As a Vietnamese I can confirm he's not a celebrity chef but he definitely spent time abroad judging by his english (at the time ofc, 2007-2009)

It’s very common in Vietnam dude. We catch some fish, shrimp, squid, or chicken, and ee cook them, and then eat em with rice liquor.

I know Duc personally as a family friend. Whenever I'm in Vietnam, I'm usually in the South, and my maternal side ventures out to Phan Thiet from time to time (they live in Go Vap, though, so it's a bit of a commute). If I'm not mistaken, he and I have caught 7 squid together since the last time I've been out there.
All that said, it's nice to see him make the big screen, even better that he and Ramsay are getting along.

This is the first time that I see Gordon Ramsay happy. I have to agree with him and Anthony B that Vietnam is food heaven. It has many beautiful beaches, bays, and caves. If you travel from North to South Vietnam in your trip, you will notice that each region has a different way of preparing the same dish, and I love every one of them. I will go there again in two years.
“They don’t realize how good of a standard they eat at for cheaply.” This is so true for every third world countries. Fresh produce are so expensive in the west. It’s easier to stay healthy when you live in a third world country. If only they have the same health system as the first world countries, they could outlive westerners.

i love how gordon is so diverse with his cooking. not only that, but he’s so respectful about it and even go with people who are 100% cultural and environmental friendly. he’s really into their culture and how they do it. really love gordon. :)
he's passionate about food so it makes sense for him to want to learn as much as possible about it and where some of it came from, and he has the money as well to do all of his travels. On a side note, he's one of the very few self-made millionaire who started from nothing that i respect and admire.
I love how Gordon visits exotic places to humbly learn about their cuisine, it gives him credibility in the kitchen when amateur chefs try to say “what does he know about cooking our food”

When I was there, in the village of Bac Lieu, there was this restaurant in the middle of water, you had to wait for the water to recede so there was a sandbar to the restaurant. What you see a lot of in Vietnamese restaurants is freshness, and hence flavor, they don't have freezers and microwaves like in many episodes of Kitchen Nightmares.
Gordon Ramsay has earned himself a fearsome reputation with his no nonsense approach as a chef. He didn't suffer fools and was very vocal in getting his views across. There is a lot more to Gordon than his rants: his dedication to food has took him all around the world with excellent coverage for us all to see. When not rattled he is a cheeky charmer. These videos are full of his humour and passion for food. I salute the guy!
