2024 Chevrolet Traverse First Drive

- The location is just outside of Atlanta and it was time for me to meet the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse. I was set to drive the RS and Z71 trims. I started off by taking the Z71 on the road to see how the off-road treatment affected everyday driving. I then took it on an off-road path that I’d like to call more of an adventure roading. The next day I took the Z71 out on the road to compare how it behaved on the road.
For the RS, I had to of course pick the new Stardust color which was predominately a dark purple color that sparkled with shades of brown and even light pink hues. The big 22-inch wheels were actually a perfect fit for the RS trim. The black colored wheels matched the black colored grille, window framing, and lower trim. Where I feel it lacked the continuity was the exhaust tips which unfortunately were chrome and not black chrome. The Z71 offers a reworked front bumper that allows for better approach angle. It also has some under body protection and functional red tow hooks. The 18-inch Z71 wheels also come with all-terrain tires to allow for better grip in adventure roading.
You get in and the red trim on the front doors and dash stand out on both the Z71 and RS. The RS gets additional things like the three-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel, headrest detailing, and black interior with red stitching accents. Standard on the RS, the second row has the one-touch power-folding seats for easy third row access. Super Cruise is standard on the RS but is also optional in the Z71.
Under the hood, the Traverse loses 2 cylinders but gains a turbo. It is now powered by a 2.5L inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which is connected to an 8-speed auto. There is an option for front-wheel drive and 2 different all-wheel drive configurations. The Z71 gets its unique twin-clutch AWD to help with off-roading terrain.
Overall I was impressed with the stronger looking exterior, the tech and comfortable interior, and the drivetrain options that the new 2024 Chevrolet Traverse has to offer.

Beautiful vehicle!!!
It is beautiful. I like the new aggressive design.
This American made Traverse is soooo nice sporty premium and capable I've been watching every single review lol The Suburbs are going to buy this in the masses!!
The dark purple color in person looks good than in the GMC website.
Yup! When I saw it in the parking lot, I asked the rep if we can reserve it for our drive. I just wish the interior trim matched the exterior.
First of all thatnk you for such in depth review/video!
So how do you like it compared to your trailblazer? Currently have a trailblazer but im in love with this new style Traverse!
Thanks for watching and hey Trailblazer buddy. I can tell you that I'm considering this as an upgrade to the TB. Now it doesn't feel as peppy as the TB but once you get the Traverse moving, it'll go. I think it's the perfect size because its not massive like the Tahoe is and doesn't drive like a truck. The Z71 was really nice for adventures which I'd like to start doing with my family. My big 80lb dog fits kinda tight in the backseat of my TB with my 9-year old kid so putting the dog in the third row would be perfect.
Yes I went from Tahoe to a trailblazer and now I feel like the trailblazer is a little too small for us where I felt like the Tahoe was too big 😩 I'm really considering the Z71 so we will see!
@courtneyf.6153 my wife drove the Tahoe I reviewed and when we started thinking of upgrading, she didn’t want the blazer cause it didn’t seem that much bigger and Tahoe was too big. Then they announced the new traverse and she said that’s just right. We live in north Texas and our roads aren’t the best cause of construction quality so we’re considering going z71 for the softer suspension and the adventure aspect of it.
Overall, a good video. A little long also more info about the under rea storage, storage bottom and spare tire would be nice.
Baby Tahoe! pay attention marketing team. lol Love the video. Those drone shots look money. I like the stardust color for sure.
Thanks for watching! I loved the Tahoe but its a little too big for my needs. The Traverse would be a great upgrade from my Trailblazer and the Z71 would work for adventure time. Of course im going stardust or red.
I have some great commercials in mind for this, they can’t mess this up. It’s too easy! Truly looks like the baby Tahoe.
May ask if the traverse has break hold?
Thanks for the review ❤
It does not have brake hold.
I liked all the way you presented. The only thing I'm feeling less in the traverse RS trim for that price point why they are not offering heads up display?
Thanks for watching. Not sure about the reason why it doesn’t have a heads up display. I’d love for them to add it because the GM HUD is really nice.
Does the RS have auto vehicle hold? Sorry if I missed it in the video. Thank you!
None of the trims have brake hold.
Any videos on the ambient lighting?
Unfortunately I didn’t. Since we were driving during the day, I completely forgot but I do know there’s a bunch of colors to choose from.
Thanks for the review. Hard to believe the don't offer leather interior on either the Z71 or the LT models. I'm not sure I like it enough to jump up to the RS model for leather, but I can't see myself buying a car with cloth or faux leather anytime soon. I've yet to see anybody give an in depth review of the Evotex material.
They're expecting the Z71 trim to be used in dirtier terrain so the Evotex is easier to maintain. I'll be honest with you, if it weren't for the Chevy rep telling us that the third rows on all trims, including RS, I wouldn't have been able to tell a difference. It's very hard to tell at the 31:25 mark when I'm showing the third row. They probably aren't talking about the Evotex because its honestly just as good and lower maintenance to it. Chevy does a pretty good job at making it feel like real leather. I've had other brands that I can immediately tell its not real leather lol
@@Revmatchmedia I appreciate the reply. I hope you're right, but I'm conditioned by decades of manufacturers marketing pleather as being just as good as leather, but then watching it fade and/or peel after just a few years. I'll probably need to see how this new version performs for a few years before I can trust the sales pitch.
I heard you can option in the leather, not to sure though
@@larrysimth9077 the leather is on the RS. Other trims you can option Evotex and none of them get a leather third seat even if it’s an RS.
look at the Acadia then GM looks like they are trying to differentiate the brands in terms or quality and luxury
thanks for your review. i have a question, can we see the black color traverse and also another trim?
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately these were the only colors and trims that were available to us. I tried finding the black one to film it but could no longer find it since they had already started taking them away when I went to look for it.
@@Revmatchmedia wow, there is black color!! i'm waiting for black color!!what kind of that trim??
@sean-mu2rf I believe I saw it in a RS. All the trims will come with an option for black that they call Mosaic Black Metallic. You can see it on the Chevy website.
Great review!!!!! I want an RS but I'm really struggling between the Stardust and the Red. How do you feel about the contrast of the exterior Stardust with the red trim inside? I think it clashes ... But I haven't seen them in person yet.
Thanks!
@@Lsantiago21thanks for watching. Yeah it was a little tough to see the red with the Stardust matching together. Ideally it should’ve been stardust trim. Surprisingly the Z71 also gets the red trim. The red color on the traverse is a beautiful shade so that wouldn’t be a bad choice.
Best SUV out in many years
It was definitely a nice suv to drive.
I see so much tech and comfort on that new Traverse that I'm going to go on a limb and say that it might be wanting to pick up a fight with the new Range Rover sport. They are about the same size. What do you guys think?
I could definitely see someone cross shopping especially if they don’t mind the bow tie instead of a Range Rover badge. But i hear the Traverae drives better than it looks! So I’m anticipating a test drive personally.
Is it adaptive suspension. Can we get the same suspension in LT. In website I see it’s available.
Its not adaptive suspension. Its dual valves that are fixed. I also see that its marking it as available but when you go build it, its not showing it. That might be a typo because we were told RS and Z71 had the special tuned suspension.
Thank you for the update. I can buy the top end models but they miss 8 seats.
I’m holding out for the 2025. Hopefully they add a hybrid option with different interior color options. High hopes here 😂
A hybrid would be a nice option to help with MPGs but the Chevy team didn't hint at any chance of it. I understand about the red trim if you get a exterior color that doesn't match. A dark tan would be a nice option to have.
@@Revmatchmedia any idea when they will announce the 2025?
@@iGotMySniperSticky No clue. I was actually confused that this was a 2024 model since it was introduced so late. My videographer had to correct my first intro take when I said it was a 2025 lol.
Are all the windows automatic?
At least in the Z71 and RS that I drove, it only has auto for the driver's side.
Traverse Four cylinder: "I miss my two siblings. Where have you gone?"
No fog lights or HUD??? I was fixing on trading in the wife’s CX-90 but no way
I wouldn't trade a CX-90 for it. Quick question, do your seat adjustments squeak from like a plastic to plastic rubbing?
Where's the fog light?
No fog lights for any new Traverse.
None of them have any fog lights I noticed.
That is correct. I noticed that after I was editing the video and looked at the chevy site that no trim has them.
Do you feel this stardust color is more purple or pink?
Purple
No heads up display?
No heads up display
Also it's no point for mass Evs when ICE's still achieve atleast 300 to 400 miles per tank. The last review I seen the new 2024 Nissan Pathfinder had over 400 miles on a full tank. Remember Evs loose mileage on highways too💡
Which reviewers review more base model.
We were only give access to Z71 and RS trims. Maybe finding someone that does reviews through dealerships since they’re now getting them in their inventory
Any reason for the tiny outside mirrors?
They didn’t seem to be an issue with visibility. I would’ve definitely noticed if they were like I have with other vehicles.
Looks like a Grand Cherokee overland
I can see the similarities. Are you considering getting a Traverse?
Who really buys a vehicle at these prices and takes it off road? How does it compare to the competition?
A lot of people actually do. I’ve taken out a press truck that’s $80k just to see others in the 90-100k range. Now this isn’t a rock crawler, this is more for like unpaved roads that can have a small climb or two. The tires will help absorb some of the rougher terrain and the skid plate will help protect the engine.
"You don't need paddle shifters you can use your right foot instead!!" 😐
Sometimes engine braking is nice to have by using the paddle shifters to downshift. When off-roading in the Z71, gear selection is a nice tool to have that can’t be done by just using your right foot.
This looks and feels very much like the Durango. And the Durango is cheaper.
I’m going to highly disagree on that statement. The Traverse looks, handles, and has better finishes than the Durango.
Ehhhh...pass!!! Nty! The V6 would've still been the perfect motor size for its class. All they could've done is make improvement and torque with the V6. I love my 2018 traverse awd Lt bodystyle better. It just looks good and sporty overall and it's got the V6 which is perfect for an suv. Funky is the word to describe this newer model where nothing made any sense. You're giving this newer model too much credit for what it's not even worth. There's just too many redundancy feature and complication than it didn't need to. This model is a reminder of a very super complicated women that just drives you crazy. She got nice rack, but when she shows it bare. They are very disproportion, skin has freckless and blackhead, full of hidden baggage underneath the clothes. I want a car that looks great! Feels great, everything is porportionate and matches with the proper curve. No baggag, no hidden complication. I get the feeling you're not really looking at this vehicle thoroughly. Instead you just turn a blind eyes to all the hidden flaws that cold potentionally make you frustrated and regret buying down the line as you get to really know more of the vehicle.
Long story short: Karen. 😂😂😂
@wannaflyme you said it, not me 🤣
So you can't afford it 😢
@Revmatchmedia I meant the car. Not to the person who wrote it. He referred the car as a super complicated women that drives you crazy. 😆 And I completely agree with the comment he wrote. And he wrote it good. A car needs to be simple and does what you ask of it.
This is wild. 😂 the 2018 Traverse looks like a minivan.
4 bangers engine will not make it. Bad decision.
They will. It uses the same diesel style concept that the Colorado’s engine has. I haven’t heard of any mechanical issues with those vehicles.
Who cares if it’s a 2 are a 4 it’s putting out more horsepower that the 6
Nope! No matter how powerful it is for a 4 banger motor. They will always be under underpower and not only that, they will work twice as hard when push cones to shove. Ideally, a V6 would've been more sufficient and work less to get the same result or better. Heat is the number one killer and things can go south pretty quickly when they failed due to over-exertion of workload that it has to do to keep up.
The design is too old. Front, rear, steering wheel, etc.
Really? That’s the first time I hear someone saying that about the new design.
