It’s all my fault ;) This is an old gospel song written by blind Willie Johnson in 1927. Zeppelin made it their own though. It’s a song of redemption. One of my faves! Love that start and stop flow. Plus the drums sound like dive bombers in the studio.
This song offers so much that people forget to mention Robert Plant’s wicked harmonica solo! I have never heard a harmonica sound off like that to this day.
John Paul Jones, the bass player, was using an 8-String Alembic Bass on this track. If you don't know, that means it's a 4 string bass that has another string an octave higher per string, so it fills a ton of space. He is covering a lot of space normally taken up by the guitar. He's dope. Check out The Lemon Song by Led Zeppelin if you haven't. JPJ gives a blues lesson on that song.
If I remember my history of rock and roll class he was the best at the “back beat “. Of drumming. As I understand is he hit the drum at the last possible second and stay “in time” but I can’t play anything
The song is about redemption, he's singing about everything he's messed up, and admitting that it's .... NOBODY'S FAULT BUT HIS. YOU MUST LISTED TO 10 years gone....!!!
A few AMAZING Zep songs you haven't reacted to yet are No Quarter, Fool In The Rain, The Lemon Song & Dyer Maker. I didn't notice Kashmir in your past vids as well, but possibly since that song has been sampled so much you may have already heard it? I promise each one is fantastic & I know every other LZ fan will back me up on these choices. (There are more too, just saying,)
Lyrics Oh, nobody's fault but mine Nobody's fault but mine Trying to save my soul tonight Oh, it's nobody's fault but mine The devil he told me to roll The devil he told me to roll How to roll the log tonight Nobody's fault but mine Brother he showed me the gong? I interpret as a battle with drugs. In end he says has a monkey on his back. Old term foe opiates or addiction.
Teez, you have no idea how it pleases me so that you are checking out stuff I grew up listening to. Great that younger generations are discovering this.
Me a 4th grader in 1976, brother's friend brought this over. I was instantly drawn to the guitar intro, like W T HECK? All kind of music in 1976. This was definitely for those with a certain taste. Not mega popular as this never got as much radio until in the 80's. I still say, when Van Halen hit, it re wrote the book.
Holy sh*t is right! It's my second favorite Zeppelin song. But, if you want to hear a Zeppelin song that'll really blow your doors off, do yourself a favor and hear When The Levee Breaks. It's like holy sh*t times x 2. Trust me! If you've already heard it, my bad.
I'd love for someone to do reactions to the old mississippi blues songs that either inspired or were covered by rock musicians. When The Levee Breaks by Memphis Minnie, Nobody's Fault But Mine by Blind Willie Johnson, Gravel Road Blues or The Girl I Love Got Long Wavy Hair (same lyrics) by Mississippi Fred McDowell and Sleepy John Estes respectively. Son House, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell, Scrapper Blackwell, and many others, too many to list. There's a lot of beauty and artistry worth exploring there. I know this is a little tangential but if you were interested, something like that would definitely be worth looking into.
Sunshine- I am old enough to be your Mom and if we were in the car and this came on the radio - you’d probably turn, look at me and say “my ears hurt you’re blasting this...”
OHHHH YEAH - this is one of my favorites!!! Is it a coincidence that this song and Levee and the Wizard (Ozzy/Sabbath) are 3 of my all-time favorite songs and they all have singers that play harmonica! "No Quarter" next for a vibe? Very good breakdown on this reaction Teez!
The ultimate led experience.check out dased and confused live at Madison Square garden.28 minutes of mind bending guitar.he uses a violin bow on his guitar.tge ultimate.
This is loosely based on a Blind Willie Johnson song. Except for the chorus, the lyrics are different, and the music has nothing to do with the original. Go listen for yourself. Nevertheless, lots of people getting butthurt over a controversy that doesn't exist. Johnson was the first to record the song, Nobody's Fault But Mine, but like most blues songs, it had been around for a while with other musicians playing it as is, modifying it, or creating derivatives. Zep's song is as original as they come. If Zep had titled the song differently and not used the titular phrase, no one would be the wiser.
It's not so much about Zeppelin doing other artists songs as it was about them not giving credit to the artist for said song.... I've been a fan my whole life & yes Zeppelin has taken many a song & made it their own no question but it's not cool when you don't give credit when it's due.... I think it's a valid point...

I think it's about addiction. Jimmy Page was struggling w/ a heroin addiction at the time. Robert Plant hqd a brokwn leg when this was recorded. So he sang and played harmonica from a wheelchair.😊
One of my top 3 all time favorite Zep songs. Don’t worry about understanding the lyrics. I’ve been listening to this song since 1976 and I still don’t know WTF he’s saying!
You should do a combo reaction... led zeppelin 'when the levee breaks' then follow it up with beastie boys 'rhymin and stealin' I dont think you've done either of those yet.

Yes, I’ve asked before about it too. I never saw anyone do it yet. It is a totally different vibe, many don’t make the connection that it’s them. I’ve always liked it 💓
@@missgmoma I saw someone do it and that's when I realized that "D'yer Mak'er" rhymes with "Jamaica" if said with a strong British accent. And it has to do with some punny joke where Jamaica is confused with "Did you make her".
@@dodgingcars 🤔now that’s interesting. Actually I can kinda see that happening. It really does rhyme pretty well when said that way too. Cool 🙌🏻 I hope he gets to do it sometime. ☮️
All about Jimmy Page's heroin use during this album recording. "Gong" is an old term for opium...like in Cab Callaway's "Minnie the Moocher"....."he took her down to chinatown and showed her how to kick the gong around". "Got a monkey on my back" is a term for a drug addiction....something you can't really control. Not sure about "roll" but probably something with how you roll a ball of opium to put it in the pipe. I guess it's Plant telling Page that his heroin usage was getting out of control, and also Bonham's drinking
Greatest Rock band of all time!!!
Led Zeppelin never too late to listen to the best ever
Teez no one told you that Robert ROCKS the harmonica.
He sure plays a mean harmonica! 😊
Thanks so much for pointing that out! Ev1 always wonders that lol
It’s all my fault ;)

For Your Life YES! 💯
How do you forget Achilles Last Stand? Underrated and underappreciated album compared to others, but one of my favorite Zep albums.
Hots on For Nowhere is their most underrated song I think. One of their best straight-up rock and rollers
@@JayPhonomancer No one ever gives this song any props and it's a great song.

It's an old blues gospel song. Zeppelin did a lot of old blues songs.

My favourite Led Zeppelin song ! I do believe he is talking about kicking a drug habit . Got a monkey on my back. Nobody's fault but mine .
This song slaps!!!!!! Often overlooked because it’s on Presence
If your hearing bass, thats John Paul Jones.
That tune totally jams.
