I agree i have the exact same feelings. It got better as you go and I appreciated that. Each one had a completely different vibe and never overstayed its welcome. I wish they would have done new set pieces i think that could have been a cool addition but I have a feeling the Lighthouse DLC will do that.

Have to say, was a bit disappointed.
Alan Wake 2 was my vote for GOTY so this isnt from a position of hate, and I still did enjoy the DLC but I would have much preferred to have had 2 more chapters (1 - 1.5 hrs each) of Saga and Alan keeping the exaxt same style as the base game. More Mind Place / Bright Falls area and another Dark Place.
The DLC tried too hard to be weird and wacky it lost the essence of the game. I mean, at what point, if any was the DLC scary?? It wasnt.
And each episode was far too short, a waitress killing some wolves and some taken and mini boss with a boring character with zero personality. A revisit of Coffee World with next to no enemies, 1 puzzle and a pointless stealth bit at the end and finally a trippy time warp which ultimately consisted of walking through the woods for 5 mins, an extremely basic puzzle area in the hotel, a comic book cutscene, retro side scroller, 2 mins of wasteland walking and an MSDOS program that took longer to read than the rest of the DLC took to play.
Hardly any enemies at all, 2 puzzles, zero story and just some funky music.
I am praying we get some actual Alan Wake-esque gameplay with Lake House.
