Imagine a young Black kid in Brooklyn, 40 years ago...hearing this for the first time. I wore my KISS shirt, MC jacket and all my friends had hair longer than their girl friends. I heard shit like, "Why you listen to 'White Boy' music?" They didn't understand that it's EVERYBODYS music!! To watch young people (of ALL races) react to this warms me....I crack a wry smile and think, "We was WOKE back THEN!" PEACE.✌🏾🤘🏾🖖🏾
You ain't alone! There were people like this everywhere but all spread out so it seemed like a lonely existence in that sense. Before anything, I'm a metalhead. Everything else comes after. YOU'RE my brother.
I love the idea that it's everybody's music, that's what good music is always supposed to be.
The Metal welcomes all, you just have be down....its the best community in the world
Facts
You can't just stick to one genre of music. So many beautiful instruments, melodic tones, etc to listen to.
One of the most powerful anti-war songs ever, by the greatest heavy metal rock band of all time.
They created the genre, arguably the Fathers of metal
@@jessacartel5973 Well, I heard them called the "grandfathers" of heavy metal recently, LOL, but you're right. 1st & best. Thanks for your reply.
Not anti-war so much as anti-politicians during war and anti-war profiteering. Anyone who votes for conflict deserves to be on the front lines of the first battle. Teddy Roosevelt, Andrew Jackson, and George Washington all fought on the front lines in their lives, so why should lesser politicians not be forced to do the same? The draft should effect the top 1% first, then we might have world peace.
@@robertphillips213 Indeed, friend, in any human social endeavor, there're always persons in charge, directing the activities of others. More respect & admiration is afforded those who lead by example. That's why we often see politicians & dignitaries turning the 1st spade of dirt in a ceremony opening the construction of a new public project. Only the very confident are willing to lead by example when it comes to DEstruction. And, sadly, war is a profitable enterprise. Recall that WW2 lifted the USA out of the Great Depression. EVERYONE is happy to get a slice of that pie. Until humans get a grasp of the TRUE cost of conflict to the human psyche, wars will continue. The bottom line in any conflict, whether a bar brawl or a world war, is that someone wants/needs what someone else has. Fairness & equity are ignored in such cases, as the instigators exploit the "us against them" dynamic. Greed & the quest for power are the drivers, & "peace" is only a word. Thanks for your reply.
@@cdfdesantis699 Perhaps it is time for those who profit to fight for it and for the poor to benefit from it. The last few conflicts have done nothing beneficial for the American economy or the nation as a whole, not even the price of gas has lowered despite us fighting in lands full of oil. Also, I believe it was removing any backing of the dollar by silver or any precious metal that "solved" the Great Depression when it was, in actuality, a death toll for the American economy one hundred years in the making. Inflation exists, corruption exists, and sooner or later people will learn that the dollar only has the value that the corrupt, lying government says it does; a government whose word nobody trusts is all that gives value to the dollar. Forget the zombie apocalypse, hello anarchist's paradise.
Over 50 years old and STILL RELEVANT today. Arguably one of the best songs ever.
Truth.
very relevant.
Love SWEET LEAF also.
Great song and one of the best Anti Wr songs of all time.
So relevant now.
Too much war, greed and corruption in the world.
I still remember this at a concert in Tampa, Fl. when I was 18yrs old.
I am a pretty old man now and have been listening to Ozzy for about 40 years
or more and watching younger people listen to this music and seeing their reactions
makes me very happy because it proves to me that you understand Ozzy's
message to all of us, that we are being used by the Elites.
I was a senior in high school when this came out and it’s still relevant.
Black Sabbath is Tony Iommi, but yes, its timeless.
Treating us like pawns in chess.
Timely, scary how relevant this still is.
truth
war never ends... forever relevent \m/
History doesn't repeat, but it usually rhymes.
Only the dead have seen the end of war.
Timeless, you mean
War never changes
What a lot of people don't even consider is as amazingly tight as this sounds, this was recorded ON TAPE. Not digitally, where you can erase one fucked up note and re record it till its right. They each had to play it this tight with zero mistakes. A lost art in today's world that people don't even appreciate anymore.
And high as hell
@@justthedrummer yeah that too😂😂 these guys were probably either stoned or tripping out of their minds and still did this shit so tight on tape. Fucking insane
@@justthedrummer i play guitar better when im high or a little drunk. Its amazing how much skill you hide behind apprehension and self doubt, remedied simply through a buzz. Careful though, that release from your own ego can become career destroying if abused.
Made live shows amazing too because since they practiced all the time, it sounded almost like the album in real life. Super great shows.
Sharron...! Iwa uh uh where's my burrito Sharron
Multiple people had reactions like "hold on lemme hit this blunt and think about that" i believe is exactly the reaction the band would have wanted
It's unfortunate that 2 generations of young people have been separated from the magnificence of musical instruments.
"begging mercies for their sins, Satan laughing spreads his wings." I still love this line SO MUCH!!!!
"Now in darkness world stops turning" is brimming with lyrical atmospherics.
Sooo metal
Best line in that song
My favorite line in the song!
“Whoever that was playing those drums…they was going crazy”
1000% agree.
Bill Ward fucking rules. An absolute titan!
Bill Ward, legendary drummer, has influenced so many others, continues to do so! 👍
Bill Ward he's a fuckin monster on drums
Funny story, I had a boss called Bill Ward. Different Bill Ward obviously, but every meeting we had I referenced Black Sabbath. Top bloke by the way :) On another note caught Sabbath with my son about 10 years ago for "The End" tour. One of the best concerts I have been to, and I've clocked over 50
@@jockmcque3018 did he catch on to your Black Sabbath references? I imagine with that name that he's probably heard it a hundred times before. Kinda like the character Michael Bolton in the movie Office Space lol.
@@mastod0n1 Yes he's pretty switched on, love that movie. The killing of the photocopier was classic
I'm 63 yrs old, how is it possible that none of these people have ever heard of this song! This original line up of sabbath was my first live concert at 16.
If they never heard this think of all the hundreds of hours of music they have in front of them. Im 60 this year and this song was a staple of my music I would listen to.
That's what we're over here saying....
It's not that out the question. I'm 27, and I heard this song for the first time a few months ago, because a few months ago I started to do a deep dive into the history of Metal, but if I didn't decide to do that, there's enough music being made that you can just keep listening to current stuff and never look at what came before, and most people do that.
Well, you know how Millennials are. "If it happened before we were born, then it can't be important."
Because we got our music from the radio that played older stuff all the time and the new generation doesn't. They never had that infusion influence of other genres.
You don’t just listen to songs like this. You feel it. There a whole experience when you listen to them
EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!
Towards the end Mr V Reacts is just laying back with his eyes closed and feeling it.
Love that man.
This song is one of the best and most literal examples of the endless cycle that is humanity. It's been relevant for centuries past and centuries to come.
until people understand this, they will never be able to sustain “never again”.
B.Y.O.B is one of the few song I can think of that will have as timeless of relevance. As this song
@@carterwebster5866 100% agreed my brother. 100%
Not too many centuries left in this world, I wouldn't give Earth another 50 years, literally!
@@kellyslate7536 Earth has billions of years left. You mean Humanity.
Back when I was still in a band (garage level) I asked the drummer if he wanted to cover War Pigs. His response was something like "hell no", with fear in his eyes.
Hah, my 58yo drummer is keen as fuck to do this in our pub band. I know it just got to polish it up a bit.
That's a fun song to play on the drums, but you MUST get yourself in the right frame of mind, like every other song, but different lol. Good luck to you.
I used to play this song in the clubs. If you CAN do it and do it well...the crowds will love it!!!!!
@@normansawatzky4778 Only problem is i find it hard to play and sing the middle riff bit, polititions hide them selves away etc. So I have to get the 62yo lead guitarist to learn it, he should know it as it is his generation but he is a blues guy. I'm 45 by the way, youngest in the old band! Thanks for the encouragment man
The drums in this song are closer to swing big band jazz than they are to rock and roll. That's what sets Bill Ward apart.
I’ve become addicted to certain reaction videos….I’m 51 & have been a music lover for as long as I can remember & it warms my soul to watch these young(er) people experience certain songs for the 1st time & not only get what the artist(s) are trying to put across but are genuinely excited about hearing something that’s new to them….it gives me hope for the future that they enjoy music with substance & not just whatever mindless bullshit fm radio tries to force feed us
Speaking for my generation (30 and under) and those to come, dont know how much hope there is, i mean to never have heard black sabbath in their life before this??? What, have they been living under a rock? If you truly love good music, you should come across this at one point or another. But we get programmed by popular radios to listen to generic pop songs (which nowadays includes all sorts of genres)..... And are those all first time reactions or general reactions? Cause it seems like first time reactions to me.... says a lot about the people with the jimi hendrix picture as well...
@@eltobi10 The internet and reaction channels that are presented here are actually the light and hope for music in the future. The internet by giving the world a near endless font of music and creativity to explore and reaction channels by having a viewership that can influence what the reactor sees. I've seen so many reactors having a first time reaction to music from 40's thru the 90's, 50 years of music that doesn't get played all too often, drowned out in the bullshit that is modern music. But them being exposed to good music, to music back when it had soul, or even modern music from indie artists who share the soul of their fore-bearers, who take inspiration from the greats of the previous decades and carry it forward With the internet they have that voice, and people have that avenue of exploration and interaction. Don't be discouraged, these new generations will discover good music, even if it's only by word of mouth of their friends and family discovering truly exceptional music for the first time.
Ozzy said they were called commies back then for being anti war. Powerful song. 🔥
This song was released in 1970 over 50 years old. Timeless.
The videos with the film added is from 2009 short film called "Motherland" and nothing to do with Black Sabbath.. the film changes the meaning of the song.
second best year in music history after 69 lol
@@rickybutler2826 How so?
FACTS
The sad part…. It still is relevant. Can we not learn anything? Right or Left.
The drums on this song fucking kill me. Everytime. Goosebumps. Rudimentary and raw at the same time. Played with purpose and soul
Same here the drums blew me away
That's Bill Ward one bad ass drummer. He went on to play with other bands but nothing like Black Sabbath.
Just think my friend, this was uncharted territory...the birth of heavy metal. Bill Ward for sure was a founding father...
I had to get out my big headphones for this one. What a great mix
Bill Ward is the greatest rock drummer of all time.
After 52 years War Pigs is still the the # 1 heavy metal song of all time !
💯💯💯💯
The first heavy metal song in my view
100%
Shout out to the compilation creator of this, the timing match up and time alone it took to create this shows you give a shit, much respect
One of very few bands that will be relevant forever. God I love Sabbath.
Amen brother.
Do you have any other examples of bands that will be relevant forever? (serious question)
@@user-bv7jc The beetles and Queen for sure. Then probably Metallica for their influence and the Napster stuff. I think there's an argument for ledd zeppelin and ACDC but I probably wouldn't put them on the same level as Sabbath, the beetles or Queen.
@@danjackson1016 🤘 thank you
@@user-bv7jc Possibly Tool, Sabaton, System of A Down,Meshuggah.
Everyone around here talking about how great and relevant this song is to this day, and while that is absolutely true, I wanna give huge props to your editing skills dude. Top notch
I agree, professional editing skills!
This is your semi-annual reminder that “War Pigs” and “Deck the Halls” are written in the same meter, and as such each one’s lyrics can map perfectly to the other song 😅
kind of like the animals song "house of the rising sun" lyrics can interchange exactly with the church song "amazing grace". its kind of crazy when amazing grace is about the son of GOD who rose from the dead, on the day celebrated as EASTER.
That air raid siren still sends chills down my spine! As a cold war era kid, I was convinced that would be the last sound I would hear before I died!
You're so right. I grew up on nuclear first strike Air Force bases
50 years later, still the best metal composition.
Just crazy that there's been 50 years of metal.

Great statement . I feel the same way
Just listen to it every day!
For all you young folks out there ... This album .. Black Sabbath Paranoid is probably the first "Heavy Metal" album ever released ...1971 ... it defined the heavy metal genre ... only imitations came after it ... War Pigs is a comment on the War in Vietnam which was running wild back then and the War Pigs alluded to in the song are Nixon and his cronies for extending the war ... I must have listened to this album 500 times since I was 12 when it was released ... it has stood the test of time ... and now I'm going to go and listen to it again!
1971 was an awesome year for pretty much all rock music. Lots of great gems.
1970
I’d go with Sabbath’s self titled first album as the first heavy metal album.
Wonderful seeing the brothers tuning into the power of Black Sabbath
I hope they all know the lyrics to this anti-war anthem were written by Sabbath's bass player, Geezer Butler. Rock on.
Geezer wrote all Sabbath's lyrics

Great editing. Songs like this are literally time capsules that people of a newer generation may open up and say "nothings changed." This IS when all cylinders of making music are hitting.
Hard to believe that so many people had never heard this song before! It is a classic!!
The cough "remix" at 3:32 was genius - hats off to you Derek
The fact that Tony Iommi has prosthetic fingertips is the most amazing thing about Black Sabbath....
Never heard that in all of my 50 years!
@@lifewuzonceezr lost his fingertips during the last day of his job. He almost gave up but it lead to him change up his guitar setup and is how he got his unique sound.
The first finger tips he used he made himself, they still didn't work that well, so he used banjo strings and detuned his guitar to make it easier.
That's how he got such a powerful sound out of his guitar, the strings must have been flapping like bastards!
@@lifewuzonceezr he melted plastic bottle caps and molded them around his fingertips so he could continue playing guitar.

The most relevant song of all time, a forever song, one of the very best songs in any genre. Still killing it 52 years later. Sabbath IS Timeless. 🎸
this song is so fucking good it is almost surreal. I am 55 and heard my babysitter play it (she was a teenager) in 1974 and I was 6 years old. Sounded amazing and hearing these guys hear it as adults just takes me back to that moment..... Thank you thank you thank you:)
this song was written 50 yrs ago and still very relevant today!!
The guitarist, Toni Iommi, largely considered to be the "Godfather of Heavy Metal", lost the tips of two fingers while working a sheet metal cutting machine in his youth. He created his own finger tip prostheses, out of melted down syrup bottles. He was depressed because he thought he would never be able to play guitar again. He's widely regarded by most metal guitarists as their "inspiration" for playing. His sound is so deep and wide, foreboding, and just brings you to a whole other place. Every riff today has it's roots in one of his he made 50 years ago.
Basically, he's to metal what Django Reinhardt is to Jazz: the guy who found a way to use a disability that should have ended his career as an opportunity to reinvent his playing and influence entire generations of players in his wake
Whew that's determination to keep doing what he 😍
The metal finger tips brought an insane sound.
Lemmy kilmister is the godfather of heavy metal. No ifs ands or buts.
@@hansi357 Incorrect.
I'm always surprised that more people don't mention Geezer Butler on bass in this track. He absolutely turns this from a really good rock anthem, into a complete masterpiece.
Geezer is a monster with them 4 strings.
Such an amazingly dark and powerful song. Perfectly depicts the terror of war and the anger towards evil leaders who make war happen. I love the air raid sirens in this.
Lost In Vegas during their entire Sabbath-on was great to watch. Jumping up and down, and just genuinely enjoying Black Sabbath. that was makes metal great, especially Black Sabbath, it incorporates everyone and drags them in to become fans forever.
I loved watching them discover Master of Puppets
Black Sabbath still as brilliant live.
Bill and Geezer's jazzy rhythm along with Tony's masterful blues riff playing, and Ozzy's haunting voice as a cherry on top is timeless.

Preach!
How on earth can they not know ozzy?????
It is kind of an eye opener to see younger adults who have had little to no exposure to some of the best rock music ever made. Can't blame them, they were born a few decades after these songs were on the radio and spinning on our turntables!
It's so good to see them appreciate it.
We grew up in the best time. We had the best band's no one else can compare.
True, but young people hate it when we say that.
These young pups don't know sh!t about music unless they are fluent in the classics. Sucks to be like them- hungry and licking the pages of cookbooks thinking that is satiation 😆😆
One of the most beautiful songs ever made. Historical also. To know what was happening in the world when that song came out sheds some light on the meaning of that song. The media at the time wouldn’t report the truth. Without art we only learn the winner’s side of the story. With art there are no limits. Without free speech we won’t have art and won’t know the truth.
This song will never not be relevant. Nor will it never not be pure 🔥
The montage of people lighting up their blunts to the intro is amazing. Everytime I hear that riff my first thought is “this riff is pure marijuana” well done

I grew up on this shit, and now, all these decades later, to watch all you youngsters appreciate it, I can almost cry.
Pure talent, no tracks, no autotune
I will say, you could NOT publish a song like this today and get on the top 100 list. It's so different. The way it's processed, the way Ozzy sings. It's all so raw.
You have lots of artists bringing these kinds of lyrics out but most of them aren't as near of a big name as Black sabbath and they aren't as cool sounding.
@@monkey_ish4117 thing Is though black sabbath at the point of releasing this album weren’t a huge name at that point, after Paranoid got released that’s what really shot them into the forefront of music

Few have inspired more air guitarists than Tony Iommi. He really knew how to write catchy guitar riffs.

@@slide_drexler It would have been a tragedy if he hadn't chopped his fingertips off......he would never have tuned down and The Sound may never have been heard.....
The Black Sabbath guitar sound was born from Tony Iommi's cutting the tips of two finger of his feet hand off. He made his own plastic tips and still does. But, he didn't have enough strength in the fingers, so he detuned his guitar, giving birth to the Black Sabbath sound. The other band mates tried to convince him to switch hands, but he refused. I was 14 when "Paranoid" came out. Welcome to my world, guys! Glad you enjoy it as much as I.
love watching younger generations finding out just how legit the boomer and Gen X artists were back in the day, to me the guitar work in this has a Hendrix vibe in a way, for whatever reason nobody seems to pick up on it though.
“Politicians hide themselves away,

“Why don’t they go out to fight,

I first listened to this when I was a teenager in the seventies and I have to tell you that it really freaked some parents out when they heard it coming out of their kids rooms along with other Sabbath Doom and Gloom classics. If it was released today, it's daunting sound would still make some parents wonder what their kids have gotten themselves into. The Ozzy portrait tattoo on my right arm thank you for your reactions

So nice to see the new generation appreciate this classic! I remember listening to Sabbath, Maiden, Deep Purple, back in the day! This song so heavy!! I love it!!♥️♥️
It's songs like this that defined that period as the best music era of all time. So many talented people putting out such great music spanning all the genre's. from Blues, to Motown, to Country, to Disco, from what we call Classic Rock to the birth of Heavy Metal. Every genre at that time was listened to by most people and appreciated. Such talented people playing instruments, no tuners, remixers were rarities. That era will live on as the greatest, widest ranging, most popular music ever.
I have been listening to Black Sabbath for well over 40 years. Their music transcends what is pushed on the masses as music today. It makes me happy that those reacting to this song, in the video, are reacting in the positive. War Pigs is just one song in their catalog. May you listen to much more and enjoy it as much as you did this song. God bless.
Perfect timing my man, thank you. We should all buy the download of the music, get it back on airplay right now.
And that, ladies and gentlemen is how Ozzy rolled.. back when you could kinda sorta understand wtf he was saying. Lol The man has been speaking the truth for 50yrs. Aint no diff today.
You folks are a little young but the concerts back in the 80's and early 90's was just crazy awesome...🎉🎉🎉
50 years ago, my mom and dad bought me my very first stereo of my very own. It was a cheap little setup, with a built-in 8-track tape player. I didn't have any 8-track tapes, so I went to the store and bought the Paranoid album by Sabbath. That's the first time I ever heard "War Pigs" and from that point onward, I was a metal junkie. Still am.
Never clicked a video faster in my life. Now I’m on my lunch break jamming out to Sabbath and all these different creators. Music is indeed a universal language
I'll never forget the time I saw Cypress Hill play this when they did a metal show, back in 1999 or something. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
I love that people across different genres love the same music.
The dude in the red hat and shirt off “how’s it even possible for a song to sound this good” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Classic song. Came out 3 years before I was born.
It's apparent the folks who were just hearing the music rather than the ones who watched the video and understood the power and meaning of this metal masterpiece. The lyrics, music and the video are truly incredible and powerful.
You need to do both I believe tho. Idk which is more important but sometimes reading the lyrics and watching the video can take away from the actual music
Sometimes there is nothing wrong with just enjoying the music.
A petty pet peeve of mine is reactors getting hung up on the videos instead of the song.
That video is fan made and misleading.
@@yodasears how is any of this misleading?!? I disagree completely, this is how the Brits lived in London every day as the effing nazis tried to bomb them into submission... Thank God Winston Churchill was there to save England and we sent them arms under the lend lease act policy by FDR. There is NOTHING misleading here.
I'll never forget hearing Sabbath for the first time in 1979 I was in 10th grade. It changed my life. Just like Zeppelin did a couple years earlier.
Grand Funk and Alice Cooper did it for me.
Iron Maiden did it for me
Until the Summer of 1980, I would only listen to The Beatles, ABBA and Oldies. My best friend took me into his basement and said, "I am gonna play Black Sabbath. You are gonna sit here until you learn to like it!" He put on Volume 4 first. When Supernaut started playing, I was hooked! I have been a fan ever since.
That drum kit is killin it.
Yeah, War Pigs... Truth from the 70's, more relevant than ever. Let the words sink in.
I always knew music would bring us all together. Music is the thread that stitches is together as a society.
In the immortal words of John Lennon and The Beatles, "COME TOGETHER, RIGHT NOW!!!"
If we don't, they win.
Awesome! Thanks for putting this together. I was crying from people's reactions when the third (?) verse came around. "They ain't spitting nothing but facts."
Every time you release one of these wonderful videos, I am reminded of another artist that I have been taking for granted by not having spent a lot of time listening to them much lately. Black Sabbath is no different. Please keep doing these; they're all so great and well put together.... Thanks!
When any of this bands members are not with us anymore we should never forget what pleasure they individually gave to so many people all over the world
Love seeing you younger people's reaction. I was born in 1960 and grew up with the best music had to offer. Keep listening...
1974 I was 13 and I listened to this for months in the big head phones of the day. Loud as it could get. The pink Floyd welcome to the machine. Than I proceeded to learn guitar, bass , drums and multiple track recording.
Pink Floyd ‘Animals’
The political implications are applicable to modern day more than ever.
Hard working man, missing parts of his fingers still managed to create and build a new genre with his friends.
Black Sabbath was a band you had to see in concert. It was a life changing!
I was 13 in 1970 and this was the music we grew up on! Classic!!!
I have been harvesting Souls for Black Sabbath on You Tube for years, this video is a perfect example of why.
"You can boogie down a soul train line, and learn about the atrocities of war at the same time". I like that.
Derek Brooks! Another excellent video. As an editor myself, I know this takes a lot of effort. You're doing an excellent job. Keep'em coming!
Metal is meant to be for the masses! It's about us and our struggles!!! Everyone is a metal head! They just have to listen to the right song baby!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I listening to this on a cassette player on the school playing field one lunchtime in 1977..... couldn't have imagined it would still be one of the worlds best songs when I was in my 60s.
Flawless as always 👍
Born later 70s, Ozzy was my high school nickname 🤘🔥
Always listening to their cassettes
There are good songs
There are great songs
And there are timeless songs
"I didn't hear nothin' but facts"...
Epic song. Some of these reactors understood the message.
Black Sabbath are the "OG's" of Heavy Metal. I would know because I am 62 years young, and a big fan!!! "If it's too loud, you're too old", LOL!!!
