Also, as someone who has studied stage makeup in different eras now, the 90s through the present, doing what looks best on your face shape and with your skin tone will always be better looking than following trends that don't look good on your skin tone or with your hair color. I figured out what looks best on my face and I will keep doing that forever LOL
I totally agree 👍 I became a teenager in the mid 90s. The whole skinny eyebrow thing was the trend my sister and mum told me to go with what suits your face and not a trend. They also warned me about my eyebrows not growing back. They were totally right and I still see many people I went to school with with the same brows because they didn’t grow back because they over plucked them 😮
@@rainbowbrite8705 I was lucky that my eyebrows are so blonde you can't see them, so I never plucked them. You are so right that they don't always grow back.
my favorite blush has always been pinks, purples, and mauves. anything cool toned. i tried warms back in the craze of 2016 and 2017 and i looked terrible :( took me years to figure out why “nudes” looked so good on everyone else but me. turns out, i needed a pink leaning nude or a mauve haha i was shook 😂
I had to laugh when you were talking about the classic Steve Madden black sandals from the 90s…. I’m 36 and I have a 13 year old daughter who is fashion obsessed and I have been LOVING seeing her get into styles that I wore at her age 😂😂 she literally has some hollister jeans that I wore in high school and I find myself telling her all the time that I should have kept all my clothes! It’s so true! Everything comes back and it’s so fun!
I’ve been kinda amazed by how quickly greys and taupes have come back the past few months. Last winter I was desperately looking for some CF grey/silver single eyeshadows, was amazed by how long it took me. I finally found lome loose mineral shadows from the brand Lily Lolo (they’re very good!). But it legit took me weeks to find those. I would personally appreciate if we actually did consistently get more cooler toned products available (in addition to keeping warm tones for those who suit warmer tones better).
I remember way back in about the mid 90’s Covergirl coming out with a Summer collection of white eyeliner and soft yellow eyeliner, it was also the year of coloured mascaras. It’s funny to see how things cycle around and around.
I'm so into copper, neutral blushes as of late , i can't wait this trend to replace this Pink era because blue based pinks don't look good on me! Also i've just purchase 2 red lipsticks and some copper shades lately because i've decluttered some old ones ! I was never into laminated brows because i have fluffy ones and this trend wasn't for me at all! Of course at the end of the day is to wear what makes you feel happy and your preferences !❤❤❤ You look absolutely flawless, Kelly!
I have been doing the same make up since I have been using any. It looks so good on me and I’m never going to change it. Black pencil in the waterline and along the lush line. Deep red lipstick, mascara, bronzer and nude blush. That’s it. I’ve tried different things but they just don’t look good on me
i’m soooo over super bubble gum pink blush, and i’ve been over it for months, but now i’m more into nude, some peaches, and certain mauves right now. i’m glad we’re going more into natural skin like base makeup. i can’t do too dewy or too matte foundation. a slick back ponytail, bun, braid is timeless to me. i don’t mind messy buns though, because i love them as well. my hair lives in a center part and that’s where it’s going to stay. i LOATHE low rise pants and i will not be participating in that trend. everyone has THEIR shade of red lip. i’m more of “almost a burgundy” red lip girlie. i’ve had soooo many bobs in my life and i just can’t with the humidity where i live now. yesssss to silvers, greys, mauves, and taupes because those are MY SHADES!!! cool tones are my life!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Yes! I've been saying that this is the Winter of the red lip. I've never really liked the nude/neutral lip look, so I'm ready for that one to be on the down curve.
Hyperreal, high-beam highlighter is almost extinguished. Heavy False Eyelashes bands are on the way out. Heavily drawn brows are trending down. I think everyday editorial looks are coming up. The strawberry look, latte makeup, grunge, goth, Groovy, Pop. I think stronger, more individual interpretations are everywhere. I expect a lot of no-makeup makeup and a few “only lip colour” looks.
Well if matte comes back I suppose I’ll be in style again, because I hated the dewy look and clung to my matte finishes throughout. I never bought into the trend for shimmer and glitter either. I just never liked it, didn’t think any of it looked good on me. I do like a lighter more satin matte right now as opposed to a dead flat matte, but always matte. And I’ve never done the bright pink blush, it looks awful on me. I decided a long time ago that a sheer clear true red cheek color was me and it’s all I’ve done since. Also, I always wear my blush placement as where a real blush/flush would occur, never high on cheekbones or near my eyes. I don’t like reds or pinks near my eyes except every once in a while, the palest red f nude pinks as a brow bone color.
This is too funny...I didn’t realize that parting the hair a certain way was a trend. I just do it in a way that looks the most flattering to my face and hair on that particular day.
Yeah I already see a lot of bold lips around. Reds and burgundy color and especially with like black lipliner or interesting ombre lips. I think it's related to the whimsigoth/glamour goth trends in fashion and aesthetics that have been going around. And I think those two are here to stay for a while longer.
To my knowledge I never really have been on trend either hair or makeup. The only trend I accidentally follow is I have always had a center part. I have bought multiple red lipsticks this year but haven't worn them much. I have all kinds of lip colors 🖤💚💙. I haven't been much into beauty in my life since my mom wasn't either. I just started following the makeup community on UA-cam over the last 6 months. None of the trends you mentioned are me. I don't really do my eyebrows and have never worn fake eyelashes. At some point I would like to try some more adventurous blush colors but I doubt I would wear them regularly. At some point I'm sure I will give in and try fake eyelashes but I would want something as natural as possible. I love my hair long, down, and brushed. I don't really style my hair. I dyed my hair black last year. As far as the dewy look; if it could be achieved subtly and not sticky, I would be down. I'm really just a matte and powder product person. I've tried to expand, but it never works well.
I could never get behind the white eyeliner in the waterline. I'm a dancer and as someone who has to do it for shows, I just don't think it looks flattering.
As someone who had a terrible, unflattering bob as a teenager - it really is like a red lip. The people who say it’s universally flattering are talking about specific types of people, even if they don’t know it lmao. (And tbf - I am a short haired person, decade plus pixie cut person, and happy to see short hair coming back. But the bob isn’t it!!!)
I have a theory that the minimal lip trend had more to do with the 2020 panini rather than a natural trend. It took a long time for all of us to want something more than a gloss or nothing at all because of the masks. Then when masks were no longer a thing, we didn't really get companies bringing out new lip products or advertising lip trends until mid year this year.
I just looked at this comment. I 100% agree, also feel like it falls in step with my glam lash/eye makeup theory.😊 Oops just realized I forgot to call it "paninni " 😅 Please forgive me and don't come for me or my family.🙏 ❤
It's taking way too long for cool metallic shadows to come back. As soon as Y2K became a hashtag, we should've seen frosty blue metallics hit the market.
I’m 51 and have seen lots of trends come and go. I believe things like a slicked back hairdo, a bob, red lipstick, and so on are timeless. I think it’s the trendy things we will look back on and cringe. The enormous eyelashes, the spiky eyebrows, and the overly ‘dewy’ skin just to name a few.
Yep. 53 here and I feel the same. Plus I feel like trends cycle a lot. I've had deja vu with some trends and my reaction hasn't been "oooh cool trend" so much as "again??".
I agree. Sometimes I'll see a trend popping up and I'm thinking, I've been doing that for years. It's like fashion, it always makes its way back round.
Ive always wore dewy skin as my skin is so so dry. I dont think skin types are a trend but I absolutely agree with the trends. The tiktok trends give me mega ick hahaha
I hear UA-camrs say bold lashes are out but that must be a social media analysis because in these streets I see tons of ladies and girls wearing the super huge, moth like, eyelashes with no other makeup (which is a very strange look), so in the actual world, not sure how out of date the lashes are….i’m not a fan, but it’s pretty prevalent, even my husband noticed it and he couldn’t care less about makeup😂
I couldn't agree more. I see alot of youtubers and influencers say what's in or out... and I think the lead is from social media and where brands are taking new launches. However.... many people who started pink blush in the 80s are still doing it.... or the big bold brows of the 2012s. Some people stick to what they know or things from their youth... and then that passes on to their younger generations. I still see LOADS of people with bushy/block brows... big lashes... fake tans...5inch nails...and lip filler. ❤
@@AltogetherAlanna O the 5 inch nails yes! See those all the time! I totally agree about doing things from childhood, I was putting blush on my nose and forehead way before the trend because that’s how they did our makeup back in the 80s for ballet and tap dancing, lol, I don’t do it as heavy but I still like it and will most likely do it the rest of my life, lol
Actually I’ve seen more teens wearing dramatic lashes, even the dramatic ones with like a jewel in them or a few of the lash hairs will be colored…..it’s not cute. I feel like lashes especially lash extensions, a natural and wispy lash is better and a bold dramatic lash is better for like the holidays.
@@tiamarrow6366 I saw the colored ones as well….i agree, not a fan, but I’m not a fan of lashes in general, they just look fake to me, even the ones that are supposed to be natural…🤔. But I’ve seen adults with the big lashes as well, it’s been the gamut in my area 🤣
Same same, glowy glass skin for me always. To be honest I have never seen person with matte look that doesn't look very artificial and just unflattering in a daylight! Even the so called satin look always looks kinda heavy close up.
I'm so happy cool tones are back, for the last few years I had so many duds in eyeshadow palettes because it was waaaaayyyyy too warm for me! if there was even a hint of a brown/bronze shadow, I could basically throw the palette away 😵ans I love cool espresso or chocolate tones🥰 honestly, I don't really care what's trending, I wear what I like and feel comfy whether it's make up, hair or clothes, but I'm always happy if something I like is in, because it's so much easier to find gems 😍
@@ashleycooperpop oh my gosh that's so true, I can't even count anymore how many times I looked like I used a self tanner from the early 2000 as a "contour" like, carrot who? 🤣
Back in the day when the beauty community just started, cool tones were the most popular because it actually flatters a lot of people and looks very pretty with green/blue eyes and pale skin. But then everyone got obsessed with warm tones because they look beautiful in the pan while cool tones look boring.
I've never given up cool tones, and there have always been brands that continue to release cool pallettes. Asian cosmetics usually have cooler contours, but even L'Oreal has done well with not-orange bronzing.
I could never get on board with feather brows on my face but Barbie pink blush is not going anywhere (though maybe not as editorial/excessive as the current trend). I just hope everything I bought while this was trendy will not go bad before it comes back :)
I had a Trish McEvoy Barbie pink blush years ago. The makeup artist reassured me that despite how it looks in the pan, it will brighten the entire face. It did. It still does, and I still love it!
Me too! I love pinks and purple tones on my cheeks. Peach and orange look awful. It was very hard to find a cool toned pink until the Barbie trend. I also bought a few so they will last me awhile. ☺️
This is inspiring. I am on week 7 of being off social media. I didn't think I'd last this long. It hasn't been as bad as I thought. I also haven't done as much as I had planeed to do, but it still the beginning. Definitely helping my mental health
As a super cool toned person, I'm ecstatic that cool tones are finally back in. I've not bought many eyeshadows in years because I look terrible in warm toned makeup (the warm toned palettes I have get hardly any use). Cool toned taupes and silvers are my thing! Also bright red lips! Red is the only lip color that looks good on me. I hope red lips are there forever
I feel like a red lip is a classic. Even when it is not trendy, it always looks fashionable. Completely agree on the cool tones! I do not look good in warm tones so it’s great to have more options again.
I am very pale with cool toned skin & I’ve had great luck with Korean brands having eyeshadows, blushes and bronzers in cool tones. They’re a bit harder to find, but look great
Same, i used to have some berry-pinkish-orangey warm palettes that i bought cause it was the only thing that was avaliable, also i thought warm tones will fit me since my skin has yellowish tones, and boy, i was wrong. Now i know they make me look sick or beaten up. Now i use mostly cool pastels like baby blue, lilac, and mint, and i always get a lot of compliments, also they fit me cause i'm VERY pale
Warm tones make me look like I'm sick with a cold. Super cool tones just look like I'm trying too hard, if that makes sense. I have found olive green and khaki tones look the best on me. Sad it took me until my 40s to figure it out.
Y’all can pry pink blush out of my cold dead hands lol. I’ve loved it since the mid 2000’s and waited for it to come back in style so I could find good ones in stores.
Bangs are definitely about to come back in 2024. I think the side part with the side bangs also!! And just straight across bangs are coming too! Little wispy ones to leave out of buns and high ponytails! My nieces wear the little butterfly clips that I wore. I do think an ugly trend (sorry everyone) is the braided bangs down the front.. I cannot 😂
My theory is that every woman looks good with short hair Maybe not a bob but something between a bit longer than shoulder and chin leangth. Never saw a women that cut her hair on shoulder length and did not look good or better. Chin length is not for everyone but shoulder length looks makes something to the body/ face imo that makes it so beautiful Edit: some people just rock the pixie/ bald look! forgot about that! but in general, short/ no hair looks better imo on everyone. Can’t convince me otherwise 😅
I have always had very long hair, I went in for some foils and a decent cut, below the shoulders, but the woman did such a horrific hair cut I had to go back (to another person) and get it fixed, which ended up being a short bob cut. And I was so surprised how good it looked. And I've had people saying It makes me look years younger too. Who knew I'd end up liking it. Now I think I'm going to keep it like this for awhile.
@laurafaehnrich4261 shoulder length hair is too heavy on me. I suit pixie, chin length or bra to waist length. But shoulder length feels too frumpy and suffocating on me visually by cluttering up my neck or something?
For my combo-dry skin, I will never give up dewy or luminous skin. It's so comfortable and goes with any eye or lip makeup. But I do think powdering certain areas of the skin can be helpful too like the T zone or for pores. But I think It's much easier to mattify later than start with a matte primer or foundation that will only feel heavy and uncomfortable on skin. At least for non oily skin types.
80s teen/young adult here, we actually didn't wear our blush that high--you'd see it in videos, but mostly we'd do the whole suck your mouth in and sculpt under the cheekbone. And it was a bold streak bc most of us just used the brush in the compact-we didn't have access to brushes like today. I just had to pipe in. As for me, I have been happy to have blush back. I have strong contrast between my hair and skin, so I need some blush to not look washed out. I like plum/burgundy myself . Anyway, I am glad people at the very least have learned to love blush vs no blush, it will be interesting to see ehow it plays out. I like dewy, but i agree, it is played out. I am here for satin/lightly powdered and young folks, go full matte, it is tres chic especailly with a bold lip, little eye makeup. ..also very 90s One nugget of advice I like to pass on--save your jeans. Those cycle so much & yeah, save your jeans, purge your closet occasionally, except for your jeans. YVW.
I'm an 80s teen/young adult here too and also did the suck-in-the-cheek-to-apply-in-the-hollow-of-the-cheek look with the tiny brush that came with the blush. I went for either a rose or plum shade with a bold streak that looked surprisingly good on an 18 year old, not so good at 58. We bought either Maybelline or Cover Girl because we couldn't afford Revlon or L'Oreal and high end makeup could only be found at the fancy department stores. The HS trend with the streaked blush was purple/plum eyeshadow with black eyeliner in the waterline which was achieved by melting the Maybelline red pencil eyeliner (you had to be careful not to over melt it with the lighter) and black Great Lash mascara. I usually used just a gloss aka Vaseline or maybe a light pink shade for the lips. Eye makeup was always my favorite, as it is today, and people used to call me "Endora" for my bold eye looks at the time. I see all these videos out there with the bold, beautiful eye looks that would have looked amazing back then but have to modify quite a bit today and saying to myself that I would have loved to have today's eye looks back in 1984. I also agree on saving the jeans. I still have a few pairs from the 90s and early 2000s that I may revisit soon but those acid wash and the "baggy" jeans from the 80s that could only fit my size 3 teenage body I threw away.
In my area/city 90% of the women I see are still only wearing skinny jeans, and leggings. My guess is they don't want to try anything that doesn't show their curves/assets, because this is where they got the most compliments.
@dmreddragon6 I don't like baggy trousers walking around town because they catch on stuff and trip me up, harder to move quickly from danger, too cold in winter ect.
"I need some blush to not look washed out" - Same here; I look sick without blush. Since I'm neutral, I can wear either pink (closer to wine) or peach blush.
I have an olive complexion with brown eyes, so a gold is really fun in the waterline 😊 As for hair, I love a side part. The volume looks great next to my face. And I’m team lob 😂 lobs are the perfect in between where it’s cute, fun, and still easy to maintain.
@@thisnthat7760olive at its core is a neutral tone with green but there are over tones that can affect the overall look. for example a cool toned vs warm toned olive complexion. warmer olives tend to have that almost yellowish honey golden glow to them especially with a tan. gold looks amazing on them but i would argue gold looks great on most olive complexed individuals. olive skin is just stunning and versatile!
I wonder if, as we move to more neutral blush colors and shadow colors along with natural and less dewy foundations, contouring will come back stronger. Without a strong blush and dewy finish people may find they need to contour to add dimension without color or massive highlights/dewy-ness. Also, trends are cyclical.
I was wearing my coral orangey blush and I tried on my favorite blue based red lip and realized it was totally off. Following color theory and my own coloring needs I needed a pink blush. It really bugs me when companies go for trendy trends rather than honoring our color stories.
Depends on texture, I have a natural wave so it gets better as it gets dirtier 😂, all I need is a refresh spray and scrunch. I have thick hair too so texture helps. If you have limp, flat hair then there is more work. Longer than my shoulders are so unmanageable.
Bobs are low-maintenance if you have straight hair, but it looks very matronly on me. I only like pixie or very long on me😅I like when everyone isn't looking exactly the same❤
I was surprised when Patrick Ta’s holiday palette turned out to be full of bright pink blushes. I felt that even at the time it launched it was on its way out. I guess I was pleased because then I didn’t want to buy it!
I'm a huge fan of victorian style bun. I can't imagine changing my preferences due to what is trendy now and will not be in two months. It was nice to hear about it tho 😊.
Dewy skin is definitely influenced by Korean/Kpop stars and i honestly don't believe its going anywhere. Younger people look great with that level of dew but it looks greasy AF and makes wrinkles 10x more obvious for anyone over the age of 35+. Unless you have an ingenue/ethereal face some makeup looks DO NOT look good on you.
i love to see trends as a period, when all of the people are trying the same thing. AND THEN when it wears out, people that found it especially flattering on them, just stick to it. and if no trend, they might not have ever tried it...
you are right about that! because i finally tried light pink blush this year and turns out it's my everyday blush now. Since I'm super pale it looks so flattering and natural on me, i can't and won't go back ♡
Why are we such hiveminds who care about trends? Like there's literally people who make the videos like "can we please bring this back" why don't yall just wear what yall want. Promise it doesn't have to be approved by the internet. Yall greatly irritate me
My theory about "classic" things (bob, red lip) is that they've been done so much that a lot of people have associated them with a person they don't like. Like I don't think a red lip looks bad but it gives me HUGE theatre kid energy
There was already a whole classification of people obsessed with winged liner/red lip "pinup" LARP who I disliked in the 2010s and at the end of 2023 Miss Toxic Gossip Train's goofy overline is the first thing I imagine when someone says "red lip".
I’ve personally noticed that shimmery blush seems to be on its way out, while highlighters appear to be on the rise. As far as the bob goes, I’ve found that they are FAR more maintenance than long hair; I can always come up with something pretty with my quite long hair, even if it’s dirty-ish; but never could with it cut in a bob. Also - I’m seeing the rise of “twinkly” eyeshadow and eyeliner-not a solid shimmer or “frost” - which I’m sure happy about. I personally need a little something-something of interest in my eyeshadow, w/o too much attention being drawn. I’m on the west coast, so maybe that’s got something to do with what I’m noticing and have experienced.
Hi Kelly! I loved this video. I was in high school in 1980 and it has been fascinating watching the 80’s and 90’s styles come back in with a modern twist!!!!
I've always been team dewy, even before dewy was a thing. That's mostly because my skin is so dry that by the end of the day I will always look soft matte.
Sweet Lord those false lashes are dreadful. I've never participated in that trend because it looked absolutely absurd! Good riddance. Now if we could only get rid of lip filler....
What I love about your videos is they bring some thoughtfulness to the beauty subject - I like getting your analysis rather than just an advertisement. The past couple weeks in particular have been bangers!
We dragon dry skin girlies will never give up the dewy products. It balances out our skin so it looks "normal" neither sweaty nor sandpaper. 😭 I dread the day that companies retire all their moisture-enhanced products for the latest trend.
As I have grown up and got a personality of my own and not relying on others for validation, trends are fickle for me. Seeing things that were popular less than a year ago never mentioned, people spending ££££ on products they will bin in a few months, feeling bad they don’t fit tends or their appearance doesn’t look right maybe even damaging themselves for a trend. Wears clothes, makeup, colours etc that suit your unique beautiful sleeves.
Honestly, I feel like colourpop is on their way out. It as so popular for a while, and with their constant launches I think people have become less interested.
You might be right about that. Personally, I love their eye shadows. But I have noticed that some YT'ers that used to review the new palettes, aren't doing them so much anymore.Without the influencers showing the swatches, and looks, the mainstream gals will go with the beauty influencers.
Not giving up my pink blush. I'm loving cool tones as a very cool-toned person. I love a red lip! I got sooo tired of nude lips! And yes, there's a bob and a red lip for everyone.
The mauve eye look is adorable on you today. It’s inspiring me to reach into my ND mini love palette. Also, I can relate to admiring bobs from afar - wigs can be a great way to explore different hair styles without losing all of our tresses.
This is an interesting video when examining trends within a societal and cultural context, but as for whether one should stop doing something because it's on its way out and we may not see it next year, I disagree (not that I believe Kelly is really saying that). If you like having a dewier complexion because you have dry skin, or you just like the look - keep doing it! Whether matte or dewy is in, I have always gone satin or "natural" because it's how I feel comfortable wearing makeup - trends be damned! Still love that hot pink blush? Own it. Hair is an expression of yourself (and bobs are forever), so wear it however you choose. Like who is anyone to tell you that parting your hair in the center is not in or cool anymore? What a ridiculous concept. What if that's your natural part? I hate getting caught up in trend culture because it imposes a certain timeline on how looking one way or the other is either acceptable or not. Rant over.
Not true, I will be 50 this year and I love matte skin. Not 90's flat matte, but soft matte. I have combo skin with a super oily t zone and dewy makes me look like I soaked my face in grease. 🤷♀️
It will depend on how the over 50 person' s skin type is and personal taste. Mine has been always suuuuuper oily and now is just oily. Body parts have become trends😕, I hope it won' t happen the same with skin finishes. Some oilies love the naturally jewy look, some other prefer to blot. Certain skin type being the trend, shivers, shi - vers🤦🏻♀️🥶🥶🥶
I saw the black platform sandals and said 'the 90's called and asked for their shoes back' lol I couldn't believe it! I feel like the bob is going to be trending for a little while because it's reflective of the 1920s. I'm contemplating cutting my hair again. It's SUPER cute.
I LOVE the bold pink blush (given it's blended well). I never heard of matching it with a light pink undereye....that's where we veer into grandma's-powdered-face territory IMO. I really love the berry shade from that Essence baked blush line for this, it's really flattering on my skin tone. I'll be keeping it.
You woukd die, I wish I could link the video, a girl was doing a video, after doing foundation, going in with cream blush, then pink powder under eyes , then setting entire face. Thats so much powder, but then they added POWDER blush on top of it all. Wild.
I was just thinking about enjoying more of a soft matte finish on my skin! Great minds…☺️I’ve gone from dewy gel primers to more blurring formulas like the Elf liquid poreless putty primer and the Caliray primer.
As a dry skinned person, I really hope that dewy and/or balmy liquid and stick blushes don't go away. I cannot where cream to powder blushes, or pressed powder blushes. They dry out my skin so bad, hang onto every flake, and just look awful. I like that there is such a variety of products out right now, from dewy to matte to natural finishes, and it would be nice if it stays that way.
Tbh my natural brows are the shape of the instagram brows so I just fill in a couple of sparse bits, add some brow gel, and call it a day. Feathered brows look weird on me - my brow hairs are pretty long so brushed up it just looks weird. Back in the Instagram brow days I got a lot of compliments when I wasn’t wearing anything on them
I was in my 20s in the 80s. The colors were not as heavy from 80 to 85. We used purple eye with Espirit clothes was hot lol.. I want matte so bad. At 62 yup mom was right!!
My favourite thing about the bob is how elegant and flattering it looks on everyone and a bonus is that men hate it, and when they say "aw I liked you better with longer hair" it's all the sweeter 😂❤
I’ve never worn lashes and prefer lightweight, wispy lashes for my eyes. I just discovered Honest Beauty serum infused lash tint and OMG, I’m not sure I even want to wear mascara again. It’s so good and very natural looking.
I pray to God you are correct about the cool tones coming back. I hate the orangey rusty brick brown colors and I can’t take it anymore. I can’t even find cool tones when I go to buy lipsticks.
This is not a makeup trend but I am seeing less extremely overfilled lips! I think when Tik Tok was much newer and so many filters were out it seems people went nuts overfilling their lips. I think filler is here to stay but the extreme over the top lips are not out there as much. At least not where I live. To each his own for sure yet there are so many great plumping products that give such a nice juicy lip that extra filler just seems more dated in my opinion!
Finally someone said it! The pink blush placed high up + the pink undereye is so 80s! But I do prefer how this modern rendition is paired with more nude makeup elsewhere on the face vs bold, colourful 80s looks.
@irinaotubela2356 the 80s blush was a low angled stripe under the cheekbone. Everyone was told to make a fish face, suck in you cheeks and do a stripe under the bone! Exception was long narrow faces, advised to do a horizontal stripe to "balance" or widen the face.
I think the big over the top pink blush is still great on a lot of people, but certainly not everyone. Same goes for copper, peach, or plum blushes. I think a healthy glow comes from a quality choice of colors according to your skin tone. Bright and bold is a fun look, but it can look out of place and silly if the tones aren’t right.
Same! I can' t do matte make up. My skin is too oily😅 It always look jewydewy in half an hour. Anyways, body parts and skin types becoming a trend is a big *NO* 🙅🏻♀️
Pink blush has never died and will never die for me personally, because it truly is my best shade for my coloring. I just apply it lightly. In other words, I just do whatever I want when it comes to makeup. 😉
i love dewy and don’t look good in cool tones like bubblegum pink blush, but have discovered that the yellow in my skin pairs really nicely with dewy purple/berry blushes which i’ve seen getting more popular, so hopefully that picks up more !!
Also, as someone who has studied stage makeup in different eras now, the 90s through the present, doing what looks best on your face shape and with your skin tone will always be better looking than following trends that don't look good on your skin tone or with your hair color. I figured out what looks best on my face and I will keep doing that forever LOL
This is how a lot of my pictures have remained timeless through the years. You can sometimes only tell the era due to the photo quality.
Seriously, like….I’m not going back to matte, I will be keeping my Dewey finish & my high placement blush bc that’s what looks best on my face lol
same
my favorite blush has always been pinks, purples, and mauves. anything cool toned. i tried warms back in the craze of 2016 and 2017 and i looked terrible :( took me years to figure out why “nudes” looked so good on everyone else but me. turns out, i needed a pink leaning nude or a mauve haha i was shook 😂
I am the same age as Brooke Shields and I remember when she set the trend for feathered brows in the early 80s.
The “feather brows” thing reminds me of that thing at science centers that you touched and it made all your hair stand up.
Lancome Mocha Havana blush is so gorgeous! Love bronzes and peaches and coppers!!!
I've never really liked the nude/neutral lip look, so I'm ready for that one to be on the down curve.
i gave up on the soap brows so long ago and went back to pomade. BRING BACK THE POMADE BROWS
I never liked the slicked back hair.. I always look at it on someone else and feel physical pain
Oh my gosh, you're giving me major Isla Fisher vibes! You're gorgeous!
You can stop me laminating my eyebrows when I'm dead!!!! 😂
I always struggled finding a red lipstick for me, but I have learned that I look best in brownish reds.
I could never get behind the white eyeliner in the waterline. I'm a dancer and as someone who has to do it for shows, I just don't think it looks flattering.
Red lipstick is my go to shade❤❤❤
My little sisters and I have a 20 year age gap.. she said she wants flare/bell bottom pants... I've never felt so old... oh trends...
Feathered brows, my brows do that naturally!😊
I’m an oily girl, I was never a fan of dewy!
Dying Trends (Discussion) Begins: @3:24

I’ll be so o enjoyed if the eye mustaches (obnoxious obviously fake and crazy false lashes) go for ever for good!!
Congrats on the sponsorship with colourpop!
Instead of red lip, I have my red raybans that I've had since 2013. The same idea 😊
That makes much sense. So much, because they didn't know when the panini shop would close and things go into production a long time ahead.
Masks are definitely still a thing and will continue to be a thing for a while, COVID isn’t done with us
Interesting take. I live in FL and never really ‘gave up’ my bold lip. I do think you’re onto something.
I just looked at this comment. I 100% agree, also feel like it falls in step with my glam lash/eye makeup theory.😊
Oops just realized I forgot to call it "paninni " 😅
Please forgive me and don't come for me or my family.🙏 ❤
Panini? As in sandwich?
It's taking way too long for cool metallic shadows to come back. As soon as Y2K became a hashtag, we should've seen frosty blue metallics hit the market.
My older sisters had several metallic cover girl eyeshadows then. Light pink, light blue and a frosty white are the main ones I remember
Wear them! There are updated palettes with all of those beautiful colors, liquids as well.
@@EMILYHERRERA I've been wearing an Urban Decay from around 2010, I think it's called Strip. Beautiful formula, a perfect steely blue silver.
I saw some from colourpop
Not gonna lie. I want it.
@@skateata1 CP is trickling them out!
I’m 51 and have seen lots of trends come and go. I believe things like a slicked back hairdo, a bob, red lipstick, and so on are timeless. I think it’s the trendy things we will look back on and cringe. The enormous eyelashes,
the spiky eyebrows, and the overly ‘dewy’ skin just to name a few.
I am 51 too and fully agree! Also super excited to see I am not the only older person that loves Kelly’s content ❤
Got me at enormous lashes! So true 😂
I see those kind of lash extensions that stand like a wall since childhood and to those days around me. :D
Dewy skin & blush look so healthy.. I'm not giving it up lol. Matte almost always looks more makeupy
Same same, glowy glass skin for me always. To be honest I have never seen person with matte look that doesn't look very artificial and just unflattering in a daylight! Even the so called satin look always looks kinda heavy close up.
yes, 100%!!
yes girl!! if it works it worjs
I’m staying with the dewy look. When you have wrinkles, dewy looks best!😊
Exactly!
I agree! Also with “contours” being warm toned 😭 so many true contours left the drug store and Sephora
@@ashleycooperpop oh my gosh that's so true, I can't even count anymore how many times I looked like I used a self tanner from the early 2000 as a "contour" like, carrot who? 🤣
I’ve only been able to find cool toned bronzer at an affordable price from Korean make up brands.
Yup I’m not over the Barbie pink blush either!!
I had a Trish McEvoy Barbie pink blush years ago. The makeup artist reassured me that despite how it looks in the pan, it will brighten the entire face. It did. It still does, and I still love it!
My pink blush goes with my pink lip and my red lip so well!! Can’t give it up.
Baby pink blush like red lips are timeless.
Me too! I love pinks and purple tones on my cheeks. Peach and orange look awful. It was very hard to find a cool toned pink until the Barbie trend. I also bought a few so they will last me awhile. ☺️
Hairstylist here 🙋🏻♀️ be warned short cuts like a bob are NOT low maintenance
Exactly. I had bob so often, especially when I was younger and than i grew my hair back to waist line and it never been easy.
As someone who has been off social media for over a year, I can clearly see I haven't missed much in regards to trends. 😂
This is inspiring. I am on week 7 of being off social media. I didn't think I'd last this long. It hasn't been as bad as I thought. I also haven't done as much as I had planeed to do, but it still the beginning. Definitely helping my mental health
Just like tuning into the midday soap opera 10-20 years later and its the same story with the same characters 😉 lol
@@casperinsight3524😂🤭 that made me laugh. so true.
How to be beautiful. Don't follow trends. Follow your own discernment.
Sammmmmeeee I still miss the one I had in high school from urban decay. Sydney grace has one that kind of gives a similar effect.
I cannot 😂
Looks like antennae to me 😅
I honestly think a bob is always a good idea, so many people look so good with a bob 😅
Not me. My face is a basketball and I look so much better with long hair hahaha
My theory is that every woman looks good with short hair
Maybe not a bob
but something between a bit longer than shoulder and chin leangth.
Never saw a women that cut her hair on shoulder length and did not look good or better.
Chin length is not for everyone but shoulder length looks makes something to the body/ face imo that makes it so beautiful
Edit: some people just rock the pixie/ bald look! forgot about that! but in general, short/ no hair looks better imo on everyone.
@@kristenweidermanyou are beautiful! You'd look gorgeous in bob!
@laurafaehnrich4261 shoulder length hair is too heavy on me. I suit pixie, chin length or bra to waist length. But shoulder length feels too frumpy and suffocating on me visually by cluttering up my neck or something?
Holy cow 😅 It was soooo refreshing! The whole UA-cam is full of Black Friday and I’m getting sick of it. Thank You for great content ❤
I really dislike the slick backed hair 😅
For my combo-dry skin, I will never give up dewy or luminous skin. It's so comfortable and goes with any eye or lip makeup. But I do think powdering certain areas of the skin can be helpful too like the T zone or for pores. But I think It's much easier to mattify later than start with a matte primer or foundation that will only feel heavy and uncomfortable on skin. At least for non oily skin types.
If I wear my T-zone w/out powder, I just look greasy. I've never gone full-on sheen & gleam. 😅
I agree. I’m combo dry too and matte makes me look even drier. So I’ll stick to a dewy look.
Haha yes I remember the sucked in cheeks and the tiny brush!
I have an olive complexion with brown eyes, so a gold is really fun in the waterline 😊
As for hair, I love a side part. The volume looks great next to my face. And I’m team lob 😂 lobs are the perfect in between where it’s cute, fun, and still easy to maintain.
Olive complexion isn't gold/yellow toned.. more like neutral tone.. stay away from anything gold... Bronze or copperish will be good on olive skin
The bob is great when you first wash and style it, but not having the option to do a ponytail is why it’s generally a short lived trend
It also takes a lot of work to stay looking good.
I only like pixie or very long on me😅I like when everyone isn't looking exactly the same❤
Agreed! Bobs look horrible on me. I’m either a pixie with an undercut or long down to my waist lol!😂
So glad the trends I never quit are coming back around 😂 I’m cool again
I was surprised when Patrick Ta’s holiday palette turned out to be full of bright pink blushes. I felt that even at the time it launched it was on its way out. I guess I was pleased because then I didn’t want to buy it!
Got 3 color pop eyeshadow pallets yesterday! Such a great deal. So glad the feather glued brow is going out
I'm a huge fan of victorian style bun.
Since I'm super pale it looks so flattering and natural on me, i can't and won't go back ♡
@@angeolina8090 I'm light to medium, but same!!
Why are we such hiveminds who care about trends? Like there's literally people who make the videos like "can we please bring this back" why don't yall just wear what yall want. Promise it doesn't have to be approved by the internet. Yall greatly irritate me
I would pin your comment if I could🙌🏻🖤
My theory about "classic" things (bob, red lip) is that they've been done so much that a lot of people have associated them with a person they don't like.
@wavylavender "theater kid energy" I'm dying!! 😂
I think pink blush will always be around because it looks beautiful on some skin tones.
I hope they dont. I feel like they will keep it. Just like you can still get matte products even though its not a trend right now.
I think K and J beauty will always be here for us.
White eyeliner was really big in the 60's. Also the "elevated messy bun" is just the 90's supermodel bun:)
I love a dewy look and I don't think I will ever go back, regardless the trends :)
I LOVE the pink blush. It looks fantastic on my very pale cool toned skin, and I’m still super into the overblushed e-girl blush look lol
I think enhancing your natural brow is better than buying into trends 😉
Rant over.
Nobody over 50 will ever go back to matte hell no 😂
i’m 23 and i won’t either !! the absolute farthest i’d ever consider would be satin haha
Not true, I will be 50 this year and I love matte skin. Not 90's flat matte, but soft matte. I have combo skin with a super oily t zone and dewy makes me look like I soaked my face in grease. 🤷♀️
@@samanthahernandez6286 my skin’s got drier each year since i turned 20 so that’s probably why i love a reallyyy dewy look
Back in the Instagram brow days I got a lot of compliments when I wasn’t wearing anything on them
I have something similar going on but my brow hairs are too light making me look like a potato so I use a tinted brow gel and they're perfect.
Love a matte look and side part. Tired of the glossy lips too. I miss matte lips, the painted on look. Great video btw.😊
I'd love to see the cool-toned trend expand past eyeshadow. Give me all of the cool-toned blushes and lipsticks, please!
I'm so fed up with all the warm tones also....
I love how thought out and well-presented your videos are!
Did anyone else call the center part “butt” hair twenty years ago? That just kind of hit my brain.
I have a pixie cut, if I do a center part I'm going to look like a '90s boy. Nothing wrong with that, but it's definitely not my journey
As a plus size girlie, a bob looks atrocious on me lol it make my head look so small in comparison to my body
I can't do matte makeup. My skin is too dry for that one.
