Hey all. This is a completely new pack from our previous Gilbert/Lee Jackson pack. The 50W is re-profiled, and the 100W and Racer X profiles added. The old pack has a significantly different sound due to the profiling techniques used at the time and makes a nice complement to the new pack.
I posted a comment about the recording of Getting Heavier and a link to a photo I took of the Mel Bay at Paul's house. Did you moderate it or UA-cam because I posted a link.
I don't even own a Kemper, but I've been binge watching your channel because your work and research are so thorough and interesting. You absolutely nail so many sounds! If I can ever afford a Kemper, I know that your website will be the first place I go! Cheers
@@TopJimiStudios Oh, I remember! Through that amp (and later through the Kemper) I had the privilege of hearing some of the best live guitar sounds ever. I had to play my best so my bass didn't crap up your awesome tone and kick ass solos!
The UA-cam Gods sent me your Skyes video, since I recently bought a Kemper. The minute you started playing...I spied the MEL BAY ROCKET and almost fall out of my chair. I've been a friend of Racer X since 2000. I have an AC/DC and Priest band (Priest /DC with Scott and Jeff and yes..I'm going to try out your Malcolm profiles with my M.Y. Gretsch!). I manage their website (not much going on) and FB. In 2001, I went to Paul's house in Henderson, NV, aka Bat Girl Studio to watch them record, take photos, videos of them recording it. That's when I saw the Mel Bay (PHOTO 89), it's unique...so I asked questions so I was aware of the mods. I don't remember exactly how he used it...Paul is obviously way more advanced than 99% of the population. So how they recorded the record, Paul and John were in the main bedroom (actually has Bat Girl), with the mixing board and such. Racer X recorded Getting Heavier "Live", with all of them playing at the same time, not in pieces and parts. It was the first time they recorded as a band. So Paul had the Mel Bay on top of his Laney. Paul was sponsored by Laney at the time and he plugged into the Laney, not the Mel Bay. But he had the Mel Bay on, and you can see that in Photo 104 on the RacerXband website in the Getting Heavier photos. So if or how he connected the two heads, would have been from the back. Paul had those heads CRANKED!! Very loud, so he ran the speaker cable out the door, across one bedroom (more later on that) and down a small hall to another bathroom. There he had 2 Laney cabs mic'd up. John played his bass in the room with Paul. That other bedroom, was Paul's guitar room and drum recording room. All his guitars (where he got them for 100 guitar solo on Burning Organ), plus Scott's kit. Scott had a TV to watch and talk to the main room, and John and Paul had a TV to see Scott play in the other bedroom. Attached to the Paul/John bedroom, is a bathroom and that's where Jeff sang the vocals live with the door shut to get a "live" room for the vocals. BTW...Paul lent that head to the guitar player in Roxanne and he claimed to Paul it was stolen, but that story is debatable. Roxanne was Jamie Brown on vocals, and he became famous for running the bands Boogie Knights and Metal Skool (which became Steel Panther)
@@TopJimiStudios Welcome! I played 3 gigs in my AC/DC band with your profile vs Michael Britt's...and with my MY Signature Gretsch, yours is SO BITING! I love it. I don't care for the profile (got too many already), but man, that opening Racer X riff just made my day. Coool. Need to listen to those records again.
Hey Jim , awesome video just some more information on the amp and usage. I had this amp and used it on my The Color Of Light album which was on Favored Nations Entertainment. I borrowed it. ! 🤟🏻🎸🎶
You sound excellent to me sir. What do I know I'm just a 69 year old bass player that's been playing since 1966. Oh well stay safe and well and keep Rocking. Signed John Gregory/ Zepbass from Munster Indiana.

Jimi. Making presets for Quad Cortex? There is a feature on the cloud for uploading presets to share with one person .. after a confirmed purchase you could send the purchased presets pack to their quad cortex. Just a thought, I would love your version VH on the QC.
They were great tones on those albums but I really like the thick but clear tones on the first Mr Big album also- do you know the rigs used for that? Not easy to find out..
The Greenback Medium and High profiles of the TJ pack have been my go-to drive sounds for some years now! Great tones! Are the Tones of the LJ50 pack included in this pack as well? Did you do additional EQ work to match the tones of the records or is it more focused on the pure amp sounds? I guess, my question is: Do i want to upgrade from the LJ50-pack ;-)
You son of a gun. I almost had that amp when it popped up for sale on ebay in 2008-2010. It was listed for $1,500 and I went up to $1,800 and won, but the seller wanted to reserve for $3,500. Ah well, great tones!
Hey there all the packs I bought from you don’t seem as bright and sound kind of muffled to me. I have the Kemper Kabinet. Was wondering what speaker you used with your Kemper? Also I bought my Kemper power amp second hand so you think it’d be a settings issue? Not sure, love your videos I just feel like maybe it’s my Kemper cab? Would love your input. Also I don’t use merged profiles just the studio, I’m supposed to use studio with the Kemper branded cab right?
Hi. Not sure if you received my email. There are a bunch of things it could be. I recommend doing a factory reset on your Kemper to eliminate that variable. I’m not very familiar with the Kemper Kab, but I believe it does speaker emulation. Be sure that is turned off. There are other suggestions in one of my blogs on www.topjimi.com.
I bought this pack last year with the "old" profiles, is there a way to buy the new updated profiles separately, so that I don't have to buy the pack again? (I have the "TopJimi-Gilbert_Lee_Jackson_Pack_20201114.zip") I'm thinking about these new profiles: racer x ' 87, racer x'86 and the rkt max v30 profile
Hi, the pack is completely redone, including the 50W. If you bought in the last month or so I can get you the new one. Otherwise the old pack is a nice complement to the new one with a pretty different sound.
Haha! I think your proclamation at 0:56 that you suck because you can't play the lead may be slightly exaggerated. I mean, most of the guys that can...can't play the right chords underneath it! 😂 You're fine! 🤘🏻
Almost any of the hot rodded plexi profiles will get you there in terms of pure amp tone. However, his best tones require a stereo or wet dry wet with micro pitch setup.
So hey Jimi, So, I had bought a few profile packs from you a couple of years back for my Kemper, took a hiatus for awhile, but recently saw your Boston video, wanted to buy this pack and a couple of others.. tried to log in with my old account, and couldn't .. thought maybe I forgot my password, so tried the reset.. and was given the message, no account with that email address.. so went to "Contact Us" and get nothing but a blank page. I know I am using the right email account, because I have tons of old emails from you there.. help me out?
Hi. We had to move to a new web site provider a couple years ago. Unfortunately we couldn’t bring the list of user accounts with us, so you’ll have to create a new account.
My understanding is Fractal doesn’t support true profiling. Quad Cortex doesn’t have a good way for third parties to sell captures through their mandated cloud environment.
Have you heard the story from Beau Hill on Warren's tone? The basics.....Warren wasn't happy only 1 Marshall head was used on Out Of The Cellar. So after, when he had some money, he apparently went on a buying spree...searching for the perfect Marshall head...Beau said at one point he had like 12-13 heads.
