@@stefanburns3797 well I guess he's saying that because like he said, he thought it was shock value, just like some find cringey when metal deals with satanic stuff just for the shock
Back when I was a rebellious teen I loved this album. Once I got back onto the right path I still loved this album, but in a different way. Especially this song, at first I was apprehensive to revisit this song because I thought it would be anti religion and yet it was more biblical than anything. I love that it talks about the dangers of greed and corruption and how we need to know what we believe
I loved watching the Pastor’s face smile when he “got it” while listening to the song. He absolutely nailed the analysis on this and it’s not immediately obvious that this is about greedy televangelists.
This! It's not about Jesus. It's about televangelists making profit (hundreds of millions if not billions) on the premise that sending money to them grants you favor with God. Pastor Rob nailed it. (edit for typo)
@deazy All prophets and pastors are full of lies. In their defence though, most of them, like pastor Rob here, aren't aware of it. Indoctrinated and blind to the damage they do.
You know as a Catholic, the "Send me money, send me green, make a contribution and you'll get the better seat. Reminds me of the buying of Indulgences which kicked off the reformation. Of course, love metal in general, and Metallica got the ball rolling for me.
I absolutely love these two reacting they aren't like the other Christian's passive aggressive towards the music open minded and not willing just to be hateful. Instead they explain what they think about it and actually vibe
Insanely true the craziest thing to me is that I’d be listening and jamming but then I’d look at the lyrics and find dark meanings/ messages which just bothers me on a level that makes me disgusted sometimes
True people don’t realize most metal artists are chirstians their lyrics are hard but they aren’t evil pop songs often talk about drugs and sex in a positive way while metal sings of the dangers of things and that’s why it’s harder
First off a huge amount of songs Metallica does and sings about is about war, and politics. Second, some of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life are covered in tattoos and listen to heavy metal. Some of the most judgmental people go to church every Sunday. Remember that.
Rob, Its fantastic you really do interpret the lyrics. You nailed it. Its so easy to quickly decide this is a knock on the faith, and its not...at all. Its highlighting those who use the message for their own personal gain. Respect to you for being open minded and listening.
Once again you’ve absolutely nailed the lyrical analysis here, Rob. One of the main reasons I, as a non-believer myself, follow you. You’re honest and true to your teachings and beliefs, and I 100% respect you for that.
As a Catholic, I don’t always agree with your theological positions you espouse in different videos. But we both love Jesus and rock/metal music and speak out against corruption in all denominations. I always enjoy your videos.
This is exactly how I interpreted this song as a teenager. Growing up in the 80s was to witness the world of televangelism in its prime. This song is about the Jim Baker's, the Jimmy Swaggerts, the Peter Popoffs etc....etc...that made their profits off the working class using satellite TV in a new world of being able to give a Visa or MasterCard number to some disconnected remote operator in order to do God's work, save the hungery children or spread the gospel with promises it would enrich your own life and put you in favor when your own judgement day would come . Many of these charlatans were eventually exposed sleeping with their secretaries or even prostitutes. Some even spending time in prison. There's a long history here, if it was before your time just do a little searching online. There is a reason this type of music and lyrical content touched and reached the lives of the youth of its generation. The irony of it all are how Metallica and other lyrically prophetic bands of this era were considered tools of devil and even "satanic". When in fact they were often thought provoking mediums to open the eyes and minds of a new generation.
"Send me your money" by Suicidal Tendencies is another great song about TV evangelists back in the 80's and 90's. Something that was cringey was the Bakers!
The song was written around the time of the Jim and Tammy Bakker scandal, and James Hetfield (the songwriter) has said in interviews that the song is about them and televangelists in general.
I had always heard that part of the inspiration for this song and others like "The God That Failed" could also come from the death of James Hetfield's mother. She died of untreated cancer because her Christian Scientist beliefs went against the methods of treatment that would save her. It's been mentioned in interviews but I don't know if James or anyone else in the band made a direct reference to this being an inspiration.
That’s like blaming the drug dealer and not the drug user LOL without the drug user you don’t have the drug dealer. I like how you guys apportion blame to the supplier but not the demander .. as if human beings have a spell put over them which otherwise they would have been completely rational if not for these magicians. This song is a criticism specifically aimed at televangelists but the principle should be extended to all forms of faith.
Stefan Burns you repeated your first point twice 😂 well I somewhat disagree. Manipulative televangelists / pastors prying on vulnerable people is just wrong and you can’t include their victims entirely in the blame. That’s like saying that people owning things is supplying the theft crimes. I do agree that people falling for this stuff is ridiculous and hard to understand but these types of conmen are very manipulative and it’s very easy to judge as an atheist (which I am as well).
If I remember correctly when James was asked about this track, obviously musically it still had some Cliff and Dave input but I remember him saying that this was like a speak out against some of the prosperity preachers of the era.
Like my husband who is a shaman says: thats why it takes 30 to 60 ayahuasca ceremonies for a bible thumper to have any chance of spiritual ascension. the infinite heavens that are everywhere that youre blind to. So I just found your videos a couple days ago and have thoroughly enjoyed them. I grew up in church and as an adult I have really struggled with my faith. I went to bible college after high school for a semester and it left a very sour taste in my mouth. I only watched your video because Metallica is my favorite band and a pastor reacting to it might be funny. This video is not what I expected and has given me a lot to think about. Your faith seems real and sincere and has brought up thoughts I haven't had in a very long time. And yes I watched till the end. Thank you
Stayed the whole video, and really enjoyed it. I starve for good intellectual conversation. Though I am not religious I do study theology and respect your beliefs and really enjoy hearing your perspective. I really like how you separated televangelists from Christianity here and made it clear it’s not your practice. As someone who was not brought up with much religion in my life the televangelists out there today have really made me skeptical of religion in general. I’m glad you are truly devoted and have a ton of respect for you guys. I practice Buddhism but wouldn’t really even consider that a religion. More of a frame of mind. In my studies I have definitely found a common thread that weaves itself through all of the worlds religions. I personally think the truth is somewhere along that thread. Keep doing what you are doing. Love the videos.
For me this album was a game changer. I loved Ride the lightning and kill em all but, this album took it to another level musically, production wise and lyrically.

Well done guys! I'm a new fan and I really enjoy how open y'all are about the lyrics. Double stoked you picked up on the televangelist layden content. Metal music specifically uses a lot of symbolism. I personally am not a believer of god and the (written) story of Jesus. I believe the power of ones self/mind is the ultimate tool for greatness. I also believe the bible was written to help give morals to people who would otherwise not have endured/had the chance to draw an own conclusion. Elmer Vasquez so when it’s not about your Lord and Savior it’s not cringe anymore? Lol
@Metal Fan the right path for him. Not you
I loved watching the Pastor’s face smile when he “got it” while listening to the song. He absolutely nailed the analysis on this and it’s not immediately obvious that this is about greedy televangelists.
It's about televangelists and traveling huckster religious "preachers"
Exactly
I think the song is refrencing mega churches and kenneth copeland when it says send money
im not even a christian and this priest is spittin FACTS
Never too late to become one, brother ;)
Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not guaranteed...
You better become quick buddy. Start with Who is Jesus?
Not a priest but a Protestant pastor
I absolutely love these two reacting they aren't like the other Christian's passive aggressive towards the music open minded and not willing just to be hateful. Instead they explain what they think about it and actually vibe
You guys are theologically SOLID! How could you like metal so much?
(... maybe because metal is more godly than any pop music I've ever heard.)
True.
Insanely true the craziest thing to me is that I’d be listening and jamming but then I’d look at the lyrics and find dark meanings/ messages which just bothers me on a level that makes me disgusted sometimes
I disagree. (poppy reference). I think it just depends on the artists. There is good metal music and good pop. There are bad songs in all genres.
No joke i feel more connected to God listening to Slayer than contemporary christian
Ive always noticed that myself, although I was raised in the Mormon church... Not saying anything against Mormons, just thats been my experience.
Key word here is "Some" Just pointing that out, not throwing shade.
Agree!
Some of the worst ppl wear suits
@@symphonyinkart where does that put me? I wear suits, am covered in tats, and not only listen to metal but play guitar in a metal band? 🤔😋
I always enjoy your videos.
me: *laughs in orthodoxy*
As a catholic, I enjoy Rob’s analysis. Great breakdown. He is 100% correct
It was their reaction to Jimmy Baker, and Jim Stewart - both televangelists in the 80's
I love, Suicidal Tendencies "send me your money"
Jason Wilson “make me laugh”, Anthrax. “Miracle man” Ozzy. Same topic, great songs.
Holy Smoke by Iron Maiden
"Time for lust, time for lie(s)"
That's the 2 Jimmy's to a T.
@@JasonRyanWilson who's gonna be the new king of the fakers, who gonna take the place of Jim and Tammy Faye Baker!
Yes yes yes they need to listen to that . I definitely would like to hear their take on other supposed Christians whoring religion for cash.
and Death "Spiritual Healing"
The song was written around the time of the Jim and Tammy Bakker scandal, and James Hetfield (the songwriter) has said in interviews that the song is about them and televangelists in general.
This. There was also an Ozzy song about jimmy swaggert and Jim baker. Couple big scandals around then.
Miracle Man
I had always heard that part of the inspiration for this song and others like "The God That Failed" could also come from the death of James Hetfield's mother. She died of untreated cancer because her Christian Scientist beliefs went against the methods of treatment that would save her. It's been mentioned in interviews but I don't know if James or anyone else in the band made a direct reference to this being an inspiration.
the other song was creeping death. but you mentioned 4 horsemen, any chance of getting a reaction to that?
@stargazer _099 I'm not sure, but i think The 4 Horsemen was what funk was requesting.
The song is directed against tv-preachers in 80s, earning millions.
70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s and beyond
Please also review by chance my favorite band slayer-angel of death
If I remember correctly when James was asked about this track, obviously musically it still had some Cliff and Dave input but I remember him saying that this was like a speak out against some of the prosperity preachers of the era.
Of course it had Cliff input. He plays on the album.
Well neither cliff nor Dave is credited on the song
I'm pretty sure Dave had nothing to do with this song or album. this is the second album album after he left.
@@panrick um actually none of first four albums is his contribution. He left when Kill Em All war recording
What do you think about the book of Revelation is it from God or not with all its talk about how women are defiler and Jews are Satan worshippers

its so funny how christians are alwayz looking for the beast when christianity is the beast. haha
Like my husband who is a shaman says: thats why it takes 30 to 60 ayahuasca ceremonies for a bible thumper to have any chance of spiritual ascension. the infinite heavens that are everywhere that youre blind to. And all other groups on the planet and hundreds of cultures that you hate, cuz you hate everything and everyone thats why it takes much less aya ceremonies for them to ascend. Cuz bible thumpers are the darkest within them thats why nobody views this magical multi dimensional earth of spirit darker than you do. Cuz its a refection of the darkness within you
Thank you Pastor Rob for helping me see my childhood inspirational music in a different light!! GOD works with each one of us in different ways and Metal was what would calm me when I got furious with life in my youth.
Keep preaching the good WORD of GOD!!
Kill’em all, Ride the Lightning and Master of puppets! Best albums of all time!
and justice for all is the best out of all 3. Just my preference lol
And justice is the best by them imo
Justice is better than Kill. The other 2 their best.
AJFA > RTL > MoP > KEA (my favorites in order)
It was great to hear a pastor interpret this song. I'm a non believer, but I thoroughly enjoyed hearing dad break this song down for the young man.
Favorite metal album of all time. I’ve been doing some interpretations of my own since returning to Christ. It will be interesting to see what y’all came up with.
Such a great look into this song! That is 100% what the song means. I love you guys doing these videos. Im an agnostic atheist and I totallu love how you guys are breaking down these lyrics. Keep it up guys!
The Metallica song about the Passover is called creeping death off ride the lightning
Man, I just love pastor Rob's sense of humor. It's amazing that a pastor like him has a great sense of humor and isn't serious about every single thing. This pastor is indeed a great one. Thank you Rob, And God bless.
How the hell is this cringy?? I've never heard that in my life this song holds up to anything now days. Lol
I think they're saying it's cringy because he's a pastor, and other people who call themselves pastors are deceptive and manipulative and it hurts to hear about it. I think they give it pretty high praise for both the meaning and quality of music. I agree with you: this song and album hold up amazingly well!
@@nathanwilliams5923 hahaha no, he said it because he thought they used it as shock value, in a teenager way, like just hating on god because it's cool and rebellious
I think they were referring to lyrics without interpretation
Ooof came here to say the same thing. But I think he just focused too much on the title and took it a bit too literally. He’s young we’ll give him a pass! But Pastor did a great job as always.
@@carlosykyk you can't really hate on something that doesn't exist.
I loved this show. I’m a Christian that loves metal. I’m teaching my young omg metal guitar and introducing Jesus Christ our king. God bless u both.
One of the better breakdowns I’ve seen. Good to know your references and history. Metallica rarely criticized those who didn’t deserve it. Their music was brilliantly written to reflect the social issues they faced at the time. They are the true masters of metal. Their music hits to the core. I love it!
This is the reason I like Metallica... They speak the truth
Do disposable heroes!!
"GOD IS DEAD?" by Black Sabbath would make for good analysis
Emm nah. The title is kinda atheist. But the lyrics is just the opposite.
The lyrics is great
I think they may have reacted to it already
I think the lyrics are cringe but the music for that song is incredible
What about "after forever" I think he'd enjoy that one
You guys should do “spiritual healing” by Death.
@Cyrus that would be awesome
Chuck talks about faith healers, doesn't he?
As a man that has fought with my faith it’s refreshing to hear your intelligence and great way of interpretation of these songs gives me hope that there are true believers with the true meaning of faith and what really is important in our path as Christians
I was saved a little over a year ago, and this was one of my favourite songs growing up, but after being saved for what ever reason I never listen to the song till now. And before you got to the discussions was reading the lyrics and remembered a conversation with a fellow Christian about how spiritual gifts wouldn’t be around for us today and I right away thought about the televangelist. But either way it’s nice to know I shouldn’t feel bad for the enjoyment this song give me. New to watching your reactions and so far enjoy them and the discussion. Thanks and keep safe.
Please react to "Cemetary Gates" from Pantera or "You'll never find me" from Korn!
CyberKaiju Pantera yes, Korn sucks
The only Korn worth listening to is their first album "Korn" and their second, "Life Is Peachy". The rest is trash.
Pantera on the other hand, all Pantera kicks ass
@@bluelivesmatter8836 That's a cool opinion, however I dont remember asking.

I watched every second and really enjoyed it.
Thank you so much! That means a lot to us!
I love how they thought in mid part that solo is starting. Thats actually the best part in this song. The strong mid part :D
The funny thing is that his lyrics are true because there are some people who take advantage of people's faith
Octavio Taleno a lot more than most people will ever know
Yep , look at Joel Osteen now.
Everything that James writes is true and from life.
For me this album was a game changer. I loved Ride the lightning and kill em all but, this album took it to another level musically, production wise and lyrically.
I stayed this long. Love you guys. You're always a blessing. May you be blessed 10 times more than you bless
I just love the way Rob develops his thoughts about the meaning of the lyrics throughout the song watching his face. As a fanatic Metallica fan i know the lyrics and it's meaning so it's very interesting to see the expressions during the song. Seriously one of the best Metallica reaction videos on UA-cam.

This is such a great platform to use for preaching. I'm not religious at all, but I listened to the whole thing. Thank you for that.
Yup. James wrote this song about preachers being false prophets. As I said in your reaction too, "The God That Failed" James is a truth teller of religion. James is an incredible lyricist, that always speaks the truth of religion, politics, and many other subjects. He's incredible at telling a story with his lyrics.
Yes the lies of religion. Thats why like my husband who is a shaman says: you hateful narcissistt bible thumperz are by far the biggest mass murderers in history for a reason.Cuz nothing is darker than christianity. Period
It’s about evangelicals like Kenneth Copeland. People who have lost their way because of greed.
Have they lost their way or is it the path they wish to take?
I absolutely love the respect and perspective you bring into interpreting and listening to these songs. It's truly awesome. I would love to see you guys react to Dante's Inferno by Iced Earth, it is an epic song! Keep up the great work and positive energy.
Dude! Thank you for doing this! Great discussion, great analysis, and great gospel discussion about one of my favorite genres of music! God bless you and your ministry.
As a metal/music lover and agnostic, I love to see y'all have an open mind and see things from many different perspectives.
He should be ashamed for not knowing “dollar dollar bill yall”, respect to pastor rob for knowing some wutang
I want to see you guys react to “send me your money” by suicidal tendencies
It amazes me when a pastor actually gets what the song is talking about. It was never about disparaging Christianity, it was about exposing corruption within the church
I love this song. i was just blasting it while driving through the alleys of Philly.
yup, stayed through the entire video, Metallica is my favorite band, and I have watched a few of your videos, I like the message you pull from it and you guys seems very true to your word, good stuff my friends.
The beginning of Metallica has all the references of the late 70’s and early 80’s Classic Christian protocol that was shoved down our throats. The bands of that time:
Known as the big 8
Metallica: Heavy Old Testament lyrics in the first albums including crosses on the cover of Master is Puppets
Exodus:
Old Testament name of the band
Testament
Again biblical reference
Slayer:
First album sets the stage with pentagrams on the cover
Megadeth
Dave Mustaine famously writes The Conjuring.
Anthrax :
Scott Ian only founding member and always have the pentagram on stage with them
Overkill
Review Deny the Cross to give you perspective
Death Angel::
The name says it all
All these bands are tied together and friends. They all came out at the same time and still tour together today
All have various members that had heavy Negative Christian influences in their early years
Almost all have band members that are now born again Christians
Pastor Rob: you need to watch the interview with the drummer from Death Angel it is about his battle with Covid 19. He died and went to hell and met the devil
The crosses on the cover were more because of "Disposable Heroes" with the rows & rows of crosses at Arlington National Cemetery
Where can I find that interview video?
Bro, as a former Christian and current Norse Pagan, I'm not gonna lie- YOU are a pastor that might have kept me in the faith. You have a head on your shoulders like my step-Grandma, understanding and compassionate. You go dude.
Please react to Oblivion by Fit For A King. Would love your insight on that song!

yes I stayed to the end, this was excellent in every way, I really cant say enough to how good this was.(and I watch a LOT of pastors, sermons and Bible teachings on YT) I will be watching regularly now.(subscribed). think I have found where my next tithe is going
Good vibes and Metal "Chugs" to you and your loved ones!!!
I like how you can see how giddy he is realizing the leper messiah isn’t Jesus in the context of this song
Please react to Washed by blood - Brian Head Welch!
I absolutely loved your analysis of the song! As a pastor myself and an old school metal
Musician some of these songs you have reacted to reminded me of my youth. After the military and my time in the Seminary I can still appreciate songs like this. It reminds me of Shai Lynne’s song False Teachers keep it up brothers
This is definitely one of my favorite songs of all time. From the lyrics to every single instrument. And the solo is great. Just an all around great song
I think I agree with pastor Rob on this one, this song for me was all ways about traveling evangelist "circus comes to town". When I first saw the movie "leap of faith" this song was in my mind the whole time. Now I can't think of one without remembering the other. Good movie, good song, good job. So how about some Ray Stevens "Would jesus wear a rolex?" lol
P.S. I almost always watch to the end, if I don't it's only because I had to take care of RL stuff not because of your content.
When I first got into Metallica, the title of this song worried me. I listened to it, and pulled out the same conclusion and interpretation out of the song that you did. No false gospel! No prosperity gospel!
lol. I remember listening to all kinds of music growing up like death metal/deathcore and having to skip songs because of lyrics talking about God. I loved the songs, but I would feel bad listening to it. I don't have that problem anymore, but your comment made me think of that.

My first time watching your vid and watched it until the end. I am a Christian but love heavy music like Metallica etc. I love how you take the time to delve into the lyrics rather than dismiss it them. Some powerful conversations can come out of being humble and reflecting whilst still enjoying quality tunes 🤙
From day one, my point of view was: this song was about false prophets/preachers.
It's to bad that 40 years ago I didn't run into a preacher of the Bible like you, maybe my outlook on RELIGION would've been different and yes I stayed to DA END🤘👍😀
I would posit that the end has not been written (of our lives) yet.
Excellent discussion, stayed right to the end, will be watching more of your videos
I stay to the end of each video! I absolutely love both of your reactions and commentary. I am an avid listener to metal and a Christian and it is refreshing to hear your takes, opinions, and also scriptures that go hand in hand or refute the messaging. Keep it up guys and thank you both!
