphone Amplifier with 4 Headphone Outputs. Share a single stereo source with up to 4 pairs of headphones. Individual level control for each output. Powered via the included 12v AC adapter.

    Hi Jim if I want to use a headphone amp in tandem with my Focusrite Scarlett what would be the best way to go about it. Should I connect the headphone amp to the Scarlett’s headphone out or should I connect the headphone amp to the Scarlett’s line outs, using I presume RCA cables. @@JimToscano I have the 2i2. Are you saying take a line out of the Scarlett’s headphone out into the headphone amp. Wouldn’t that be dicey. One amp amplifying another.
