"Who the heck is this guy?" Mark, that's kind of how I feel whenever I listen to you play. You're one of the best teachers out there for this sort of thing and one heck of a guitarist in your own right.
I saw Bowies serious moonlighting tour here in Australia in early 80s..was so disappointed that Stevie wasn't on stage. Like you I was blown away by the guitar on that album. I read an article in downbeat magazine and how he was Jimmie Vaughns brother. I was a fan of the Fab t-birds. Got over my disappointment the following year when Stevie toured..in 1984 (i think), and saw him again a couple years later..best live shows I ever saw..highlight on his 2nd tour downunder was the Fabulous T-birds were supporting Stevie..Stevie and Jimmie did their famous twin neck guitar routine playing "pipeline"..will never forget it...glad someone is honouring the work Stevie did for Bowie on that album..its how I got into him..and I still love that record.
Wow! Great story. I would've loved seeing Stevie back then and seeing Jimmy and Stevie doing that would have been magic! I was a Bowie fan, and was knocked out by Stevie's playing. Same here - never heard of him until then ... but then listened to it all!
@@MarkZabel Yeah it was a magical decade the 80s. It was the decade when blues became mainstream with bands like Stevies and Jimmies having top 10 hits, and guys like George Thorogood, John Fogerty relaunching, zztop exploding, you had punk, metal, alternative, you had Bowie, The Stones, Springsteen..the list goes on and on. Amazing when you hear what kids listen to these days..so bland in comparison to what we had...
This is so cool, thanks, Seen Jimmy Vaughan with Ted playing the other night, he was a guest on his show... that was really special!!! This ones some icing on the cake! Love Kris IL
@@MarkZabel you can watch it on his spiritcampfire ect... he's been playing alot of music on them lately...I wish he'd have Derek St. Holmes on there!!! .maybe he'll see this,lol..." hey baby"....
I loved this song from the first time I heard it. We had covered it with my band on stage where I was playing the bass and doing the vocals. That was almost 30 years ago. Then I decided to revisit this timeless single by misters Pop and Bowie. I am considering to play and record all the instruments this time, and I need to play this short but powerful guitar solo. Your instructions and tab is very clear, easy to follow. This is quite encouraging on my part. Thank you
Great breakdown of SRV's solo. I had this album on cassette tape (look it up kids) and wore it out. Saw Stevie a few years later on the "Couldn't Stand the Weather" tour. Would love see Jimmie's solo on "Walking to my Baby" worked out. Classic T-Birds.
Hey mark that's cool that's StevieRay play the guitar solo to this song I gotta listen to the little bit more often my favourite Bowie song featuring Stevie Ray Vaughan is modern love.
SRV is listed as "Lead Guitar" for each song on the album if I'm not mistaken. Nile Rogers plays the rhythm on it as well - one of the best rhythm guys out there and a great producer.
Thanks a bunch for reminding this amazing solo, although Srv has been my all time fav. could you help me that i lost my zeal to grow and learn guitar more deeply ??
Well my request is pinballball wizard!!!ol.... you've been challenged Mark!!! Pete Townsend face off time. Really enjoyed the Sunday show!!!! The immagrints brought the banjo from Africa, tenor guitar, violin/fiddle. Radio and the old westerns ,and the grand old Opry, that was all that was really on the radio at the time. Ernest tub 1st to use electric and steel guitars...thanks again Mark love kris IL
Agree totally on the comment about Cat People - the intro and solo made me want to learn guitar. Took a LONG time to get good enough to play it - badly. Thanks for the great videos
I saw both Michael Hedges and SRV play not long before each died (Not together obviously). I am grateful I got to see them, sad I can't see them again and frightened of seeing anyone else lest I am cursed.
Thanks Mark, What kind of guit is that. Is it 24.7 scale? Love the birds eye fretboard. On most lessons I watch on Utube I want to either clean the guys fretboard or change his strings for him. lol I just rewrote this song and want to do a cover of it, so finding this tutorial was a great find. I also want to do a cover of "Lets Dance". Here's a couple of lines you might relate to, " I feel so tragic like Marlon Perkins on the Mutual of Omaha. Omaha, Omaha, Omaha. I feel so tragic like Marlon Perkins getting trample by herd of Water Buffalo. I feel so tragic like Marlon Brando parachuting into a Tornado." Thank you so much for that ZZ Top "Jes just left Chicago" trick. I could never get that turnaround to sound right. What's you 2nd and 3rd favorite ZZ songs? Rock On, tmart2000 (Boogie's Custom Guitars)
Thanks. This is a CP Thornton HTL (Homage to Leo). Chuck is a boutique luthier from Maine, and I was lucky to find this guitar used in Glastonbury, CN. Unbelievable, hand-built guitar. Unfortunately for me, the neck carve ended up not to my liking, so I eventually sold it. But it was truly a special instrument.
Thanks Mark, I'm down with anything Leo did. I build custom strats. When you say "carve" are you talking Neck Profile (back of the neck) or fretboard radius (curvature of the fretboard)? People do not understand how important those preferences are. I went from having extreme wrist pain after playing to having no pain at all by changing neck profile, fretboard radius, and nut width. And sharp fret ends should be illegal. I was getting nerve damage in my fingers from playing a guitar with sharp frets once. That guitar sounded great too. Rock on Mark. tmart2000 Do you remember what number you had? # 374 is for sale on re-verb right now. Good pictures of the guitar. Yeah that elevated body pickguard bugs me. I just thought it might of been the lighting in your vid. lol@@MarkZabel
Oh by the way, great playing. You're welcome to do the guitar work on my stuff if you want. Do you have a Bass too? That means I would only have to find a Tuba and Sax player for my version of "Lets Dance". That's right, a Tuba doing the Bass line with the Bass and little to no drums. That's how I roll. Just would need to find a Tuba and Sax player. I wish the guy that played Sax at the Peking Express parking lot would have gotten better. He was there for 3 years. :) @@MarkZabel
Not a dumb question at all! A beginner can learn the notes just fine. The articulation is another story, but it's okay to learn for a beginner. Might want to circle back a year or so later to make sure you're getting the right sound.

SRV has to be in the top 5 guitarists of all time. We lost him way too soon. RIP SRV. You never fail to amaze me on your shredding skills.
Yes, SRV was truly amazing! Thanks for dropping by!!

Can you do a Jimmie Vaughan lesson
Hi. Just a general, "here's Jimmy Vaughan's style" or something in particular?
Why not play the end solo of the original track where he goes all the way down the neck?
Sure, why not. Go for it!
how do you print the pdf?
You can download it (click on download link right below the tab on the site) then print it once you've downloaded it.
checked again "below" tab is blank screen
