One of my favorite LZ songs of all time. Remember the first time I heard it, also was about 17. The production of this song - the starts and stops - even to a teenager, blew me away. 45 years later, I'm still listening to it. The guitar solo that Page lays down at the end is still one of my favorites of all time. Bonzo's drumming, JPJ's bass, Robert's singing and harmonica. All just f'ing brilliant.
I was 17 when this album came out. I drove some of my friends to the record store in my dads 1969 Ford Pickup Crewcab to buy it. We drove straight to my buddy’s house and listened to the entire album smoking weed. This song has always been my favorite from the Presence album. That old truck, it’s sitting in my driveway right now!
Absolutely love this one, so tight! That crop circle on the cover, “appeared” in an English field one summer - magical and mysterious ❤, like the band.
I have loved Zeppelin since I was a teen, but no one seems to be giving credit where credit is due. This is one of my favorites by them but it was originally a Blind Willie Johnson song. Like most English rock bands (Zeppelin, Stones, Cream, etc) of the 60's 70's the their first intro into music love was blues and soul. So many bands, along with their original music, remade old blues music. I would love to hear a reaction to the original vs the remake. There might not be rock as we knew it without soul and blues.
I love seeing people from a different time and place loving Led Zeppelin. I remember when I had my dad sit down and watch Nirvana Unplugged and he, a dude from the sixties, a Methodist minister, wept. Music is great.
Like I said led zeppelin are and will forever be the gods of rock n roll no band out there like them every song they have is a masterpiece best band ever
I am thrilled to see you react this way, youngblood. I thought this music, the music I grew up with, was dying. They are my fave, and often hailed as the greatest rock band ever.
Stunned reaction. That never leaves with Zep. So cool how JPJ jumps between Bonzo & Page to serve them adding great weight. But its the Bonzo show.....what is he gonna do next. On that tour for the album on some of the decent live bootlegs the extra drive and drum fills Bonzo adds to the song are off the charts!
Once Led Zep get into that "groove" where the guitar, drums, bass and harmonica are all in unison the result is infectious, hypnotic even. One of their heaviest songs that takes an old blues song and they take it to another entirely different level. That "rabbit hole" just gets deeper hey Pop?
I went through my Zeppelin phase when I was in my 20s (about 25-30 years ago). But even today they are the gift that keeps on giving. Endless supply of classics. So glad they are still getting recognition from true music lovers like yourself and other young people who appreciate the classics.
That cover is from their first box set of all their songs. I likes it because it was 4 CDs and the songs were mixed and not in album order. So you could pop in a CD and gear a little from each era
Baby come on home is a must. I stray away from suggestions usually because everyone has that favorite. But this is a zep tune that is such a overlooked gem. Trust me on this.
I’m from Boston they used to play this on w b c n my favorite d j Charles laqudera would play it in the morning saying it was the equivalent of 12 cups of coffee
This song is a reworking of the version done by Blind Willie Johnson and is from their album called "Presence". It was a difficult time for the band as Robert was in a wheelchair while trying to heal a broken leg he got in a bad car accident. In a different reaction, I gave you a list of live performances but forgot a big one - the O2 tribute concert to benefit the Ahmet Ertegun charity after his passing. Ahmet was the co-founder and president of Atlantic records, the label that took a chance by signing a new band called Led Zeppelin in late 1968. At the time of the concert in 2007, Robert was in his late 50s, Jimmy and John Paul Jones were in their early 60s, and Jason Bonham, John's son, was in his 40s.
I can’t even describe the joy it’s brought me watching you discover the greatest band to me. I’ll never forget the first time I’d really listened to them and just fell in love with each piece of their art. Happy to see you happy 😊
We are all our own fools! Love this tune! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 They Well never be dethroned! The GOATS! Bonzo was laying wood to the skins! Roberts harmonic work was filthy!
That is the cover of the British Box Set.....and the song is their version of a 1933 Blind willie Johnson song.......Page/Plant had a version as well...
Yeah- that was another one where all four lads fit it together perfectly with equal contributions- and Robert on harmonica was a sublime wee extra. But you're bang on, Pope- legends. Peace.
I was asked by a friend a few months ago if i knew if it was Robert Plant who stole Sonnyboy Williamson Harmonica, he even asked me if anyone on this site would know. Well i wasnt about to accuse anyone of theft without any evidence so i dug around a bit a found this today. "Plant played in the original Band of Joy with Bonham in 1967 and 1968. The group never caught on, and Bonham and Plant both found new gigs. Back then, Plant's influences were primarily Mississippi Delta blues. He grew up going to blues festivals, introducing himself at 14 to legendary harmonica player Sonny Boy Williamson at a urinal. Williamson responded with a curt "f*** off." Plant's answer? He snuck backstage and stole Williamson's harmonica." Well i know Sonny could be a cantankerous old sod and Robert wasnt gonna be talked to like that so i take my hat off to him, any thoughts people?
I've gotta treat for you my friend. This is of course a wicked version but you should check this version out ,if you can find it. The album is called "No Quarter" Page and Plant Unledded. It's from 1994 and they take this Zeppelin classic, slow it down and turn it into an almost different song. But it's fantastic.!
@@juliemanarin4127 The one on/from 'The Song Remains the Same"? I love the part in the middle with the Gong hit: Bonham does the drum-fill, then smashes the Gong with his closed FIST!!!
The album cover says all that needs to be said. Mysterious crop circles. Everyone’s mystified as to how? Who? Then, like the shadow of some random passing cloud, there’s the shadow of a larger than life air ship. Whether you look up to see what’s causing it, or not, WE know who’s been making all those fantastic “crop circles”. Influencing people around the world, whether they know it .. or not. 😎👍
One if my firsts DVDs was this Remasters album. Already into Zeppelin previously. Bought it with a portable DVD player right before deploying to desert shield. Played this all the time, including rolling north into Iraq. Cut the headphones from the wires and wired this into our intercom so we could listen with our tanker helmets while we worked.
Yeah I love all the syncopation that John Bonham does there's a particular microphone that you have to use to get that sound it's a funny looking thing it looks like something that was made in the 40s but it gives it that warm tone and you put the mic right up next to the harmonica you were checking out that cover that was the complete collection of all this Led Zeppelin remastered it was a box set and it says if there was a actual Zeppelin blimp above casting a shadow on the field below but this thing that's pretty cool is there's a picture of a crop circle which a lot of people pretty much confirmed was done by extraterrestrials God I can't say it anyhow yeah when they went out there in the fields were these crop circles were made they noticed that the grain was bent down but it wasn't broken there's even a film where they see a UFO above the field and then it just instantly transforms the field into an image that was intended by the aliens now after many years of research they find it there are so many mathematical equations involved in all these designs and that's how this alien sir attempting to communicate with us using the universal language of mathematics and geometry anyhow I love the way rubber plants voice goes right with the guitar Jimmy Page is playing a slide and he's singing right along with the actual Melody on the guitar is identical to the vocals and they're using a lot of phase shifting on the guitars I love that affect all right my man another really cool reaction good work
At some point you should check out Rober Plant's solo work, it's not Zeppelin, but with his vocals, has some Zeppelin flavor. I cherry pick a grip of them Robert Plant - Slow Dancer Robert Plant - "Fat Lip" Robert Plant Burning Down One Side- Robert Plant - Moonlight in Samosa Robert Plant - Pledge Pin robert plant Worse Than Detroit robert plant Mystery Title Robert Plant - In the Mood robert plant Big Log Robert Plant - Little by Little ROBERT PLANT - Heaven Knows Robert Plant - Ship of Fools Robert Plant - 'Tie Dye On The Highway' - Live at Knebworth The Honeydrippers - Rockin' At Midnight robert plant Sixes And Sevens
This is an old Blind Willie Johnson standard. It's about Robert Plant regretting signing a Pact with the Devil back in 1968, at the behest of Jimmy Page. John Bonham signed it too. Robert and John eventually paid dearly for it. They lived on top of the Rock and Roll world for a good solid 7 yrs, until Robert's car accident in Aug of 1975. Robert recorded this song in wheelchair, bc of the car accident. This song is from the Presence album.

Robert's harmonica playing is lights out on this song ! ❤❤❤
“Masterpiece after masterpiece”
Very well said.
This is my favorite Zep song. It is quintessential Zep. It has all the elements. 3 words: John Henry Bonham. ✌

Just like ozzy osbourne is the prince of darkness another great talented musician hit after hit
You really need to listen to John Bonham's footwork on that bass drum during this song unbelievably quick that's why he's my boy
I love that start and stop beat. Nobody’s fault but Zeppelin’s for that.
