They need to give the actor in this video more credit. He perfectly captured the gaze of someone who is completely burnt out and grasps the hopelessness of working these types of jobs. As someone who has been there and seen the same look on the face of coworkers and even my bathroom mirror, he captures it perfectly.

That guy is pretty calm for someone who just watched a kaiju climb out of a lava pit he's standing next to. Most folks would be running and screaming in terror.
I have a very strong feeling that Woodkid could be the perfect composer for Denis Villeneuve's films. The music is very bold, dark-ish and lyrical at the same time. That's exactly what Villeneuve is into.

Sadly it sums up modern times.

WOODKID 🤗
@@Cataclysm1 I appreciate your response, I think it's an important point, but do you honestly believe the average person is hell-bent on fueling the climate crisis? We are not bad apples, we are apples in bad barrels that would otherwise be good. Capitalism makes the efficiency you see here possible. Capitalism is why fossil fuel exploration is an honest career and not a hazard to workers and life. An edifice that makes humans self-destructive is an edifice that needs to be overcome.

Well fossil fuel might end in about 10 years or something so we good but actually not
@@abd-cf6oj It won't actually end, we will have fossil fuel until the end of the century but the production will be forced to decreased. Because of peak oil or because of climate change forcing us to give up on them
I think the issue is that our impact can be significant, but it also isn't due to just how colossal the earth truly is. Resource management and good stewardship is important. We want to preserve our environment because we live here. Very few would care about mining an asteroid or the far side of the moon, or mars. As far as emissions goes, we've been 10 years from global catastrophe for fifty years, lol. As in politicians wanting to pad their foreign bank and company pockets always try to pass laws restricting local energy production so that they can earn fat bank from their foreign investments selling extremely marked up energy back to us.
Plus, we have nuclear, the cleanest and safest power source ever discovered, yet these 'green' politicians curb it at every chance to lock local energy production down so that they can force us to by foreign energy at extreme mark ups. If we went to nuclear fission + electric cars, we could have vastly reduced our fossil fuel consumption by like 99% (we still need petroleum products to produce medicines, polymers, batteries, tires, roads, concrete, buildings), so we could use it to build instead of burn.
In other words, if you see a 'green' politician shutting down fossil fuels / coal, but not promoting nuclear - or going against nuclear as well, he's just lining his own pockets and doesn't give a shit about the environment, and in fact hurts it, as we will instead import our fuels, which drastically raises the amount of CO2 generated from transportation.

Locke & Key represent!
I absolutely see this as an extension of the music videos from The Golden Age. The videos for Run Boy Run, I Love You and Iron all seemed to be dealing with the struggle of mankind and breaking away from nature. Iron shows people and animals together, battling something unseen, later revealed to be the city and priest in RBR and ILY. To me, these seemed like spirits of nature, fighting for the soul of man, trying to get them to return and not enter modernity and corruption. RBR (I initially thought) was about growing up and wanting to stay young. But now I see that it's about innocence, and childlike purity and wanting to remain one with the natural world, being ruined by adulthood, and by extension, man's evolution to what we are today. In both of these videos there's an abundance of natural figures.; the animals, the scenery, even the wooden and grass monsters in RBR. ILY follows the boy's death and then the preacher. Here we have a more modernized and more adult man. He recognizes it's too late to turn back and he sees the damage separating from nature has done. He feels deep remorse for this and longs to return, but doesn't seem to know how. The visuals are split, just like RBR, between natural imagery, and more sterile, human imagery. The vast expanse of nature makes up half of the video. And the long rivers and natural paths in earth's geography mirrors the roads and conveyor belts in Goliath. There are direct visual parallels between ILY, RBR and Goliath. Woodkid did this before in RBR with the ram-headed creature immediately cutting to the building with the facade of a similar composition. The city in RBR, is almost identical to the shot of the coal processing plant in Goliath. He's drawing these parallels to show this is the next step, it's all one long story. Only now, nature is dead. It's nothing but manufacturing, industry and destruction. Our man here, is having an awakening about the state of things, visibly disturbed, with every other human very apathetic to the devastation at hand. The lyrics I think are form the point of view of the earth, as if speaking to mankind. The monster at the end I think will be something that can retaliate, bring the destruction of man to restore balance. Which is so poetic and accurate. We cannot reap destruction to our home without it, in turn destroying us. Hopefully we can come full circle and change before it's too late. I have no idea what path the next videos will take, but speaking in terms of real life, I desperately hope there is a positive outcome, and that it's not too late, and than we can get back in touch with our natural side and live harmoniously with nature. It's a brilliant saga that Woodkid has put together here in such an artful and powerful way.
I felt the same thing about the monster and the fact lyrics are said from earth's POV. The whole thing is so overarching and ominous it truly gets you thinking of what humanity's future will be.
Alas, we needed to break away form the nature so you can post this wall of text from the comfort of your home, worry-free, with your market-bought food in your fridge, and pig-pharma-produced medicine in your bathroom cabinet.
What a joke, isnt it? You will come to realize and appreciate the necessity of progression and the manufacturing and the industry. These things take time for ordinary people like you.
"Down there where coal is dug is a sort of world apart which one can quite easily go through life without ever hearing about.
Probably majority of people would even prefer not to hear about it. Yet it is the absolutely necessary counterpart of our world above. Practically everything we do, from eating an ice to crossing the Atlantic, and from baking a loaf to writing a novel, involves the use of coal, directly or indirectly. [...]
In order that Hitler may march the goose step, that the Pope may denounce Bolshevism, that the cricket crowds may assemble at Lords, that the poets may scratch one another’s backs,
coal has got to be forthcoming."
The Road to Wigan Pier
George Orwell, 1937
Thank god we're not in 1937 anymore, I reckon.
@@MrHerecomesjohnny The world is still largely dependant on fossil fuels. Renewable energies are an option but too inefficient and unclean (in production). Nuclear is also an option but always carries hazards, even with modern reactors. Fusion is the holy grail of energy production with virtually limitless fuel and close to no downsides. We should pool all our resources into fusion research, it would solve the energy requirements for the forseeable future and beyond.
@@pablosturm6640 I wish. So much could be done if the world worked together. Yet we still hold on to petty differences and how much is in our wallets.
@@alikhamis3367 something tells me it'll be that way for as long as we stick to a system built around wallet balance and petty differences

Yeah, this is amazing. Ignore the other idiots.
C'est incroyable comment cet artiste est sous côté en France. Alors que depuis le début de sa carrière, les projets sont magnifiques, aussi bien dans la réalisation des clips que dans sa musique. Il mérite tellement de considération 🙏🙌
Bonjour, oui oui
Woodkid is a genious! This is as symply as a fact ;-)
Agreed from 🇺🇸
C'est plus compliqué quand t'es chansons sont en Anglais
L hypocrisie française
Woodkid could make a badass Bond theme for a new Bond film. This song is too good.
How long for this to be used in the next big game trailer?
Wow I didn’t expect WOODKID to give me a ♥️!
today we are gonna find out.

"I'll be waiting for you on the beach"
I love the effect his eyes have , the scary jaws of the machine as it digs, the monster that grows and we continue to feed it. We're slaves to it and our own nature. Don't know how we will get away.
This is the only videoclip in the last month that have made me feel anything. I mean it's a masterpiece, epic, intense and dark. Pure Woodkid.
My view of Goliath: The worker resembles the small percentage of us that frees himself from "human blindness" and starts seeing the repercussions of his and others acts; these days we turn a blind eye to Earth's corrosion, stone by stone as a result we "blindly" created Goliath, which we see in the end, as the monster. But is this Goliath Earth's champion? Or is he here to retribute Man's pollution fingerprint? The best part is the freedom this music gives us to imagine and reflect ;) Amazing music and message as always Woodkid ;) Thank you!
I had a similar reflection
@@elenacastella2904 Awesome ;) The creative freedom in Woodkid's music always inspires, teaches and warns us. I hope we have a few more surprises in the future :)
My sentiments exactly
Fantastic analysis! Couldn't have said it better myself :)
Well he didn't free himself completely on his own he only became aware after being told he is no longer needed this machine that does a faster more efficient job then all of the workers combined but causes more destruction then all them combined causing more pollution
Hi Kojima's fans and Hi Woodkid's fans
*waves enthusiastically* tee hee hee
Thank you kojima!
The created monstrosities to achieve crazy things, but they didn't realize the real monstrosity they were helping to create
kusal seems like you’re the only one who got it!
And what monstrosity would that be? The monstrosity of affordable luxury?
I think this machine is a mind-boggling achievement of human ingenuity. But the music is so down. Why? What's the issue this time? Mimimi nature? Or mimimi bad working conditions? Or mimimi capitalism?
"Look at this insanely huge thing that does the same thing as a shovel just bigger and better. We shouldn't have that much power! Let's get back to sticks, stones and fur, struggling against nature, so we at least don't have to feel guilty for being alive." smh
@@fabiovenetz6779 "mimimi captialism" "mimimi hubris" "mimimi ultraliberalism" "mimimi human ingenuity" .......................................between that shit and " Let's get back to sticks, stones and fur blablabla...." there is an ocean, you dualist troll.
@@docgonzobordel what?
What monstrosity? Just because the thing at the end isn't a sexy woman, you immediately judge it to be a monstrosity? For all we know, it might be the only thing holding the world together. Some people just want to see monsters to justify their lack of self determination.
Worker forgets to wear his ventilator, inhales coal fumes and hallucinates a giant molten rock monster.
no but seriously this is beyond amazing
that was exactly what i was thinking ... but this shit is still amazing
I don’t think he’s hallucinating. I think the monster’s real and he’s been possessed by it since he breathed in the fumes without his mask.
@@FischerFilmStudio less of "he sees the truth" i think and more of "humans have come to rely on their technology and masks to ignore and/or remain ignorant to the horror of what they're doing so when one takes off his mask nature assaults him with full force, as she always has, and always will: an uncaring and apatheticly vengeful mother. Humans caused this horror. With no mask, it threatens to kill them. They ignore it anyway."
@@FischerFilmStudio like,, think of it this way: with climate change, it is very much human caused. Us over here sitting pretty in suburbia only see the effects through screens, (...ignoring corona, but most are far too small minded to comprehend the connection and this ain't the point) those in poverty, though? Aka those without masks? They're hit full force by it's effects. The hallucinations, in the metaphor. Yes, you could say that they are seeing the truth, because they are, but it's so much deeper than that. They're not seeing the truth, they're living it. He's not seeing the truth, either.

That visual at 1:54 that matches the beat is an incredible touch to the video. Well done
It's the perfect communion between musical language and cinematographic language.
It's balanced, respectful and beautiful. It's perfect.
Is it possible to be disappointed and excited at the same time? This feels like such a tiny piece of a much larger puzzle, and I'm disappointed that I didn't get more. But even more I'm excited at what's to come if this is just the tip of the iceberg. I feel like once I hear more, this piece will just solidify in its brilliance.
Impressive pieces of machinery, those bucket wheels.
Isn't it called bucket excavator? I mean I'm no native speaker, but I never saw it being called bucket wheels. Or are you just referring to the wheel on the front of the excavator? Because I think the machine as a whole is quite impressive.
@@Simeon301091 nah bro its a bagger
💪🦾
its called a Bagger 228, its made in Germany, used in the excavation of coal ore in open cast mines across Europe
First time i've ever seen this piece of machinery, it's honestly pretty terrifying how much power it has
This deserves its Grammy nomination and so much more. Incredible stuff.
I was waiting for this! Woodkid music has been with me since the golden age premiere. It is incredibly inspiring and from a whole new world. It's like the OST of my life, in those good and worst moments. Love from Poland everybody!
This song would be so perfect for Netflix's Dark...
omg yes you're right!
@@chlcczlcoffzkkdet7707 well i think they fucked up with the ending of season two
Came to my mind too
Who are youuu 😳😳 this is perfect for the show
holy fuck yes
My brother told me about the video, he says that this guy is actually blind, so the "monster" he see at the end of the video is product of his imagination, he imagines a monster by the noise of all of the machines working
interesting point of view... but why the worker is able to sleep on the excavator then?
Awesome, thanks for the inside perspective
Yeah, the only issue with that interpretation is what the hell a blind man is doing around industrial equipment. Thats actually a death sentence in areas with machinery (office spaces, and controlled spaces without heated piping and a lack of moving segments are a different thing though).
@@thesocialistsarecoming8565 maybe metaphorically blind? Idk lmao. Being physically blind just makes no sense especially when you’re working in a mining industry lmao
I think the symbolism carried by this video holds more meaning than that.
This. Is. Art.
Woodkid is a better director than actual Hollywood folks. Everytime he's involved with something behind the camera (The Rihanna Anti Trailers, the Black Atlass clip, and many others) and the visual artistry is out of this world, and of course the music is awesome. He clearly has a strong visual and musical identity, and I feel like that could work really well in movie form. I'm sure he could get something going with a few phone calls. Looking forward to the rest of Goliath 😍
This man never disappoint us
Woodkid is a classic of our times
TOMORROW IS IN YOUR HANDS
