I played bassoon in the orchestra, you can see me in the back! So much fun to record this video!
Respect for you mate
Damm, for real? That's awesome! Must feel really nice to be part of this masterpiece of a song
Yeah, it was such a fun experience! It was filmed in the western part of norway. Really cold and rainy, but definitely worth it!
@@TG-wy7ck absolutely awesome! I'm no expert, but it sounds like the original audio is an actual ensemble rather than a program. Were you part of the original audio? I do know that music videos aren't the original audio...if they were, I'd die for that audio setup
@@daorignaldumbucket Hi dumbucket! You're Absolutely right! The audio is Recorded in France with French Musicians, and the video was recorded on an oil rig in the Western part of Norway, just outside Bergen. So since I'm a Norwegian musician I was hired to play on the oil rig and be a part of the video, but I'm not part of the original audio. However, this does show how much of a dedicated musician Woodkid is because he hired real musicians even though we weren't on the original audio
I absolutely love the juxtaposition between his "I do try but I'm hopeless" and the sun coming up before him. Maybe not so hopeless, after all.
Well said, Gandalf!
I’m shocked that we actually see him in one of his videos. This is a first.
quintet versions of i love you and iron also featured him, im sure theres some more but these are the first ones that come to mind.
I think pale yellow too but correct me if im wrong
goliath too
Is it actually him tho or photogrammetry 3d model of himself singing how he's not made in his likeness but more in a 3d representation of himself
@@nalotschaeni was he in there?
This is a MASTERPIECE. Only Woodkid himself can express his music in such a cinematic and visually beautiful way with such a stunning location
I'm in tears.
If that's what you think I recommand typing "Kaleo - Save yourself" in youtube :-) Altough I agree the music & video are beautiful.
@@alikhamis3367 _Me too. Woodkid’s songs, make me feel like I’m drowning in happiness._ ♥️
Don't forget to appreciate where the cinematic genius comes from: the director Yoann Lemoine!
@@neilisalive4892 Yesss. That’s what I like the most about Woodkid. He not only creates amazing music but also directs his own music videos
Incredible... I would love him to do a Jame Bond song.
Glad I'm not the only one who got bond vibes from this one.
@@javannapoli2018 I know right, he has such a soothing yet powerful voice.
Not James Bond, it's more deep than that...something like a remake of Citizen Kane, or enemymine, or some film more introspective or any iTim Burton's film
@@lucaskanyodutra4177 Citizen Kane is a good shout!
Enemy from Woodkid is a song made for a Bond Movie
Just give the man a chance at a James Bond Opener at this point.
On first watch I can't help but notice some visual metaphor.
He fires off that green flair in a desperate attempt for hope in the dark, but it reveals nothing.
Only when the sun comes up can you see the land.
You can see it's right there.
Not stranded in the sea after all.
Utterly stunning
some interpret the flare as reaching out for help, which seems to be unanswered but ends up the the new dawn
Literally the saviour of 2020. Woodkid bringing some ray of light to a bleak year.
his childhood icon is madonna :))
He's not the saviour but he helps a lot
2020 is better with Woodkid ❤️
My band teacher introduced us to you when he played Iron one morning. Been loving your music ever since. Keep making music. Thank you.
That just reminded me of the quintet version of iron, good song
I really recommend listening to Golden Age if you haven’t. It’s what made me really start to listen to his music and it’s a great album
@@buggyking2523 I have listened to some of the songs and they are good. Thank you for the recommendation though.
@@buggyking2523 Golden Age was great too, I am one of those fans from Assassin's Creed so the first ones I listened too were iron and golden age (trailer versions) and i just kept coming back and listening to them and then I stumbled upon "run boy run" and I think "I love you" or "ghost lights", and then almost immediately from there I just started listening to everything else
Lol years ago I played his Ghost lights song in my band class. Everyone was shook 😭 hes amazing
This is gorgeous... As someone who's been fighting against depression for years, it hits me really, really hard. I don't think I understand the whole world he has built with this album, but it doesn't even matter because of how skilled he is at eliciting emotion with both his music and the visuals. It just speaks for itself and I had full body chills and tears in my eyes watching this. (The day dawning once he reaches out for help?? Damn)
Also I absolutely love that Yoann is now comfortable putting his face in his music videos, since it made this way more intimate.
same
Same. listening to his music makes me realize the beauty of the dark days. For a moment the depression becomes something with a purpose! he puts in music what I can’t describe with words
@@raf_haarhaven well said
So I was not the only one with tears on my eyes after listening this song. Good to know.
I'd highly recommend Son Lux for all the sad ones out there. Yoann has collaborated with them several times, including this album (Reactor, IIRC).
I would suggest their new album Tomorrows I and their album Brighter Wounds. Hope you enjoy 🖤
The sun is rising on you, Yoann. It is rising for you and it will shine bright, Woodkid. There is light at the end of your darkness__brighter and clearer days are coming your way. You are a rising star, a beacon of light lighting up our way and enlightening our souls. Don't you ever change, Mr Lemoine. We love you just the way you are.
[Verse 1]
Washed in thick black haze
We're not unfailing, I see
I can't fix this mad desire
And I feel your love expire
[Chorus]
I know I'm not made in your likeness
You're not made for my darkness
I know I'm not made in your likeness
I do try but I'm hopeless
[Verse 2]
Watch my fears unravel
Can you see the truth of me?
I don't hold the light required
For this endless walk on wire
[Chorus]
I know I'm not made in your likeness
You're not made for my darkness
I know I'm not made in your likeness
I do try but I'm hopeless
[Bridge]
Straining fights and Demerol
I've never been on time for you
I break the rules and protocols
And I just keep on missing you
Straying nights and after all
Would you be waiting here if you knew?
I'm just alone and cynical
But I will never not need you
No, I will never not need you
[Chorus]
I know I'm not made in your likeness
You're not made for my darkness
I know I get lost in the process
I do try but I'm hopeless
I know I'm not made in your likeness
You're not made for my darkness
I know I get lost in the process
I do try but I'm hopeless

TY!
Thank you very much!🤗🙏
The cinematography is breathtaking. I am truly fascinated by how light itself can tell a story. Respect for everyone who worked on this.
This album is such a perfect mix of cold industrial tone and warm heartfelt vocals. Bravo, encore un succès 🙏
For me, S16 doesn't have tracks that stand out nearly as much like some do on "The Golden Age". But the whole album should be seen as a complete work of art. This has layers upon layers of depth. This is an album to take time to absorb. This is no one hit wonder, it is instead another masterpiece.
Yoann, from the bottom of my heart - Thank you.
That's how I felt after my first listen. But this album has really grown on me. It's definetly its own thing.
the album is really good but i cant connect with it the same way i did with the golden age. maybe its just cause im mentally at a different place then where i was years ago when the golden age came out. The golden age was dark but i think this was lyrically is even darker. and im a much happier person than back then
Streamed the new album today. First impression: He kept the cosmos feeling from The Golden Age, but reduced brass and added more strings, so the whole album sounded more mysterious and melancholic to me. The percussions were... metallic (I don’t know how to describe it) which was interesting. Some songs were soft and relaxing at first but then bam! All the brass, strings and choir and percussions came in. Soooo epic. Then the Japanese counting suddenly popped up, I was like hold up hold up what was THAT! As if all the emotions packed up until then burst out. What an emotional roller coaster. He is one of the most brilliant and creative artists I’ve ever known to use the voice of the orchestra so well.
Here is my tier list: Goliah, Reactor, Minus Sixty One, Pale Yellow, In Your Likeness, Horizons into the Battlegrounds, Highway 27, So Handsome Hello, Enemy, Shift, Drawn to You.
Thank you Woodkid, very, very great album.
The percussions sound "industrial", right? (like the theme of the album)
@@schrou yeah right
@@schrou I think that's also where the coproducer Ryan Lott might come in - a member of the band Son Lux - highly recommend checking them out, if you like those sounds :)

Sometimes power resides in vulnerability. It is powerful to surrender to who we are even if it means admitting our darkest demons. "Im not made in your likeness, Youre not made for my darkness". Probably the most truthful and painful love declaration Ive ever read.
I’m still trying to figure out if he’s talking about God about how we are not made in his likeness what I do agree with your statement it is beautiful and true
after 11 years I admitted the same truth as this quote from Woodkid ending the best love relationship I have ever lived, now, I am lost in the process of a hopeless future, not for the loss of love itself, but for the revelation of my darkness!
this song was already a masterpiece for me by the 1st note, now, watching the amazing video it s like a punch in my stomach, lovely!
@@ethrick.k.1292 I was thinking about my relationship to God or to the place i feel like no ome appreciated me. I hope one day i'll find a safe place where i am accepted and appreciated.
One of the best songs of the year
Not the best because of the other song of the album? Xd
"He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and, far as I was from him, I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward-and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been at the end of a dock."
I can't even dude. You're consistent with your masterpieces, that shouldn't be possible at the level you're at. Also, ABSOLUTELY EXCEPTIONAL SHOTS.
How woodkid hasn't been asked to do a Bond theme yet is beyond me. This would be a sick Bond song.

Elles sont tellement cinématographique tes musiques.. On écoute pas une histoire, on la RESSENT.
There is something about this video and the location that just makes me think of Metal Gear Solid V and mother Base.
That said I'm just appreciating how lovely this video is in general. The singing during the dawn is so gorgeous.
I've started mgsv this year, haven't finished it yet, kinda needing to take it slow lol so yeah pretty late to the party. But anyway, whenever I listen to Iron I cant help but think of MSF and DD
One of my favourite songs he has made . I would dedicate this song to my ex so often . I both loved her and this song equally , she ended up messing everything up I was forced to leave her and she immediately got with another guy . For some reason I have forgiven her even though I shouldn't . Every night would listen to this song and wait for her to message me , I know and I hope she never does but for some reason that hope still remains . Having been used , she used my insecurities and my fears against me even though she was in the wrong . Idk I'm typing all this but it least it will probably make feel a bit better because I've kept everything inside all this time . Hope the person reading this has a beautiful day .
I'm so sorry you went through that man, you seem really kind and forgiving. I hope things get better, you deserve it
It's not fair; Yoann makes beautiful music, AND he makes beautiful moving pictures, AND he's a damn handsome man. Come on man, leave a little talent for the rest of us! ;D
"I'm just alone and cynical" Hit me like a truck the first time I heard it.
You can see in his face how deeply he knows every inch of this song. The emotions he expresses through both the singing and the music video are just,, indescribable. It's breathtaking
Best thing to happen in 2020 by far
This video has literally showed me the beauty in large factories/machinery, a place I’ve never looked for it before. If you look through the right filter, you can find beauty in almost everything.
La musique est si calme mais c'est tellement violent !
The Man himself commented on this video. Imagine what sort of killer collab would be.
Apashe ft. Woodkid ? Ce serait un missile comme musique

I love this album.
Dude, where were you hiding? And why are you still so underrated?
It's funny because he's technically not underrated or hidden. If you look up the list of his works, both prior to becoming an artist himself and then everywhere his music has been featured after becoming an artist, the man has been quite literally everywhere but it's definitely one of those cases of people liking the handful of individual songs but not checking out the artist as a whole. He's certainly grown more though as an artist and in following and hopefully the success turns into greater works and an amazing fandom overall though.
Some suggest a Bond movie, but man, i'd love to see Yoann tackle a space opera type movie. Something in my bones tells me that if he'd be given creative direction, he'd make an amazing score. And if someone like Yoann and Bear Mccreary would team up...*mind blown*.
This is so quiet and powerful at the same time.
Woodkid can make a stage out of anything, this is a cinematic dream
I can't even begin to express how woodkid makes me feel, he is a once in a lifetime artist, he just creates this parallel universe where he takes me every time I listen and watch and feel his music. Thank you for inspiring and nurturing my soul.
Masterpiece, 10/10, this is not music, this piece goes beyond.
FIRST clip in which Yoann himself appeared!!!
Official clip you mean... quintet versions of other songs and live with son lux also featured him before
There is so many complex emotions and parts to this wondrous song that I've been hesitant to post my thoughts here for fear that they won't do justice to this piece or miss other ideas. Here's my interpretation/speculations:
It feels like the main character (portrayed by Woodkid) is addressing earth or nature. Lonesome, surrounded by metal manmade machinery and scenery of the oil rig (represented by the electronic, pulsating sounds and punctual distant drum), the main character seems to speak on behalf of humanity: Acknowledging the need for nature but also the entrenched needs humanity has created for itself, things that are at odds with each other. I think he also realizes the entangled needs of all humans. How it relates to his place on the rig, and how some of those needs and perspectives cause suffering in not just the earth but other humans. Whenever he contemplates his place in the world and acknowledges his "darkness", the "darkness" of humanity, the strings stir and combine with the 'machine' noises. This bittersweet turn in the music may represent how humanity has become intrinsically tied to both the power of machines (not necessarily a bad thing) but also the 'organic'--intrinsic things of humanity such as emotion and need for nature.
Thus, the gravity of the scene where he fires the flare--seeming to wish he was that small green light streaking away from loneliness, sadness, and stifling duties to his job/humanity. I get the sense that he wants to break from humanity, leave the rig and return home. The weary longing and melancholy on his face when he watches the flare start to fall reminded me of the faces of all those feeling 'stuck' in life, trapped in a soulless duty or difficult/painful time in life. He cannot bear to watch the flare hit the water and extinguish, instead choosing to close his eyes against the reality of seeing something he possibly identifies with abruptly fizzling out.
I feel like the third part of this song really turns a bend in his story, both in key and feeling. After admitting that he "will never not need you" to both nature and humanity, he owns both the good and the bad as well as his own hope. Holding onto the hope of returning to land and reconnecting with humanity and nature, the sunrise begins to brighten the sky. This feeling of hope is accentuated by the visual of seeing land, of clearly seeing the human faces of the orchestra surrounding him, and the strengthening of the electronic and string sounds. There is a sense that even if the protagonist doesn't return to land for many more months, he's transcended the fear of never returning home through his acceptance of both his and humanity's issues by striving to continue onwards as a wiser person.
I will just finish this by saying that this song really became the anthem of survival during the pandemic for me. It reminded me that all of humanity is in various stages of struggle together due to this and other problems. We are not like the flare--quickly extinguishing after impatiently/carelessly running for complete freedom, leaving everyone else behind--but instead like the main character: Full of complex ideas, accepting reality, learning from our mistakes, trying, connecting with nature and humanity, and holding onto hope for a brighter future.
I don't normally listen to lyrical music or even enjoy music videos but Woodkid's pieces are so unique and emotional, full of symbolism both visually and in the language, that I can't help but contemplate them long after I've heard/watched them. Sorry this is so long. Thanks for reading! :)
Well said. The first few times I listened to this piece it absolutely broke me and I got a very similar sense.
That shift you mentioned, in addition to what you said, also gave me the impression that, through those painful admissions, we could turn each of the lines in on themselves and allow ourselves to know that we ARE of Earth and that even though we have used it for our darkness, there is always redemption.
The violin parts sound strangely James Bond-ish, and I love it, I wish we could see a next James Bond movie with Woodkid
There are so many amazing layers to this song. One that I don't think that's been discussed too much - the juxtaposition on the oil rig staring at the shore, singing "I know I'm not made in your likeness, you're not made for my darkness" speaks so much of the damage humans have done and continue to do to the earth. This is just one of many interpretations I have of this, but it's one that I didn't see discussed in the comments.
this is beautiful. His cadence in this song reminds me of Antony and the Johnsons’ “Hope There’s Someone.” what an amazing and entrancing piece of art.
i always look for this song when i feel lost
I see in this is album a simple and powerful message: don't destroy the world
I don't understand how this just got 1.2 million views?! That's a masterpiece!
A James Bond potential soundtrack! An amazing song, voice, and video ! Great job as usual WOODKID!
Yoann, I just wanted to say, I understand the song. I understand the pain. You’re loved. There is hope.
One year later and this song still gives me the chills, just that amazing 🙌🏻🙌🏻
The musical genius is back! His voice is just the most beautiful thing in the world.
''Your not made for my darkness''
I have always felt that in every relationship I have ever had but I know without that darkness I would never truly cherish the light.
Wonderful. Magic. Inspiring. Woodkid.
This is beautiful. Thanks to all people that helped create this. 🌹
There are war in my country, there are war with covid-19, but woodkid here to save us with his music.
This is so underrated. Easily one of my favorites from Woodkid.
yes!
I remember Woodkid performing on MELT! almost 10 years ago. He was so good. The energy was fantastic. His set was over but he just didn't wanna leave stage and they kept playing song after song until the festival staff had to just kind of usher him and his band off stage to allow for the next band to perform. I can still see him skipping around the stage in absolute glee. Good memories.
On vit dans un monde ou Wejdene fait 100 millions de vues avec " Reprends tes caleçons sales" et où Wookid fait 1 millions de vues avec une merveille comme celle-ci !
With a lot of Woodkid songs, I feel like it can be seen as a love song between individuals, but also as love songs from a person to God. As with "I Love You", there's just a profound sense of yearning and questioning to a higher power. "I know I'm not made in your likeness, you're not made for my darkness" just sounds so tired and so reflective of a world where it sometimes feels that God has really turned His back from us :(
I'm not religious so the god stuff doesn't quite hit for me. I appreciate that it can be interpreted in different ways though
Everything about this piece is beautiful.
I just got back from military training, im tired as hell, and then I hear this song swimming through my ears and I have never felt more relaxed.
I have no words. This is wow!
As someone who went through a crisis of faith this year, this song really hit me when I heard it.

Absolute masterpiece. Bothers me that there hasn't been more people that have seen this.
They are tuned into a different frequency.
Woodkid's gotta be one of the most versatile artists out there. Adept at not just his music, including the instrumentals and lyricism, but also how to stage an incredible show, to channel an emotion, to create VFX and renders by himself, and spearhead the production of his own music videos in an artistically pleasing way no less!
He makes good on his "Songs to you make feel like a superhero" motif. Looking forward to the masterwork.

Je ne me lasserais pas de regarder un si beau lever du jour aux côtés d'un si bel homme... Une chanson tendre, autant sans doute que l'artiste... Ah, si seulement...

The end of the song is an organversion of the intro of Run Boy Run/Golden Age, amazing little crossover.
Tout est superbe...surtout la voix!!!
theres alotta comfort coming from this song
The industrial atmosphere adopted in those recent clips gives both a vibe of dread as a vibe of greatness. The melody of the songs induces us to appreciate what we're seeing, the towers of iron our commons have built, the draining of coal and petroleum from the entrails of Mother Earth. Our poetry is as much tragic as astonishingly beautiful.
Woodkid coming out of his shell
This album is amazing.... the melancholy and deep feeling on his voice, the dramatic introspective lyrics, the peaceful iet raw violence of the chorus due to the combined of the above plus the perfect use of the instruments.
It isn’t two or three songs that are great, its the whole album that builds this incredible harmony.
I love iron but I don’t know if this is better
Yoann is so beautiful! And talented, this whole video is great. The aesthetic of the oil rig ( is that what that is?), The absolute darkness and the beautiful song is so moving. Lyrics are perfect.
