Thank you for reaching out to us, Nancy! Please follow the below instruction for cleaning. After powering off, please wait 2 to 3 minutes for the unit to clear the lines. Remove the dirty water tank by pressing the release button. Lift out the inner float mechanism, then pour the dirty water down the drain or toilet. Remove the filter cover, then lift out the filter and wash the filter with soap and water. Please allow it to air-dry completely before reinstalling. To clean the brush roll, pull the latch to remove the cover, then lift the door to open. Remove the brush roll by pulling up on the side tab. If the hair is wrapped, cut it away by running scissors along the groove in the brush roll. Wash thebrush roll, cover and doors and allow them to air-dry before reinstalling. To reinstall the top brush roll cover, connect the two hooks at the bottom, then push forward until it clicks into place. To clean the hand tools, press the release button, then pull the tab to remove the window and bristle strip. Use soap and water and allow them to air-dry before reinstalling. To clean the hose, attach the hose-cleaning tool to the end of the crevice tool and turn on power. Point the tool to the floor, pull the trigger, and the cleaning solution will be sucked into the hose to clean the interior.

The spray on the hand tool comes out in an odd location making it awkward to use. I returned it because of that.
