ANIMAL: The Peperami Game Nobody Wanted
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- Peperami - It's a bit of an animal, or to take the game's terrible tagline: It's a "byte" of an animal, which honestly should give you some indication of the level of humour on offer here. Ade Edmondson deserves better than being a point and click sausage.
MS-DOS gaming at its absolute worst.

It’s been two months and I still can’t get the line: “the slimy sheathe your Pepperami sleeps in” out of my head
@SirTraleen there's no other way to describe it. I do apologise if it's affecting your meat snack based purchasing decisions though.
Every game needs a screaming anthropomorphic food product that might or might not contain traces of meat
It's impressive that someone managed to make a point and click adventure game with terrible control. That's next level.
Fair play to you. That looked like hard work! Rather you than me. Thank you 🤣
This reminds me of Kingdom o' Magic, a terrible game that I had the misfortune of being on the QA team for when I worked for SCi in the mid 90s - desperately unfunny, irritating, baffling, hideous pre-rendered graphics, full of bugs (it had reached a point where we were told "if it doesn't crash the game we don't care") and generally an unpleasant experience from start to finish - and it turns out the two games had a script writer in common. (Also it seems Animal was partly written by Jason Bradbury, presumably of Gadget Show fame.)
Pahahaha, these are incredible facts that I must now circulate
I still think "It's a bit of an animal" is a work of genius as a slogan. I mean.. it literally is. A bit. Of an animal. Probably the arse.
I literally just got the joke....I'm 48 BTW....fuck my life.
We had those here in Finland. And yes, they were much longer in the nineties. Then again, so was I. I think.
I must admit the fart did make me laugh.
Is it weird that, despite this video, after watching it all the way through I now really want a Peperami?
First we get an Adrian Edmonson Spectrum game, and now an Adrian Edmonson DOS game? Bottom fans eating good today (oi, steady)
Indeed - as for the late great Rik Mayall... well, he worked on the PS1 game "Hogs of War" (a 3D Worms clone featuring pig soldiers).
What the everloving Harry H Corbett was that all about? You suffer for your art sir!
The california raisins bit was utterly inspired.
I believe we can blame Jason Bradbury for the story in Animal.
Yes, that Jason Bradbury, Mr Gadget Show.
I've only just discovered this - at least he's not SOLELY responsible, but still...
I believe he now owes me a pint.
Good heavens
The video actually made me laugh out loud, unlike the game... nice one!
Nice! You even clipped in AZ from Heel vs Babyface! I met Ade once, he was ok. I wish I knew about this game at the time, I would have ripped him for it
I watched this while eating a peperami. I am not ashamed. Vinny x
Just found my Stretch Armstrong-alike Animal, wish i could post an image here! Hes wearing a white top that says Biffi on it - guess it was some kind of cross promotion but for what, i have no idea. 😂
It has a football badge on the shirt but its a picture of a 🥦 with a crossed ⭕ - mysterious!
BiFi was another in the same line, I believe. I've had to do a lot of Peperami research, haha.
@@RoseTintedSpectrumyou're right! It does say BiFi! Thanks for solving a mystery that's existed since I picked him up at a car boot ❤
As a professional VO artist and a man with ears, you can hear that when he does the Pepperani voice, he's just standing back from the microphone. You can actually hear the distance. And it's shit.
But the pepperani has a big willy.
The Peperami IS a big willy
The carrot fella is where the real action is.
Pepereinstein.. the pepper that's a lightbulb.. for reasons..
6:39 The Noise from Pizza Tower
Holy sh*t how did i not realise it was Ade?!
Bottom AND a Royston Vasey clip... good times! 🤣👌
Having grown up with pepperami in uk. Then moved to canada as an adult and discovered pepperoni sticks. I feel like we got cheated badly in the uk
Wait a minute this isn't a spectrum game, great video mate.
It wasn't until watching this, with the related advert in it, that I realised their slogan was literally telling people what was in it: 'It's a bit of an animal'... probably all lips and arseholes ("the perfect woman, eh?", as a girl I knew once joked).
Anyway, great vid; taking the grenade to save others having to play it as always. I'd say keep up the good work but it must be fucking painful sometimes.
23:54 This was the only Footage they used for the TV AD to promote this game and one issue of Mean Machines Sega said a Sega Saturn port was planed at one time somehow.
Aha! I wonder if they made that specifically for advertising and then just randomly threw it into the game?
That was a nice ZX Spectrum game!
How did they make the graphics so advanced??
Was this from a time Peperami Animal had a problem with vegetables? It would explain the anti vegetable motif on my strangely moist feeling plastic Animal. I don't remember the campaign but i can imagine it.
I think that was just the general gist of Peperami, yeah - the whole "It's meat therefore vegetables bad"
I'm from Bahrain and I remember it being sold in the pork sections of the supermarkets . I remember trying this in DOS for a few hours without any idea of how to get past the bloody biscuit bouncers. Love Ade Edmondson but don't think I could ever return to Animal. Bless you for getting through all of that!
It seems they've been sold on and off in various other countries over the years, I've also seen Germany listed. They may well have entered and removed themselves from other markets over the years, but I know Unilever ended up selling the brand on, and it's maybe a list of the CURRENT areas it sells in that I've found.
Never knew this game existed. Missed out on so much culture, sigh.
Subscribed! Has anyone ever told you that you sound like Jez from Peep Show? The cadences are almost identical!
@bigmanting4579 not until this past 2 weeks, where I've seen it mentioned about 40 times, hahaha. I can't hear it myself, but apparently a lot of folk think it!
@@RoseTintedSpectrumkeep up the good work mate! Your videos literally get me through the day! Appreciate all the time you put into making them
Sterling work there. Putting up with Adrian Edmondson's career nadir so we don't have to.
I remember wanting to get this game 😆 dodged a bullet there I'd say!
Sigh... in an alternative timeline, there's a great, voiced, Young Ones game...
Just amazing.
Unfortunately I have internalised my enjoyment of your video as enjoyment for that peppermint log.
My brother's in the UK at the moment, so I might see if I can get him to mail me one.
Finding out that the footage at 24:00 isn't what the game is like, it's just what they showed on GamesMaster to make it look like it's a bit like Doom and was nothing more than Bullshot is heartbreaking
Until... Eventually... IT IS LIKE THAT.
For reasons we will never fully understand.
@@RoseTintedSpectrum you're right, I should have waited until the end of the video before commenting like a loon
Still love me some Peperami. Can't believe I let the game slip by.
Oh I remember having this,or maybe my housemates, I remember the eating manhole to be a biscuit.
I have it mixed up with Little Big Adventure and Grim Fandango. But I feel like those other two were a lot better.
Nice video , thanks for making all your videos, I like them a lot.
I can assure you 100% that those games are a LOT better, hahaha
Toilet dunked Pepperami is a serving suggestion.
It's kind of mind blowing. I would have honestly given them a bit more credit if they had come out with a brand-skinned platformer. At least then it would make sense that a minimal amount of work would turn into a terrible game. This actually feels like a ton of work went into it - which makes it oh so much worse... Fantastic watch :)
XD Game look's like it make's about as much sense as Armed & Delirious
absolutely lol this entire vid haha. poor Ade.. :) and absolutely lol the doom mini(?)-game? amazing.
Can barely even call it a mini-game, I think those FPS segments ended up taking up roughly 20% of the gameplay time.
If I used a guide solidly from start to finish, probably closer to 50%!
@@RoseTintedSpectrum the ol' bait and switch scam - hide a superior but incomplete full game in a shockwave point and click adventure.. pretty clever to be honest. :)
I like the graphics on the Peperami but the rest of the game looks like a bad itch io game 😂 the biscuit looked good too, how did they manage to have nice character art and shocking backgrounds?
Outwardly loud and non-sensical is surely what you expect from an Ade Edmondson game!
Agree they are horrifying but it suits the game 😂 the rest of it just looks cheap and generic. Should have made the whole world out of clay like Skullmonkeys.
The cutscene was showing the characters were deliberately annoying I think?
MM...FOOD
Yes?
Wait! The skin was to be removed first?! I thought that was like the sausage skin and used to chomp on it. Shit..... I might have enjoyed them more.
Matt Smith eats sausage condoms, pass it on
Currant fucking day!
So one time on twitter I saw Larry Bundy (fact hunt host) mention he was one of the tango actors who tango'd people.
Dude really got around UK media huh!
Christ, really? He's been everywhere
we know it as "BiFi" in other places in Europe
A Credit to my Naïve Youth.... When I first tried a Pepperami back in the age when it first hit store shelves... Yes I was attracted by the insane Adverts... The fact it came WRAPPED In a "Condom" threw me off... I genuinely did not know if you took the "Condom Off" or not - And ended up chucking the thing away!!!!
They should have made the Ice Cube smuggling Peperamis game. They should still make the Ice Cube smuggling Peperamis game.
Just wakin' up in the mornin', gotta thank God
I don't know, but today seems kinda odd
No barkin' from the dog, no smog
And I just bought a stick of meat with no hog
@@RoseTintedSpectrum Your brain needs to be preserved and studied by future generations. Very impressive.
I gotta be honest I wanted this game enough to get the big box, not saying it isn't bloody awful but I did get some strange enjoyment from it 😜
I could feel your pain coming through the video. I think a game like this is far more offensive than (say) Jack and the Beanstalk, since this was probably made by a large team who spent probably over a year designing it and having meetings and discussions about it. Presumably at no point did any of them ask "wait, isn't this just tedious unfunny crap?"
God, this was even worse than the Clumsy Colin KP Skips game. More food sponsored game reviews please!
I'm in Oregon and never seen these. It'd stand out from that weird second wrapper for sure.
Perhaps it is more of a mexican thing
Interesting! They've since changed hands, and they seem to sell under different names in different places too; BiFi in Europe, for example. I wonder if it's hiding in Oregon under a different name...
JUST LIKE ICE CUBE.
This looks like something which would have wowed me on the Amiga in 1991, but for a DOS game from 1997... eh, it's passé - nothing innovative and everything just feels flat, and by that point, there were far better point-and-click adventure titles such as the Discworld games for Windows.
Pperami quality be downhill nowadays😢
It's like someone attempted to cram a bunch of the worst ideas from '90s gaming into one place. Obnoxious character voices! Playing the same annoying sound constantly! "Death of adventure games" puzzle design! Tedious Doom clone!
At least jokes in this game are as tasteful and sublime as the advertised product!
This was ace! Thank you!
I think my favorite corporate junk-food tie-in is still Chex Quest, although Cool Spot has its charms, too. Come to think of it, I still need to play that McDonald's game Treasure made...dang, it's an actual genre...
That Treasure game is actually pretty good - and there's also the Quavers one that came out on Amiga (Push Over) and a few others that managed to actually do a decent job of it. I suppose Micro Machines could also, sort of, slot into advergaming.
I liked "Hariboy's quest" as a kid and it came with a french bag of Goldbears, so... Score!
I liked "Hariboy's quest" as a kid and it came with a french bag of Goldbears, so... Score!
I had the McKids game on NES. It's a solid 7/10.
Pam Doove!
I want to say something but I don't know of any words.
You sound so hangry. edit to add: I like that- Peperami and a pot noodle was a complete 24hr garage meal.
Funny stuff as always cheers
This is a tasty snack. Yummy
i'm so sorry i made you aware that this game existed,
You should rename the channel to "The resigned videogame nerd"
I've just swapped the poop jokes out for pig cock jokes
Ive seen worse ......come on ....we all know we have
Ade had a easy payday with this no effort needed at all ...💩
Was this free after collecting so many packs or was this actually sold in shops??
Actually sold. For money.
@@RoseTintedSpectrum jesus! Too late to charge them with crimes against humanity?
Ade did you need the money?
🤣👍👏
How not to make a game
yikes!
Omg the character design 🤮
W.......T..........F?
I'm only 20 minutes in and this is already one of my favourite reviews of all time 🫠
