Thanks for watching!
Hey guys! Recently, a clip from this video has gone viral on other social media platforms (We're talking MILLIONS of views!), so I thought I'd spruce it up and reupload. The first time I released it, I don't think I titled it right and the thumbnail was pretty bland too. Maybe it can now have a second chance on UA-cam. Thanks for understanding, and look for a brand new episode next week!
Hey man .... just thought I'd let you know, if you remember speaking to me... 2nd of jan, my old man suddenly dropped and passed away whilst walking to the pub.
He had cancer and told us he was having chemo but apparently he wasn't... he died of a blood clot that went to his heart.
So many memories of my collection and shame I had to sell my collection a decade ago...
@@orderofmagnitude-TPATP I’m very sorry for your loss. Thank you for watching. I hope the videos can help you remember good times with him.
Awesome, glad to see these clips grow.

Playing the old CoD games splitscreen with friends. We would be laughing so hard.
I love how comfortable everyone is hanging out at your house! I get the feeling that your dad just loved sharing these games with people
He really did man. He was always about the gift of game!
Yep the type of comfortable everyone’s house I went to back in the day when We always used to invite each other I loved that timeline.
That was me with my nephews
Nothing was better than sitting on carpeted floor in front of a CRT screen and holding wired controllers. It was always more fun at someone else's house for some reason.
@@MyRetroLife Question. Did you ever have issues with your PS2 struggling to read blue CD's?
We take for granted that every one has a camera on their smart phones. Bless your dad for having filmed what at the time must have seemed mundane to others. The dude knew what he was doing. We're about the same age, and you and your dads vids are like a time capsule. Keep it up!
He didn't just casually record this either, he must have taken the time to sync his camcorder with the CRT refresh rate to avoid the usual flickering you see when filming a CRT screen.
Yep, Tyler’s dad knew exactly what he was doing. Such a special thing to literally have your childhood on video. One thing I wish my parents had done.
Back when you and your friends could literally have fun watching someone play a game.
also the only way we can convince ourselves to buy a game because you can't search up gameplay footage like nowadays.
MGS2 was a game changer. Nothing will beat the 6th console gen, greatest time to have been a gamer, it was insane.
PS1-PS2 era was legendary. It's a fact games went downhill mid PS3 era, and got worse over time.
The later consoles took the fun out of it. They were high end media centers and not focused on fun gaming. I think Nintendo made the right decision to avoid directly competing with Sony and Microsoft and went after young and casual adult gamers.
@@user-or6yn8pm3c young and casual adult gamers accurately describes nintendo fanboys. nintendo went to shit after gamecube
@@KT-rq9id Not true, just nostalgia in your head. I have been gaming for over 30 years and there are absolutely INSANE games out these days.
From AAA+ to indie games there is a ton of high quality games. I could easily list 50 games from the last 10 years which are top notch. Even with higher standards that come with longtime gaming, since everything can get boring at some point, those games made me feel like back in the days again. And there are games NOTHING from the past can even remotely be compared to. Unless, well, nostalgia kicks in hard. ;)

Nobody has a phone. Everyone is focused on the same game on the same screen. Even a single player demo disc. It’s surreal watching this and feeling the drastic difference in attention span haha. I miss this kind of hanging out. Love the clip Tyler thanks!
If smartphones had existed then, they’d be on them as well, humans have always been looking for a distraction since the dawn of man. It’s asinine to say “Nobody has a phone.”
Is it right to be born in 2008 mainly having 2010s nostalgia and i found the 2000s MUCH more a appealing ? .
Hope gods glory will make the internet decentralized again , and social medias returning to be primitive and web forums instead of distractfull destruction of human decency ( society ) , and companys to cool down their evil greed , Y2k fruitiger aero style era to comeback evolved to look less dated .
@@Vascularityisgood70it makes sense! You weren’t born that far off from those things. I feel for you kids today being bombarded with information, competition and the pressure to grow up so fast. I miss a lot of the 2000s, but you get old enough to realize that feeling is wrapped up with missing your youth and blissful ignorance in general. It gets better as you get older and have the perspective of all the different eras you lived through and will experience.
Rather than hoping things will go back the way they were, love and appreciate their history and share that with communities like us! Unapologetically have a hobby around it like collecting games - I literally have a 2002 Windows XP machine to browse the old internet on, and love sharing it with people. And very importantly don’t ignore the good things happening right in front of you and build new memories. Even when times are tough it’s possible in small ways.
Take care my friend!
Man seeing this made me have nostalgic feelings for the ps2 because it’s nice seeing a group of random friends playing games and talking random stuff. My first game is ps2 was capcom vs SNK 2 and that game was amazing.
Until we wanted to have women cause our Biological urge but yea
there's nothing beat's 80's and 90's gaming and early 2000's, watching tv cartoon, anime, playing video games with your friends going out to the lake swimming in summer that's life 🤘🏻😆
I'm so glad you have this footage to look back on & to share with others. I was born in 1989 & had so many good times with friends but have no footage to look back on. It was some of the best years of my life but it also lined up with such a weird era when cameras were transitioning from old cameras to really bad digital cameras & so i just never got a chance to get any footage of most of these years. It's weird how things synced up like that but i wouldn't change those days for anything in the world
To be honest I'm 36 now but still have these game days with family and friends once a month where I have Launchbox installed and sorted all my emulators and games in on my laptop hooked up to a 4k 65'' inch tv. We just go through a nostalgia trip, order food and socialize. Only difference is back in the day I had more patients for games, it seems the time is moving faster now.
Your father was 35 years ahead of his time.He didn't deserve to die so young.I can relate to you because my father died in 2003,he was 50 and i was 24.He bought me the SMS in 1990.I wish he was here to play videogames with me.😞😞😞
Rest In Peace to him, glad you have that awesome memory of him..
Been watching your channel for years now and i absolutely love all the nostalgic memories...the 90s and early 2000s were the best years for gaming
I can smell the couch and room. in the 90s every tv room had a fresh brand new carpet and a leather couch. I remember doing this with friends countless nights before a pool day, school day, track meet swim day, dinner day, vacation day, you name it. the 90s were like this for all of us. I really miss it
Had the GameCube and PS2 at that time but I was definitely a GameCube guy! Zelda Wind Waker, Luigi’s Mansion, Mario Sunshine, Melee, etc. Tyler great video as always!
I want wind waker so bad bro
It was certainly a fun & interesting time to experience such huge steps in graphics, from 2D to 3D. Never experienced it, i took good graphics for granted 😅. But watching videos like this makes me interested in older games😊
I envy everyone who owned NGC and was able to play Wind Waker on it! It was really hard for me getting a new game that time as I owned the japanese GC, and I’m not even in Japan 😅
Love your father's sense of humor, he had a punch line for every occasion..☝️
Dude, I was born in the year 2000 but i know because of being a gamer who loves history that the PS2 is by far the single most important piece of hardware since the Walkman for Sony! Truly an iconic piece of technology and when we all thought that the world was going to be peaceful! It was pre 9-11-01 for a little while, and life was good and after that tragic day we all went to games to cope is what my cousins who had a ps2 told me it was like! Thank you to your father for filming what seemed to be mundane gaming footage for the kids who couldn’t be aware of what was going on because we were infants at the time… makes me appreciate my brith year a little bit more knowing that the ps2 came out!
Dude you were an infant when 9/11 happened. I was a freshman in high school. How did you know what the world was like post 9/11 when I didn't

Out of all of these systems there is just still something magical about the Sega Dreamcast. No matter which systems I play I find myself always coming back to the Dreamcast. I remember when it came out it was next level!!
So many great games... PSO was one of the biggest surprises ever.
I remember playing Shemue on Dreamcast for hours on end. It was a blast, exploring the town through the day and night. Finding new things to do. My fave was going to the arcade and playing darts and other games inside. Even found Santa stumbling around on Christmas! I played through multiple times.
Also Shenmue 2! I play it on the Xbox, Xbox is basically the Dreamcast 2. They ported over pretty much all the sequels to these awesome games.
@@CRAZYCANUCKTV Indeed. I got the Xbox for Shenmue 2. The third installment was a bit of a flop for me.
Tekken Tag was and still is one of the best games in the series IMO. For me, as well as many others, Metal Gear Solid 2 was my main reason for wanting a PS2. As usual with most Sony consoles, they were hard to get at launch and people were selling them for triple the price. Had to wait a year later before finally getting one.
I still remember that if you want to load the game faster you have to be looking away. Doing it again with my old PS2 feels me with nostalgia
I just recently got a PS2 for Christmas last year I’m loving it so far right now I’m playing 007 Nightfire.
Love the nostalgia 💯💯 good times in life.
aw MAN!!!! that was amazing to watch! i was absolutly fixated, made me feel like a child again, your dad just sounds so cool too, i miss this so much, this whole era of games, but i do question your friedns way of holdong the controller xD
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just wanna say I’m a LONG time watcher, first time making a comment (on UA-cam anyways).
Absolutely love your channel. I feel it’s heart and I thank you so much for sharing your retro life with the world. Being around the same age, your videos are so touching. Cheers to a strong 2024!
This demo was one of the most mind bending things I had ever seen! Also, Zone of the Enders was AWESOME!
It’s so funny to see a bunch of kids trying to get comfortable while playing video games. Now THAT bring back memories.
Funny how this channel has grown so much in 2/3 years 😂 I must have watched this video 2/3 times previously.
It’s kind of scary how much we’re all being swallowed up by nostalgia, actively the first generation to be able to rewatch memories on demand at any time.
The Dreamcast, GC, PS2, MegaDrive, GBA, PSP, 360 were just simpler times plug in and play. No downloads. No micro transactions.
Wow before wifi even existed... 2001 seems just like yesterday! I was 11 that year.
i wish i was born in the 80’s! times were so much better and people Used to still have physical conversations and not chat through texts and @MyRetroLife i just want you to know you are my favorite youtuber! And have even bought a NES to experience what joy the NES brought to people in the late 80’s and early 90’s! PS: the reason why i started my collection was inspired from watching your videos, i am currently at 16 consoles encluding handhelds and i poan to keep loving my passion for video games.
1983 was the year I was born. And let me tell you, I grew up with an NES and experienced gaming from then to current time. It was a time to be alive way back when. I experienced streets of rage 2 with a buddy, mario 64 blew my mind, resident evil terrified all of us in school at the time, halo Lan parties, ff7 was unreal. I could go on and on.
I remember having TWO PS2 consoles! Big & small. It was amazing ^^
Cant stop laughing at your dad reading the game cover of MGS2. Was he about to say “son of a b****?😂😂😂. Love your vids man.
MGS2 and Jak and Daxter back to back 5:06. What a nostalgia blast that was, my two favourite series on ps2.
makes me miss my childhood, as the hood kid with all the games it was cool having people around who just wanted to sit back and enjoy games not just always competitive.
gone are the days my friends bring memory cards over its all discord.
I was 12 years late to the party when I first played on the PlayStation 2
First game I played was a Skateboarding game. (Don’t think it was based off of Tony Hawk)
Spent 8 months of 2013 playing on the PS2 with my Dad until he split from his Girlfriend at the time.
Ironically, a year after I became a PlayStation kid, Sony brings out the PS4
I wasn’t even expecting the PS4 to come out that year. (Especially since GTA V and GTA Online had just been released on PS3 and Xbox 360)
Your dad seems like a time traveler recording this.. he’s so clutch for recording this gem.
The Sony PlayStation 2 is by far my most favorite console EVER! I have a lot of fond memories about it and still have my original that works to this day! I never owned an original PlayStation. At the time I thought games playing on a CD would be a disaster as I had music CDs that would occasionally skip, and Nintendo didn't like the idea of CDs either.
The thing that amazed me was for $299, you got a system that played the latest and greatest PS2 games, backwards compatible with PS1 games (and so my collection for PS1 started), played DVDs when DVD players alone were being sold for $150, and a music CD player! It was the ultimate entertainment console and the games were fantastic! I still have over 200+ PS2 games in their original cases with manuals!
I didn't even know the PS2 was out in 2001 until I googled it just now based on your video. You were ahead of the curve. And you also had a Dreamcast? Wow! Plus an N64 at the same time? No offense, I'm happy for you, but you were very privileged if your parents let you have all this, especially at once. I wasn't even allowed to spend my "own money" on this stuff at the time. I'm happy for you. Fun video.
Love your videos. They mirror images of my memories. A bunch of friends enjoying their time together.
That was cool to see, Thanks for sharing!
Since my childhood i played on rental PS2 shop i miss can playing and exploring GTA san andreas,so i saving money and i can buy PS2 slim in 2010.... so Good moment
I like how casual it was for you to turn the volume up at the tv. Now adays I’d be lost without a remote.
Gamers these days will never get to experience the magic of a weekend hangout with buddies, kicking it up with the PlayStation 2 on a bright morning or silent evening. Back when iPhones didn’t exist and social media was unheard of-a time when the world seemed much simpler.
I unfortunately was just an infant during this era, but I do have a big brother who made so many memories with our father and cousins on PS2. The Bouncer, my favorite game on the console (and favorite game in general) was one of many cherished experiences in my family. I’ve just recently begun making multiplayer memories of my own with The Bouncer, with three of my best friends and laughs aplenty.
This is a treat to watch. Bless your father for preserving your gaming history!
As someone who is very young compared to the average audience of these videos (I'm barely turning 18 myself.
I always adore videos like this especially as it shows how far we've come in gaming and what people feel about it.
But also it helps me appreciate the history of an art form I love
I remember feeling like that in the ps2 era about the NES/Famicom :) its good to learn the history of the stuff you love
The non stop days my friends and I spent playing tekken tag was legendary. Still one of the best tekkens period!
was telling my girl about this channel this morning! cool to see a new video today!
I really appreciate that you uploaded this in 60fps. Many people forget that live analog television, and video recorded to tape, was 60 fields per second; an effect that looked sublime on a CRT.
2001. Wow. I was 82 then.
Your dad is the true hero here.. to have the idea to film this for his son and the way he filmed it. This brought back memories for all of us... I know this video is of you and your family and friends, but in a way since you shared it its a reminder and a piece of all our lives... I remember doing this exact same thing with my friends.. such a cool time and good memories ❤😊
I was born in the mid-90s and owned a PS2 in 2005 when I begged my mother to buy it for me to replace the old one. Watching this video again reminds me of the days when I invited friends over to play and talked about that game, I remember those old days when game consoles just needed to put a disc in, put a game cartridge in and play, no need to install, no need for an internet connection to update.
Another day in the life PS2 Time 2000s blessed to see all from 1980-Now
I don't usually comment, but I relate to you more than you can imagine, probably. I grew up in the late '90s and early '00s with a passion for gaming. My father passed away from cancer, as well. He wasn't a huge fan of gaming aside from Tecmo Bowl, but he still would express interest in it for me. One of my best memories of him was when he went against my mom's disdain toward Conker's Bad Fur Day and bought me a copy in secret, knowing how much I had wanted it despite the mature content. He did, however, have a huge problem with GTA 3, similarly to yours. Keep up the great videos!
Playing ps2 with the homies was so legit. Multi tap was gooooooooood. Played the hell out of Chamnpions of Norrath with the gang!
Man, I remember those days as a kid with friends over, just chillin. You can even tell its the early 2000's just by the film quality, light color from the camera, TV and general house settings haha. Love it

Bro at 1:27 knows what's up when playing Tekken on pad!! Overhand "claw" is the best! Tekken Tag still looks great and it was a LAUNCH title! 4-player is so fun. That game was the reason I bought the PS2 and the MGS2 demo was the reason I bought ZotE!

Man, that is so nostalgic for me. When I was at my cousin's house, roughly two hours from where I live, we would alternate like crazy between gaming on the console and then going out and play outside. Most cherished memories of my life!
Aaaaah man TTT used to play that game a lot. Awesome game, Your dad was smart to record all this.
This reminds me so much of 2004 when I got ratchet and clank up your arsenal for Christmas. Woke up to this game and we played all day, the moon was lit bright and the snow was falling. We'd wake up and go sledding until we got tired and when we came home we continued gaming

I remember getting Zone of The Enders mainly as I was starting to get into Gundam but when I saw the MGSw demo...that went in first 😅. Wow that intro blew me away signifying...this is the new standard of story telling and gaming.
Just a funny anecdote about Zone of the Enders: I remember seeing a news clip with Yao Ming playing the game while the newscasters were reporting about him entering the NBA draft. I was thinking to myself, "Awesome! Yao is a gamer!"
Yep, i remember driving to toys r us to get zone of the enders JUST for the MGS2 demo lol. We all gathered around to watch ice melt in the bar when you shot the glass. MGS2 felt truly next gen at the time.
I still remember seeing tekken tag back in early 2000 on a Japanese PS2 in my local gaming store, 10 year old me was blown away and its one of my fondest gaming memories.
Unrelated but this guy had such a glow up, it’s wild.
Wish i had footage of my younger years, it's just non-existant because my parents weren't into video camera's at all. What a childhood u had man, so lucky! A ps2 was super expensive when it came out (it was around 1100 i think) and you had one of the best TV's for it too. Really cool seeing stuff from back in the day, subscribed too!
Such a cool time to be alive. I got the PS2 a little later when Soul Calibur 2 came out, and I'd skipped the Dreamcast (not on purpose, I just never got one) so when I started playing SC2 for the first time I was in awe at how great it was.
back in the day, it was Tekken4, Soul Caliber 2, SF3 TS and got to have fight sticks... good times
Your father would be very proud of you becoming the man that you are today..thanks for sharing bro
PS2 is the system that keeps on giving, I still discover games for it today.
0:53 I felt the same way, the PS2 was destined to succeed no matter how good or bad it was thanks to the success of the original PlayStation.
Ah mgs2 what a game! Still remember finally playing it for the first time. Me and my older brothers got mgs1 in 1999 I believe and honestly we spent hours and i mean hours on that game. Literally blew us away. Really wish we had some video recordings of us playing it like this
PS2 was my first console I bought very close to launch. Usually I would get the older consoles during the transition.
But so many amazing experiences on that console, I was 21 when it came out, was in my first apartment away from home, living with roommates.
It was very clever of Konami to include a demo of MGS2 with ZotE. That’s the only reason why I bought it.
Your dad is a legend and you a prodigy.
